Palin hits back at 'malicious' photo

Palin is upset with a blogger who doctored a photo of herself and son Trig.

(CNN) – A week after a high-profile uproar with comedian David Letterman over the late-night host's joke about her daughter, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is again sharply responding to the appearance of her children in the public sphere.

Palin's latest response comes after liberal Alaskan Blogger Linda Kellen Biegel doctored a photograph of the former Republican vice presidential candidate with her 1-year-old son Trig, who suffers from Down Syndrome.

Biegel, who blogs in support of the Alaska Democratic Party under the name "Celtic Diva," superimposed a picture of conservative Alaskan radio host Eddie Burke over Trig's face in an apparent effort to show how close the radio host is with the Alaskan governor.

"Recently we learned of a malicious desecration of a photo of the Governor and baby Trig that has become an iconic representation of a mother's love for a special needs child," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapelton said in a statement provided to CNN. "The mere idea of someone doctoring the photo of a special needs baby is appalling."

Stapelton also suggested President Obama should speak out against such behavior from liberal activists.

"Babies and children are off limits," She said. "It is past time to restore decency in politics and real tolerance for all Americans. The Obama Administration sets the moral compass for its party. We ask that special needs children be loved, respected and accepted and that this type of degeneracy be condemned."

Responding on her blog to the uproar, Biegel said in no uncertain terms the doctored picture was intended to make fun of Burke, not Trig Palin.

"It's called 'Baby Burke' because it's Eddie Burke...basically his probable second-biggest fantasy about the Governor," she wrote. "So, connecting the dots for you...WE'RE MAKING FUN OF EDDIE BURKE!!!!!!"

Earlier this month Biegel filed an ethics complaint against Palin for wearing a jacket made by a company that sponsored her husband - a snow mobile racer - to a public event. An investigator ruled Palin had not acted wrongly and the Alaska governor accused Biegel "asinine political grandstanding."

    Desecration? Are they serious?

The "Eternal Victim" edition of Caribou Barbie says three different lines when you pull her string. One is, "The mere idea of someone (insert latest perceived slight here) is appalling." Another is, "Babies and children are off limits. (Unless I'm exploiting them for my own political gain.)" Pick up yours today for hours and hours of amusement.

People leave her alone. When you do stuff like this or a Letterman joke, you give her something to be "outraged" about. Then she gets 15 more minutes of fame. Leave her alone and she will fade back into obscurity where she belongs.

Wow really? AGAIN? Has she not learned? Once again...shes trying to make a bigger deal out of something. Call on Obama to condemn it? WHAT?? So that they can turn around and accuse him of trying to take away people's first amendment rights?

The more grandstanding she does (irony existing in last line of this story btw) the more shes locking herself out of having any chance to run for president in 2012.

Using her children as a crutch to get people to pity her. Thats the type of garbage you see in the welfare lines.

Poor Palin. Now that she's out of the limelight, she has to keep making a fuss over nothing to throw herself back in. She's afraid we're going to forget her, being so forgettable and all. Good for the Celtic Diva! I'm going to read her regularly from now on!

Sarah Palin seriously needs to get over herself and stop taking everything so personally. If she wants a provate life, tell her to get a job in the private sector. Do not run for PUBLIC office and then complain about media treatment. It comes with the territory!

The extreme elements of both parties will always push the boundry of the First Amendment further and further. Politics has gotten so nasty and hateful that it should not suprise anyone. Just because something might seem funny does not make it appropriate.
Palin is incorrect when she suggests that Obama should get involved in this matter. He is the president he can not come out against everything that happens that is tasteless and or unappropriate because if he did, he would never get anything done. If Obama comes out against everything that is done by the extreme right nutjobs and the extreme left, he would be on TV all day and never get his work done.

Sarah Palin needs to get a thicker skin and a little common sense. The photo was obviously a shot at her political affiliations and not at her special needs child. She needs to stop hiding behind her family and this false victimization and being taking accountability for her policies and statements.

This picture is not offensive. I am tired of Palin always playing the morally superior victim card whenever she is criticized. The holier-than-thou comments she is constantly making are driving me crazy! You're a public figure, Sarah... get used to criticism!

Wow, running around making yourself seem like a "victim" every week because somebody mentions the children that YOUR AMBITION thrust into the public light sure screams, "Presidential" to me...

I would hate to be Palin's child or even a relative. She pimps just about anything to stay in the news. And the things this woman says sometimes don't make sense. What is the connection between a Letterman joke and the US Military?
    She is a disgrace!

I fail to believe that the Liberal, part of our media can not do their job without going after the families of our public figures. It would seem that since they are not able to make any inroad with Americans with ideas and answers they must only make fun of their opponents. I as well as others wish we could get passed all of the name calling and stagnant, politics of today's world. We as a country are going to burn if this level of vitriol is not turned down and i believe soon. I wish to have a nation of friends and neighbors not the other party.

Tacky, classless, inappropriate and insulting. Yes, this was the action of yet another "Compassionate and tolerant" LEFT WING DOLT.

"Recently we learned of a malicious desecration of a photo of the Governor and baby Trig that has become an iconic representation of a mother's love for a special needs child,"

Wow! What a sanctimonious and self-serving comment! First of all, putting burke's picture over the baby is not a denigration of the baby since his face is not shown.

Second, maybe if the half-wit had not used the same baby as a stage prop and to further her propaganda during her campaign stops, then media folks would not be using it as propaganda now!

That is what happens when you put your own ambitions FIRST and your children come in a distant second!

What a great " christian family value".

Again, we see that when the left does something disgraceful like this, it barely gets any attention...I'm sure that idiot Bill Mahr thinks its fine too...

I wonder, again, what would happen if this was one of Obama's children...

It's only wrong if the Right does it...

    Shameful...Pathetic...Typical of the left.

  21. The Resistance

I often wonder why there is so much hatred and intolerance on the left. It must be due to the self-hate and self-loathing that is endemic among liberals. I can understand their self-hate and self-loathing, because liberals are nothing, have nothing, stand for nothing and believe in nothing.

Oh how she wails and whines when she receives mud, but how self-righteously she slings it at others.

    I'm lovin' this.

  24. Accountability

First of all...Palin is the one that thrust "Trig" into the public sphere by schlepping him along the campaign trail last year.

Second, doesn't the governor of the largest state in the Union have better things to do than respond to every parody of her and her very public family? And she wants to be President? C'mon...

So, if Sarah's baby was not special needs, this would be ok? I'm not really clear what Sarah's saying. Or is it just another chance to point out that she has a special needs child?

Either way, Ms. Palin has the thinnest skin in politics.
