Health care bill postponed

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Overwhelmed by problems trying to write a bill overhauling the nation's health care system, the Senate Finance Committee will postpone votes on the legislation until after the July 4th recess, two Democratic Senate sources confirmed to CNN.

The decision, which one source described as not 100 percent final, is a setback for Democrats who wanted the bill out of committee before the recess so the full Senate could have the entire month of July to debate health care reform.

Key stumbling blocks for the Democrats who control the committee include the high overall cost of the bill and the lack of any solid Republican support for the measure in its current form, one of the sources said.

The bill is different from the one the Senate HELP Committee took up Wednesday. But those two bills are expected to be merged in hopes of getting a final bill to President Obama by Oct. 15.

Why do they need Republican support? They control both the house and the senate. Are they saying that there are actualy Democrats that think (Oh no. Gasp! Horrors!!) before they do something that will impact millions of people and their pocketbooks? That just can't be. They are all in Obama's pocket, according to Nancy.

This isn't a sprint race, people! It is a very big problem to tackle and rushing it through is counter-productive. Let's take a few more weeks/months to think it over instead of wasting resources on an incomplete, faulty solution!
Oh, and that time can be used by the republicans to actually come up with a viable alternative instead of just whining and complaining and coming up with one-liners (that they stole from Rush Limbaugh) they try to pass off as 'alternatives.'

Go ahead Liberals, find a way to blame this article on Republicans. You have the majority, you are basically filibuster-proof, and yet your moron commenters here on your biased media outlet will find a way to slander the GOP as "getting in the way" here. This is 100% about Democrats not being able to come together on a decision.

That being said, God bless them for it. Rushing to push our health care system from 97% effective to 35% effective just to try and provide better support for the 3% that are troubled is assinine at best and will be the downfall of our futures.

The health care cost for illegal immigrants is best shared by legalizing the illegals. How? Expand our guest worker program to millions. If their jobs are legalized, we can charge them health care premium or copay for health care. We can then refuse to pay health care for those illegal immigrants that are not registered guest workers.

However, any path to citizenship has to be fair. Only registered guest workers can wait for their visa number or a green card just like legal immigrants do. It takes about ten years to get a family based green card if you were to apply for it today. There is no reason why our government should give a special speedy pass to guest workers.

If you can't get your act together blame the republicans.
I'm sure we won't march to socialism at least that's what they will say, but we will take small baby steps and wake up one morning wondering where the shackles came from.

Any bill that resembles a nationalization of the health care industry will obviously lack "any solid Republican support." And there is no reason for the government to even consider such a sweeping change to begin with. Fix the existing regulations on the books that allows the health care providers to limit independent groups from competitng in local and interstate markets. Fix the legal process that gives victims disproportionate awards for minor medical mistakes. Start small and work your way up.

I was all for health care especially since the President said I could keep my own healthcare and doctors if I wish.

Then all of a sudden I hear that my company would have to pay tax for me paying for my health insurance huh?

This is asking companies to drop offering insurance by either laying people off or demoting them to part time and thus causing the person (who can't afford it) to pay more.

I think the dems are trying to win the 2010 elections not help the 45+ million people who need them to step up to the plate now while the dems are in control. Reid and Pelosi don't know how to run Congress and Obama is young, naive and inexperienced and I wish Hillary had gotten in instead. Oh well!

The delay is called finding Loop Holes for the politicians.
All the none taxpayers( Most of Washington) are explaining how to get away without paying their health care premiums and passing it on to the taxpayers.

people are so naive when it comes to Obama and the democrats. They are NOT for the common guy–they are just using the so-called common guy to gain power. You keep slamming the capitalists–where do you think you are going to get your jobs? from Obama? he only gives jobs to his insiders–he is using all of you for votes only. wake up.
