WASHINGTON (CNN) – On the day the June jobs report showed the U.S. labor market shedding 467,000 jobs, House Republicans released a tongue-in-cheek Web video featuring a bloodhound named "Ellie Mae" sniffing out stimulus jobs.
Narrated by Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, the clip shows the bloodhound "on the money trail" visiting AIG's headquarters in New York City and projects in Wisconsin and North Carolina supported by federal stimulus dollars. It was modeled on a campaign commercial run by the current Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in his 1994 Kentucky Senate race.
House GOP Leader John Boehner poses with Ellie Mae at the end of the video. "She hasn't found any stimulus jobs yet, and neither have the American people," says Boehner. "It's time to stop runaway spending in Washington and help small businesses get the economy running once again. Hang in there, honey, we'll find 'em."
"This is a lighthearted web video, but the underlying point is no laughing matter," Boehner said in a written statement. "At a time when Americans are looking to Washington for leadership, the trillion-dollar 'stimulus' isn't working. Americans were promised the 'stimulus' would keep the unemployment rate from going above eight percent. It's now it's skyrocketing above nine percent. Where are the jobs?"
Nadeam Elshami, spokesman for Speaker Nancy Pelosi, wasn't amused by the video. "Looks like the hound couldn't track down any of the police officers, teachers or nurses who are working today because of the Recovery Act or the construction workers working on more than 1,900 highway projects already under way across the country."
Elshami also said the stimulus law still needed time to show results, and slammed the GOP: "Betting against the American economy is another fairly depressing political strategy from the House Republican Conference."

How about an idea of how to "get those small business going"? Still haven't heard anything from the GOP other then "cut taxes on the rich" and "deregulate", which has PROVEN itself not to work.

I'm curious to know that if the GOP alternative of giving more tax breaks to big business would have created any new jobs. I think not. I believe that if we took the GOP approach to the economic downturn, we would be suffering way more than we are. Bonehead and his GOP colleagues can criticize all they want, but when you can't provide solutions, i don't see how you can comment on the current situation. The stimulus so far has SAVED jobs. The creation of new jobs is in the process and it's not going to happen over night as the GOP expects it to do.

It is frustrating to see Obama on the TV saying all the right things and then pushing policies that adversely affect jobs, incomes and business growth. It shouldn't be up to the other party to call him out. CNN and others should do some investigative reporting and find out what's going on.
We should not see job losses stop for another six months. By 12 months, we should be seeing net gains in employment. That was the projection. Seems like this is much ado about nothing. Sure, we'd like to see the damage done by the financial crisis turn around overnight, but no reasonable person ever said it would turn around. Many people think the government did not spend enough. The republicans think we shouldn't have had any stimulus plan at all. Under McCain, 15% unemployment would be just part of the market taking care of excess employment.

On the 2-lane highway nearest to my home, we now have 2-foot square signs every 2 tenths of a mile telling you that you've gone another 2 tenths of a mile.
In both directions! In addition to the mile markers that were already there!
I cannot even begin to expound on how much my life has been edified by this expenditure of tax dollars. And neither can the workers... after all, it was a 2-week job for them.

Well first of all... never in the history of the US has unemployment went down during a recession. In fact, it often times takes up to 16 months to stop shedding jobs even after it has recovered. This is FACT! Its just the way recessions work.
And second of all... what if the public was well aware of the actual evidence of these jobs that have been created. Would the GOP even acknowledge it? Hell no!

I would be interested in knowing how the unemployment rate is actually tracked. If it is solely based on payroll reports and unemployment benefit claims then it is way skewed! Most of the people I know that have lost jobs have already used up their pittance of unemployment money and are now into all their life savings as there are few jobs offered with substantial competition. The other information I would be interested in knowing is what % of Americas working population is composed of government employees? I read somewhere it was close to 43% with a mean pay of 75,000/yr but couldn't find the facts to back that up. It is interesting though when you start thinking of where the money comes from to fund our government's non-sustainable practices of spend spend spend.

I kept my job because of the Recovery Package here in Florida. Thanks to the last tax reduction bill sponsored by our Great Gov. Charlie Christ.....we lost a lot of tax revenue. Where do these people think that the Police and Fire forces pay comes from. How about the city workers that provide services. These things are NOT FREE. If you want something you have to pay for it.

Clearly the GOP is rooting for failure of the stimulus plan, and Obama's policies in general. Here's the problem: that's the plan that's in place, gang, and Obama is the President whether you like it or not until 1/20/13. So, if you are rooting for the plan to fail, you are rooting for America to fail.
To a very real degree, we all have to believe that the stimulus will work in order for it to have its best and maximum effect. Rooting against it isn't constructive and is fundamentally unpatriotic. If, once it has had a full and fair chance to work and it hasn't, then fine: say you told us so. Score your political points then. But right now we desperately need it to work. Stop the sniping.

I live in Washington DC and about 4 miles from the capitol they are fixing 11th street NW between O and L/Mass. It's really an impressive effort, paid for by the stimulus. If Boehner could have taken his dog for a walk by my house and met some of the people who have jobs because of the stimulus. He could have also driven just up the road to Tyson's Corner where they are putting in a long delayed and disparately needed extension to the Metro system. I drove to Pittsburgh last weekend and saw lots of roads projects in Handcock and Hagerstown MD. This is stupid. I'm not even looking and I'm seeing it all over. Boehner has congressional reports and a staff ready to help him answer his questions if he truly has them, yet he feels the need to feign ignorance. He and the GOP seem to want things to get worse just so they can score political points. Why doesn't the GOP bet on the American worker and the American spirit? Why do they hate America?

The only problem I have with this is, President Obama has only been on the job six months. He said it was going to get worse before it got better. Remember? It didn't take Bush six months to screw this country up completely. Bush took about 7 years to completely run this country into the ground, so it more than likely taake more than 6 months for Obama to turn things around for the better. Republicans still have not come up with a better plan the Obama's. The GOP is spending a lot of money trying to tear down everything Obama is doing. And no, going back to the same old way that lead us to this mess is not going to work. If I was a Republican contributing my hard on dollors to these so called Republicans leaders, I'd be pissed right about now. If the GOP would spend more time being proactive versus reactive, maybe we the American public would actually listen to what you have to say. But, since the old guard still runs the GOP, we will expect more of the same garbage from them. It is going to be scary not to have a checks and balance system in our House or Senate due to at the rate the GOP is going, hardly any seats will be Republican come 2010.
What the republicans seem to "forget" is that 1.3 million jobs were lost during the last year of the Bush administration.
That the majority supported the stimulous package (which was Bush's and Paulsons plan with no oversight allowed).
That mistakes which took eight years to reach full consequences
cannot be resolved overnight.
That spending on the unwarranted, unjustified Iraq war, even
after "mission accomplished" was not included in the deficit
figures so what the amount was will probably never be known.
That lack of regulations, guideance, oversight with the financial,
insurance, drug companies etc gave them the license to rape
the American people, which they did in every respect.
That while they had power there was not a spending bill they did not love, except, of course, those benefiting middle class America.
How they have the nerve to rant and rave, point fingers, distort and
be so hypocritical is beyond me.
When, or will they ever put us and our country first?
I hope Obama's health care plan works as well as his stimulus plan did.

I liked the little stimulus project they did by me the other day. They jack hammered two corners curbs on a residential street and put in new curb corners. Only they did not build a ramp into them for wheel chairs. Two days later they jack hammer the corners again and are out there today doing AGAIN the job they should have done right the first time.

while I don't agree with the theatrics of this, MSNBC has reported today that less than 1% of the stimulus money has reached programs for jobs. We've been had people, someone got bailed out but it wasn't the middle class. Wait until cap and tax takes affect, there won't be any jobs left for the middle class at all.

Looking at some of the other blogs and personal attacks on Representative John Boehner, I have to comment further, wake up American citizens he is on your side if you are against BIG Wasteful Government. People on the left seem to forget that the Democrats had control of the House and Senate for the last two years of the Bush Administration. They controlled passage of most bills that were approved and crushed any bill they were not in favor of. During this period we had Democrats Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Franklin Raines, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid pushing at the beckon call of ACORN organizers for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make sub-prime home loans to people that could not otherwise qualify for them, FREE CREDIT. Mr. Boehner and other Republicans pushed and pushed hard to curb and regulate this aspect of the banking industry as they were aware of the impending DOOM we are now experiencing, to no avail due to the DEMOCRATS. With that said, unemployment would be a lagging indicator in a growing economy but what would it be in a declining economy, hint: Leading indicator?
Nancy obviously has not spoken to Pres Obama, who announced yesterday that the stimulus had "done its job." (Sounds much like "mission accomplished") If the stimulus has done its job, then more time should not be needed for it to work. Obama and the Dems are such liars. -oversaw the near-destruction of the American economy
-totally disregarded the middle class in all decisions
-who tried to block all work to help the economy with "no,no,no"

If Mr. Boehner is having such a hard time finding projects and jobs funded in whole or in part by the administration's economic stimulus program, I invite him to come here to middle-Tennessee. Despite our dim-witted senators' insistence on toeing the Party of No's propaganda line, great things are being done here in the Nashville area thanks to stimulus money.
The stimulus has created jobs, but obviously it hasn't created enough jobs. Know why it hasn't created enough jobs? Because it was made smaller and filled up with tax cuts. Know why? One word: REPUBLICANS. So, the Republicans who demanded a smaller stimulus (or none at all) are now complaining that the stimulus has not created enough jobs. Fascinating.
Of course, too busy getting a tan, to realize that jobs reports are the last, not the first, indicators of an economic upturn. And the GOP plan is ....? That's right – trickle down + plus a comment or two about small business with no details – from the same party that wanted the auto makers to go out of business – throwing millions of people out of work.

Hey CNN! How come you dont mention in this article any of the jobs that were created in his state by the stimulus bill. He even gave a little speech for these newly employed citizens of his state right after the stimulus bill was passed.

President Obama said the spending would turn the economy around. Only 6% has been used. Things are getting worse. I do not blamer Bush or Obama as some hacks do for the economy. I blame all Americans. We are a stupid lot. But, the issue here is Obama is latching onto a crisis and fear mongering to get a huge stock pile of cash to push the Pelosi/Reid agenda.
It is a sad day when this administration starts to make the Bush admin seem honest and thrifty. Obama has expanded the wars. He has expanded faith based funding. He has continued incarcerations. He promised to be transparent and we have not seen as closed an administration as this one. He has tax increases for the middle class on the table and he is pushing for a health care scam that will cost 20-25 million people their current plan simply to cover a small base of 16 million currently uninsured.
What is tragic about all of this is the people who would fall on their sword for Obama are the ones who will be hurt in the end. The final nail in Obamas coffin for me is his controlled media nonsense. It is a play right out of the Bush playbook. Thankfully Helen Thomas called him out on it.

I'm here in middle america and don't see any new jobs. Banks still are not lending cash, we had two people get laid off this week. The only real change I'm seeing is the pennys in my couch cusions.
I understand why some states are not taking the stimulus $$ what happens in a year from now when the cash is gone and the Gov't won't give any more the Teachers and Police, Peloisi is talking about will get laid off and the hiway repairs will stop.

The economy was beginning a downward spiral long before Obama came into office. The worse you can pin on him is that perhaps what he's trying to do to fix things isn't working...yet. What are the Republicans alternative plans? How will they solve it?
They are hoping for failure. But, careful what you wish. First of all, Obama still has the better part of 4 years to turn things around (not counting mid-term Congressional elections, of course). If he succeeds, he's a shoe in for another term. If he fails to do so, surly Republicans are likely to take back the White House. But CAREFUL! This country will be just as impatient if things don't turn around quickly under their watch! And remember, you can't use the "well, we inherited this mess" any longer than you let Obama use it. And you can't complain when the Democrats fight against you every step of the way (though, hopefully they would put country first). Then this cycle of obstructionism and sabotage will continue and our country will continue to spiral down....unless someone on one side or another steps up. Our Scholl district is planning of getting rid of 20 elementary teaching positions even though enrollment will slightly increase next year.
I also drive through three large road construction projects on my way to work. Each brand new this year and none are attributed to the stimulus.
The bill was an incredible waste of time and money that hasn't even been distributed yet.
