(CNN) – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office released a statement Friday, minutes after she announced her decision to step down from office at the end of the month, listing the “Selected Accomplishments of the Palin Administration.”

Full Palin statement after the jump

July 3, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin announced today that she will not seek a second term as Governor of the State of Alaska and will relegate the power of governor to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell in order to serve Alaska’s best interests. Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will move into Parnell’s current role.

“People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska,” said Governor Palin. “Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine.”

Standing outside her home in Wasilla, Alaska, Governor Palin reflected upon some of the administration’s accomplishments for Alaska as she approaches her final year in office.

“I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is not the easiest path,” said Governor Palin after the announcement. “Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional ‘Lame Duck’ status in this particular climate would just be another dose of ‘politics as usual,’ something I campaigned against and will always oppose. It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success. I look forward to helping others – to fight for our state and our country, and campaign for those who believe in smaller government, free enterprise, strong national security, support for our troops, and energy independence.”

The transfer of power will occur following the Governor’s picnic in Fairbanks on July 26. At that point in time, Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell will be sworn in and Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will assume his role as Lieutenant Governor.

Governor Palin will spend July 4th in Juneau.

Palin was a dessaster to the gop from the time she was picked as vp by mccain and the recent scandals in the gop is sad and may god save gop

60's survivor   July 4th, 2009 8:06 am ET

run Sarah run. if you can't handle being govenor of the great state of Alaska. how in the world could she even consider president much less vp of the USA ?!!!!

RSB   July 3rd, 2009 9:08 pm ET

I don't know what to say other than I'm glad she's going. I tried to listen to her speech but couldn't listen to it all. Her tone was as it always is very negative, not only to Dems but Repubs as well. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of her, she'll see to that.

Marie,San Diego   July 3rd, 2009 8:55 pm ET

She's smarter than Obama!
At least she doesn't need a teleprompter like the current idiot-in-chief.
The communist press will now foucus entirely on Plain instead of the communist takeover by the Obama administration.

Apparently, you sounded delusional like Palin. You don't know how to distinct Harvard and Columbia grad versus journalist grad from different unknown universities. BTW, before you spew the word communist, make sure you know the meaning and what it stands for.

MYmymy   July 3rd, 2009 8:34 pm ET

Help others do what Sarah?

frank   July 3rd, 2009 8:30 pm ET

You people are the biggest bunch of moron's, and haters, I guess were doing better underneath this piece of crap president, I hope obama gets his ass handed to him in 2012, these assnine democrats are out of control, Throw These Bums Out On their Worthless Behind Ends, Beginning with Nancy Pelosi, Dick Durbin, Harry Reid, and That Traitor John Mertha, You are all so full of you know what, Lay Off Of Sarah Palin, Shes Gone, Thanks To You Brainless Morons

Ron L   July 3rd, 2009 8:25 pm ET

Three things cover this:
1) She just isn't smart enough to go any further politically. Just listen closely to this last speech..drivelling..blather..that is actually somewhat embarassing for someone in this position of authority.
2) She took a FOUR YEAR job...and she's QUITTING!!! To me this is inexcusable.
3) THERE IS MORE TO THIS...Trust me. Either she or her husband have done something they shouldn't have....JUST WAIT...IT's COMING!!!

A cheater and a quitter   July 3rd, 2009 8:13 pm ET

man! she looked like she was trying to keep from crying.

Ted Tartaglia   July 3rd, 2009 8:10 pm ET

Sarah, you can help by disappearing. The world is tired of you!

Denna   July 3rd, 2009 8:00 pm ET

Oh dear spirits, who is she going to help? This poor creature can't even help herself. She went from being the darling of the Republican National Convention to being a national punchline. She did not do beautiful women (and she is beautiful) any favors by coming off as an airhead. Good luck dear Sarah. You were fun to watch.

Ed Hendricks   July 3rd, 2009 7:43 pm ET

GOD help us all if she should say in politics!!

Sue   July 3rd, 2009 7:25 pm ET

Palin can add to that touted executive "experience" – QUITTING before her term as Governor ends. Yeah, looks real good for someone who WANTS to be president. Hmmm...just imagine IF she is President (God forbid !) – a economic meltdown or terrorist attack (god forbid!) – and she says I am quitting for the good of the country or I am staying in camp David for a while longer and wait for the problems to go away... !!!

bella   July 3rd, 2009 7:22 pm ET

Maybe Sara Palin was one of "those women" that Mark Sanford spoke about in his "confessions for the brave and might"!!!

relieved!!!   July 3rd, 2009 7:16 pm ET

she does not belong in any public office!!!!!

she is incompetent and uneducated

mk   July 3rd, 2009 7:09 pm ET

She will "help others" just like she did John McCain. Ask him he ever wants "help" from her again?

Carmichael Beljackson   July 3rd, 2009 7:00 pm ET

For all you right wing cronies, what makes you think that sarah palin will beat THE PRESIDENT in 2012.Remember she has to survive the republican primaries and with guys like romney, huckabee, gingrich and brownback do you even think she stands a chance.BTW don't forget if OBAMA can can defeat someone like Hillary what makes you think a little girl like pale could defeat HIM.This is common sense,McCain lost because of her and the refoolishcans will brace themselves for another embarassing defeat.

Anny   July 3rd, 2009 6:57 pm ET

Two years is all she served as govener and she quit.......aren't you glad she didn't get elected as VP probably would have quit that too.....she wants top billing, she is a Diva that has to have all the attention on her all the time and she doesn't want to have to answer any questions that the media puts to her unless it is FOX News reporters........boy if she thought she was getting negative coverage in the past and she wants to run in 2012, she will really have the media after her......and you know what I don't think Romney, Huckabee, Bush or any of the other republicans want her going out and speaking on their behalf........they should have shut this woman out a long time ago.....

Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   July 3rd, 2009 6:55 pm ET

Translation: "I look forward to helping others" such as the Democrats who will enjoy a long spell of majority in Washington as a result of her ditzy speech and behavior. I'm an agnostic, but I thanked all applicable Higher Powers for this news.

SD, Michigan   July 3rd, 2009 6:48 pm ET

FOX made her an offer she couldn't refuse, so she left her people in Alaska high and dry.

Jim   July 3rd, 2009 6:47 pm ET

Just the news that she won't run again helps 10's of thousands.

Carmichael Beljackson   July 3rd, 2009 6:43 pm ET

elle woods from the movie legally blonde if a far better presidential contender than sarah palin will ever be.If republicans think she can get the white house for them they are smoking some new pot that no one knows about

Roberto   July 3rd, 2009 6:36 pm ET

WOW! Lots of news to pick from on here. How is it [when] a story breaks it is the top story for 4-5 days? Are people REALLY needing to be "in-the-know" about such things? Melo-drama @ it's best!

jaye   July 3rd, 2009 6:35 pm ET

Helping others do what????? LOLOLOL
This woman is a whack job!!!

Claudia in Houson   July 3rd, 2009 6:34 pm ET

I knew she would pack her bags when Stevens was replaced with a Democrat Senator who she feared would find out more about her than she wanted people to know. Stevens probably kept a lid on it due to his corruption. THINK ABOUT IT.

Donna from Colorado Springs   July 3rd, 2009 6:32 pm ET

Palin and the Republican party will put a positive spin on her announcement, but everyone knows what she has in mind. Either she'll be wanting a senate job or higher up down the road. God help us all if her plans succeed!

Precious   July 3rd, 2009 6:32 pm ET

Now Sarah Palin can come back with a SLAM DUNK! She can now fight back in a wide open court, instead of in a back room.

The Court is yours Sarah. Let's play BALL!

Anonymous   July 3rd, 2009 6:29 pm ET

‘I look forward to helping others’

You mean ... help Fox 'news' sell lies on tv?

You mean .... help the 'crazies' run away from the US?

You mean ..... 'hell yeah' help yourself ??

kishen c.rao   July 3rd, 2009 6:25 pm ET

Mr. Powel, if you want to help, dont bring up Republican or Democrat...bring up "American". We need "American", not these two...

David   July 3rd, 2009 6:22 pm ET

There is more to this story. She wouldn't just walk away from her powerful position 1.5 years early if she was not pushed.

Congratulations Alaska!! But not sure what the other Republican you have will do for you. Just hang in there..in 2010 you will get a Democrat that will help bring your state out of the ice ages.

maria   July 3rd, 2009 6:18 pm ET

You helped Alaska by stepping down, NOW do the rest of us a favor by going away. Raise your family, shut your mouth. Go away!!!

Priscilla California   July 3rd, 2009 6:14 pm ET

To She's smarter than Obama ,What an
Idiotic statement . Get it ! Idiot

Lost in Texas Forever   July 3rd, 2009 6:04 pm ET

Gov Palin is quoted as saying she is willing to help people both Republicans AND Democrats alike. Palin help a DEMOCRAT??? Now that I want to see.....Rush might have a heart attack if she would help a Democrat. BTW if she dislikes the media as much as she claims she is in the wrong business.

RUTY   July 3rd, 2009 6:04 pm ET

I saw her on TV when she first started telling the story about resigning. I went outside–came back 25 minutes later and she was still talking. Does this "idiot of the centuty" ever stop talking?

SueG   July 3rd, 2009 6:03 pm ET

Well Sarah Palin finally has the full attention of the news media – exactly where she likes to be – wonder what she is up to now -

Larry   July 3rd, 2009 5:53 pm ET

Republican to the core ...

When the going gets tough ... run don't walk, in the other direction

Julzzz   July 3rd, 2009 5:45 pm ET

I can't wait to see what she does next. She clearly has had something big come through what will be good for her, this will clearly come out soon enough. Who knows what it is, but I doubt seriously she will be sitting at home simply watching Trigg.

As for those of you who think she is out, just sit back. She will return with a vengence, and I loved the direct, cut to the chase, Obama stabs she made. Easily hit the mark they were intended to! Way to go Sarah!! She clearly will be more able to stand up for the true American, that is proud to be Americans, believe in Smaller Government and less taxes, individuality, independence and the American dream. I hope she comes to the main states and shakes things up!

As for what Powell says, we da%! sure don't need the government to FIX things for us. We need them out of our lives, and out of our pocket books!!!! Someone needs to end this bigger than life program that our grandchildren can't even begin to pay for once and for all.

Obama will be out, the Dems will be locked away and the moderate conservatives will get back in there and have to sweep up all the poo left behind from the Dems Derriers!!!

Patrick, Lake Stevens, Washington   July 3rd, 2009 5:38 pm ET

Yeah, right!

RONNIE   July 3rd, 2009 5:35 pm ET

Sarah Palin is no longer viable for the office of the President of the United States of America.By quitting her office and leaving Alaska in turmoil she has shown her contempt for office and the people of the United States.Who could cast a vote for her to be President if she can not commit herself to a place as small as Alaska?

Michael, Pensacola, FL   July 3rd, 2009 5:18 pm ET

Yes with her help, you too can see Russia from your house and skin a Moose with your teeth!

JR   July 3rd, 2009 5:12 pm ET

‘I look forward to helping others’

After I've helped myself of course. I guess the fact that her "governorship" was the only thing that gave her credibility must have escaped her notice or maybe she saw something shiny while looking at Russia and got distracted

I Lean   July 3rd, 2009 5:10 pm ET

Heads up to Media inlets and outlets: DO NOT COVER HER. No news about SP is Good News.

Darth Vadik, CA   July 3rd, 2009 5:01 pm ET

I'd rather be fighting against the taliban than accept help from a Republican. Republicans are much more dangerous, bigger liars and only worship greed.

(remeber their biggest hero Reagan said "greed is good", when somebody shows you who they are, believe them).

Julio   July 3rd, 2009 4:59 pm ET

She is not telling the true

Revelation

I am here to reveal that Governor Palin is being investigated for something out of ordinary. She was caught doing something that when revealed, will be a deception for most of her supporters. If she keeps her job the scandal will affect the Republican more deeper. Since, she will be forced out of office.

So, for the sake of the party she is stepping down. But the investigation will go forward. In three months the media will have a huge story to sell.

Can't you read her face during the announcement?
Can't you see the deception on her speech?
Why you think she doesn't attack President Obama or the Democrats during the announcement?

She is done folks.

Wait and see.

jay   July 3rd, 2009 4:58 pm ET

"I look forward to helping others" at the expense of the "others" in Alaska. Sounds like good logic. Good thing she's not selfish here or anything. //

mary   July 3rd, 2009 4:57 pm ET

Please Sarah stay away from Illinois, we don't want or need your help. Go back to school and learn how to speak, first of all and then raise your family. Maybe someday, you'll think about having an abortion, you know what you want to take away from other women.

Hilary   July 3rd, 2009 4:55 pm ET

More like she looks forward to "helping herself."

cheryl brooks   July 3rd, 2009 4:54 pm ET

I guess Palin will take Obama's cue and do some community organiging door to door.... who do she think she's fooling!!!!!

Tracy   July 3rd, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Who cares – begone.

GI Joe   July 3rd, 2009 4:50 pm ET

What an insult to her fellow republicans – Leaving it "Lame Duck".

Takes moron mentality to even tolerate this DITZ

Palin_is_a_loser   July 3rd, 2009 4:47 pm ET

Anyone who thinks that Sarah is smart enough to be our VP (or smarter than Obama) must be really dumb!

The only problem with dumb people is that they don't know that they are dumb! :( But since they have pride (like the rest of us), please accept my sincere apologies for hurting your feelings!

KJR   July 3rd, 2009 4:37 pm ET

it was a cold calculation

now she can earn as much as she wants writing books and making speeches, and travel the country with no restrictions

the next 2 years will be tough on governors all over the country; they will be running up massive deficits, and either cutting programs (unpopular) or raising taxes (also unpopular)

So, she chose the easy thing ... and quit

now she can criticize the Federal government, without defending the large deficits that Alaska also has

it's always amazing to me these people who claim they want to serve ... and then when they get a chance, they don't do the job

she's nothing more than a beauty pageant contestant who enjoys all the attention

just say no to Fluffy Bunny

jt   July 3rd, 2009 4:30 pm ET

Good riddance. Can not get over how abrasive that speech was!

She's smarter than Obama!   July 3rd, 2009 4:26 pm ET

At least she doesn't need a teleprompter like the current idiot-in-chief.

The communist press will now foucus entirely on Palin instead of the communist takeover by the Obama administration.

Mary - PA   July 3rd, 2009 4:25 pm ET

As if we didn't hear enough of her babble when she was "busy" running the state of Alaska, now she's going to never stop talking! Hopefully when she loses 2012 she'll get the hint that we really don't want to hear from her any more!
