Johnston: Palin wanted to take the money, 'forget everything else'

Johnston is the ex-fiance of Bristol Palin, the Alaska governor's daughter.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin wanted to take the money and "just run with it," the father of her grandchild said Thursday.

Levi Johnston told reporters the Alaska governor was stepping down early to take advantage of millions in potential earnings. According to the Anchorage Daily News, the 19-year-old said that late last year he heard Palin say "how nice it would be to take some of this money people have been offering us and just run with it, and saying forget everything else."

He pointed to talk show offers and other potentially lucrative deals.

Earlier this week, Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein told the Washington Post that the governor had received "hundreds of credible offers since the campaign," including Hollywood projects, but had not taken advantage of any except her book deal. Johnston said that even the Palin children had been fielding offers.

Johnston said he saw how stressful Palin's job was for her – "how she came home late at night and things like that" – but said he thought " the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars."

Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton dismissed Johnston's take, referencing his own show business aspirations. "It is interesting to learn Levi is working on a piece of fiction while honing his acting skills," Stapleton told reporters.

This young man consistently seems to offer up explanations and observations that ring far more true than the shrill professional victim-speak of the Pailn camp.

Well of course she did! Thanks to Levi for being honest enough to acknowledge this. She should take the money and go live somewhere that we don't have to hear from or about her ever again. That would be the fairy tale ending for me.

I have never in my adult life seen a public figure, politician, criminal, athlete or otherwise, subjected to more rumor, innuendo and plain vicious and malicious attacks than Sarah Palin.

Now the press relies on and quotes an obviuosly biased and prejudiced party with no background other then vendetta to make these assertions.

It is the mdeia at it s worst. It disgusts me.

Stapleton shouldn't knock the kid... he's the only one up there that isn't scared to state the obvious.

Opting to quit and chase the money is the best thing Palin could do for her family. She had no real future in polotics anyway.

She quit, and her political career is finished. Now, a book deal, probably ghost-written by that kid who wrote a book about her, and then a speaking tour and a show on Fox News. In four years, she'll be about as visible as Pluto. Good riddance.

The news media swarming around this Levi Johnston punk and hanging over his every unproven accusation about Ms. Palin had better never turn their back to him. He will knife you in a blink of the eye, so don't cross him. He is even more treacherous than the new Gaddafi-obama-Putin alliance.

This is what we all suspected. And some people want this woman to run for president? Unbelievable. She's an opportunists among other things. She's sleaze. Can't even carry through with her commitments. Is this all the Republicans can come up with? If so they are going to be in the wilderness for years to come.

CNN: It is over! I do not believe that you are running a story from the ex-boyfriend of Sarah Palin's daughter. There is so much more important news to write about–what about our troops in Iraq and Afganistan who are in harm's way ever day protecting our freedom?

Please align your priorities with ours!

Sure.... they are going to take atvange of those offers...although... I would not take Bristol serious as an advocate for abstinence. Sarah Palin never had the "know-how" to be the mayor, govenor, or VP anyway.

Stop giving this low life kid publicity already. It is obvious what he is trying to pull. Isn't he trying to get a book deal himself?

I beleive him and what is wrong if Sarah wanted to cash in? The fact she is lying about quitting!

She has always pretended to be something she is not and it is all getting unraveled. She has quit every elected position she has been in, how can any American want a quiter to run for president – the fact she quits goes agaisnt the very foundation and values that this country was founded on. Could you imagine the Founding Fathers quitting because it was too tough. I compare her to the Iranian people protesting in the streets – they have it much harder than Palin but the word quit isn't anything they do!! I support them not Palin

I ask all Americans to see this woman for who she is a quiter – looking for something better.

This is a pretty good story, when we do not know where to start, if there will be and end. Who is right? who is wrong?
According to me, people like Palin do not decision without thinking twice. The future will tell us more. Let's see.

CNN, your source is a 19-year old redneck who no doubt has it in for all the Palin's and is likely just looking for cash out of this deal too??? Remember, poor Levi went out on the talk show circuit to berate all the Palin's for cash. How can you claim him to be credible?

It is amazing the campaign to smear this woman into the ground. I don't think for a second she is qualified to hold any national office, but at the same time I think she does have the potential to do something worthwhile.

Are the CNN liberals and dems just that afraid of her? Really sick.

    CNN = tabloid trash.

While I wouldn't put Levi down as the most credible source, I see that his percepion fits the situation and seems to confirm all of the repoarts earlier about Palin's actions.

If true, she should just come out and spare us all the drama and leave. But since she is a true drama-queen, she won't and the speculation about her aspirations and constant coverage will continue so tightie righties, deal with it. We will call her out for what she is (unqualified, illiterate, silly, hateful, self-righteous) until she says she will not run for office.

If a person finds themselves unable to complete one four-year term governing such a sparsely populated state, why would anyone with control of all their faculties believe that person could handle even one four-year term leading the government of the entire United States? Cut away all the spin, the political double-speak and the partisanship and you have nothing more than an elected official who found they couldn't handle the job. Offers of "millions" for a book, television appearances or whatever just made the decision much easier. This is not someone who should be seriously considered for public office in the future.
