I still say I'm not sure Hillary fell...........could be Pelosi pushed or tripped her.

Greg   June 19th, 2009 5:57 pm ET

Hillary Hillary Hillary.....It is evident that the Clinton News Network (CNN) viewers are out to lunch.....The most pressing question on most democrats mind is where they are going to Dinner on Friday night........The typical American (The 53% who voted Democarat) are soft.....Spoiled with the distractions of the American Lifestyle.....no concept of what life is about, and what it took to put them in this cush life style.....

Terry   June 19th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

I suspect that if Secretary Clinton broke both arms and one leg, she would hop to work every morning. She does not strike me as a sissy.

Zero.   June 19th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

Will she get the Elbow?

Andi   June 19th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

Mikey C –

I suspect you were a good deal younger than Sec. Clinton and in top physical shape, since you were in the Marines, when you broke your toe. Chill out. I'm an elementary school teacher and broke my foot and nobody begrudged me for taking a few days off (since I couldn't even walk to the bathroom and had to crawl the first couple of days). So should I have 'bucked up' too? Give me a break. We're all not as 'great' and 'superior' as you. Aren't marines 'the few' and 'the proud'? Not the 'loud' and 'nasty to civilians'?

D. Tree   June 19th, 2009 4:38 pm ET

It's her elbow for gosh-sakes, not a brain injury!

kishen c.rao   June 19th, 2009 4:33 pm ET

she does fine. She does not need to be a mohammad ali to wristle. she is a fine lady, heals pretty fast....I pray god for her....she needs to work on health care fix....apart from her state sec. job.....pakistan, n. korea, and iran...etc.,

notabushwhacker   June 19th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Good thing, the clothing industry was running out of tents that could be modified to hide her girth. What caused the break? Her elbow to Bill's head when she caught him trying to teach another intern? Hope that it leads to a reduction in the amount of fuel required to haul her fat ass around the world.

jason   June 19th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Careful with that cast Bill. You make her made you'll be peeing out a tube.

People you are ridiculous, besides trying to help two parents see their children who have been stolen underseas, givining benifts to same sex couples, trying to negotiate the release of two hostages from North Korea, traveling the world standing firm with Israel about settlements, giving the human traffic report she is very busy, just because CNN and other stations are two busy with Obama watch to report on things don't means things aren't happen search the internet you find that Hillary has done many things, but obviously reporting on how Obamaa killed a fly or Bo's white house picture is much more important. CNN POST

even on morphine she would still be smarter than the whole GOP, put together (including the conservative voters).

Donald   June 19th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

I can't believe i read people bad mouthing Sarah Palin on here.... Whatever your side of politics is, one thing is clear, In one interview last week with Wolf Blitzer, Palin gave more personal opinions and more ideas than Obama and Clinton combined, in foreign affairs and domestic /national issues. At least Palin is not just monitoring the situation or consulting the allies, the two favourites sentences of Obama and Clinton. By the way, I wish i didn' t have to agree with another republican but McCain is totally right when he says Obama is not showing any leadership, he is acting ( thats not true he does nothing he can't be acting sorry) like a follower a great sign of weakness. There is a revolution in the world and we speak about gay issues or Guantanamo....Lets please put things in perspective quickly, the world is waiting for Leadership. I don't know but Palin will definetely get my vote at presidential next time, she would have to screw up really badly so I vote for someone else, i even think she would get more votes if she goes independent which i really hope she does.

i've broken an elbow – it stinks, but unless she's driving a stick shift or hand writing essay tests (broke mine during finals week one semester) she'll be fine

Kim P   June 19th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

It isn't as though she has been doing much anyway...Maybe she has had a nervous breakdown. Haven't seen anything of her, in light of all the world's events, since her laughing fit at the pirates. Oh, and to Dutch/Bad News, VA- what smack down on N Korea? If they attack us, we will just apologize for our past arrogant behavior – you know the arrogant behavior that helped save the world from Hitler? Maybe she spoke up against the Supreme Leader Obama and she's getting the stage left...

Realistic   June 19th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

H.Clinton will be fine.....
@doug, normal democrats don't want any harm to come to Palin. We just want to help the republicans conservative party to stop driniking the palin punch. And most republicans only want Palin to stay in the media so they can gawk at her, especially the conservatives part of the party. Why else? Anyone who thinks Africa is a country can not be taken serious by anyone. We know the truth, its okay..

MaryJo Bruce Surprise, Ariz   June 19th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

Hillarys elbow surgery shouldn't affect her job much. She just goes to meetings. Many of us have had multiple surgeries. Backs, shoulders, and still make it to work doing lifting and the rest. Bite the bullet Hillery.

Chai-wallah   June 19th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Best wishes Senator Clinton.ahhhh...Madam Secretary.

You know, American is not a bad place at all. Take for instance the little girl who was dying of cancer; her only wish was to see the movie "UP"

She could not make it to the movie because she was too sick and a wheelchair did not arrive. Some called Pixar and Disney and guess what? Pixar sent a REP to the little girl's home with a DVD of the movie and several memorabilia’s. The little was too sick to watch the entire movie so her mother narrated. When it was over, she was asked if she enjoyed the movie; she replied by nodding her head.

She died later that night. The REP was so over whelmed, he welled up with tears. That made me cry too...you see...America is not a bad place at all.

Why isn't there a video icon next to this in the listing of stories? I want to READ news, not watch it. Very deceptive, CNN. No, I did not watch this. I'll go read about it on another site.

VoiceOfReason   June 19th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

It must be a really, REALLY slow news day.

Unless she has bizaare complications from surgery she'll have a few hours on either side of the surgery that she won't be able to be involved...and then MAYBE a day or two that she'll be at 80-90% *IF* she requires a lot of pain meds.

How about more news coverage of the perverse incentives in the healthcare system - like the piece on NPR earlier this week which discussed, in-part, physician-owned imaging centers. That's news. That's analysis. This - is tabloid.

Trade Freedom for Security, Lose Both   June 19th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

Clinton should have gone to Canada or the UK for her surgery because we all know that government health care is the way to go.

Kenyan Wonder Kid   June 19th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

How will it affect her job as SoS? Not at all, of course. Obama has strategically positioned several Czars and emissaries for all of the hot spots around the world and they report more directly to him than Hillary does.

Thus, she has no real power or authority – Obama strategically positioned her to stay out of his way while in full view! Amazingly, he did the same thing with Bill "Haiti Task Force" Clinton. Brilliant moves if you ask me...

You know this may indeed affect her job. If they have to operate on her elbow and have to put a pin in it she may never be able to go through those security gates to get on a plane and we may never get rid of her or ever get her out of the country again!!!! Oh NO, NOW I AM SCARED.

Kenyan Wonder Kid   June 19th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

C'mon folks, let's treat this as the serious news question which it is. I can quickly come up with several ways in which this may affect Hillary's performance in the administration. For example, if range of motion is limited then she will likely have to use her other arm in providing services to the president.

Mikey c   June 19th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

There will be plenty of people who will be glad to help her if need be,

Sue   June 19th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Hey Doug in NJ,
Not every Democrat wishes harm to the Palin family. I think that this is the typical paronoia of the repubs that got us in to Iraq. Ease up buddy. I don't wish harm on any Republican-I just wish that some in your party would use some of the "family" and Christian values and not demonize anyone who disagrees with them (like anyone who disagreed with W had their character crushed--when he was the one who had no character or morale values). Hats off to you Doug for showing some compassion for your fellow American-–now could you just get the rest of your party members to do the same?

Mike C. from Canada   June 19th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Hilary Clinton's elbow surgery might prevent her from "pitching heat" at her adversaries, but she might be able to skillfully lobby "changeups" and befuddle them. Failing those, she could always give them the "split-finger".

Mary the Democrat   June 19th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

Besides.......HIllary can do it all this will not affect her at all.

Okay CNN, where did my comment go? Why are you censoring people's comment when they do not use any foul language or make threatening remarks? There was nothing offensive in any fashion in my comment.

Are you afraid less people might post comments out here if a mirror is put up to them? If you can't take the heat, why do constantly set yourself up for it?

Why do I suspect this post will never get posted? And, if it does, I suspect no one from CNN will have the spine to reply.

Fatima   June 19th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

Folks, This isn't news. Is this a "slow news day"?
A person would have to be a total idiot to start such a story/question. It is just her elbow. The person who wrote up this story needs to check his/her judgment examined.

Lou   June 19th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

What a completely stupid, ignorant headline. How will her surgery affect her job???? Come on! Have you EVER said this about any male politician except maybe Ted Kennedy who has cancer of the brain????

Why does Hillary Clinton scares so many men???? It's beyond me!

I'm certain she can continue to perform her job with the utmost in intelligence and efficiency in spite of CNN's little snit here.

Scott   June 19th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

I love it, Dems get defensive and attack Palin and Bush. Reps go on the offensive and attack H.C. (while she's wounded?). However no-one seems to have read the full story. Our SecState will be undergoing treatment for pain and will return for more surgery in a couple of weeks – perhaps under a general. So, yes, this is going to affect her performance. However, she has a staff and lots of support. So hopefully things will be fine...

Jamie McGuirk-Cooney   June 19th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

Our troops endure the most horrendous pain and suffering, so this little incident is simply a "minor temporary inconveniece." She'll make it just fine.

Edwin   June 19th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

@Doug,

"...Unlike every Democrat in America who at the very least wishes harm to Sarah Palin's entire family..."

This is really not true! A few people posting do not represent the country! Most Democrats, I think, disliked her as a politician. But I know a great many Democrats, and not even one wishes harm to Sarah Palin or her family.

Not every Democrat is full of hate and anger, though it's easy to forget when you read posts. The same can be said about Republicans, too!

EDC   June 19th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

To
Doug, New Jersey

Quite the generalization to say that every Democrat wishes Sarah Palin and her family harm. I'm a Democrat and have no such feelings whatsoever. I wish Gov. Palin and her family the best. Just because I don't believe she's presidential or vice-presidential material doesn't mean I wish her ill.

And to further state that every Republican wishes Senator Clinton a speedy recovery is an outright lie. Sen. Clinton was correct back in 1993 about the vast right-wing conspiracy. It's still with us and now attacking both Sen. Clinton and President Obama, and it's still pathetic, just like the Republican Party.

Annie   June 19th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

Doug, New Jersey, isn't assuming all us Democrats think alike a little small minded? Is that how ALL Republicans think? I would never wish Sarah Palin or her family any harm, ever, even thought I disagree with her politics. I even included President Bush's safety in my prayers when he traveled abroad, and I disagreed with just about everything he said and did. Now what do you have to say?

Ana   June 19th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

"Does someone get fired for being sick or injured on the job. "

Yes - all too often! I agree the question of whether Hillary Clinton's elbow surgery will affect her job performance is ridiculous. However, if this question could be used as a catalyst to discuss the difficult situations that many workers in this country and around the world face when they are injured, then it may be worth asking. Never mind, America – please go back to fretting over the latest celebrity sex scandal and its oh-so-huge impact on your daily existence.

Just an elbow ... must be a slow news day ... quit trying to stir up controversay where there is none, CNN ...

honest Ab   June 19th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

CNN, obviously has no news! We go to work with broke arms, legs, toes, knees, teeth and any other joint you can name every day. So what's the point in this article? The difference is we can't afford to not go, people like Hillary, who I have no problem with has been eating from a silver bowel since a child, so it wouldn't matter to her if she showed up or not, it want take any food off her table nor keep her from paying her bills.

ch   June 19th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

As long as there is no damage to her brilliant mind, she will continue to excel.

If Palin could run as VP with considerable brain damage, Hillary can master her SOS responsibilities with a fractured elbow!

PK California   June 19th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

No matter what and how the context of Hillary's life is presented in such articles and visuals such as this, it is just an avenue for ugly people to come out of the dark and express their ugliness into our wonderful world.

There is enough ugliness in the world ... without even more showing their faces.

An olecranon break is painful and will take occupational therapy rehabilitation. I broke the same bone in Dec. and required surgical fixation. Whether or not she does anything in office is debatable, but I can honestly say she is going to be limited in her movements of that arm for at least 3 to 4 months. She will lose strength and flexibility, and will have to be on a graduated therapy program to work around the bone's healing process to get back her range of motion and strength. There is also a possibility of permanent nerve damage of the Ulnar nerve, because it runs through a groove on the olecranon and in most cases, has to be moved out of the way in order to reach the bone to put in metal hardware to fix the break.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of her job in office. However, the break in her elbow is not just something that is minor and will go away. It will require surgery, and there will be a substantial recovery period. It's not a walk in the park, that's for sure.

Belle1   June 19th, 2009 11:58 am ET

I wish Hillary a speedy recovery. The doctor will probably have to strap her to the bed to prevent her from going back to work about 1/2 hour out of surgery.

Mary Beth   June 19th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Big deal. I'm an elected official and have a full-time job, and I just came out of a walking boot for an ankle injury. Yeah, I was at home three days to stay off it, but my Blackberry, phone and computer all worked. It's a broken elbow; it may alter her travel schedule, but she'll be able to work just fine. Unless there is a need for her to elbow the leader of another country in the mouth, there's no duty she can't perform.

marie detre   June 19th, 2009 11:55 am ET

are you serious cnn?
is that all you have to worry about today?
get a life, and stop picking up on Hillary!! enough already!!

Demarcus Jackson from Columbia, TN   June 19th, 2009 11:51 am ET

I don't think Clinton's injury will impact her job any more than an injury may impact the job of the average working person. I'm sure that she is still working from home or even working on scheduling more meetings. She can pop back a pain relief pill, put her arm in a sling, and keep on working. She seems more than capable of doing her job with this injury.

Dan Holiday   June 19th, 2009 11:50 am ET

She does something to begin with? I know she has a title, S.O.S., but I didn't think she really did anything worth while. I mean she hasn't done much with Israel, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., etc.. As far as I am concerned, I hope this does affect her job...for the better.

wc   June 19th, 2009 11:49 am ET

Yes, I think it does effect her job. SHE SHOULD RESIGN IMMEDIATELY!

Catherine   June 19th, 2009 11:49 am ET

Your press coverage gets more pathetic with each passing day!

Annapolitan   June 19th, 2009 11:49 am ET

I'm rather surprised to see this story on Secretary Clinton and her injured elbow, especially with its focus of how this injury would affect her performance of her job. In fact I can't think of nor find any other story regarding a head of state or cabinet member who sustained an illness or an injury where the reporting was focused on how an illness or injury would affect the job performance of the person concerned.

When Pres. Clinton hurt his knee during his second term and had to undergo surgery at Bethesda, there were no reports about this might affect his role.

Nor when John Ashcroft was seriously ill and hospitalized during Pres. Bush's first term - no stories about how his illness would affect his job performance.

So why all the focus on Secretary Clinton and her role as Secretary of State?

marie detre   June 19th, 2009 11:48 am ET

are you serious cnn? what did she ever do to you?
she is just great she will do fine.
Go Hillary!!

Linda from Indiana   June 19th, 2009 11:47 am ET

Sorry to hear about Hillary's fall. Anyone who thinks she doesn't do anything isn't listening to the news. Hillary probably works harder than most of the dead beats out there that have nothing better to do than leave comments about something they know nothing about.

Expat American   June 19th, 2009 11:47 am ET

It won't affect her at all. She's been ducking, weaving, and throwing some mean uppercuts towards the Right for 20+ years! Only difference is now, as Secretary of State, she'll be doing it southpaw.

She's one tough cookie. One day, she will be our first woman President.

We love you Madame Secretary! Get well soon.

Independent thinker   June 19th, 2009 11:46 am ET

What has she accomplished so far that could possibly be affected by this? So far she is a 'non-starter' as Secretary of State. Our foreign policies seem to be 'wait and see.'

Gmc   June 19th, 2009 11:44 am ET

So, if a person breaks her right elbow, it might temporarily effect her ability to do her job? Really? Who ever would have guessed? Thank heavens CNN is on top of this earth-shaking story.

Monica   June 19th, 2009 11:43 am ET

I broke my elbow and managed to go on. Hillary will do the same. She's a pro and a hard working gal, she'll bounce back and it will have no affect on her performance at all.

Max   June 19th, 2009 11:41 am ET

Ooops! I had a hair cut so I can't think properly! Come on CNN. But on the other hand, aren't we all rather petty to react to such nonsense from CNN?

jim   June 19th, 2009 11:39 am ET

@ ann

Are you one of those disgruntal 17 milllion cracks!!! Get over yourself – Obama put her in his cabinent she did not have to accept she did.

God people like you need to leave the country you are not an american

Obama Victim   June 19th, 2009 11:39 am ET

perhaps Obozo could just heal her???????

Carrie   June 19th, 2009 11:38 am ET

Is this the reason your ratings are going down? This is a non-story. As a previous commenter said folks get injured all the time and continue with their work. Not a big deal. I respect Hillary Clinton and wish CNN would print more relevant articles on her work. Not this junk.

dk   June 19th, 2009 11:38 am ET

@ Brett June 19th, 2009 9:49 am ET

Finally, you sit down and STAY in USA for few months.. let focus on OUR home, as it is your duty.. not other country!

Brett, you are an idiot, It IS her job to travel to other countries representing the US interest. If she was staying IN the US, she WOULDN'T be doing her job! Moron!!!

Obama Victim   June 19th, 2009 11:38 am ET

will make it tough to surrender.....both arms in the air...don't ya know

David   June 19th, 2009 11:37 am ET

How would a little elbow surgery effect her job? wow! I need the name and address of the smart one that came up with that question.

Alex Badme, Albuquerque, NM   June 19th, 2009 11:35 am ET

It is a plus for this country. It would have better though if she had broken her mouth.

Ann   June 19th, 2009 11:33 am ET

she'll be fine, don't make a big deal out of this... or maybe Mr. Obama wants to find a reason to send her home? I wouldn't be surprised, he is still scared of her power.

Laurie in Spokane   June 19th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Is CNN for real? What a stupid question about her broken elbow affecting her job. Come on!! Her head's not broken.....I think CNN's corporate head is tho.

Wingnuttia-Free Zone   June 19th, 2009 11:31 am ET

CNN = Create the (Goofy) News Network

Joan   June 19th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Good luck Hillary! I love you!

Mike   June 19th, 2009 11:27 am ET

Responding to Brett's comment, before you post you need to understand what you are talking about. It is not her job to "stay home". It is her job to be aware of what the rest of the world is doing and how it affects the US.

Ellie, MD   June 19th, 2009 11:27 am ET

Oh please, this is such a STUPID question. HOW did it affect Gates ability to do HIS job? WHY should it affect it at all. We live in the 21st Century, Secretary Clinton does not have to be closed up in an office to function.

Come on CNN, where's your brain?

GI Joe   June 19th, 2009 11:26 am ET

Does her job require arm-wrestling?

St Louie   June 19th, 2009 11:25 am ET

She simply broke her elbow! This woman will work through this because she's tough and determined, like most of us. She'll have her surgery and a couple days of light duty and that's the end of the story! Besides, it's her decision making capabilities and her international relations that matter here, not whether she can use her elbow.

Rob   June 19th, 2009 11:25 am ET

Shouldn't affect her job at all. She's still able to kiss the butts of terrorist regimes, and bad mouth allies like Israel.

Proud Member..Party of No   June 19th, 2009 11:23 am ET

Hopefully it will keep her at home to prevent her from inflicting any further damage to our country.

AJ   June 19th, 2009 11:17 am ET

It shouldn't affect it at all !!! She dosen't do ANYTHING !!!!!

Susan in NC   June 19th, 2009 11:16 am ET

There is absolutely no way, Secretary of State Clinton will allow her broken elbow to keep her from her duties. She's one tough lady and I wish her well.

WDRussell   June 19th, 2009 11:16 am ET

For people our age(Hillary and me), falls are a lot more important to us than they were 40 years ago.

KJL   June 19th, 2009 11:14 am ET

All this news makes it sound like she injured her brain, not her elbow. It's a miserable injury, but she will recover.

Doraine Gordon   June 19th, 2009 11:07 am ET

Hillary's broken elbow won't have any effect on her jb. She is one tough cookie who can handle anything that is thrown at her. She is doing an excellent job and I think our country is lucky to have her for our Secretary Of State.

dennis   June 19th, 2009 11:07 am ET

WAH There are millions of people out there suffering more than her and do they get in the news.....NO NO NO come on you guys get with it......

Ren from Baltimore   June 19th, 2009 11:05 am ET

It takes physical events like this to remind one of mortality. In so doing, it usually focuses attention on getting most out of the time left.

I anticipate she will focus ever more intently on her main tasks and objectives. I would want to be on whatever side she's on from now on!

Go Hillary! Go America!

Pragmatic   June 19th, 2009 11:01 am ET

She broke her elbow – not her head! She has a good team and seeing her in action when running her campaign ... a lot a stamina and energy... she'll do her job just fine.

The MSM – always looking for the negative – even wondering if the crew on the plane the pilot died on should have told the passengers. Nope: just land the plane without having to deal with frightened customers.

Reben   June 19th, 2009 10:58 am ET

Reben Navarrette-
You can say what ever you want to whom ever you want-
President Obama is right about keeping silent. Let those people handle there own problems, if there is one The U.S. has enough problems here at home. No one else comes to our aide.

EVA KIRK   June 19th, 2009 10:53 am ET

I think after a few days of rest, she will be right back at it. she is an incredible woman.

Melissa   June 19th, 2009 10:50 am ET

The same way it does everyone elses job. She'll hurt, take painkillers, but do everything she can not to be out of work becase she can't afford it while she wears a sling on her arm until it heals.

Thats life.

Deborah   June 19th, 2009 10:44 am ET

I'm at a loss to understand why you would post the heading on the CNN home page "surgery affects Clinton's job." Why is it necessary to be provacative about a bone break fo rsomeone who will no doubt still handle her job competently and capably. I can't recall any instance when you have reported on a man who is injured or required surgery where the heading suggested that their job performance would be compromised.

therealmarie   June 19th, 2009 10:43 am ET

Hillary Clinton has always been a strong powerfull inteligent woman. A woman to be admired by all. She is doing a great job for Pres. Obama and our nation. Hopes she mends well and feels better soon.

affect her job?   June 19th, 2009 10:39 am ET

it will not affect her fantastic job she is doing.

Sherri   June 19th, 2009 10:38 am ET

OMG that must hurt. Let nature take its course; don't try and rush the healing process. God Bless.

phoenix86   June 19th, 2009 10:36 am ET

As long as she can talk, she can continue apologizing. As long as she can turn her head, she can continue to ignore North Korea and Iran.

Her injury doesn't prevent her from continuing to be useless.

Don   June 19th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Ok, it's not like she has been doing a whole lot to start with... there is tons of foreign affairs issues to be act upon and we never see her anywhere... I wish her good recovery and a few briefing on what is happening in the world could also be good to help her come back and take some decision

Matthew   June 19th, 2009 10:33 am ET

Really CNN? Are you serious? How will it affect her job? Did she fracture her brain?

Mississippi Mike   June 19th, 2009 10:22 am ET

She'll be fine, just need some rest and relaxation. She couldn't have picked a worse time, though. With Iran and Pakistan in upheavel and North Korea announcing that they will fire a missile toward Hawaii she needs to be at work now more than ever.

Fet up with CNN!   June 19th, 2009 10:22 am ET

CNN, you are so distasteful...your Ticker starts off on your main screen as "Hillary Clinton's jop to be affected by her injury/surgery"...then you click in and the title changes to "how will Hillary's injury affect her job"....so sick of CNN's bull!

Longhorn#1   June 19th, 2009 10:11 am ET

It shouldn't effect her job anymore than it would anyone else in america. COME ON PLEASE> That is a ridiculous heading. Does someone get fired for being sick or injured on the job. She could stay at home and word and do more than what went on in the past eight years.

MPH   June 19th, 2009 10:11 am ET

It' not like she is going to be unconscious.

Mike

Sylvia   June 19th, 2009 10:08 am ET

There is a major protest in another part of the world and this is your top article on the political ticker. CNN, who do you have writing these articles a bunch of high schoolers?

Voter   June 19th, 2009 10:05 am ET

If anyone can do 12 things at once while suffering searing pain, it's Hillary Clinton. She should the President right now – we wouldn't have the awful spending race.

She would straighten out the economy, then tackle the deficit, THEN move to universal health care. That's how grown-ups handle things.

Our current clown wants everything NOW, no waiting – the usual case with spoiled brats who have a solid steel sense of entitlement.

Well, America, we've waited this long, we can and should wait a bit longer and go forward with something we can pay for.

Alfred E. Neumann   June 19th, 2009 10:04 am ET

Still the liberals looking to bash Hillary Clinton at every opportunity.

How will the injury to Sonia Sotomayor affect her nomination to the Supreme Court? Oops, don't go there.

Lack of intelligence has never affected Brian Todd's ability to draw a pay check so why should a broken elbow be a problem with Hillary.

Glen   June 19th, 2009 9:57 am ET

From a responsibility point of view it will make no difference. The president has successfully sidelined her. He has carved out the world and given it to those he can trust. Hillary is just the figure head in the pantsuit

sifto77   June 19th, 2009 9:55 am ET

what job? I don't think King Obama has been letting her do anything....

Francis Pantzis   June 19th, 2009 9:53 am ET

I think it's hilarious that she broke her elbow – I bet she'll get an earful about it from her orthopaedic surgeon, should have given her the universal health care "you'll have to wait 2 weeks for us to get to you".

Ryan, CT   June 19th, 2009 9:53 am ET

Clinton's job is more important then ever right now!!

EO   June 19th, 2009 9:52 am ET

Wishing her a speedy recovery. She has endured more pain than that in her life from her enemies namely the now (Redundant party.)

She will overcome her surgery with flying colors, she is tough and resilence.

Wishing you God blessings I will keep you in my prayers.

Take care.

Gina in Racine Wi   June 19th, 2009 9:50 am ET

Ok people. Come on....this is Hillary Clinton.

She wont miss a beat.

Brett   June 19th, 2009 9:49 am ET

Finally, you sit down and STAY in USA for few months.. let focus on OUR home, as it is your duty.. not other country!

MD   June 19th, 2009 9:48 am ET

Is it my imagination or does the media seem to be reporting on every single detail of this new administration in a way they never reported on the last one? Or maybe it's just me.

Larry   June 19th, 2009 9:48 am ET

It's her elbow ...!!!!

I'm sure someone as smart as Clinton will still know how to use her brain

john h   June 19th, 2009 9:40 am ET

Kobe broke his fingers and can still play. Clinton is not even a sportsman, so Im pretty sure Clinton is on top of her game.
Stop attacking our beloved Clinton.

Philip   June 19th, 2009 9:39 am ET

Imagine if this lady was president!

Sniffit   June 19th, 2009 9:33 am ET

I imagine it won't...other than a short pseudo-vaca after the surgery. I think no matter which party you side with, you have to admit she's a tough lady, and, for those of us who have broken things, we know it's not that bad. Might be a little awkward meeting with world leaders in an uncomfortable cast, but seriously CNN, this is just more "make-news." Grasping at controversy-straws much?

poor hillary   June 19th, 2009 9:30 am ET

good timming- you should be on your way to korea

Willy Brown   June 19th, 2009 9:28 am ET

It should not. Her mouth still works so she'll still be blowing hot air

roger dowdle, lockhart, Tx   June 19th, 2009 9:27 am ET

Hey, people- she broke her elbow, not her head! It will undoubtably cause some physical discomfort, but shouldn't interfere with her ability to think! The media should quit trying to create news and stick to reporting it.

jennifer   June 19th, 2009 9:25 am ET

I have so much respect for Hillary. I wish her a speedy recovery. Thank you for the great job you are doing in Washington. America needs you now, more than ever.

Nate   June 19th, 2009 9:18 am ET

It will affect her the same way it would affect anyone who has to take time off for an injury or illness.

Do you expect this woman to be superhuman?

Carl from MI   June 19th, 2009 9:14 am ET

It will affect her and her job just like any other person who's broken their arm or elbow and has to work!! DUH!!!!

How stoopid is this story, CNN? Maybe we should comment on her getting her hair cut and styled too? Maybe we should comment on her new pants suit? DUH!!!

CNN... please stick to stories about Sarah Palin!! At least she wants to be in the news for whatever stoopid reasons.

John   June 19th, 2009 9:13 am ET

My God, CNN, can you NOT ever pick on Hillary Clinton? What a bunch of mean spirited people must work at CNN. Its just ridiculous.

susan nunn   June 19th, 2009 9:11 am ET

Please...... it is just her elbow....not her brain.

dennis   June 19th, 2009 9:05 am ET

Quit with this crap and make some news.....

The lonely Libertarian of Liverpool NY   June 19th, 2009 9:04 am ET

What's up with the speculation of job performance here CNN? Ms. Clinton has had an accident, I'm sure she has the best of people to cover for her while she recovers. People get sick and injuried everyday and need to recover, their jobs will wait, others will step up to maintain service levels.
I refuse to be baited into fear mongering.
Here's to keeping a positive thought for her speedy recovery with limited discomfort.

Republican Defector   June 19th, 2009 9:00 am ET

FAB-O-LOS...she has Health Insurance...Unlike many Americans who want president Obama to continue working for the American People, both Republican and Democrats who do not have health insurance and living in poor health.

jesse   June 19th, 2009 9:00 am ET

She will continue to do great work. A broken elbow won't keep Hillary down!

Stu-Florida   June 19th, 2009 8:59 am ET

Just why would a broken elbow affect her job?? It's her brains and determination to make this country and thus the world, a better place.

George   June 19th, 2009 8:58 am ET

Hillary is a very smart lady and understands her duties very well. And, the surgery will be done on her elbow, not her head. She can make tough decisions then delegate.

Dawn In Pa   June 19th, 2009 8:54 am ET

Ouch, that does hurt! I broke a toe when I was ten and I sprain my foot, the same foot I broke a toe and it swelled up quite quickly. I was at work and I was getting stock out and something fell, with quick reflex, I jumped back, I had my boss questioned if I really sprained it at work. I told him yes, I never complained if I was hurt, nor did I do an incident report, and trust me I did get hurt, but when you are hobbling it's noticable. They had to do an incident report and they paid for everything, but I actually did not want to do that, since I had a ladder hit my head, fell backward and fell through a door, yes I was hurt, but never complained. LOL

Get well Madam Secretary, you are doing a great job.

southerncousin   June 19th, 2009 8:53 am ET

I'm sure she will apologize to everyone, we can all tell how well this "smart" diplomacy is working, look at NKorea, Iran Mexico. What a big fraud, but she is a perfect match for the most fraudulent administration we have ever had.

ssalley   June 19th, 2009 8:52 am ET

It wont effect her job, at all she is a bright lady.

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   June 19th, 2009 8:50 am ET

At this point, it will slow down what she can do and how many places she can go to meet with people. After the surgery, she'll have to slow down for a few weeks and look a little silly with her arm in a cast. With those exceptions, she can still call people, be briefed on different things by her staff and make decisions.

Fair is Fair   June 19th, 2009 8:48 am ET

Well, it shouldn't make one bit of difference. Painful injury, yes. But how is having her arm in a cast going to change how she performs the duties of SOS?

Josh from Knoxville, TN   June 19th, 2009 8:43 am ET

Realistically, it won't make much of a difference.... she wasn't doing anything anyway.... I'm sure it is a painful injury but having her out of the way for a while will benefit the US as a country. So way to take one for the team, Hill.

U.S. Common Sense   June 19th, 2009 8:39 am ET

Are you serious? It is just a broken elbow. She'll have a day out of the office and have to wear a sling for a while. It's not going to affect her job at all.

RUTY   June 19th, 2009 8:32 am ET

What a silly question. It won't effect her job in any way. Who thought up this question?

rob   June 19th, 2009 8:32 am ET

oh for God's sake she isn't having brain surgery . its just her elbow–this is a non topic. no news today

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   June 19th, 2009 8:29 am ET

She'll be just fine. That elbow of hers will be ready to swing in full motion to put the smack down on N. Korea.
