Sanford visiting family in Sullivan's Island

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) – Mark Sanford left the state capital of Columbia this morning and traveled to Sullivan’s Island to visit with his family, the governor’s office said Thursday.

Sanford’s spokesman also said the governor is calling state legislators and other state officials by phone.

Sanford’s wife Jenny has been at the family’s beach house on Sullivan’s Island since last week along with the couple’s four children.

The South Carolina governor returned from Argentina on Wednesday and admitted to an extramarital affair at an emotional press conference in the state capitol. Jenny Sanford said yesterday she asked her husband to leave two weeks ago for “a trial separation.” After the press conference, Sanford said in a statement that “Mark has earned a chance to resurrect our marriage.”

Why are there 6 stories on this ticker about Sanford and NONE about the cap and trade bill being put on the House Floor TOMORROW!!!! This is the biggest tax increase in HISTORY being snuck in the back door.

CNN needs to be held accountable for this negligence in reporting on our "current" government.

Leave his family (and him, to the extent he's dealing with this private issue) alone for crying out loud. Enough. Honestly, if you want to destroy your ability to spoon feed the American public this kind of tabloid nonsense as though it's real "news" and has anythign to do with the governance of this country, then you'd best back off or you'll forever cross the line.

Hey Sniffit, where were you when the Republican party spent millions of tax payer's money investigating and then impeaching President Clinton over this kind of thig?

To the liberals trying to say that Sanford should be impeached because Clinton was impeached…these are two completely separate situations. Clinton lied under oath to Congress about the matter. Lying to Congress is a crime. When the President commits a crime, he gets impeached.

Exactly...very well said Matt. Now if Sanford lied to congress about , oh I don't know say WMD, or using torure, or wire tapping...then you could start the impeachment process

. . . I remember the GOP's rage at Clinton! Impeaching a president because he lied about an affair! Good grief. . . .

In addition to Clinton, I also remember Ted Kennedy causing the death of a young woman (and now he's the "Lion of the Senate" ). And John Kennedy's numerous affairs. And Franklin Roosevelt's, and Jesse Jackson's child out of wedlock. And Eliot Spitzer, Kwame Kilpatrick, James McGreevey, Antonio Villaraigosa, Gavin Newsom, Gary Condit, Gary Hart, as well as Barney Frank's prostitution service from his residence (and plenty on the other side, as well).

"Good grief" . . . don't YOU be such a hypocrite . . . but hey - have fun trying to politicize this to YOUR advantage this time. But just remember, what goes around comes around.

  7. Really?

Sanford needs to resign for the purpose of taking care of his family. That would be an example of putting his priorities in order.

I still want to know if Ensign spent taxpayers money for his girlfriend to double her salary, her husband to be paid and her son to be paid.

Why has THIS one gotten a free ride in the news?

ENSIGN SHOULD RETIRE FROM THE SENATE IMMEDIATELY.

I hope he spares his family, and the rest of us, all of the days of media discussions of what he did and just do the right thing (apparently for a change) and resign.

So he sneaks out of town one week, and now he's enjoying a vacation at the beach.

Through the bum out, South Carolina, and while you are at it get rid of the Confederate Army flag.

I'm not a Republican, but these are just people. Like many marriages, theirs is going through the ringer. This poor lady and those kids have to go through this. I hope it works out for this family. This is a thoughtless mess this guy has gotten them all into. Terrible.
