WASHINGTON (CNN) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet with President Barack Obama at the White House next week, Obama's spokesman announced Thursday.
A White House statement said the June 26 meeting would focus on "a broad agenda of global issues of mutual concern," but provided no details.
"The United States and Germany, a NATO ally, enjoy long-standing and strong bilateral relations, and partner together around the world to promote peace, prosperity and democratic freedoms," it said.

@Bill – how rude of you! Germany is not a third world country dependent on the US and you are a fool to think so. Nobama snubbed Ms. Merkel the last time he was in Germany; he's rude and unappreciative of our European allies!! Don't forget that 49% of the American people do NOT like Nobama nor even voted for him and if the election was held today, he would NOT win by that margin now. Everyone in this country is NOT as stupid as you apparently are and quite frankly, are becoming a bit worried about his massive spending programs! Nobama is more intent on making friends of the Arabs and Muslims than keeping the great friendship between our wonderful European allies!
It's good they're meeting, since they hated talking to Dumbya.
The people that want freedom in Iran know that America will support them. They thought Bush was nothing more than the rightwing extremists they already had in power.

Better than what the GOP and its failed economic policies did: spread the poverty.
Germany hasn't done anything for us in Afghanistan. We need to get tough with them.

I do agree with you that Matt's comment about Obama and socialism is pretty ignorant. But Germany a third world country that depends on the US? I guess you are still living in the past. You should travel over there and actually see with your own eyes. But something tells me that you don't even have a passport.
America and Americans have been criticizing other countries and their leaders/people for decades. Now get used to the fact that other countries and their citizens are criticizing the US.
And btw, Germany is one of the countries were criticizing the own government has become something like an art form. No shortage there.

So your statement is a confirmation of the Robin Hood policies of the Democratic party?
P.S. I've never been employed by someone in poverty.
Ellie MD – you are so right.
Mike, obviously you comprehension ("...As I understand...") must be limited to the mendacious rumours that are the stock in trade of Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, and other right wing fact manufacturers.
And Matt, first figure out what socialism really is. Then put your money where your mouth is and reject all the "socialist" benefits you now enjoy. And third, it's SO obvious how socialist countries like France have it all wrong with their universal free health care, guaranteed retirement, their incredibly inexpensive higher education system, their record of environmental leadership, the fact that their citizens don't have to work two and three jobs to keep a roof over their heads. And their jobs come with thirty days of vacation, unlimited sick days, and full child care. And they have the highest standard of living to boot, higher than us. Oh yeah, I can see how they got it all wrong.
