more republicans trying to escalate the issue using inflammatory language and even flat out lying.

still proving they are the party of no, it seems.

i wonder if they will ever even try to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem

I think many forget how long it took for us to get into this mess, so a reasonable mind would then realize it will take us a while to get out of this mess. But wait most Republican do not have reasonable minds and to my fellow Dems give it a chance even I knew things wouldn't move as fast as we would all like.

Sorry, Cantor, but after 8 years of waging 2 wars and giving tax breaks to the rich, and ignoring the deficit and the impact on future generations, President Obama does NOT own the economy after 6 months, President Obama is doing the best he can considering the mess he inherited from you republiklans on 1/20/2009.

Only you neo-con knuckle heads and your redneck knuckle dragging followers, believe what you say!

From one of the 60% that approve of President Obama's work to date, Good Job!

Can anyone remember one positive comment made my Cantor since his party LOST the election? It has been nothing but "no", obstructionism, and sour grapes. If this is all they have to offer as leadership, then they might as well start planning for 2016.

Rep. Cantor is right.

Obama, if you remember, said that he would go over LINE BY LINE through the government budget and get rid of inefficiences and waste.

Obviously he neglected this in trying to push for faster approval of the stimulus package.

Sure, everyone can break promises. But if people here blame Bush for everything, it's also fair grounds to blame Obama for his lies......

It will take more than six months to repair the damage done in 8 CATASTROPHIC years of Bush/CheneyCo. & their swindling, price gouging, and war profiteering friends.

Mr. Cantor, you make me embarrassed to be a Virginian. If he were still around, Thomas Jefferson would surely slap your deceitful and disingenuous face for promoting an agenda of more lies, fear, mistrust and elitism. It is your duty to support the Constitution and the people of the Commonwealth. What have you done for us, except political grandstanding to refuse financial support for unemployed Virginians and homeowners in jeopardy of defaulting on their mortgages?

"At long last, sir...have you no shame?"

It's amazing that the GOP party who had basically decimated the economy over the last eight years and drove the country into the deepest recession in 75 years is now complaining about job loss.

How hypocritical can you get?

Also, it's interesting to note Cantor's supposing concern for American jobs while advocating the shutting down of what's left of the American car industry and moving the jobs overseas with the millions that were already off shored in the last 30 years under successive GOP administrations.

Baloney, Eric. There have been many jobs created and more coming. The idea that Obama bears sole responsibility for the sorry state of the economy is ludicrous. But of course withfolks like Neil and Vyker around, ludicrous is status quo in the GOP.

Ah, yes, there would've been plentiful jobs created in just 6 months if Obama had giving the rich a tax cut.

When tax cuts are given, businesses do not plan, strategize, nor do they budget. They go out there and start hiring away!

Republicans created that economical crisis and USA failure.
It is difficult to understand that they want to fix it now.
Their prescription is lower taxes. See what happened with California
(26 bil deficit) thanks to their minimized taxes.
So - please conservatists and republicans - stay away from government because you do not even believe in role of government.
Please stop talking - let others to fix what you destroyed.
It will be very difficult to fix it, as you can see, it wii take years, not just couple months.

Rep. Cantor is full of criticism and short on ideas. Were the
Republicans in power, we would have tax cuts, but few services,
a further declining infrastructure, part two of "Wall Street Gone Wild",
more expensive, more exclusionary health care, and even more jobs shipped overseas. Many, many years of Republicvan rule have gotten us in this predicament. It did not happen by accident and it did not
happen because the Dems were in power in Congress for two years -
remember, they had a Republican president to deal with.

They are counting on the citizens of this country to have a short memory; if not, how can they justify this constant drumbeat trying
to tear down the current administration while they try to install one of
their own.

They are counting on the citizens of this country to have a short memory; if not, how can they justify this constant drumbeat trying
to tear down the current administration while they try to install one of
their own.

Hey Blondie,
Why do you bring up Bible-Thumping? There was no Christian issue here until you brought it in. If Obama would start directing the stimulus at private industry and small business, you may see the tide turn. The ignorance of the left and of people like Blondie on this board are the problem. The hate for the other side and the far reaching insults. Do you think there are no bible thumping democrats Blondie? Pull your head from the tight warm spot where you now have it and see what's really going on here. Your hate for Christians is your own problem. Putting this money into Government Jobs and Unions is not the solution. Stop trying to pay back those who voted for you and start putting American business back to work.

It's so obvious when democrats are covering up their screwups. They immediately personalize the attacks and start the fingerpointing and deflections to Bush. The people aren't buying it. They know Obama and the democrats own it, and they know it isn't working as they said it would. Even Biden and Hoyer admitted it, with the same let's blame Bush bull. If unemployment hangs in above 10% through October, 2010, the 2010 elections will see a turnaround in the House and perhaps even the Senate. It's just like 1994. I smell and hear fear from the democrats on this blog, like Ed's: "Ah shut up and go back to supporting Bush's lies and corruption."

The GOP keeps trotting out all these negative people talking against the stimulus, hoping that the American people will be so stupid to listen to them and agree with what they say!!!The only thing that comes across to me is that they DO NOT want to see the economy recover!!!!!

"Jobs will be created immediately?" Obama NEVER SAID THAT.

He SAVED jobs from being cut, like teachers, firefighters, policemen, etc. That was the action of the first round of money out the door, which included tax cuts to 95% of Americans.

This stimulus works over a period of 2 years. No American stupid enough would believe Obama could create a million jobs in 4.3 months (the time since the stimulus bill was passed. It took a long time to get to this point (8 years to be exact).

Obama needs to quit holding back Spain from prosecuting Bush and his cabal. I'm tired of the GOP and their lies, negativity, and zero ideas. Those are the characteristics of a dead party (especially one that is being lead by Rush Limbaugh). These guys think America is stupid and forgetful as to who was in office for the past 8 years.

With only 11% of the stimulus spent, these democrats are clearly playing politics with American livelihoods.

The economy is probably going to turn around but only when almost all the stimulus is spread to the people and small business...which will probably be around November of 2010 just in time for the midterm elections. Meanwhile, Americans are still suffering now. The idea of the plan was good, but the implementation has been horrible. Not well planned, and not well executed.

I voted for the President, but will not do so again. His execution of this plan as our chief executive has left much to be desired. While the Democrats in Congress and the President will claim victory for this when it takes full effect, the people will have needlessly suffered from the political greed that they thought they rejected last November.

It seems that the authorized Republican line is negativity, all the time.

It's also telling that the accusations brought against Obama are precisely the errors of the previous administration. Pork-barrel spending, massive waste. Scrambling to play games with numbers. A case of the pot calling the kettle black.

How this game of accusation in the mirror can go on mystifies me. It's transparent to everyone except the people doing it.

Republicans could begin to earn a shred of dignity and recover some influence, if they would roll up their sleeves and get to work rather than digging in their hells and throwing tantrums in the media.

I am still waiting for the GOP idea on how to cure this Bush-created mess. Tax cuts won't cut it-it would make the deficit worse which is supposedly their big worry (except when George Bush, his dad, and Ray-Gun was running one up).

Oh, I see- Deficits under Republicans are okay, any left over GOP deficit or addition to the deficit under a Democrat is bad. What fantastic reasoning!

It's about time that the people in charge of our government start taking blame for some of the things they are doing that is adding to the problems inthe economy. They should also read the bills that are brought in front of them before signing the bills. It's like taking a test before you read the question.

8 years of bush and they get on Obama after 6 months. Short memories. Maybe if the Abbott and Costello of economics, bush and mcLame, would have done something except say the fundamentals of the economy are strong while the economy tanked his last 18 months in office it would not be where it is. They just hope it stays bad for political reasons.

Mr Cantor states that the Republican party have provided options that put jobs first. I've not seen them or heard of them. All I have heard is more of the same. The Obama stimulus plan has not been close to funded. Why not? That to me is a better issue to question. There was a great rush to have approval to spend the money, but it's not being spent. Lets get the money out there where it can do some good, THEN complain if it doesn't work.

Why are we talking about further stimulus when the original amounts are still in Limbo?

It seems to me that if the Republicans were smart, they would honestly try to ensure that they did everything they can to help the American peolple other than complain about everything that's being done by this administration. If it doesn't work then come back and tell me what your plan is. I feel as if we are being held hostage by the Republican Economic Terroism Theory....."do nothing to help and if it fails then the people will come back to us"...yeah right. Keep preaching fear and us Americans will remind you of how America came to be in the first place. Our determination to rise above in spite of.........you.

I don't remember President Obama promising the sun, moon and stars. I do remember him saying that the economic stituation we're in would not be resolved overnight. If the GOP thinks they can do a better job, where's the ideas. I haven't heard anything from them but constant whinning.

The reason we aren't seeing as big of a change as we hoped with the stimulus package is because greedy republican CEO's are awarding themselves millions upon millions of dollars of bail out money as bonuses rather than using it to create and/or save the thousands of jobs they were supposed to.
That problem stemmed from the Obama administration trying to adhere to the very republican value of laissez faire, or "hands-off" government regarding the economy. His administration thought that the CEO's of these giant companies would do the correct thing and spread the wealth down-a sort of trickle down economics, if you will. They didn't do the correct thing. They did the "right" thing-the right-wing thing, that is. They hoarded the money for themselves.
It goes to show you that republicans can not be trusted to do the right thing. They are selfish and greedy.

I seem to recall several weeks ago that the Republicans were supposed to come out with a budget of their own. Has anybody seen it? If so what was their plan to get this country back on it's feet again? I'm guessing more tax cuts for people like Rush Limbaugh who by the way had people lose their jobs at the company he works for as well. Perhaps if he didn't NEED the multi-million dollar contract that he signed more people could have kept their jobs.

I'm guessing that folks still wondering when the economy is going to turn around even think that maybe Sen McCain, who admitted knowing nothing about the economy, and Gov Palin, who doesn't seem to know which way is up, would have done a far better job than Obama right now. If any of the GOP moaners would care to look at President Obama's past speeches he did indeed say this would more than likely get worse before it got better, that the unemployment
numbers would go up and I never remember him saying after being in office for 7 months that everything was going to be rosy. But the only hope the GOP has is to put fear in the minds of the uniformed and so far from some of the posts I see it it's working.

Maybe the stimulus package won't work. Maybe Obama is not everything he made himself out to be. Maybe he can't or won't fix the economy during his term.

BUT, if that turns out to be the case, why the hell should we believe that the Republicans have the answers? If they did, they could have and should have used the six years when they controlled every branch of the government to fix things. But now they expect us to believe that they are the party of fresh ideas and effective solutions?

In 2012, if we're still in the same mess we're in, I would like to think that Americans will recognize that it's time for a strong third party, because by then, both of the major parties will have shown themselves to be ineffective and simply playing politics instead of finding a way out of this disastrous economy.

Obama never promised that jobs would be created immediately. He said from the beginning, even before he was inaugurated that it would take time to turn things around. He tried to get the Republicans to cooperate and all they did was say no and water the package down to include more tax cuts, which produce nothing. Cantor and Boner and the rest of them need to shut the hell up.

Before Obama took office, I recall the Bush Administration (Repubs) and Bernanke shoving down our throats a $700 B package that evaporated in weeks. The untold story is that the Repubs threw $1 trillion+ to the financial crisis BEFORE Obama took office and that money did NOTHING. Now, the $787B package (that has not fully been used) is all of a sudden the worst thing in the world and a lie. Man, I still don't understand how people really listen to Repubs. Where oh where are their ideas? BossLimbaugh is calling for Hondorus people to take over our gov't and the Repubs say nothing?? Isn't that against the law for even 'implying' a govt' coup???

Seems as though the repubs are just downright giddy that the economy is tanking, that people are out of work and suffering. Oh happy day, I bet they are planning the 10 percent unemployment bash as I speak.

Eric Cantor is a poster child for why the GOP got whipped in the last election. Jobs HAVE been created, which has led to a slowdown in the rate of employment. Apparently Mr Cantor isn't clever enough to understand that a stimulus package that averts economic Armageddon by slowing the rate of fall, is a pretty good package. Of course, it's impossible to know exactly what would have happened if nothing had been done, so Mr Cantor IS smart enough to know that he can make some political hay by criticizing the Administration for not fixing his party's disasters with a wink and a click of the heels of their magic slippers.

When the GOP stops misleading people by being disingenuous for their own political gain, maybe they can become serious as a political force. But so long as mental midgets like Eric Cantor continue to represent their leadership, the country is in for a long period of intellectual darkness.
