COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) - Prior to revelations of an extramarital affair that effectively brought an end to his political career, Mark Sanford was preparing to publish a book outlining his policy beliefs, his publisher told CNN Wednesday.
Sentinel, a conservative imprint of Penguin Group, has included a book by Sanford entitled "Within Our Means" in their Spring 2010 catalogue, the proofs of which have already been sent to the printers. It was described by the publisher as "a manifesto about fiscal conservatism - why the government needs to spend less and fix the deficit ASAP."
That was before Sanford's life changed forever. Sentinel associate publisher Will Weisser told CNN Wednesday that the company will "most likely" make an announcement about the book's fate later this week.
Weisser would not elaborate on whether that meant Sanford would write a new book about the scandal, or if it simply meant the book deal has been scrapped altogether.
"We'll announce a decision about what's going to happen about the book," he said. "So it could be anything."
Sanford's office had no comment.

So Sanford stays has an affair, stays in office and gets a book deal. Spitzer pays for sex, resigns from office and gets blasted on the front page of the Daily News. You've got to admire Sanford for making the best of a situation.

Wow. I really don't get what this guy's doing. Hasn't he done enough to his wife? I mean, he actually said that he was going to try hard to fall back in love with his wife. Unbelievable. I know that the liberals are trying to paint every Republican with the likes of this guy. Just blood thirsty I guess. You guys can be hypocites all you want, but not me. I wish this guy would get out of office. If he wants to try to save his career, he should label himself a liberal, since this type of thing is ok on that side of the tracks.
I saw the headline: "Unfaithful Governor to Write Book" and thought "which one?" But really.... no thanks, Mark. Shut up and go away. Hopefully your children will retain some respect for you.

Every bozo today "writes" a book. Presidents Grant, Roosevelt, Carter actually wrote. this will be nothing more than warmed-over conservative theory excusing them from paying into the society that supports them.
The emails and conversations coming out are just unbelieveable...at some point it almost sounds like he's bragging about his exploits like a 14 year old...or a man going through a mid-life crisis. I feel so sorry for his wife and children to have to live this in the public eye...there is no way this many is trying to mend his marriage. If I were his "soul mate" I would kick him to the curb too...especially with the confession that he's acted inappropriately with other women.....AND governor of state...?!
If Sanford's career has "effectively brought an end to his political career", then why is Barney Frank still Chair of the House Financial Services Committee? The guy had a gay prostitution ring run out of his townhouse on Capitol Hill years ago, and more recently was defending his ex-gay-lover Herb Moses, whose programs at Fannie Mae are responsible for packing high risk loans into bank vehicles that effectively brought down the international financial industry and is largely responsible for today's economic disaster – and yet Frank spent years shutting down all attempts to regularly his ex-gay-lover's work at Fannie Mae. Yet FRANK is still in office. How is Sanford's political career "effectively" at "an end"?

Okay, even I have to admit that is funny!
He does need to step down, but not because he cheated as both parties do that. But because he left his job for 5 days. He has ruined what could have been a very promising career.
I do however give him credit for owning up to his mistakes and taking responsibility.

Politicians have long been playing politics for self wealth and have zero regards for their office. YES he will get his pocket full from americans who love scandal and sex.
The only cheater I am willing to forgive is Eliot Spitzer (of course I'm not married to him) – he was energetic, driven, strong and very smart!
Strictly speaking as a politician, he is indispensable!
