From

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) – For the second day in a row, South Carolina GOP chairwoman Karen Floyd suggested the time has come for Mark Sanford to resign.

Floyd issued a statement Thursday after the State Law Enforcement Division concluded that Sanford had not misused public funds while visiting his mistress over the last year.

"I have confidence in the findings of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division," Floyd said. "But the fact remains that there is clearly a growing view that the time may have come for Governor Sanford to remove himself and his family from the limelight, so that he can devote his efforts full-time to repairing the damage in his personal life."

Drop your Sanford romance novel. People don't want him to resign over his "affairs", they want him to resign for lying and DERELICTION OF DUTY for leaving his post without anyone knowing his whereabouts. It's simple-minded idiots like you that keep voting for the Sanfords, and Bushes, and Palins, and their likes. It's the Neo-cons that are destroying our country.

If you really wanted to punish Sanford for his infidelity, then you should make him watch the 20,000 hours of Michael Jackson being shown by msnbc, cnn, and fox news shows. After that is completed sentence him to review the old Nicole Smith daily news shows about her death. If he survived all of that, then he would surely swear off Argentina forever.

Joe in CA   July 2nd, 2009 5:14 pm ET

This must have been one extensive review to have it completed in TWO days. Boy those Republicans sure know how to speed things up. Too bad it wasn't that speeding getting us OUT of IRAQ under Bush / Cheney and 4,000 plus US lives woudl have been saved, not to m netion BILLIONS of $$ and the WORLD economy wouldn't be in the toilet.

Steve, Columbia SC   July 2nd, 2009 5:12 pm ET

Several days ago, I was willing to give the governor a chance...........but he has indecently exposed himself even more, to the point of serious embarassment to himself and the state of South Carolina.

Time for him to resign.

Ron from Mo.   July 2nd, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Good Grief: If everyone that cheated or lied or ran around on their spouses while using state money to do so had to resign, then we would'nt have anymore typical rightwing base republicans left. We need them. Laughs are hard to find anymore.

WOW A REPUBLICAN????   July 2nd, 2009 5:04 pm ET

Well Mark And Jenny Sanford sure are making it TOUGH to rebuild The Republican Party. At this point maybe Jenny and Mark deserve each otheer, but the nice people of South Carolina sure don't need this. Where are the leaders of this state?? Could it be some one knows too much on the elected officials!

They smile in your face, all the time they wanna take your place, those backstabbers.

Former Republican firmly supporting Obama   July 2nd, 2009 4:57 pm ET

Sanford must go. If Republicans ever hope to gain credibility, then they must begin to hold their members accountable. As long as Sanford parades as governor, he will be a constant reminder of the GOP hypocrisy, self-righteousness, and the "do as I say, not as I do" philosophy.

Joe in Austin   July 2nd, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Well then impeach him you feckless boob!

tigerakabj   July 2nd, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Or, to the user Sick-n-tired, they did some good white washing. Just a guess.

What's bad is that it makes them look even worse in trying to cover-up for Sanford. Oh well.

But hey, there's always the Democrat equivalent of folks keeping Obama's birth certificate from public view. There's that liberal conspiracy again. You know how they do. (....just thought I'd pre-empt the Fox News crowd before their ignorant posts pile up).

Gov. Sanford must be officially relieved of his duties immediately and without any possibility of receiving his retirement benefits!!!! My opinion has little to do with the infidelity issue ,(although the emotional cruelity he has put his wife and children through is disgusting), as it does with his dereliction of duty!! Doesn't anyone out there care that he wasn't doing his job for several days, and that he apparently didn't care what happened in his absence!! Thankfully, there were no serious decisions to be made in his absence, as no one in his administration knew where he was-If you or I didn't show up for our very important job and never called in with a reason or told someone of our whereabouts, we'd BE FIRED–NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!!!! When are WE going to insist that some of these arrogant no-goods take responsibility for their actions!!???!!

Nothing 'Stand Up' about John Ensign   July 2nd, 2009 4:36 pm ET

Sanford is a shameless hypocrite who will have to be forced out.

Btw, speaking of shameless politicians like Sanford, Craig and Vitter who need to be forced out of office, Senator John Ensign (R-NV) should be removed from office for the way he doubled his mistress’s salary during his affair with her, according to federal election documents, and then fired her when the affair ended. There is nothing stand up about him, and a person like that should not have the power of a United States Senator or be a holder of any other office that allows him to make decisions about how we allocate our country’s resources.

david   July 2nd, 2009 4:34 pm ET

mark sanford should stay in office. he is almost single handedly bringing down the GOP and ensuring future election victories for anyone but a GOP candidate!

Gene   July 2nd, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Great... tell the guy your career is over so he can concentrate on working on his family.. only problem is that by doing that he's gonna have to concentrate more on getting a job than on his family.

The guy cheated on his wife.. it's their business, not anyone else.. If every person got kicked out of his job for infidelity.. our unemployment rate in this country would probably be about 50% instead of 10%.. and high level government officials.. that number would probably be up around 80% unemployment :)

Michelle   July 2nd, 2009 4:32 pm ET

It is time for him to go!

carrie miller   July 2nd, 2009 4:24 pm ET

ok i confess i stole money for an affair as soon as i get caught ill pay it back

EC, Boyds MD   July 2nd, 2009 4:23 pm ET

THANK GOD, someone with a BRAIN. Sanford is becoming and complete JOKE and now Jenny has entered herself into the comedy show as well.

Please show the Sanford's the exit doors. ENOUGH already. We're sick of their Christian Soap Opera.

Melissa   July 2nd, 2009 4:22 pm ET

I agree but the Republicans don't care whats best for anyone but themselves. Thats become increasingly obvious, especially since Obama was elected. I've never seen anything like this. The Republicans just prove how slimy they are every single week.

I don't understand why these people would ever be allowed back into power again.

Better to be in debt than be ruled by whiny children that only care about themselves.

Mama   July 2nd, 2009 4:21 pm ET

If Jenny was cold as ice he should have divorced her before carrying on with another women. once you vote black is just excusing the governors nasty bahaviour

The Other Michael in Houston   July 2nd, 2009 4:21 pm ET

Nice of you to throw Sanford under the bus. Since you GOP types have a problem with being honest, let me help out Karen Floyd. What the statement should have been is: Mark Sanford needs to step down because the GOP is the laughing stock of politics and we have been exposed for what really are, hypocrites, and the only way we can continue to be hypocrites is if we quit giving the American public ammunition to tee off in us, therefore we need to keep lying to the public to stay relevant so let us sweep you under the rug like the others. See now don't you feel about saying the truth.

Sick -n- Tired   July 2nd, 2009 4:16 pm ET

WOW! The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was able to conduct a full investigation and review the Govenor's travel records going back as far as 2001 up to the present day? Really? Already? I think someone should call the people at Guiness Book, that has to be some kinda world record!

Independent_me   July 2nd, 2009 4:09 pm ET

You think?!!

Once You Vote Black   July 2nd, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Stop asking him to step down! Examin Jenny's role in all of this. She must have shunned the Gov or he would have taken the easy way out which would have been to stay with his wife. The man is in love with another women because Jenny was as cold as ice! Stop painting roses on her already.
