Republicans raising cash to counter-program ABC Obama special

(CNN) - National Republicans - miffed over ABC News' decision to broadcast a primetime special next featuring President Obama making the case for his healthcare proposal - are looking to raise $100,000 to hit the airwaves with their own health care reform proposal.

"ABC News will be promoting Obamacare at virtually every opportunity, from 'Good Morning America' to 'Nightline,' and reach from ABC News' Web sites all the way to the White House's East Room," Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele writes in an e-mail titled "URGENT" to supporters Thursday.

"Please help us raise the nearly $100,000 we need to buy air time to get the truth about the disastrous consequences of the Obama Democrats' government-run health care plans out to the American people," he adds.

The letter comes a day after the RNC sent a memo to GOP members of Congress urging them to take to the local airwaves next week to discuss the party's approach to health care reform.

The RNC told congressional offices Wednesday that it will pay for and help schedule the interviews with local television reporters in their states and districts.

So the GOP can't come up with any way to make healthcare work, but they bash ANY idea any Democrat has? Yeah, right, great way to make themselves look foolish.

Why are they always countering something but never really doing anything substantive? That joke they called a health care plan didn't have a single number in it! These guys are always calling the President and other Democrats soft, but it seems like they do all the whining.

While I have reservations about the content of the 'response' I think there is a basic rights principle that supercedes here. If this feature is going to include the President making an address promoting his proposal the opposition should be given their time to express thier opinion. We are not Iran – free speech matters. I certainly grant the Republicans probably lack much to say but they should still be heard. Someday the roles might be reversed once again and I would expect the same basic prinicple to be invoked.

Rich people pay 39% of their income to taxes, poor pay zero and lower middle class pay 12%. Why is success and hard work demonized by those who don't work hard or go to school. People who make 100k plus probably went to grad school and work 60 hours a week.

That's America...work hard, get ahead. Why does Obama and his minions hate success and reward the lazy and stupid?

ABC = An Obama Company June 18th, 2009 12:58 pm ET

ABC News has lost all journalistic integrity and are literally prostituting themselves to Obama for the sake of ratings. ABC has no shows of their own that cac compete, so they introduce "The Obama Special" Fortunately most americans can see through this sham, and are also coming to know Obama as an Empty Suit President. Finally, America is awakening to the fleece job Barack pulled in the election. The irony of all this is that Obama's socialistic health care plan has no chance of passing. Not now. Now in 8 years. and Obama himself will be a one and done President.

I hope they can get the money and air time. I want America to see, they have no plan for healthcare or ideas to help Americans. Let them get enough air time to dig a bigger grave. They have a press conference with a 4 page plan that has no price tag and the same rhetoric. Tax cuts for everybody and we can all go out and buy our own health coverage plans..how ridiculous is that if you cant even tell us how much the plan cost. The GOP, best comedy show on earth right now.

I am glad ABC is doing this. The people want to hear what he has to say.

Last I checked, Obama's plan has no numbers either (not solid ones). Guess you missed that little detail. Anyone who thinks 1.6 trillion over 10 years is gonna get it done is fooling themselves. And that's only covering a third of the 46 million uniinsured. Yep, that's a real plan, alright.

Well, last I checked, Bush got us into a war where we're at about 1 trillion and don't even have anything to show for it.

To everyone here who thinks our healthcare system will be more efficient and cost less under the government's control, I ask for any example of what the government does better than the private sector.

It's funny for the lib to call conservatives haters when they have displayed their true selves through the whole David Letterman thing.

Think about it? Yeah, do that rather than regurgiate DNC spoon fed talking points. How would lib respond if Limbaugh made the same comment as Dave about Malia? Think they would be sticking up for Rush and attacking Michelle Obama?

Almost every Democrat in America wishes harm to conservative Americans, yet they want terrorists to roam free and are outraged when the cable is out at Gitmo.

More slime and lies from the Repugs. Aren't we all used to it by now?

FLP, I watch all three – MSNBC, CNN and Fox. What are you going to say about me? I too think that Fox should check their facts a little more as they do not tell the truth on most of their stories.

I'm dumbfounded by the behavior of the Republican party. They complain, distort facts, lie, tear their hair & act like petulant children. What they don't do is support what is possible, come up with viable solutions, represent the 21st century or act like intelligent adults. It's amazing. Now they can't raise 100K & beg for help. The few Repubs that are left become more irrelevant every day. At least Obama is trying to do something positive & because his supporters are hopeful, they're attacked as naiive. There's a TV station for every opinion–this is America. Aren't we used to that by now? Everybody–put your EGOS aside & lighten up!

Let's be fair: Fox has some GREAT satirical cartoon series. The Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, etc. I certainly watch the station for these cartoon series alone.

It's cute how they tie their news coverage to those cartoon characters. I really think the 'creative twist' (aka outright lies that disregard any and all truth) they report news with makes for a good laugh. Then I turn on pretty much ANY OTHER STATION IN THE WORLD, including state run media outlets in Iran, for a TRUER version of the news.

I never watch ABC, anyway - and won't watch their Obama healthcare informercial (you know, like - "It's ONLY $19.95 - plus shipping and handling of $1.6 TRILLION").

However, I will immmediately send an HONEST $20 to the RNC.

We already know the republican proposal, we have it now. It is called Americans keep dying needlessly so the insurnace companies can keep making huge profits, and keep giving money back to the republicans.

Jealousy and racsism thats what a lot of this is maybe i wasnt paying attention from previous presidents but this presidents have recieved the most criticism than any previous i have ever known. Michael Steele is so jealous of the president he cant stand that another black man is in the W.H. Some of those republicans thats against him are racist they are not going to admit it. Im so glad God dont see color when He looks at us, Im glad GOD looks at the heart instead.Maybe thats the reason this president got elected because GOD saw something in him.

Also to my friend Manhandler: It seems like it was just yesterday when Dubya told our nation and the world that you were either "With us or against us!"

And anything that anybody said against Dubya was considered unpatriotic and treasonous by Republicans.

Now that the shoe is on the other foot... all of a sudden it's patriotic to dissent!! What a bunch of hypocrites!! The same thing applies to the Republican fake outrage at fiscal responsibility. Tell it to FIX-ed news... they're the only ones that will listen to your hypocritical drivel!!

  21. Trade Freedom for Security, Lose Both

Forgetting that every single Government program is a poster child for overspending, under delivering and layer upon layer of useless bureaucrats, I am sure health care will be the one exception. Just go to a Social Security office – that's the level of service we'll get with Government so-called healthcare.

Yes! Help prevent the disaster of Americans being able to see a doctor without losing the house! What would happen if we were to have the same access to health care as the rest of the civilized world?
The only people who stand to lose from a universal health plan are the bloodsuckers who are making billions by keeping you and the doctor apart. They would have to go to the trouble of rearranging their investment portfolios! They would rather we kept on losing our homes and dying on hospital floors.

This Obama healthcare plan is so ridiculous and irresponsible. Obama is creating a lot of mess. He's putting us and our children in debt. First he took over the banks, then the auto industry, and now healthcare.
Stop watching MSNBC people working there are just brainwashing Americans to become socialist.

Everybody continue watching FOX news and CNN because they are more equal in reporting.
