Republicans raising cash to counter-program ABC Obama special

(CNN) - National Republicans - miffed over ABC News' decision to broadcast a primetime special next featuring President Obama making the case for his healthcare proposal - are looking to raise $100,000 to hit the airwaves with their own health care reform proposal.

"ABC News will be promoting Obamacare at virtually every opportunity, from 'Good Morning America' to 'Nightline,' and reach from ABC News' Web sites all the way to the White House's East Room," Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele writes in an e-mail titled "URGENT" to supporters Thursday.

"Please help us raise the nearly $100,000 we need to buy air time to get the truth about the disastrous consequences of the Obama Democrats' government-run health care plans out to the American people," he adds.

The letter comes a day after the RNC sent a memo to GOP members of Congress urging them to take to the local airwaves next week to discuss the party's approach to health care reform.

The RNC told congressional offices Wednesday that it will pay for and help schedule the interviews with local television reporters in their states and districts.

This is not about Obama, this is about making the country better. The only developed country with a messed up health care system. This is beyond embarrassing. Most people can't afford to get sick.

GOP stop being so childish and help find the solution. Spending money to attack Obama doesn't help. Sound discussions and offer a solution does. This country deserves a mature opposition.

    Both sides of the story!
    Oh please,

There aren't two sides of the story, just two sides:

    1. The TRUTH
    2. Fox News

Folks at CNN and MSNBC continue to hammer away at Fox News for having a conservative – and they are correct.

If they have that kind of eye sight why can't they turn it inward and see just how far to the left they really are in covering the news.

And now we have a Barack Obama day long infomercial on healthcare by ABC. I'm sure there will be plenty of people watching with scorecards to see if they measure up to their promise of fair and balance. I will not be holding my breath.

Danny – "And what are they raising money to promote – their 4 page health care plan? You know, the one with no numbers, no indication of how it will be funded"

Last I checked, Obama's plan has no numbers either (not solid ones). Guess you missed that little detail. Anyone who thinks 1.6 trillion over 10 years is gonna get it done is fooling themselves. And that's only covering a third of the 46 million uniinsured. Yep, that's a real plan, alright.

I am glad President Obama is a least trying to do something about health care...I do not care if it is government controlled or not we need it I am so tired of hearing the republicans say they are worried about the insurance companies failing & the impact it will have....NOT ME they have ripped off americans for years, it is time to get all americans covered and move on regardless of the cost.....

Please, you people that say Fox is truth is laughable, reporters on FOX are given slander reports every morning on who to attack, lie about and politically destroy for the stations owners own self interest. You really should see the interviews with these people when they AREN'T at Fox anymore.

Oh, if ONLY the GOP will spend hundreds of thousands on an alternative to solve our health care problems. Unfortunately, they will not present any plan to solve the problem. They will simply demonize the plan Obama is bringing to the American people. Do nothing is not a plan. They are so afraid of his success. Ultimately, their only hope is Obama's failure.

Republicans already have a 24 hour program that is anti-Obama. It's called Fox News.

    The Republicans can't raise $100,000.

    That's pathetic!

Some people feel that the media has a love affair with Barack Obama. He is the president and the fate of the country hinges on his every move so even when he swats a fly it will be in the news (LOL!). By the way, Palin and her clan have been in the news quite a lot so I think that there is definitely an emotional high with regard to her. That being said, it is customary for an the opposing party to OPPOSE whether the current administration's policies make sense or not. If they agree to everything we all know that it will jeopardize their standing. It would be nice if at this time of economic crisis, there would be some show of bi-partisanship though.

Obama and company are now going after media control. First with MSNBC, now ABC, and soon NBC. They already have power over banks, the automobile industry, and soon energy in the name of climate change (notice its not global warming any more since we have been in a cooling trend now for a decade!!)

If you people, especially the moderates and those in the middle and those who claim to be independent, don't wake up and see the fascist, socialist path we are on, we are in trouble.

We have lost more rights, liberties and freedoms under Obama in the first 5 months than we have in the last 100 years.

The far left MUST be thrown out!

I think it is great that our President is talking directly to the American people so frequently. It is great that so many Americans are paying attention to legislation that is going through Congress. Information empowers democracy. Especially with this fight, because the health industry (insurance and drug companies, hospitals, doctor lobbying groups) have so much power and money to distribute inaccurate information. Health care in the hands of unregulated private business is bankrupting our country as they price gouge our citizens. There is no reason the cost of healthcare should rise 800% in 10 years.

You can always count on all the Dodos on the left to flood CNN's comments sections with their robot speak. If Nobamas for it, so are they, using ones own brain doesn't enter into it. I'm not surprised they're all on CNN, which has always been another arm of the Nobama propaganda machine. The Communists in Russia had a propaganda arm....it was called PRAVDA and no dissenting opinions were allowed to be presented.

The intolerant, belligerent left in this country is now against those with differing opinions being allowed to present their views. Next, they'll be going from neighborhood to neighborhood marking dissenters houses with the star of david and starting up camps.

Anyone here posting that Fix News reports the truth is truly delusional. The fact is there is a need for healthcare reform and the Republicans response is more blathering about tax cuts. They have no plan and no clue so all they can do is be a distraction.

I'm thinking the Rethug response will go something like this :

    1. Cut taxes on the rich and corporations.
    2. Cut spending on the middle class and poor (but not the private sector or military).
    3. Deregulate everything you can.

  20. ABC = An Obama Company

ABC News has lost all journalistic integrity and are literally prostituting themselves to Obama for the sake of ratings. ABC has no shows of their own that cac compete, so they introduce "The Obama Special" Fortunately most americans can see through this sham, and are also coming to know Obama as an Empty Suit President. Finally, America is awakening to the fleece job Barack pulled in the election. The irony of all this is that Obama's socialistic health care plan has no chance of passing. Not now. Now in 8 years. and Obama himself will be a one and done President.

The government will never be able to pay for everyone's healthcare. What will happen is that the government will RATION your healthcare according to what it can afford. Result: When you are in need of certain treatments or life-saving drugs that are too expensive, you will not get it. You will watch your loved ones die. Even now, at least you can go to the emergency room and get the same medicine and treatment that someone with healthcare gets.

How come we didn't hear neo-cons complaining when ABC aired "Path to 9/11" which basically blamed Clinton and absolved Bush??? It's only favortism when a democrat has air time to himself? And what about Fox's inside look at the Bush White House which gave them unlimited access? Do you neo-cons have selective memory on purpose???? Faux news wouldn't know the truth if it fell out of the sky and landed on them. Their "reporters" are lying, opportunistic frauds and no where near fair and balanced. If they were fair and balanced, why is it we have never heard them once, since Obama took office, say one good thing about him? Faux news is dying a slow and wonderfully painful death....so long...fairwell...you won't be missed.

Obamacare is socialized medicine. Canada already has that system and they come in droves to the US to obtain needed (quality) (timely) medical care.
