Details regarding Gov. Mark Sanford’s book deal are expected to be revealed later this week.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) - Prior to revelations of an extramarital affair that effectively brought an end to his political career, Mark Sanford was preparing to publish a book outlining his policy beliefs, his publisher told CNN Wednesday.

Sentinel, a conservative imprint of Penguin Group, has included a book by Sanford entitled "Within Our Means" in their Spring 2010 catalogue, the proofs of which have already been sent to the printers. It was described by the publisher as "a manifesto about fiscal conservatism - why the government needs to spend less and fix the deficit ASAP."

That was before Sanford's life changed forever. Sentinel associate publisher Will Weisser told CNN Wednesday that the company will "most likely" make an announcement about the book's fate later this week.

Weisser would not elaborate on whether that meant Sanford would write a new book about the scandal, or if it simply meant the book deal has been scrapped altogether.

"We'll announce a decision about what's going to happen about the book," he said. "So it could be anything."

Sanford's office had no comment.

I think they will change the title to:

"Blowing off Steam - a Republican Guide to Offshore Drilling" by Mark Sanford

early reviews suggest that Jon Ensign and David Vitter are giving it two thumbs up.

Sanford had no problem spending government money to see his mistress or maybe he's suggesting if the government would spend less the money would not have been available for him to fly to Argentina.

Jokes aside, I would be interested to hear his economic policies... like, how DOES one actually crawl out of the red? I mean, South Carolinians are already paying income tax, sales tax, luxury tax, property tax, and other usage-based taxes, like car taxes; there is a tourism tax... yet SC is still broke. How does one turn a huge deficit and 12% unemployment into black ink? Inquiring minds want to know! SC has been in the hole a long time, long before the stimulus money fiasco. The man only has 18 months left in his term and he still hasn't really solved any fiscal problems. Maybe he thought he would hit the Powerball Lottery.

All his conservative cronies can buy his book to contribute to his cause and not have to worry about political contribution limitations. He's going to need all his can scrape together after his wife and children take him to the cleaners as they should.

He seems to have a problem with telling the truth lately so is this book going to be found in the fiction section? Or will it tell us how see the world and screw the South Carolina tax payers? That one might be found in the travel section of your favorite book store.

    And we care why?

This is getting weird CNN. Stop the nonsense now. No one cares about Mark Sanford and his stupid book deal, that in my opinion he's already promoting. He's not going to ever be president, or even hold a government office again, so who cares?

It floors me how people who don’t like the government and has such disdain for the people, are the first in line to lead the government. And then, they run it in the ground. Let me spell it out for you. ANYONE who breaks the law and or government rules should NOT have an office. Send Sanford home, or back to Argentina for all I care. This time, make sure it’s on his own dime.

And he can forget about me EVER giving him a red cent for that rag of a book he's writing. He should be writing his apologies to his wife and four kids, and then step away from the cameras.

There are so many real writers waiting for a break to publish original and intelligent work...may be its time publishers are less greedy and more intelligent in deciding how and who they offer book deals to. If Sanford's career has "effectively brought an end to his political career", then why is Barney Frank still Chair of the House Financial Services Committee? The guy had a gay prostitution ring run out of his townhouse on Capitol Hill years ago, and more recently was defending his ex-gay-lover Herb Moses, whose programs at Fannie Mae are responsible for packing high risk loans into bank vehicles that effectively brought down the international financial industry and is largely responsible for today's economic disaster – and yet Frank spent years shutting down all attempts to regularly his ex-gay-lover's work at Fannie Mae. Yet FRANK is still in office. How is Sanford's political career "effectively" at "an end"?

I admire Gov Sanford for being honest if not anything else but putting his wife of 20years out to pasture is another thing. He should just leave her sorry – He seems to not be in love with her. Let Mrs Sanford have her life now!!

Here's a heads-up for the publishing company. Better make it a cheap book to purchase, otherwise it's going to set on the shelves a long time. Also, make the print big, and the sentences few per page., for those who do decide to purchase the book. I doubt anyone with a high school education will want to waste their time with it, your best chances for sales will come from the people who dropped out of school before reaching the 8th grade.

I'm a conservative, and no one is going to read his book and take him seriously. How about no one is just going to read his book, period.

Obama, Biden, Pelosi and Hillary = Prudent, Intelligent, Wise and Nice People = America is Safe.

Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld = Criminals, Warmongers, Liars, Low I.Q., Jerks = Ruined America.

so much for you Sanford defenders saying it's a 'private matter between him and his family'. Ain't private if the dude's writing a book about it.

He's one sick puppy. I hope his book causes financial ruin to his publisher. They'd deserve it.

    Mr Sanford,

You are a despicable man. But a typical politician in America today.

Can you imagine, the book would be a Harlequin romance novel mash with 'I am morally and fiscally superior' to everybody – Gah!

I'd rather re-grout the shower than read one sentence of this book.

How about a manifesto on a conservative's view of the "sanctity of marriage"? With forwards by Vitter, Gingrich, Craig, Ensign, Giuliani, etc., etc....

Who cares about this book deal? I have never seen as much a fraud, liar, and a hypocrite who claimed his morals are better than anyone else
married to a woman who thinks like he does and does not even have the courage to admit that his marriage is over and abandons both his unfeeling wife and a woman he loves in Buenos Aires. An absolute coward who belongs in a garbage can!

I'm amazed how many Repugs throw in totally unrelated topics to try to justify another Repug's indiscresions. Sanford should turn Democrat because his actions are those of a Democrat? How about the cheating actions of the Repugs are finally being brought out into the open and not covered up!!! Repugs have l-o-n-g been involved in sleezy behavior. They've had a better record of cover-ups.

Mr. Sanford should be READING instead of writing books at this point. May I suggest "NOT JUST FRIENDS" by Shirley P. Glass. It helped my marriage considerably.
