WASHINGTON (CNN) – A new multi-million national television campaign launches this week that is designed to pressure Congress to enact healthcare reform, organizers tell CNN.

Families USA and The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) are paying to air three new 30-second ads in the coming weeks on CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC. Dave Lemmon, a spokesman for Families USA, described the ad buy as a “multi-million, multi-week” effort to convince lawmakers to listen to President Obama’s call to Congress to deliver a healthcare reform bill to his desk by October.

In the first six months of this year, more than $22 million has been spent on healthcare reform commercials, according to an analysis conducted by Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on political television advertising.

The commercials feature people discussing how the rising cost of healthcare has affected them personally. Public polling shows that healthcare reform is a major concern for Americans.

"More and more families are being priced out of the health care they used to take for granted,” said Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA. “This ad campaign, involving real people, shows that there will be a huge cost to America's families and businesses if we fail to achieve meaningful health care reform this year."

The CMAG analysis estimates that supporters of President Obama's approach to health care reform are outspending opponents on the air by a margin of greater than 2-to-1 in 2009. Families USA and PhRMA are considered supporters of Obama’s call for healthcare reform.

Want to reduce the cost of healthcare?

TORT REFORM?

Will never happen because the DEMS are in bed with the ambulance chasing lawyers!!

When has any big govt spending ever solve a problem? Look to Canada & Great Britain for that answer.

For you Dumocrats the answer is NEVER!!

CHAT   June 30th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

CNN: We need more pro and con INFORMATION for the HEALTHCARE REFORM. I don't think we need to rush before we have a thorough study of it. Look at how CONGRESS passed the STIMULAS BILL. RUSH AND PROVED TO GET ONLY MINOR EFFECTS. We should learn a lesson from it.

Independent Again   June 30th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

All this while for profit clinics in Canada are exploding because of the universal health care system is inadequate and inefficient to take care of the needs of its citizen.

Canada and Great Britain are trying to run away fr socialize medicine while US is running towards.

You think health care is bad now, wait until it is free!!

-47 million w/o healthcare in this country? REally?
-Subtract the 12-20 million illegals equals
-35 million acutal US citizen w/o healthcare
-Half which r young can afford to buy private healthcare but choose to instead buy, iPods, BMWs, & other lavish gagets.
-Which brings us to approx. 17.5 million that needs healthcare.

Why not just take care of them?

All these poor stupid people following the obama remond me of the millions I can remember gathered and cheering on Herr Hitler. We all know how that great savior worked out. Then there was Joseph Stalin and his followers, that didn't serve the followers so well either, and lets not forget Benito Mousselini, Hiro Hito, Fidel Castroand now the screeming, teenyboppers and people with tingly feelings up their legs in the presence of "him" give us obama. you will no doubt live to regret the day.Make no mistake, you deserve what is coming your way...LOL

Obama's plans are the ultimate Ponzi scheme. He should end up the same as Madoff.

And we will end up like Madoff's victims. Beaten and bruised with no way to support ourselves or our families.

You're kidding right! You would rather pay your insurance company for service that will likely not be available when you need it. Are those real life stories, not connecting with you people.

Thanks God I'm Canadian! Give me higher taxes any day.

It is important to keep this front and center. I think that Pres. Obama's approach of presenting his plan to the American public was a wise move. You want people to understand what is being proposed so that they can make an informed decision, and avoid being misinformed by talking heads, and other folks idea of what THEY think the plan entails and offers.
=====================================================

I agree with making an informed decision. But how can that be done, when "Vote Present" Obama is hell bent on silencing his opposition?

Jeanne Montgomery   June 30th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

I wonder if some of you people ever listen to the president! He wants a public option. Do you know what an option is? If you like your healthcare you keep it . This option is for people who don't have insurance or people who don't like their insurance. Face it if we leave it to the Republicans we will never have it because they don't care.
I am so thankful I left the Republican Party. They are an embarrasment.

To mkn about Tricare. I work in a 5 doctor clinic, and we are not able to accept Tricare because of the excessive red tape and poor reimbursements. If everybody has Tricare or a program like it, go find yourself another doctor. Our docs work long, hard hours, but they can't work for less than their expenses add up to. Currently, we limit Medicare, avoid Medicaid and the Chips program where possible, and refuse to see Tricare at all. Our Indigent care from the ER is all the free work we can handle as is. People who think government health insurance is free or works great don't understand that somebody else is paying for it.

Give the people what they want   June 30th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Have to put your facts in check TCM, but Obama's numbers are better than Sanford. You might want to invest in an internet server or a newspaper. The GOP cannot do anything about it because this healthcare bill is gonna get passed. Also those who think this is socialized, might want to stop listening to Hannity, Rush, and Newt, because that is all they keep shoving down American throats since they have nothing else to defend their principles. There is nothing SOCIALiZED about this healthcare bill. That is the tactic used by the Republicans who don't like Obama. All the man is doing is trying to do is get America back on its feet so we can be a great country.

renea   June 30th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

We need this, for all those that are against it maybe its because you already have healthcare so dont talk down it for the ones who dont have insurance, with fear that its a governoment takeover or that the government is going to come between you and your doctor but the truth is that if a person is really sick and need to be seen by a doctor some clincs or doctors will not want to see you and if they do you get treated different so any health insurance government run or whatever will help to me.

history repeats   June 30th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Al Smith

yea right. everybody gets treated and then gets an enourmous bill they cant pay!! it ruins their credit, which prevents them from getting a home or a car!! great american way right? its ok for insurance companies to tell you what doctors you can see but its not ok for gov insurance too?? when health insurance for profit is the way then the way is corrupt. the monetary system is backwards. the worlds wealth is completely disproportionate. 1 in 6 people are dying of starvation in the world today. but in america people are dying from obesity!! for people to say "everyone can have insurance if they PAY" is a modern day "let them eat cake"!!!!

JB   June 30th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Somehow this administration believes it is OK to start building a house, without architectual plans. That is what they are doing. Obama is saying we have to pass this bill immediately because. . . . . wait for it. . . . . .ITS A CRISIS. And yet, there are no plans. What are we supposed to pass? Where are the specifics? This is madness. If anyone watched the ABC special, you would know this is out of control. He couldn't answer specifics, BECAUSE THERE ARE NONE.

Here's a clue – if you think it's going to look anything REMOTELY like what congress gets, you're sadly mistaken and terribly misled.

Bill in California   June 30th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

WHAT'S AMAZING TO ME is that the people who need help from the rest of the taxpayers to get health care can afford MILLIONS in advertising, even outspending those nasty, mean and greedy insurance giants. Makes one wonder WHO IS FOOTING THE BILL and WHY?

Al Smith   June 30th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

Two Words : Socialized Medicine

This is a horrible idea, private sectors are going to lose millions of dollars, and the quality of care is going to deteriorate at a rapid pace. We don't owe anybody anything!

Our government is already putting their hands into the auto industry and telling us how to allocate energy....I don't want them telling me who I can and can not see for a doctor or controlling when I get to see a doctor.

FYI: this is America and we treat EVERYONE!!! You get treated no matter if you have insurance or not. If it comes down to paying for it, purchase insurance like everyone else!

Mike   June 30th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

I pay for my own health insurance. Six months ago I was diagnosed with cancer. Two months later my health insuranced raised my monthly payments by $110. It's difficult for me to afford my treatments so as it is. Someones making a lot of money and it's costing people their lives. If nothing to reform health care, this is going to be a regular occurrance if it isn't already.

G   June 30th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Stop wasting money on ads and lets debate the pros and cons on news shows. We need more unbiased news shows that look at both sides. The costs are enormous, realistically only can be paid for with tax increases (even on people making less than $250K probably people making less than $100K). Issues of socialization or government sponsored health insurance need to be vigorously debated. There are no good solutions to our health problem and if we are going to undertake the "least bad solutions" then we at least need to have the debates and get most people on board with the decisions....Personally, I'd like to see solutions with the least government involvement as possible, the least taxpayer cost as possible but I'm willing to listen and debate.

johnnie   June 30th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

the cmag, families usa,and phrma, thats it cnn trying to start division, they support the president because it is time to address this problem.they are outspending 2 to 1 because it is going to pass, and their is nothing going to stop it.the president has huge support ,the american people,it makes me laugh how the gop thinks their going to keep their pockets stuffed,no more ,every american needs a chance to obtain health, this is a bullitt train on the track to succeed,we are ready for this battle to win. the president will have a gold medal for his urgency to take of this nigthmare, we will look back one day and say that, the president captured the moment for health care.god bless america and our president

CNN would you please shed some light on the very effective FEDERALLY OPERATED healthcare plan known to everyone as TRICARE.
I keep hearing about how a federally sponsored plan will do so many awful things to people I wonder why TRICARE is never mentioned as an example of a very effective plan that works quite well.

For our sake, I hope people don't listen to the old "do you want govt making your decisions crap.....

It never was the government (a non-profit organization) making your decisions, the Republicans, like everything else they smear painted it that way.

You as an individual would have an option to chose the government healthcare, or if you chose so, buy your own from an insurance company, and then let the insurance (a for profit organization) make your decisions.

Henry Miller   June 30th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

Mississippi Mike   June 30th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

No matter how much you advertise this pile of crap, it's still a pile of crap. Don't take away my current health care and replace it with Medicare and much higher taxes. That just doesn't make sense.

George   June 30th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

The health care reforms the Obama administration are espousing are tantemount to a death sentence for my wife and millions of others in this country with managable congenitile diseases. At only 30 years old, her monthly Cystic Fibrosis medications, which allow her to lead a seemingly normal life, would be considered too expensive under his plan. At thousands of dollars a month, we would not be able to pay for them out of pocket.
There are many others, elderly and otherwise, that would be thrown into the same sinking ship under our president's plan.
Good job fixing the system.

Jeanne   June 30th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

I am glad. It is about time the struggling families have a say in the health care plan. There are too many insurance , doctor and hospital groups out there spending fortunes. Health care costs are out of control and we need change.

Randolph Carter   June 30th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

We should just contract healthcare out to Halliburton. They'll do an awesome job. Just like they did on that very expensive oil pipeline in Iraq. What oil pipeline you say? Exactly. Have a nice day!
