Palin to step down as governor, not seeking re-election

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Gov. Sarah Palin announced Friday that she will step down as Alaska's chief executive by the end of the month. She will not seek election to a second gubernatorial term in 2010.

Palin, a Republican, was elected governor in 2006. She was tapped as Arizona Sen. John McCain's vice presidential running mate last year.

Palin said she was transferring authority to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who will be sworn in on July 26.

"People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska," Palin said at an announcement from her home in Wasilla.

"Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine."

Palin added in a statement that she was "determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is not the easiest path. ... Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional 'Lame Duck' status in this particular climate would just be another dose of 'politics as usual,' something I campaigned against and will always oppose."

A Republican source close to Palin's political team told CNN's John King that it was a "calculation" she made that "it was time to move on."

The governor's "book deal and other issues" were "causing a lot of friction up" in her home state, the source said, adding that he believes that she is "mapping out a path to 2012."

Another source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Palin "thinks she has accomplished goals she has set forward. ... She sees what a positive influence she has had on people's lives from traveling the country in the last year."

As the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, Palin has been considered one of the front-runners for the next GOP presidential nomination. Her decision not to seek another term as governor is sure to stoke speculation that Palin is seriously eyeing a run for the White House.

In an interview last month with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Palin said she was unsure about her re-election bid because she needed to focus on her state and her family.

"So, no decision yet on either 2010 or let alone 2012?" Blitzer asked.

"No decision that I'd want to announce today," Palin responded.

– CNN's Peter Hamby, John King, Mark Preston, and Alan Silverleib contributed to this report.

Okay, I can understand her not running again, but are you saying, CNN, that she's quitting early and won't serve out the rest of her term? I'm so confoooooosed.

So Sarah is going for to run for President as a one-term governor of the country’s third least-populous state, elected with only 48% of the vote, who spent half of that term running for national office. Sure, works for me.

Maybe it is too hard to be everything to everyone? Maybe there is some dirt about to be dug up? Maybe Greta and the First dude are having an affair? How is quiting being the Govener DURING your first term lead well into running for president?

Maybe our prayers have been answered and she'll just go away?

Well, either she knows she's one step ahead of some sort of *really* nasty ethics probe, or she's under the delusion that it's a good time to start campaigning for President in 2012. Either way, what bliss.

Is it too early to get a jump on 2012? I say make your presence known on all the major shows, maybe write a book or two, and be in the face of everybody, then in 2010 announce a run for President.

    Very shocking news.

More posturing for the top office by Palin...I don't understand why she wouldn't stay in office until 2010, she certainly would be able to keep her name in the news much easier as governor of Alaska (as that has obviously been her intention EVERY SINGLE WEEK. You cannot quit your first term and expect to succeed in higher office (President, or otherwise). She is too thin-skinned for politics, and maybe getting a glimmer of reality that she is simply not bright enough to go further in politics. Good riddance. Personally, I believe that either the ethics scandals are going to expose something, and perhaps someone found the smoking gun that Trig really is her grandson.

Hell, if an unqualified community organizer with zero experience and virtually no time on the job as a 1 term jr. senator from one of the most politically corrupt cities and most corrupt political party can run for president, why can't a qualified, experienced governor from one of the most strategically important ( oil and military) states run for president? Works for me.

If she was to step down, I'm sure there would be some good reason for it. What is seriously wrong with the brain of people that would waist not a second to attack her for that. I'm convinced they must be infected with some sort of mad cow affliction. To attack without provocation reminds me of the Conn. chimp. Get some help people. You really need it.

This continues the slide of the Republican Party in the US. (Woo Hoo.) This woman disgraces her gender, her state, and her party with her lack of interest knowledge and her inability to express a coherent thought.

While she appeals to a limited public, she has no potential to expand that minority – the one that's dragging Republicans down like a lead anchor – and limited appeal to the rest of the voting population.

Having her out campaigning through 2012 will add more opportunities for the late night comedians to enjoy her inadequacies and for her supporters to claim prejudice, bias and bigotry against the unintelligent, the uninformed, and the unaware.

She's proven time and again that she doesn't have what it takes to be the President of the United States and this resignation only adds to the absurdity of one of the most ridiculous stories of 21st century US politics.

If she raises money from some of the Republican regulars, and takes the Right by storm, she will divert attention and resources from more electable potential candidates (are there any?), giving the President and the Democrats a better path to "four more years." Bless her heart.

And now the 'running' begins, huh?

Running for President after not completing her first term as a Governor and losing a majority of support in that state due to ethics issues and not 'running' the state while trying to play on a national stage.

And the really stupid thing will really be the number of people that will still support her in this endeavor. Would she, if elected, decide that family is more important than the United States if the going gets tough?

Yeah, *That's* what we need in the White House, huh?

I'm from Georgia and was never really embarrassed by the fact the Newt was from here, I was embarrassed by the fact that enough people kept putting the Grinchrich (intentional) back in office.

I am sure she will continue her duty's as governor until her term is up. She is giving notice to all others in the state to be prepared to run. So far Palin has beaten all 15 ethic charges and thus she is as clean as any of the other politicians out there. She is tainted though with such vile attacks that it will be difficult to see her run for president. She couldn't keep a commitment to the people of the state Alaska for one FULL TERM. Is it the article in Vanity Fair SNL jokes jokes on Letterman or what??? Is she that thin-skinned and if that's the case , what happens in 2012 and she wants to enter into politics again and she shakes her responsibility again for a change for the sake of individual freedoms? Advancing in another direction is politico speak for "I can't do 2 things at once so I need to concentrate on my presidential run in 2012 without the incumbrances or responsibility of Alaskan needs."

Obvious move by Palin for something greater, perhaps for the White House in 2012. She was constantly attacked, unwarranted, by the liberal media. Perhaps her strategy is to "hide out" for a year or two and come back when the media least expects it? I don't know if I agree, but contrary to what most believe, she is a very intelligent woman, and she's most definitely go something up her sleeves.

What the hell was that announcement/speech about??? Has she ever been tested for ADHD? It's like her staff put a bunch of statements on post-it notes, wallpapered her office with them and released a superball. The speech was written as the ball hit a post-it note...
And where are these comments on Trig – I've never heard a single one. Maybe, like Letterman, she too confused her kids...

What to get the President who has everything? WHAT a thoughtful holiday gift to the nation! I didn't think Ms. Get-A-Moose had it in her....Now she'll have time to raise her illegitimate grandchild, "re-educate" her daughter on how to speak "right" about abortion, and find out if hubby Todd has seceded and 'and also' created his own state somewhere. Maybe she can see it (also) from her porch....

Sarah Palin should run for President, and I dont know what prayers you are talking about but most of the people I know pray that Obama will go away..... Alaska may be one of the least populated but it has the 2 LARGEST producing oil fields in the USA, and holds a total of about 30% of the US oil reserve so it has more going on then most states. Anyone who can run Alaska would make a good President.

It seems like political suicide to refuse to finish the first term. I mean, how are her constituents going to react in 2012? Me think she was probably caught having sex with one of her aids far away into the forest on a cold lonely night. YOu could hear the call of the wolf not far away. Their snow mobil had run out of gas and they found an empty cabin. A fire was lite, the place got warmer and SArah just had to have it.. In fact she just said to her aid, "Gotta tell you I really need to have you. It has been a long time and I cant hold it any longer. Just take me into your arms and forget that I am your governor"

The young aid was to shock to reply yet happy to oblige and he just uttered an energetic "YOu betcha!"

I agree with your point – to an extent. True, Obama did not have the most experience in national politics before the election. His lack of national political experience was, and should have been, criticized and his record scrutinized. During the campaign, however, he proved himself to be intellectually gifted and incredibly disciplined. Palin failed to exhibit those same qualities.

why would you want to give Alaska back? if you knew anything about Alaska you would know its worth in natural resources is greater than the other 49 states COMBINED. yeah, in a time where we are dependent on foreign oil and our country is only growing a massive trade deficit, yes, lets give Alaska back to the Russians.

Or, those of us with an IQ higher than room temperature can be thankful that we have a place like Alaska still to pillage for all its worth.

If she does run, I find it very hard to believe that she will get the nomination from the GOP. She is seen as a joke. I know that it's harsh critique but it's a fact. People aren't fooled for long and no one wants someone in the White House who doesn't have the ability to do an interview on television. Say what you want about Hilary, but at the very least the American public wouldn't have been embarrassed about having her talk to foreign heads of state. Could you imagine what foreign nationals would think of us if they sat down with someone like Palin. Are credibility would go right out the door. No way does she get the nomination.

am a dem and voted for Obama but just reading the vile things being said on this blog makes me sad.

So the woman isn't running again. Why can't grown up people address that issue. Why say such vile things against a woman who from everything that had been reported on her did a good job as governor. She was fiscally responsible, even getting oil revenue back into the hands of every man, woman and child living in Alaska.

So maybe she will run for Senate. Why can't she. MN just elected a comedian didn't they? We had an actor as President. Sonny Bono was a congressman. People come from all different backgrounds and I thought that is what made America a great place. My fellow dems on this blog are downing her because she is a woman who doesn't think or act the way that they do. I thought that was the democratic way. Barney Frank is gay, Ted Kennedy rich, Jennifer Granholm foreign…I think you get the picture.

Give the woman some peace and quiet and stop acting like children. It will come back to bite you in the rear.

I can understand all the men bashing of Palin, that's what men in America do to women politicians (including Hillary) but you women need to look at what she has done!! She appointed only the second women EVER to Alaska's supreme court and the women was more liberal than Palin's personal views (prochoice/pro life respectively). The other candidate was an ultra conservative male. Look at Alaska's budget and look at her accomplishments. McCain didn't pick her because she was a beauty queen. Palin has taken a much more balanced approach in leading than Obama has and Obama claimed to be The One to "reach across the aisle." Are women in this country going to continue to get snowed but smooth talking men? It's really time for some changes but it isn't going to happen as long as women bash other women and continue to elect men who tend to be tyrant like. We are 54% of the voting population and we have less than 20% representation. I'm a Democrat but I am paying attention. It isn't Democrats and Republicans who cheat on their spouses and continue to play this game in Washington – it's men. Shame on you women who are participating in throwing stones at Palin!

This is a victory for the people of Alaska, who played second fiddle in Palin's priority list ever since she was the VP nominee and then spend the last eight months trying to extend her 15 minutes. I will give her credit for finally putting her state first and doing what was right for the people of Alaska and stepping down. That being said, if she is resigning in order to focus on a presidential campaign, she should think again. Right before the election, polls showed an overwhelming majority of people did not think she had the experience to be VP, and I don't see how leaving the governorship less than three years in is going to make her more experienced. Maybe she'll just fade off the scene and go back to raising all those kids she keeps having (and their kids).

What? Was the actual work of governing too hard?? Don't want the job anymore now that the oil revenues aren't enough to prop up her socialist state? Go ahead and let her run for president – can't even complete one term as governor? This dilettante approach to government, the inability to take sound counsel, the tabloid-worthy family life, the wilfull celebration of ignorance and anti-intellectualism all should be immediate disqualifiers. And this is supposed to be the savior of the Republican party?

    The reason?

The McCain campaign leaked the devastating email about her lies–and Todd's membership in AIP. It was a warning shot, "Don't run again."

The unflattering Vanity Fair article didn't help.

The only one she listens to is TODD PALIN. He's sick of being criticized, its straining their marriage and he gave her an ultimatum.

And....more emails from McCain may be on the way.

It doesn't show very much commitment to those who elected you when you suddenly decide to quit and relinquish all responsibility for your job.

Ms. Palin is an elected official. Being Governor is not just "some job" you can walk away from.

    July 3, 2009 04:10 pm at 4:10 pm |
  288. Obama supporters listen good

You are all so sickening! You are blogging that she didn't finish her term etc. etc. May I remind you so high and mighty dems that Obama didn't finish out his term. The people of IL ended up facing a governor who tried to sell his seat and a replacement who has questionable ethics regarding said seat.

So I don't think anybody needs to question why she is stepping down early. Maybe their is a personal matter she needs to attend to regarding her family. Despite the vile things you say about her, it is apparant to me as a mother that she loves her children and husband and that they come first in her life.

If she were a man you all wouldn't have a thing to say about it now would you?

Ooops - just realized: she's not Governor One-Term-And-Run - she's Governor Abandons-Ship-In-The-Middle-Of-Her-Term, Governor Turn-Tail, Governor Broken-Promises, Governor Chicken. The mind just boggles.

Pit Bull? Hardly! And she expects to have a political future? I don't think so...

With everyone trying to figure out what Palin's up to, two scenarios come to my mind: One, she's going to become a commercial fisher(woman) in order to compete against her husband, or two, she's going to divorce her husband and marry Dick Cheney after he dumps his wife.

Governor Pain's decision to step down to take care of Trig is implausable. Can you imagine her stepping down if she were Vice President? What is in the background forcing this decision? It's not her sons needs.

She also mentioned that she consulted with the most important members of her family ...her kids. Did she not include her husband ?

All the messages being sent out there about Palin are more or less fragmented. I think CNN owes the public the duty of publishing nothing less than the whole truth. It's hard to tell if this lady is ending her current term prematurely or not; CNN did not bother to provide all that information. Also we don't know why she is deciding to take this stance. Or maybe CNN is only helping her to get an attention she does not deserve. If the media wasn't turning into something horrible, how can you explain the fact that we'll be told that Palin is quitting her job in mid term, without any reason as to why she is doing it; but rather they were so excited to hurriedly get it published out there – this is really sad! CNN can do better than this.

Quitting, now that's not a very conservative thing to do. Conservatives preach family values, integrity, self-ownership, and to never quit. Is she really a conservative?

Which party caused the messes we are in now?

Which party ran the economy in the ground by letting big business do whatever they wanted? Which party threw out parts of the Constitution? Which party started an illegal war? Which party lied to Congress to get that war? Which party tortured? Which party committed war crimes? Which party leaked the ID of a CIA officer? Which party ran Palyin for VP?

    ALL Crimes.

    Lay,

If you believe anyone is afraid of Sarah Palin, let me sell you the Brooklyn Bridge. The "myth" of the left being afraid of Palin is just media created. If you will let your mind go back to November 4th 2008, McCain and Palin were beaten in a landslide victory by Obama and Biden. It will be no difference in 2012. All Obama will need to do is play that interview between Palin and Katie Couric.

Palin is completely out of her league.

I'm delighted to hear this news, but I'm 100% sure it has nothing to do with her plans for 2010 or 2012.

Although... given how Twilight Zone-esque the GOP has become of late, it wouldn't surprise me if her advisers told her that this is a good way to get votes. It also wouldn't surprise me if she was dumb enough to believe it.

The Rev thing almost lost the election for him. Your intelligence lost the election for you. I would hate for people to vote for her in 2012. How you going being VP when didnt even finish your term as Gov. She talked about all the good she done and she take credit but if so good why leaving. Looking forward to seeing Sarah Palin on the 2012 national ballot. She is the most refreshing, wholesome person to show up on the political landscape in my entire lifetime. Integrity, intelligence, morals, ethics. She's got them all. I don't think those qualities much exist in politics these days....if they ever did.

Mostly, I have taken to calling the Congress and Senate a "Parliament of Wh*ores." Won't even comment on our current president.

    Time to clean house.

    So.....you go, Sarah!

Guess her book deal and talk show appearances were more lucrative and more fun than being governor. If she REALLY wanted to position herself for another political office in 2010 or 2012, then throwing in the towel and being a quitter isn't the way to do it.

Or, as another person said, maybe she got tired of MJ grabbing all the headlines this past week and will announce tomorrow that she was "just kidding" today. What a moron.

LLB, I agree w/ u. Most men can't stand seeing a woman being a lot smarter than them & to all the other women who bashing her like an idiot knows that she is still a hell of lot smarter than McCain, Biden & Obama.

When she stepped down she did it for her future & see where it would take her. If this does take her to 2012 Presidental election. U will c her as our new/next President of USA.

She is capable of getting the job done & a lot better w/ her tough talking woman that she is. I will always be in her corner no matter what.

    LLB,

You appear to be a representation of the democratic party that we once had and need to get back to in this country. I am a republican and also believe that the republican party has also lost touch with it's core beliefs. We need to strong parties in this country. I applaud you, LLB, for your candor and agree with you. Palin is a strong women who finds it more important to do the right thing rather than be popular. She has made mistakes but she is human and truly wants to do what is right for her state and her country. God bless you, Gov. Palin.

Palin would have lost her re-election, and would not have even made it through a Republican primary for governor in 2010. Alaskans are tired of the drama, the ethical issues, and a governor focused on herself and not the state.

The fact Palin put book-deal money ahead of her job shouldn't surprise anyone either. She's a pure opportunist taking advantage of her 15 minutes of fame – which will be over long before 2012.

One who is there everyday and not traveling all over the world looking to improve her image as a politician. This mother of four children and one grandchild at home needs to understand her responsibilities as a mother. Just giving birth to five children does not automatically make you a good mother if you aren't there for those children's needs.

Donna in Orlando.... it's not that we hate her because she's a woman, and woman don't hate her because their idiots... we hate her because she's pure evil and a COMPLETE VILLAGE IDIOT!

How many years and how many colleges did it take before she graduated with an actual degree? Obama went Ivy League – you can't even compare! Not to mention all her numerous unedited interviews where she actually thought the job of VP "meant making policy changes" which is so far off the mark.

She couldn't manage her own daughter – and a moron like her shouldn't be let NEAR the white House. Ever. Not even for a tour!

I hope not, but McCain lost any chance at the whire house when he selected her. I would luv to know her IQ level. Two things in her speech resonated with me.
    1) That somehow God placed oil and gas in Alaska for the sole purpose of being exploited for gain at the expense of the landscape and wildlife. That's typical thinking for blind republicans.
    2) She bragged about championing predator control as a sound form
of wildlife management (that means killingwolves from helicoptors)
She is the biggest predator out there.

Where is Palin's dedication to Alaska? Assuming she is so good at her job, why not finish out her term accomplishing more for her state? Does she really expect rational people to accept her reasoning? Looks like a thinly veiled attempt to hide her self-serving move. She does not appear very "executive" to me. She is a very divisive individual that would be a fatal choice for any higher office.

Which leads me to believe that something very, very nasty is about to surface and she is getting out while everything is still on her terms...

(and Obama WON POTUS and thus stepped down from his post – he did not quit. There is a HUGE difference there. McCain would have had to do the same thing, I can't believe people actually use this to defend their ignorance, geez)

Regardless of any other qualities that she may have this is enough to disqualify her for any public office above the major of Wasila. How can any reasonable person consider her qualified to be the POTUS or even VP. Do people supporting her have any regard for the good of our country? Not that it would stop the press from reporting it. Maybe something happened ,and she feels it would be best for her family to bow out ;and let Alaska go forward without her. "Nope, Obama got there first – and spent our children, our children's children, and our children's, children's children into immense, abysmal, fathomless debt."

Wayne Moore – for people like you, does your memory go back before 1/20/09? You clowns certainly don't seem to remember anything prior to Obama's inauguration. George Bush spent our children, our children's children, and our children's children's children into immense, abysmal, fathomless debt. Obama increases are a tiny little sliver added onto those debts. But nothing before 1/20/09 exists for you. You're like Cheney, criticizing the decision to pull troops out of the cities in Iraq by June of 2009, when it was originally a Bush Administration plan.

I realize that to a Christian mindset that thinks the world was magicked into existence over a 6 day period by an invisible sky god 6000 years ago, it may seem like things can just magically pop into existence out of nowhere. But the truth is that the government we have today, the country we have today, the economy we have today, and the debt we have today, all go back much further then the guy we have in office today. It's his job to try to figure out a way through it, and that's what he's doing.

He did not win by a slim margin, he won 52% to 46%, far stronger than either of Bush's terms or Clinton's terms. He can find his birth certificate, and it is in fact posted on the Internet.

I smell a giant scandal about to break....Republicans have been caught in sex and corruption scandals back-to-back-to back. Palin is the next of the long list of hypocritical, erratic, flaky, mentally unstable and completely immoral and characterless Republicans who have had to leave office.

She was already convicted of "abuse of power" as Governor. I guess more charges on her illegal use of state funds is about to break.

Her political career has been dead for a long time – she is the only one who doesn't seem to realize it. This woman is beyond stupid if she thinks all 25 of the Republicans left in America will vote for her for anything. She is unstable, erractic, unreliable, and a confirmed liar.

I am here to reveal that Governor Palin is being investigated for something out of ordinary. She was caught doing something that when revealed, will be a deception for most of her supporters. If she keeps her job the scandal will affect the Republican more deeper. Since, she will be forced out of office.

So, for the sake of the party she is stepping down. But the investigation will go forward. In three months the media will have a huge story to sell.

Good thing Palin didn't win the election. She probably would've dropped out of her position like she is now to make a more positive change in the world. Umm...isn't that the goal when running and working for government.

I am not a Republican or Democrat

I am just a registered voter

I do not dislike Sarah Palin because of all the obivious reasons

I do not know her personally so I can not say if I like her or not

However, what I can say, is that I want all politicians, especially the
President to be 1000 times smarter than me

And for all the obivious reasons, I know that Sarah Palin is not that person

People are not afraid of Sarah Palin because she is a republican or because she "tells it like it is...you betcha"

People are afraid of Sarah Palin because she is incompetent to be in any public office

I know that I would never want my son's future in her hands

I cried for three weeks when George Bush got re-elected (or elected for the first time)

I know now that God did not give the world John Kerry, because he wanted to give the world Barack Obama

And I thank God for that every single day!!!!!

One doesn't resign a governorship with a 1.5 years left in one's term. Period. If one does, one may kiss any hope of holding a higher office goodbye. Palin just ended her political career - a career that was already questionable because of her bizarre and immature behavior. Ed Rollins of CNN says that people are going to be suspicious of this move. Suspicious is not quite the right word. Let's try that we know that there must be something nefarious behind this resignation. We're going to find out that Sarah was caught with her panties down, has been taking kick-backs from someone, has abused her office is some criminal way, etc. In truth, she's never really been governor of Alaska; more of a spokeswoman who entertained herself on the taxpayers dime. She's certainly spent more time on the road as candidate and GOP sweetheart-of-the-month than serving the people of Alaska over the last two years. And her popularity in Alaska has been plummeting. Is that it? Is it as simple as that? The political landscape got rocky and Sarah can't hack it?

Think you can run for president now, Sarah? Think again. The GOP wouldn't put you up for the job if you were the last Republican left.

Palin just gave an unscripted 45 minute speech (virtually no notes) from her heart and that will be the initial speech for Pres of 2012.
How long can Obama talk with no Teleprompter ? Five words before he stammers and stutteres – Mr. O is a groomed "reader" for those who groomed him (you would be shocked if you knew the behind the scenes and who is there).
Wash POst and their money making scheme this week inc the White House is very interesting. …. $25,000 for access to White house. They will screw up and have to be prosecuted by the end of 2010.

Forty-five minues of run on sentences and no clear concise message is not what I call a great speech. But hey, what do you expect from republiCANTs.

"Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional 'Lame Duck' status in this particular climate would just be another dose of 'politics as usual,' something I campaigned against and will always oppose." "

Holy cow! (or should I say Moose?) By that logic, if elected president, she would resign the day after her second inauguration. While that would be wonderful, I'd hate to think what sort of dimwit would be willing to be second banana to a prize like Palin....

God save us from any future designs on power this wretched beast has. I PRAY that she is dropping from politics permanently... that someone showed her the goods on something that would destroy her should she try to come back.

I was always taught that there is good in every one. That's not the case with Sarah Palin. She must be stopped.

It is so sad the first time a HONEST politician steps up to bat for the American people and the far left liberal incompetents and the repubbie inbreds slaughter her. No wonder obama got elected – no wonder people are sitting on their behinds letting him destroy our country. You idiots should be more concerned as to what obama and his chicago henchmen are doing not Gov. Palin stepping down. If the government run news media had maligned my family like they have hers, I would have done more than step down.

Palin was protecting Alaskans from further expense as the low lifes who have been attacking her (scared of her in 2012) won't stop.
I predict she will be back w/a vengence and beat the pants off the Marxists in the Whitehouse.

Yes, Virginia – there is a Santa Claus...IN JULY!! Great INDEPENDENCE DAY present for the people of Alaska, America, and the WORLD! If she can't stand the heat to govern the state of Alaska...who would EVER want her to run THE USA? Oh yeah...some of you bigoted haters and Rush followers. Geez...get a life!

Actually we DO need a woman President. I'd like to see Condalisa Rice give it a go. A double woman ticket, with Palin, or even better, Michele Bachmann, as VP would be the bomb.

I am a conservative and I am mortified that the GOP can't come up with anyone better than Palin to be the party "star". She is everything I have come to hate about politicians....in fact most of the GOP is. When will we wake up and realize a two party system was NOT what the founding fathers had in mind?

If Palin can't handle her job in Alaska she would NEVER be able to handle a position in Washington!!!!!! How could she even think she could handle running for president in 2012 or even a senator in 2010 when she doesn't have the decency and stamina to handle being governor???? She's hiding something for sure. Typical Palin

I don't think she will stay in politics. I don't know about the rest of you but from watching her the last few months, Palin has not been herself. Take a look at pictures from last year and you will see a big difference in her appearance. She has lost weight and is looking older and greyer. I don't think Sarah Palin is quiting over anything other than her health and sanity. I think with a lot of the spotlight on her(which is her own doing) she hasn't been able to achieve what she wanted. Too much scrutiny.

PALIN IS A HARRY TRUMAN, AND WATCH WHAT HAPPENS STARTING NEXT FALL. We might actually get a "REAL" person and not a fake cold heartless and calculating perosn in the Whitehouse in 2012.
Palin can give a speech without notes, so could Truman....Obama can't do anything without a teleprompter as he is a groomed person – most of what he says he has been told what to soy – behind the scenes would scare you.
