Politicians talk about fiscal responsibility.

How irresponsible is it for us as voters to base our decisions on who is viable as a candidate based on how much money they can raise.

We have been sold a bill of goods by the media and the two major parties that only candidates that raise hugh sums of money are viable. Whose interests are being served by this? Not yours or mine. The answer...the Democrats, the Republicans, professional campaigners and the media. The two parties remain in control, professional campaigners make huge salaries and the media can make huge amounts of revenue. All at the expense of our republican (that's republican as in republic, not Republican) form of government.

Robert poses a good question in his post.

Unless the Republicans get behind health care reform the rise in health care costs will out pace any tax increase anyway.

Heaven help a country that is in constant election mode and can only elect those who are rich or who sell their souls to corporations to run for office.

@ Robert, who asked "I Wonder, Where do these Politicians get all this Money, in this Crippled Economy?" Easy. For the GOPer base, the calculus is the following: Tax money spent on infrastructure, running the gov't and and foreign and domestic programs? BAD. After-tax money donated to PACs and campaign funds and other political crap to ensure that the GOP is in power, starting wars, perpetuating institutionalized racism and sexism, playing deregulatory chicken with the economy and fighting to end some of the civil rights ensured by the Constitution? GOOD.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Still awaiting your discourse on democratic funding or do I just assume it all on the up and up?!

tell you one thing to get elected, and then lobbyist step into the picture and good bye back bone...don't believe everything you hear or see. The people that all of these guys(dem and repub) represent always take a back seat to lobbyist and the party. Very few stand up for the common folk, most are too interested in getting reelected to keep and their pension and health insurance..MOney talks always has and always will.

Here's more the Republican Calculus:

Tax businesses until they are no longer competitive in the world; Bad.
Grow government to maximize the inefficiency of our economy: Bad.
Open world trade to maximize the upside of our economy: Good!

Toomey's ideas work. Current administration and congress are showing exactly what doesn't work. Of course he's getting a lot of contributions.

How come these so called "politicans" didn't get their panties in a knot when Bush was in and all the money going to the rich and the "war". Didn't hear them screaming then about spending, now it is "oh my god", give me a break....Seems to me that is all they have to say. Don't act so patriotic, when you and your party stamped everything ole Georgie wanted, now WE are all paying the price for stupidity at it's best....

libs, libs, libs...this is a litmus test...and the results are turning acidic for the liberal agenda of Obama....people are sick of the spending, the unnecessary taxing,....the president telling them which lightbulb they must have...all this control and power..isn't the American way, and Americans don't like being controlled. You're seeing it with these donations. The voters are speaking with their wallet now, and with their vote in 2010. Democrats will be ousted big time; not because they're democrats, but because of liberalism. It has no place in this society.

This guy is just another Republican hypocrite who has suddenly had an epiphanic moment and now embraces fiscal responsibility. His credibility would be much greater if he had not not been a disciple for the borrow and spend policies of the Bush administration.

Modern day Republicans have a strange set of morals and ethics. They also seem to be totally disconnected from reality.

@ LORI -

You're absolutely correct. However, Spector could get re-elected; anything's possible when you have ACORN on your side...since the majority of them are unemployed "volunteers," they have the time and the government stimulus money (courtesy of Obama) to muddy anyone's campaign....so, I'm sure Emanuel and the cronies are cooking something up for Spector to use.....It's getting harder and harder for the true, honest American to be heard over the corruption...I believe that's called a dictatorship or a Chicago mob boss....not sure.

@Dutch -
love the allegiance to the democratic party...however, liberalism has infested the democrats...and the American people are finally waking up and realizing that liberals, under the guise of the DNC are raping and piliging their, and their childrens future to fund entitlement goodies to the welfare hounds....and they'll continue their march to cater to legalizing illegals....ALL FOR VOTES...

You seem somewhat educated...you aren't seeing that they're reaching deep into your pockets to support those that simply are not worth supporting? Obama's rapidly falling popularity is a leading indicator of the beginning of the end...

I personally hate Pat Toomey for funding primary challenges within the party for several years as head of Club for Growth, but, Dems beware, independents don't like this spending, and people demand results from someone who promised so much. If we spend all this money, and nothing changes by September 2010, Toomey will be one of many GOPers heading to Washington.

I'm not surprise support for Toomey, the American people have MORE trust now with the GOP compared to Democrats. Out of 10 issues that are important to the American people, 8 of them goes to the GOP as the most trustworthy, even the two that goes to the Democrat (healthcare and education) is hanging by a THREAD. The American people have lost their faith with the Democratic Party especially independent voters who decides who win and lose in every election. 42% now of Americans are declaring themselves conservatives while only 27% declaring themselves are liberals. That is a BIG CHANGE that cannot be ignored. I am a Democrat but will be voting straight Republican ticket next year and will continue to do so until the last cow comes home. Last year election left a bitter taste in my mouth, from myogyny to using the race card by Democrats campaigners and supporters. As a minority, using race card to be elected in office doesn't set well with me. When pundits and democrats campaigners and supporters use sexist statements against Hillary & Sarah Palin; that doesn't set well with me. When Obama called Hillary a "whiner" that made my blood boil.

This will be interesting for the Pennsylvanian Democrats, you can choose either Sestek (who has a lot of his own baggage) or Spector (who many speculate flip-flopped to keep his job as a Democrat). Either way, you don't have much of a choice.

If Toomey wins Pennsyvania it will signal that many people are not please or happy with our current President's agenda. I am willing to bet, it will be a close race.

We need to contribute to conservatives all across the country regardless if they are running in your home state or not. The job for 2010 is to get rid of the tax and spend democrats then in 2012 get rid of the biggest spender of all time and that is obama.

@ Bob in PA

PA is known for being a blue collared, middle class state. I just don't see how a republican can sway the minds of middle class-voters that he is any different from the The Party of No senators. I will reserve my judgement about him until I hear him answer some pertinent questions such as those regarding the stimulus bill and healthcare reform.

These Republicans have No credibility with so-called "fiscal responsibility" after these past several years.

GOP's economic policies of tax cuts for the rich have proven NOT to work. "Trickle down" is simply a fallacy. Look at how exasperated this recession was as an example of voodoo economics under Bush & Republican Congress.

Can't wait to hear about his ideas, or plan, to do what he claims only Republicans can do. Lower taxes, I bet. And the deficit? Well, let's just wait and hear how he thinks that can be done any better.

@ Robert, who asked "I Wonder, Where do these Politicians get all this Money, in this Crippled Economy?"

Easy. For the GOPer base, the calculus is the following:

Tax money spent on infrastructure, running the gov't and and foreign and domestic programs? BAD.

After-tax money donated to PACs and campaign funds and other political crap to ensure that the GOP is in power, starting wars, perpetuating institutionalized racism and sexism, playing deregulatory chicken with the economy and fighting to end some of the civil rights ensured by the Constitution? GOOD.

Its funny that nobody has anything to say about Pat Toomey.. but you can sure hear a lot of "GOP sucks" "Republicans are bad" "Boo Bush". Pat Toomey is a great guy who would make a great Congressman.. Specter changed parties so he could win a re-election. It would be embarrassing if he was actually re-elected.

Dutch,

What you fail to realize is how much democratic incompetence we have had to deal with lately from out local Pa. politicians and our latest failure in Bob Casey.

Pat Toomeys an Altar Boy on the right side of taxation compared to these guys. He will be hard to beat against a has been (Specter) or the unknown (Sestak). Sestak will have to run as a conservative in order to pull this off legally..

Don't underestimate Specter. He'll beat Sestak in the Primary and then wipe the floor with Toomey in the general election.
