(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is visiting Alaska National Guard troops in Kosovo, her office said Thursday.

The governor is visiting the 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, an army aviation unit deployed to the area on a peacekeeping mission. "A part of Governor Palin's duties while she is in country is to inspect the troops and ascertain how the experience in Kosovo will better prepare these service members for missions within Alaska and future deployments overseas," her office said in a statement.

Two years ago, Palin visited Alaska National Guard troops in Kuwait and wounded soldiers on a U.S. base in Germany, as well as a border crossing on the Kuwait-Iraq border.

Palin's son Track, who serves in the Army, deployed to Iraq last year.

Why is this news? Oh, I remember now. She just got her passport last year. Being so close to Russia, she never needed one before now.

Joyce Bayliss   June 26th, 2009 1:37 am ET

Thank you Sarah for visiting and caring for our troops that is more than can be said for Obama who is suppose to be their leader. I want you to know that A grateful Country supports you and all the young men and women who have chosen to wear with honor the uniform of the United States of America. My family just buried a young Marine this week who was fighting to keep this country free and we thank you for standing up for our men. Unfortunately we have a President who hates our Country, our flag, Our Constitution and everything these men and women have volunteered to give their life to preserve for all of us. God Bless you Sarah Palin for I know that this is not just a duty to you but an honor. God Bless the U.S.A. I know there will be at least one person who read this before its deleted and God Bless you also.

I agree CNN...let's find out exactly where that line lies...that magic threshold that once we cross it we ALL suddenly wake up and realize that we've gone too far and should be disgusted with ourselves. The learning experience will prove priceless Please please please give us more Sanford stories.

steve in AK   June 26th, 2009 1:34 am ET

Palin is qualified to "ascertain" troops over seas experiences? Based on what, her hockey mom credentials or is it her beauty queen awards?

Give me a break, she is just campaigning for the 2012 presidential election. She is so transparent is it laughable, how can anyone take her seriously.

Ray Collins, Yuma, AZ   June 26th, 2009 1:21 am ET

Surprise!! A governor doing her job.

I guess it is a big deal, after all she may be the only one.

If she's this good as governor maybe we should all be shouting:

RUN, SARAH, RUN!!

Ben Gray   June 26th, 2009 1:19 am ET

I'm surprised she doesn't just stand on the shore. That's the place from which she sees most foreign countries I gather.

Justin   June 26th, 2009 12:58 am ET

Uh-huh. How long till we get the news that she's shopping and using taxpayer dollars to pay for hotel rooms for her daughter?

Palin's attempts to look like a serious, engaged leader are a joke. Don't check under the hood, folks, there's nothing there.

Niel   June 26th, 2009 12:55 am ET

foreign policy and commander-in-chief experience at one shot...............

TRUTH   June 26th, 2009 12:50 am ET

this poor excuse for a lady is a joke worse then the duo that killed the gop bush/cheney GO DEMS

ThinkAboutIt   June 26th, 2009 12:50 am ET

I just can't help but thinking everything this woman does these days is with an eye to her 2012 presidential aspirations. It just nauseates me the way she twists everything she gets near into a story about her and how wonderful she is and how everyone is out to get her.

I remember girls like her in high school; unfortunately for the human race, some people never grow up. And even more unfortunate, some even get elected to governorships.

John from California   June 26th, 2009 12:31 am ET

Sarah should be a good leader and stay over there with her troops, lord knows they need her more than we do.

Jeffrey   June 26th, 2009 12:28 am ET

Can't Governor Palin see Kosovo from her home?

RobertnTexas   June 26th, 2009 12:27 am ET

Can't Palin save the taxpayer's money and see Kosovo from her house in Alaska?

The Closet Republican   June 26th, 2009 12:23 am ET

This is a joke. She's not helping anything in Kosovo. Indeed, officials going on junkets like hers just gum up the works and distract others from their jobs.

This is part of her future presidential campaign, so that she could lay a phony claim of "foreign policy experience" other than the fact that one tiny part of Alaska is close to a tiny part of Russia (as if that makes any difference).

Personal ambition first, country last.

Brandon4Hillary   June 26th, 2009 12:14 am ET

We love you Governor Palin.....

F-Dog   June 26th, 2009 12:07 am ET

The governors typically take care of the day-to-day operations of a state. With all of the Sarah Palin travel coverage, what has she been doing for Alaska?

Tom in CA   June 26th, 2009 12:06 am ET

If we Kosovo some more foreign aid, then maybe they'll keep her!

YOU BETCHA!

Mcnoggin   June 25th, 2009 11:56 pm ET

Obvious stunt. She's trying to beef up her foreign policy credentials before her 2012 bid. Duh.

Claudia in Houson   June 25th, 2009 11:51 pm ET

Palin is building her resume on the blood of the countries finest. Enough said.

Robin in Tampa, FL   June 25th, 2009 11:38 pm ET

Kosovo seems like an odd place to visit if you are trying to bolster your international credentials. The war there ended 10 years ago, so it's now a peaceful place with no much going on there. If she really wants to stand by the troops she should go visit them in Iraq or Afghanistan. I'm sure they are in more need of a moral boost than the guys stationed in Kosovo.

Over It... Move On... Let Go...   June 25th, 2009 11:33 pm ET

This isn't really news that needs to be covered. Let her go back to Alaska and leave national politics to real politicians.

Karen - Missouri   June 25th, 2009 11:30 pm ET

Of all the news stories, why is THIS important to the rest of the country?
Really now...can't you get over Palin? I'm sure there are other governors who also care about their national guard troops overseas. What a ridiculous story...who cares?

Len in Washington   June 25th, 2009 11:29 pm ET

CNN, your infatuation with this person is beyond the pale.

To continue this is only proving the point that your "Journalistic Integrity" has been abandoned in a thinly veiled attempt to raise your ratings. Poor showing on your part.......

Done with CNN   June 25th, 2009 11:27 pm ET

ok... If Palin won't go away or the media quit reporting on her, I'm watching/reading news elsewhere. Anywhere she's not mentioned is a blessing. farewell CNN.

lynn in NM   June 25th, 2009 11:21 pm ET

I think that makes more trips than Obama has deigned to take to support our troops.

gl, Pittsburgh   June 25th, 2009 11:20 pm ET

Why is this news? She is not the President even though she would love to be. She is just media crazy and everybody can see right though her. She is a sick lady that onces to fight with people that is irrelavent. YOU WILL NEVER BE MY PRESIDENT -YU ARE A WEAK EMBARSSMENT TO WOMEN.

cjg   June 25th, 2009 11:19 pm ET

Guess this goes on her resume as foreign experience!

Beth   June 25th, 2009 11:14 pm ET

Let's get passed the gossip, and get to the real news. The economy is in peril. Jobless numbers reported this morning soared.

I think the best way to fix the economy is to give CEO's of businesses and banks hoards of money, ridiculously exorbitant sums of money…just like we are doing now…until we can't afford to buy any products any more because they have all the money. They certainly need it more than we do. 11 Million Dollars in the bank is never enough. Better make it 12, or 15 , if that makes you happy. I can't afford health insurance right now. But, if I was an executive at a banking company, I could afford to buy health insurance for all the people in my city and state.

Eric   June 25th, 2009 11:13 pm ET

Lib here wishing Sarah a save trip. There's plenty of other things to hit her on, this isn't one of them.
