(CNN) – South Carolina Law Enforcement Division chief Reggie Lloyd told reporters Thursday that an investigation - which included an interview with a "cooperative" Mark Sanford - had uncovered no misuse of public money by the South Carolina governor.

A report will be forwarded to Attorney General Henry McMaster, who called on Sanford to release his full travel records, and the state ethics commission. The governor's office said earlier Thursday they plan to release those documents after the SLED report.

Great, he is an honest man. hmm Forget this bull and get some jobs back in the USA.

once upon a horse   July 2nd, 2009 3:49 pm ET

no matter how you look at it or what he did, if it was wrong then it's all OBAMA'S fault.....not sure WHY yet but somehow it has to be!

Educate yourselves before you open your mouth and just let the words fall out   July 2nd, 2009 3:49 pm ET

@ phoenix86

Sanford isn't decent enought to get a position as Obama's DOG!

Aspen Professor   July 2nd, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Isn't that odd! The Repubs say that "Sanford did not misuse Public Money". Hmmm ... let me think about that. Do I recall that ole saying .. "Time is money"?

And while Gov Sanford was "getting his plumbing cleaned" by the Argnetine bombshell instead of his wife back home, wasn't that a waste of time and money? Of course not! So many Repubs in Congress have shown, with total hypocrisy, adultery is right up their VALUES list of things to do in their spare time.

Lets see ya bounce up and down on that one Rushy ole boy.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division chief Reggie Lloyd told reporters Thursday that an investigation Gov Mark Sanford didn't misuse of public money. This is good

Fed up in SC   July 2nd, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Well considering he just hired the chief of SLED Reggie Lloyd what do you think that he was going to find??? He is only his boss. How could he have been impartial, they should have let someone else do the investigation outside of SC who has nothing to gain nor lose. But hey, it makes sense so this is why it wasn't done. Can some explain this to me bcause this makes no sense in their findings he misused tax payers money to fund these trips paid the money back once he got caught, yet they find no misuse of public money. Are tax payers dollars considered public money?

We are the laughing stock of America, thanks Mr. Sanford for putting us back on the map in a negative spotlight. We can always count on you. Where is Obama and what does he have to say about this mess? And if they are starting to question his mental capacity of this man, where are the smart people who can file for impeachment instead of waiting to see if he is going to resign when he already said that he wasn't going to?

Claudia in Houson   July 2nd, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Why are they looking for reasons to fire Sanford when he's given them enough. Sanford knows how incompetent they are and he's not giving in or are they afraid he'll spill the beans on them.

Shonie   July 2nd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

"it is a gop full line of auditors….most unbiassed toward the guv..did you expect the results to be any different?….reality strikes again…..gop'ers after all"
So if he were a democrat and democrats cleared him then you'd be ok with that right?

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   July 2nd, 2009 3:27 pm ET

@ Tatianna

An apology for what? Dems are not the one's asking for his resignation. It's his own republican colleagues in S.C. Gov. Sanford owes the people of S.C. an apology. Then he needs to resign.

Big Al C.   July 2nd, 2009 3:21 pm ET

It is their story and they will tell it the way they want it heard. Chief Lloyd along with every employee of SLED will never find any misuse if they are searching in all the wrong places. They want even find that the Governor left the state if they look behind the filing cabinet. Did they find he notified the Lieutenant Governor when he left the country for 6 days? Poor ole Sanford everybody expects him to do his job and not run around with loose women.

probama in paradise   July 2nd, 2009 3:21 pm ET

I don't believe that for a minute–why did he try to pay money back then?

Richard-Arkansas   July 2nd, 2009 3:20 pm ET

I guess that if there had been a major industrial accident or terrorist attack or GOP implosion while he was gone with no chain of command specified by document, it would have been okay also. Failure to act is just as wrong as acting wrongly.

KJL   July 2nd, 2009 3:19 pm ET

I'm sure if his girlfriend lived in Antarctica he could have found "official business" there.

chief Reggie Lloyd   July 2nd, 2009 3:08 pm ET

is he a friend of Sanford?

In the end it does not matter, Sanford piled up in that one week enough calamity, decietfulness and breeches of trust for the legal lines of his actions to not be the determining factor

Sanford, GO WRITE A BOOK and leave office

madmatt   July 2nd, 2009 3:07 pm ET

Really a guy appointed by the gov found that the gov did nothing wrong...shocker! Just another lying southern rethug!

Lisa, Saugus MA   July 2nd, 2009 2:59 pm ET

I wish everybody would just let the Sanfords work out this problem between them. I remember when it was Bill Clinton and the liberal dems were outraged that the conservatives in the media and Congress were "making much ado about nothing". It works both ways folks. Whats good for the dems is good for the republicans.

Sure I think Sanford is a creep for putting his family through his horrific nightmare but that is between them. This story is getting old.

I would like to hear some more about feisty Helen Thomas from the AP taking on Robert Gibb yesterday during the Press Briefing. Good for her!!! You go Helen!

Bev - NYC   July 2nd, 2009 2:57 pm ET

I wonder if this will work for criminal. Sir, are you guilty? No, okay free to go. Are the SLED officer who let him escape 39 times without security off the hook with this finding as well. Can we say quid pro quo?

Do YOU Want Socialist Canadian Scary Health Care?   July 2nd, 2009 2:57 pm ET

MW   July 2nd, 2009 2:57 pm ET

This does not make sense! He was driving a state car and left it at the airport for several days. How is that not misuse of public monies?

Gary SC   July 2nd, 2009 2:56 pm ET

So he offered to pay back all the money that he didn't " missuse"?
Perhaps SLED is why S.C. has some of the highest crime in the country.

Ciera   July 2nd, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Tell you what...Whatever Maria Belen Shapur whipped on Mark Sanford needs to be packaged and distributed to the rest of womankind!!! Mark Sangfroid just all together lost it...

therealmarie   July 2nd, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Bill Bennett and his half truths, distortions and lies continues to embarrass himself everytime he appears on CNN and other Foxlike channels. So, who is he to talk or point fingers at?

We Love Sarah   July 2nd, 2009 2:51 pm ET

That's strange. If the governor did NOT misuse government funds, then why is he paying the state back for the trip he made to visit his girl last year?
What about taking government vehicle out-of-state without permission?

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   July 2nd, 2009 2:50 pm ET

Llyod was appointed by Sanford, so you can expect his report to be top drawer!

ELISABETH MILLER   July 2nd, 2009 2:50 pm ET

But yes he did go on this trip to see his mistress, With our taxpayers money.I am so sick to hear a bout Jenni. This has to do a bout doing your job !! We did not elect her !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get this joke of a Govenor out please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!E M SC
He does not give a hoot for us in SC He is only soor beacuse he was founf out cry and pleas forgive me whatr a crook!!

therealmarie   July 2nd, 2009 2:49 pm ET

The people of south Carolina get the government and Governor they deserve.

Hugo   July 2nd, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Good lordy and you nasty old libs had him convicted didn't ya? I'm not taking up for him, I don't like cheaters. Again the bottom line is has he served SC well as governor? Apparently his state is one of the few that is solvent!

a little sad   July 2nd, 2009 2:46 pm ET

What an "exhaustive" audit that must have been. LOL!

Tatianna   July 2nd, 2009 2:40 pm ET

Dems owe Sanford an apology

Shawn - GA   July 2nd, 2009 2:36 pm ET

We as a people, as a country need to let go of Left or Right. We need to work together, and for God's sake stop with the hateful words that so many of you choose to use.

May God bless you all and I hope everyone has a safe 4th of July!!!

Once You Vote Black   July 2nd, 2009 2:32 pm ET

I wonder it this is just something he felt he had to do because Jenny was no longer interested in fooling around. Someone ought to ask him.

S M R   July 2nd, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Sanford admitted he used taxpayers money to visit his women. How can this report be the opposite of Sanfords statement? Hmmm

Liberal4Obama   July 2nd, 2009 2:32 pm ET

Big Deal the police work for the Governor they will gladly cover for his indiscretions. The governor DID MISUSE state funds that is why he offered to repay the money for his trips. This is just another strategy by the RNC to cover for Mark Sanford, Michael Steele, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and Eric Cantor as the leaders of the GOP need to ask for his resignation, their silence on this issue has been deafening.

tiffany   July 2nd, 2009 2:32 pm ET

I see the good ole boy system is still effect.

Pat Allen   July 2nd, 2009 2:29 pm ET

Well either there were no financial documents to go through or this was the world's quickest financial investigation. Is this "investigator" basing his decision of impropriety on Sanford's word? The "investigator" wishes for the US public to believe that they went through all the Governor's expenditures in this brief period of time? Did he have nothing else to do?

JK Ashburn, VA   July 2nd, 2009 2:28 pm ET

There, what he has done is embarassing. But, it is personal and not illegal. He has not lied under oath. He has not violated his oath of office. He has not abused the public trust or the public purse. No need to resign.

Too bad members of Congress aren't being held to the same standard. They'd not only resign en masse, they'd be in Gitmo under heavy guard.

Bonnie Steffensen   July 2nd, 2009 2:28 pm ET

I would like to send a copy of a letter I have written to the president to Wolf to read on the air. I think that if cnn started reading on the air how the American people, the backbone of this country feel then maybe he will get back to the real problems. Example Jobs for the unenployed!!!

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   July 2nd, 2009 2:27 pm ET

This is the best news the GOP has heard all week. Good for you Mark Sanford. You are still an unethical S.O.B. and should resign. Gov. Sanford seems mentally incapable of being governor.

Sick -n- Tired   July 2nd, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Is the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division an "independent" investigative body? Or are they government appointed "underlings" of the Govenor's office? Just wondering.

Steve (the real one)   July 2nd, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Ok Libs this is your clue to whine about how the fix is in, how the report is protecting Sanford!! Show me how you got, libs! In the words of the late, great Michael Jackson...Shum on!

Pragmatic   July 2nd, 2009 2:24 pm ET

So SLED is going to report and then, and only then, Sanford will release the needed documents?

And I would believe SLED's report because....? It's based on an interview with a man who believes he's like King David?

The people of SC must be just shaking their heads in bewilderment at each crazy turn of events.

Fair is Fair   July 2nd, 2009 2:23 pm ET

Great.

So can we please stop with the "As The Sanford Turns" soap opera?

chamorrita   July 2nd, 2009 2:23 pm ET

EVEN WORSE, this just means Sanford was spending personal money to cheat on his wife Jenny and four sons.

I'm sure Jenny Sanford has taken notice of this news. The fact that her husband is spending money, lots of money to cheat, spend and see his Mistress.

decent american   July 2nd, 2009 2:23 pm ET

i dont give a flying crap what he does, he needs to quit.

what i want to know is this..

WHEN ARE J-O-B-S COMING BACK?? HA?

JOBS? REMEBER THOSE?

Sanford to stay in office   July 2nd, 2009 2:21 pm ET

I hope the Governor igores all the media creeps like Bennett and stays in office

Randy in AZ   July 2nd, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Talk about an "Apology Tour." Once again, Repubs show the Dems how to do it.

Repuglicans act Holier than Thou   July 2nd, 2009 2:20 pm ET

McMaster should cease and desist his abuse of law enforcement authority for a political investigation of Sanford. McMaster just wants to be governor and will do anything to achieve it. Sanford will be out of office in 2010 because he cannot run for re-election. Everyone should mind their own business and stop attacking Sanford for his marital problems. He fell in love, ok? Get over it.

phoenix86   July 2nd, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Sanford did NOT misuse public money? Guess he will never get a position with the Obama administration.
