Don't be fooled, the US would of had to give up something in return. What's behind the agreement? Foreign Policy 101.

to endthewarz--isn't it feasible to surmise that the U.S. cannot just end the war, we can't just allow al qaeda & extremist taliban to operate unchecked in th AF-PAK area. These guys will rebuild & retrain and are vowed & committed to hurting America and her interests. We can't just leave. I am also well aware that our very presence in muslim & arab lands provides the fuel & justification for some arabs & muslims to continue to fight against us. However if we are trying to win hearts & minds in the AF-PAK area, we must first clear away--destroy--the extremest elements in that area. The situation on the ground must be secure in order for elections to be held freely, for aide workers to operate, for schools to be built, for reform to take place. We have to wage & win the war first and then bring in logistical and humanitarian efforts. Saying "endthewarz" is being naive & dangerous.

What a difference a year makes. America's President is now the most trusted leader in the world, while a year ago Bush was the single most hated in the world.

Sort of different having people in other parts of the world cheer our President versus throwing shoes at him or burning our flag.

Well done President Obama.

The United States and Russia must cooperate against a common enemy, the Islamic fundamentalist, and terrorist. Eventually, both countries will have to wage a war of attrition against them. The bush administration nearly destroyed a prime opportunity for both countries to cooperate by interjecting failed policies. The Islamic fundamentalists see the United States and Russia as an evil that must be destroyed, exactly as the axis powers of WWll. Therefore, to address such enemies the United States and Russia must eradicate them. They do not understand, nor are they interested in our philosophies, and consider our lifestyles as demonic, barbaric, and abhorrent. In the face of such delusional religious fanaticism the only course of action is all out war.

I hope this isn't a smoke screen for another agenda of the Russians. If it's sincere, WOW!

GO PRESIDENT OBAMA.

Don't listen to your critics, follow your heart. And you evidently have some fine people surrounding you too!

what was the price of this agreement?

Putin is softening in his old age

If they were already getting weapons to Afgan, is this needed, it must translate into a significant cost reduction

hope the cost reduction outways the favor

As much as I beg to differ,Mr.Powell's concern/s seem bona fide and timely. The American people do owe it that much for a speedy solution to the mounting problems that seem to exacerbate the situation since Mr Obama took the helm. There is just to much on the table and it warrants supernatural abilities to ever get on top of it. Mr.Powell could start with praying for the President instead. Wish you all the best gentlemen!
