Republicans raising cash to counter-program ABC Obama special

(CNN) - National Republicans - miffed over ABC News' decision to broadcast a primetime special next featuring President Obama making the case for his healthcare proposal - are looking to raise $100,000 to hit the airwaves with their own health care reform proposal.

"ABC News will be promoting Obamacare at virtually every opportunity, from 'Good Morning America' to 'Nightline,' and reach from ABC News' Web sites all the way to the White House's East Room," Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele writes in an e-mail titled "URGENT" to supporters Thursday.

"Please help us raise the nearly $100,000 we need to buy air time to get the truth about the disastrous consequences of the Obama Democrats' government-run health care plans out to the American people," he adds.

The letter comes a day after the RNC sent a memo to GOP members of Congress urging them to take to the local airwaves next week to discuss the party's approach to health care reform.

The RNC told congressional offices Wednesday that it will pay for and help schedule the interviews with local television reporters in their states and districts.

This is laughable. The GOP is begging for $100,000? The GOP is now living in fear–all for this country in dire need of nationalized healthcare. The GOP doesn't want to give up a red cent that's for sure. Every GOP person I have met that is all in a stitch over this healthcare issue, is rich with wonderful private healthcare and has never had to suffer the consequences of being left out. What a bunch of greedy selfish jerks.

The party of whinners has their media – Fox.
Cry baby politics with a heavy dose of hypocracy and fear, they don't need or want the truth.
The mindless minions that is the Repubs feed on lies and deception, why do they care what is on legitimate news channels, they don't watch it any way.

manhandler....I think your confusing CNN with Fox, afterall CNN allowed your ignorant comment; on FOX dissenting views are like the soon to be fisheries...absent...oh, i forgot they do have Colmes (they're one opposing viewpoint who uses logic and reason, and even then he gets filtered with reduced airtime, and he knows who he works for so he keeps it within "boundaries")...your entire message spelled out the rightwingers through and through....why do think most Academia are "leftys" (i.e. intellectuals)....lmao

Republicans have a health care plan? Huh? They don't even have a unified party, how can they have something as serious as a health care plan?

    Dear Dave @12:57

    – Just what rights, freedoms, and liberties that you have lost are you talking about?
Oh I know that it makes for a wonderful Fox battlecry!

BTW – when you saythat this presidency is on a socialist and fascist path, please quit listening to Glenn. He doesn't know that they are the exact opposite. Use your dictionary before you comment again.

Why is Obama's group not allowing for dissenting opinions on the Dem telecast re health care? This is another one of those "crisis" things Obama likes to bandy about which turns out not to be a crisis at all. He doesn't even want to give the congress time to read proposals. What the devil is up with that man? He sure hasn't been right so far on financials and jobs or auto manufacturing – except to push money to the people who supported him last year. Not the American way. No way! I want/need to hear all aspects of what's going on in USA. And, ps. the US is in bankruptcy stage now, how are we to pay for even more of his pipedreams?

Why would a network NOT air a program on a major proposal from the President? Would you rather the media ignore everything and let the President operate in secret like Bush did for eight years? Wouldn't a public airing of the President's proposal foster informed debate? Oh, yeah. Why would we want THAT to happen...
I would suggest the GOP use their money to hire someone who can write a proposal with actual numbers, instead of their usual 'think and do' pages aimed at a third-grade intellect.

Unless the RNC has a better health plan everyone should save their money. We can spend trillions to wage war and rebuild Iraq & Afghanistan, but whine and complain about spending to keep American Citizens healthy. Never ceases to amaze me how people would go against their best interests because they don't like the messenger. Obama should take a page out of Cheney's book, do what you have to do and forget about being transparent, the low information types take it a lot easier when they find out they've been taken advantage of after the fact.

At this rate, I don't see how we'll have a Republican as president for a loooonnnngggg time. My intuition tells me the RNC will even be replaced within the next 10 years. They're so out of touch with the evolution of America. They're AGAINST America evolving. Most in the RNC probably don't even believe in evolution.

Well, well, well,...guess the RNC couldn't come up with the idea on their own to have THEIR ideas put on a network channel. Only now that the President is going on ABC to talk and answer questions does it occur to them? What's that ? OH...they don't really HAVE any ideas on health care or paying for it because they'd just as soon leave it as it lies...keep their fat cat corporations and the insurance companies rolling in the dough from all us poor unfortunates. What a sad piece of work is the RNC and Michael Steele.

I find it offensive that Republicans would spend the money us hard-working Democrats had to pay in taxes to fund their welfare checks on this nonsense.

I am just amazed at the inmaturity of the RNC, GOP, and some of the Republican and Demoratic congressmen and women. My children are watching the way Americans handle themselves when they disagree and we are setting a bad example. For 4 years, I won't say 8 because I voted for George W. Bush in the 2000 election, we voiced our opinion (freedom of speech) gave suggestion and we were ignored. But we took the mature approach and waited till the 2008 election and voted out the party that wouldn't listen to the needs of the American People. Why can't we give President Obama at least that much repect. So much time and energy is spend fighting everything he does or says, that it is down right disappointing. The American people have spoken and we want change. We want change to come to old poicies, the old way of doing buisness, and change to our leaders level of maturity.

The government will never be able to pay for everyone's healthcare. What will happen is that the government will RATION your healthcare according to what it can afford. Result:

    ---------------------------
John, you're an idiot! Plain and simple. A lot of other countries, including Canada provides health care for everyone. There is no rationing going on here. I just had shoulder surgery last year.

You are too stupid to do research yourself. You just listen to Faux News and let those morons guide your opinion.

Michael Steele and the Republicans have the 24/7 anti-Obama and anti-Democrats tv channel known as FOX NEWS to spread their right wing propaganda. Guess what? Fox does it for FREE! Everyday, they blast Obama in their so called "news segments" only to fill the rest of their air time with far right demagogues like Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck. Fox News will not even cover White House news conferences...preferring to give their viewers snippets of Obama's words interlaced with partisan words from their commentators. If the GOP was given response time from ABC News on health care, it would be most likely an hour or two of dead air. This is because they have no alternative plans to propose. Giving them some primetime to just say NO on this crucial issue does not make sense!

Michael Steele and the rest of the Repugnant Party nay-sayers don't have anything constructive to say or do. All they want to do is criticize and complain about everything that comes from the Democratic Party. We know, and they know, that everything the Repugnants touch turns to crap, and their eight years in office ruined our country. And still, they continue to bully their way around so they can keep us on the wrong track, and finally finish us off. They won't be happy until they destroy our country, and our planet.

Everyone needs to calm down. One day at a time. I really believe that the Republicans are digging there own hole. As long as the republican party dosent include all people. The Party of Republicans will be a party of the past.

to add, this whole right vs. left just keeps the "necessary" schism alive and well for the rich to maintain power....they are all for the money and resources. But while we remain argumentative and never allow proper discourse to guide policy and action we let our opportunities for growth and necessary change pass us by...and ironically we decimate our resources in the process to gain from them...we are inevitably killing ourselves as we allow massive extinctions (6th...1st while humans occupied Earth) to continue "unnoticed" by the masses...Global Warming isn't anything compared to the trophic level devastation that will ultimately cascade to the human species...it is confounding

Love he ignorance of those of you complaining that ABC is giving one party a forum and not the other. The President is not a side or another he is ALL OF OUR President! This kind of resistance is to be expected though until you all get used to having a you–know-what President.

Anyone who posts that FOX SPEWS tells the truth, is being paid by FOX SPEWS to post lies.

Look around you lying freaks, the damage done to America by the Bush regime isn't apparent to you?

It may take decades to repair what Bush/Cheney/Paulson/Haliburton/Enron has done to America, if repair is even possible.....
