(CNN) - MoveOn.org is targeting a Democratic senator Friday over her apparent opposition to the health care proposal President Obama has proposed.
In a radio ad airing in the New Orleans market, the liberal political action committee criticizes Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu for expressing opposition to legislation that would provide Americans with a choice of public health care.
"Why is Mary Landrieu opposing the president's plan to provide health care choices for all Americans, including the option to join a high quality public health insurance plan?" the ad's narrator says, noting the senator has received "$1.6 million in campaign contributions from the health care industry - the same industry that's now spending millions to stop the president's plan."
After initially signaling she would be in favor of a public option last year, Landrieu told reporters last week she was against any health care reform package that offered such a policy.
"I'm not open to a public option," she said. "However, I will remain open to a compromise, a full compromise. [A] public option is not something that I support. I don't think it's the right way to go."
But Landrieu, whose vote could be decisive in blocking a potential Republican filibuster against a health care bill, said she may still vote for a package that includes a public option.
"It would be unlikely, but I'm not saying no," she told reporters.
The radio spot is set to air through Wednesday.

Targeting Mary Landrieu with this kind of advertising is not likely to win her over to Obama's side. Who are these thugs that are targeting reasonable opposition? Is this the kind of country we want – one that doesn't allow opposing views to be expressed? Wow – we've come a long way baby and I don't mean that in a good way.
Here comes the lobbiest... This Country does not really care about the citizens, they could care if someone dies... Well if you are uninsured and if you have cancer, and you cannot go to the hospital, I can tell you the Government can and will intervein and if you cannot pay the high cost, well your screwed. Back down you lobbiest and let the people have health care.
She is from Louisiana – what do you expect? It is just taken for granted that all Louisiana politicians can and have been bought off. Her father was a felon (just not convicted) and she is of the same ilk!

moveon is losing its steam. I used to be a member of the said organization when it started in the 90's (Clinton – Lewinsky scandal, what is "is" – remember?). But I've noticed the organization is moving too far left; they have no place for moderates like me – I left the organization and stop sending my contribution. I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative, I don't believe in extremism either left or right. It was moderates like me who put democrats where they are now, next year election it would be moderates like me who will take them down. Polls done by gallup this year, over 40% of US voters are now conservative, 36% are moderates. The democraps have destroyed trust and confidence moderates have bestowed on them.

It is obvious to me that she and her family have great coverage otherwise she would be able to empathize with middle American because she has been there.

Sen Landrieu is following the views and wishes of the voters and the state of Louisiana whom she was elected to service. Louisiana is a solid Republican state and does not want to burden its citizens with additional taxes, costs and charges to provide taxpayer funded health care for the rest of the country.
Look, I don't like any politician, but maybe, just maybe, this Senator is balking because the cost for the "pie in the sky" health plan is $1.6 trillion. Maybe she realizes that reform can occur without breaking the country's back.
