(CNN) - MoveOn.org is targeting a Democratic senator Friday over her apparent opposition to the health care proposal President Obama has proposed.
In a radio ad airing in the New Orleans market, the liberal political action committee criticizes Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu for expressing opposition to legislation that would provide Americans with a choice of public health care.
"Why is Mary Landrieu opposing the president's plan to provide health care choices for all Americans, including the option to join a high quality public health insurance plan?" the ad's narrator says, noting the senator has received "$1.6 million in campaign contributions from the health care industry - the same industry that's now spending millions to stop the president's plan."
After initially signaling she would be in favor of a public option last year, Landrieu told reporters last week she was against any health care reform package that offered such a policy.
"I'm not open to a public option," she said. "However, I will remain open to a compromise, a full compromise. [A] public option is not something that I support. I don't think it's the right way to go."
But Landrieu, whose vote could be decisive in blocking a potential Republican filibuster against a health care bill, said she may still vote for a package that includes a public option.
"It would be unlikely, but I'm not saying no," she told reporters.
The radio spot is set to air through Wednesday.

What if the cost out of your pocket for the Public Health Insurance Plan is more than you are already paying for your private policy. How will that help all of you whiners that think this is some magic pill. Problem is, you aren't going to know what the monthly premium for you will be until the bill passes, they have time to set up a government insurance agency and start calculating costs and risks.

If MoveOn is for something it must suck. But we already know that the main reason Obama is proposing this is to create another entitlement program at a time when the current ones will drive us to bankruptcy.

Any politician, especially Democratic politicians who do not support a public option will pay a political price, and I will personally contribute toward that effort.

Most of our Democratic Congressmen and Senators never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. After all, they have a swell job, GREAT medical benefits, and everyone claps for them wherever they go. They don't want to lose that cushy position and actually have to work for a living.
As for the health care thing, I certainly hope that NO ONE who is on medicare or social security is posting messages in opposition to proposals to give the same benefits to others who are often more deserving.
I think if you can't afford healthcare you should die. That is why healthcare costs so much, all these doctors treating people and then not getting paid means they have to raise the price for everyone else. They have bills to pay... So, either accept to live in a country where you will hear, "I am sorry you child is dieing, but you are poor, so there is nothing we can do." Or make sure every patient can pay. I am favor of letting poor people die myself, I'll call it, natural selection. No goverment help for the poor or uninsured!!!!! Who's with me? Call your senetor and tell them to change the laws requiring patients be treated with out making a deposit or showing proof of insurance first. That is how to get healthcare costs down.
The question is:
Is medical care a right or a luxury? If it is a RIGHT then a public option is the ONLY answer. If it is a LUXURY, then only the rich can get it. Period.

The insurance industry is buying votes on this matter on both sides of the aisle. It's just the fact that republicans seem to flip for their "god money" much more quickly than the democrats. It's such a shame that so much of our hard-earned money (that's where the insurance companies get it ... us!) is actually working AGAINST us now. We need either single-payer or a public option for the good of the people!
