(CNN) – The office of Democratic Rep. John Conyers released a statement Friday following reports the powerful congressman's wife, Detroit City Council member Monica Conyers, had pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit bribery.
"This has been a trying time for the Conyers family and, with hope and prayer, they will make it through this as a family," said a Conyers spokesman. "Public officials must expect to be held to the highest ethical and legal standards. With this in mind, Mr. Conyers wants to work towards helping his family and city recover from this serious matter."

Please. Unless you live in the Metro-Detroit area you have no idea how righteous the sinful can act in making grandstanding points while swimming deep in the slime of theft, bribery and cupidity. Monica Conyers is the sort of politician you wish to avoid like the plague as hypocrisy is usually their only stock in trade. Substantive acts or credible force wherein the civic responsibility is the guidepost does not appeal to their distorted sense of self importance wrapped in righteous indignation when called to account.

ACORN has been completely investigated by the Republicans and sadly (for them) no actual connection has been made, and it has resulted in the discovery that ACORN was duped by some of their volunteers. Now, if you want to talk about crimes, check out the young man, Nathan Sproul, who ran the organization to gather Republican votes. He was telling people on the sidewalk that signing the sheet would help fight child abuse. He faked many, many signatures. He is currently UNDER INDICTMENT and will be prosecuted for fraud! Clean the political dog crap out of your own back yard before you point an outraged, shaking-with-rage finger at someone else. Go ahead. Google Nathan Sproul. There is no innuendo. There are no conspiracies. There is no vague connection. This kid violated the law for the Republicans, and is going to jail. End of story.

As opposed to all the other scandals going on around the country, this might be the only one that will add MORE stability to an area. Conyers was menace and destabilizing force in Michigan, as well as a flagrant racist and, frankly, just an idiot. Her loss is everybody's gain.
Also, all of you calling for investigations of ACORN really need to do a little more research on the issue instead of eating up Republican talking points like candy.

I don't think the politicians say they want to "Go to Washington and clean it up". I think they say "I want to go to Washington to clean up.
I see so many comments about the corruption of Democrats or the corruption of Republicans. They are all politicians, and that means they are corrupt. An honest office holder cannot survive in our political system. He either becomes a crook like the rest of them or it is arranged for him not to win reelection.
The lack of honesty from politicians is disgusting. How can so many Dems, Repubs, and the occasional independents be so bereft of the very values that are needed to set policy for our country? Instead of reaping the harsher penalties they deserve for betraying the public trust, they're making laws and policy to keep their pensions and health benefits even when the bums are thrown out.
A corrupt politician? Shocking! Can we just go straight to the executions on all these dirty politicians? We the people should DEMAND more of our elected representatives and when we start hanging a couple corrupt senators, congressmen, governors, or school board directors, I really think they'll think twice before they screw us.

So the Dems are outraged over Palins comments about Kerry's face, and the Gop is commenting about crooked Dems. These people need to get there brains in gear and work on their own party. There is enough crookedness, adultery, vote selling and laisons in public restrooms and parks to go around.

They were always corrupt. I don't know why u thought the were not. The difference is when it is a Republican, they are thrown out. When it is a Democrat they stay in power.
