Conyers' office reacts to reports of wife's guilty plea

(CNN) – The office of Democratic Rep. John Conyers released a statement Friday following reports the powerful congressman's wife, Detroit City Council member Monica Conyers, had pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit bribery.

"This has been a trying time for the Conyers family and, with hope and prayer, they will make it through this as a family," said a Conyers spokesman. "Public officials must expect to be held to the highest ethical and legal standards. With this in mind, Mr. Conyers wants to work towards helping his family and city recover from this serious matter."

Doesn't surprise me at all. They need to check her husband out also. I agree that if Sen Conyers really wants to make amends he should
back the push to investage ACORN and where all out tax payers money is going within this organization. A survey/poll needs to be
run in D.C. to see how many of out great politicians (both sides) are
above the board and have morals. Bet the percentage would be
    quite low.....

To No Obama = No Hillary:

The reason why Spitzer stepped down is because he was caught in a federal investigation into illeagle prostitution. Craig was criminal also, lewd contact.

Clinton, Ensign, and Sanford cheated on their wives with non-hookers (though the wives might think differently), and shouldn't resign.

It is a big difference. This is a criminal issue with the Conyers family, not a moral one.

Citizen Jane asked "Instead of always faulting bad behavior on a particular organization or party affliation, shouldn't we actually fault the individual?"

    YES. ABSOLUTELY.

It's also wrong to assume that every liberal is pro-choice, tax-and-spend, etc?

It's also wrong to assume that every conservative is bible thumping, war mongering, etc?

Yet all we see is these broad-brush paintings from EVERYONE.

@ Christian, who said "The media only screams party affiliation when a Republican does something corrupt."

Right...like Fox News...the "fair and balanced" news station, which puts a "(D)" next to scandalized Republicans' names?

They did it with Sanford for his press conference and with Craig and Foley during their scandals. It's documented. It's also easily proven that CNN fails to identify party affiliation when talking about members of both parties all the time...I think they just assume we know already.

All I can say is that I came to the conclusion over three years ago, that neither of the two major parties are representing the people. we do need change but after 52 years of the lies, the crimes, the greed of our elected representitives, I have had it.
Who will emerge with the leadership skills to restore this country to the principles of the US Constitution?

I am an independent liberal who HATES this kind of corruption. Neither political party, nor race, nor gender trump this shameless behavior. This woman is just another amoral opportunist who is helping with the long, slow, painful death of a once-great American city.

Please explain how ACORN is involved in the issue? Mrs. Conyer did not take money from ACORN nor is the Federal Government investigating ACORN and Mrs. Coryer.

Some of you people have allowed the Repub spend masters to enbrance their lies – ACORN is not as relevant

Too bad the administration couldn't intercede and fire the prosecutor, like it did with that inspector general that got a little too close while investigating misuse of government funds by one of Obama's friends. That would have saved Conyers a lot of grief.
No worries though. The folks in Detroit will send them all right back to their old offices, as soon as the fog lifts.
