Obama's approval rating remains steady, poll says

WASHINGTON (CNN) – A new national poll indicates that President Barack Obama's approval rating among Americans remains steady.

Sixty-one percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday say they approve of how Obama's handling his duties as president. Thirty-seven percent disapprove.

The 61 percent approval rating is down one point from May and down six points from February.

"Since March, Obama's approval rating has gone down one percentage point each month in CNN polls," notes CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "In March it was 64 percent; in April it was 63 percent. Last month his approval rating stood at 62 percent and now it is at 61 percent."

The poll suggests when it comes to opinions of Obama, gender and generation gaps continue.

Sixty-seven percent of women questioned in the survey approve of how Obama's handling his job as president. That number drops to 54 percent among men. Two-thirds of people under 50 years old questioned in the poll approve of the president's handling of his duties. That number drops to 54 percent among people over 50 years of age.

"We saw these same patterns in the exit polls on election night," Holland says. "It looks like the groups who voted heavily for Obama are sticking with him, but the groups in which his vote was lower are starting to drift."

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted Friday through Sunday, with 1,026 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

He is holding steading becasue most American people are very tried of the Repubicans party. Until they get their act together, his polls will stay in the 60 percent. The Repubicans have done nothing but complain since this President been in office. If the Repubicans want his number to drop, they need to more than just complain about what the President is doing. Republicans Party have no plans or ideas to get American people out of the mess they created. So you haters poster on move at the way so we can move this country foward.

Obama Victim: No one has ever said you can't say "Christmas". Obama is not a Muslim, but rather a Constitutional scholar who has read and understands the First Amendment, the first clause of which states:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; "

By the government staying out of religion, we all have the freedom to worship (or not) as we please.

Please go live in a countrywhere your religion is truly oppressed (say, Myanmar) before you spout off again.

He's going down. Things are getting worse and he's being exposed as an socialist radical. If you thought the last election was intense, wait until 2012!

Of course it remains steady. We aren't the wacko's from the radical right. We are calm and level headed, not erratic and nuts.

Seebofubar: Obama isn't the problem here; it's the obstructionist party of NO (aka, the GOP) that has no ideas, only a sore-loser attitude towards the current Administration.

The GOP has consistently put party first – to the great detriment of our country.

Yeah. We can't say Christmas anymore. We are all required to be Muslims. I am wearing a burqa right now! We are so oppressed in this country. It is 100% identical to both Iran, North Korea, and the Soviet Union!

It is so funny that the GOP that post on here is hypocrites. They are all for the polls when the President numbers slips, but hate the polls when his number go back up. HYPOCRITES AT THEIR BEST!

Given the total economic and international mess handed over to this President he is doing a fine job and working harder than any president in my memory. I am confident that we as a nation will prevail in the long run.

The key will be patience and working together, there will always be those that hate the President on a personal level and he will never change thier minds.

He has proven he does indeed have the nations best interest at heart in spite of those who would love to see him and our great nation fail.

The American people have your back Mr President !

I voted for Obama as well.

    Where is the transparency?

Where is the ability for people to read bills before they are passed?

    Where is the 'Fiscal Responsibility'?

I'm tired of being let down. In 2010 I'm doing everything I can to get new Congressmen, and in 2012, a new President.

America can't afford Obama much longer.

Did the headline writer even read the contents of the article...?
Hey CNN, us rubes out here are not as stupid as you conceited elitist liberals believe! And I don't need you to decipher the results of a survey.
Maybe, to give you the benefit of the doubt, "steady" to you means steadily declining.
What a crock. Day in and day out. Highly entertaining though.

This woman doesn't approve of him. I suspect that far fewer women will approve as his spending spree continues. When costs start rising, jobs become harder to find, and feeding their families becomes more difficult, more people will awaken. Let's face it; the man, while personable and articulate is laboring under the arrogant and false assumption that because so many people like him personally, his inexperience and general clueless won't matter.

The man is already starting to wear off on me and I hope the public comes to their senses. He's nothing different then we just had, some wreck less spending at the cost of the taxpayer. Obama's Cap and Tax ops I mean Cap and Trade will destroy an already weakened economy and he has already doubled the deficit as well. Get ready for Hyperinflation unlike we have ever seen before.

"What gives the federal government the right to take the money I earn and give it to someone else? pretty simple question"

The Constitution, Article I, Section 2, Section 8, and Section 9; and the Sixteenth Amendment.

I wonder if he'll get voted off, or will he become the next American Idol?
Alot of the worst leaders of the world were popular? He is handsome, charismatic and as long as the teleprompter is rolling, he sounds semi-intelligent. I can't help but think about the HULU commercial, sadly that is the problem with America. Our brains are turning to goo and we have little or no substance. We will believe just about anything Big Brother says. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, I am refering to the Orwell book not the reality (LOL) TV show.

He is doing great for me. The guy came in when everything went upside down. He remain a steady leader. For those who hated him will continue hating him because they dont want him to succeed. If bush could be back in the white house some people would be happy. They dont care if bush is failing, they would be happy. I hope the prez succeeds . He is going to make mistakes. The gop wants him to run the way they want because they think no one is better than the GOP. Nothing the prez say or do will be good enough. They will try to bring him down. The party of, we cant do that, but never have an idea. they make me laugh.....
