Palin becomes MoveOn target as SarahPAC cash haul surges

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's political action committee is confirming a flood of new donations that push her cash haul close to the million-dollar mark, as one of the nation's largest liberal PACs announced an ad targeting the former GOP vice presidential candidate.

Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton confirmed a report in the Anchorage Daily News that more than $200,000 had poured into SarahPAC since Palin's announcement a week and a half ago that she would be leaving office by the end of the month.

Those funds, along with $732,867 received through June 30 according to federal campaign finance filings, leave the governor just shy of a million dollars in donations to date since SarahPAC's January launch.

Stapleton told CNN that the PAC, which supports conservative candidates, had received contributions from more than 11,000 supporters, with the majority of the money coming from outside Alaska.

The news came as MoveOn.org began e-mailing members Tuesday, asking them to fund a rapid response ad blasting Palin's new Washington Post op-ed that criticized President Obama's position on "cap and trade" legislation - a major part of the administration's effort to overhaul the nation's energy policy.

The group said Palin was positioning herself as the face of conservative opposition to Obama's energy policy, telling supporters her op-ed was "a marvel of misinformation and outright lies."

The group has not yet said where the spot would air, or revealed the scope of any potential ad buy.

Gee for someone that a CBS poll said most 'Republicans' didn't want to run, and according to all you lib-nuts is dumber than a bag of rocks, you all sure do seem awfully scarred of lil' ol' Sarah.

If she was as insignificant as you all say she is, why is MoveOn even bothering with her? Maybe because when she says change she actually would mean it for the better, as opposed to what the current one and done seat warmer is doing.

I don't want Sarah Palin to run for office. I want her to travel around the country outing democrats for all of their lies, hypocrisy and failures and believe me, that would be a full-time job.

Stop spending money on this woman! You don't need to destroy her, she can take care of that herself–for free! It's a GOOD THING if she becomes the face of conservatism in America, because real conservatives wouldn't vote for her anyway.

And to think that some people still dubiously believe that Sarah didn't step down as Governor because it was making Alaska a progressive political target. Proving once again that there really is an idioit born every minute..

I would never have thought about voting for Palin for President, but after 6 months of obama, Sarah's not looking too bad. After all, she would be hard pressed to do worse than our current president.

Too bad it wasn't obama that quit.

I thought MoveOn.org was a democrat leaning group? If they are, why arn't they sending Sarah Palin money to run in 2012? Palin not so good for the Republicans, really good for the Democrats.

MoveOn needs to save some time for additional propoganda about Obama doing a good job as President. Skyrocketing debt and unemployment is what we get from boy wonder. In the end it looks like the President is as unqualified as his resume said he was and he could not carry water for Bill Clinton.

Some of us wondered why she wanted to get out of the cross hairs because we didn't pay much attention to the down and dirty stuff people write about her. Some of these entries are proving her point.
How can you be for free speech if you assume that you are the only ones entitled to it? Would we all want to be judged as having ghost writers just because it makes sense what she writes? If she is going to fail let the American people decide. Why presume her intentions are evil? It just shows your fear. Besides there are many kinds of intelligence. For all the C students out there (and there are a few), it is nice to see the home girl make a try at the brass ring. You have loads of time to let her fall.
Let her show us undecided what she can offer a country she loves.

  16. You lose all credibility when you say Palin is smart

    @ Leslie,

Yes, Sarah Palin remain standing......standing down from her position of office that is.

How pathetic that people support this quitter. But then again people also believe in Scientology and a bearded man who is in the sky wagging a finger at you.

Yeah, I'm scared of Sarah Palin, scared that her stupidity is as contagious as the H1N1 flu virus. And by the looks of comments from makesUwonder and southerncousin, I hit the nail right on the head.

Seriously, why do people continue to waste their money? Apparently, the economy isn't in such a bad state if a moron like Palin can get donations. Wake up people! She's an idiot, don't waste your hard-earned money.

    @ Jeff in Atlanta,

Yeah, it was Sarah Palin who quit. And that's who you want to be President?

In an alternate universe, here are the headlines: "N. Korea test fires another missle, Sarah Palin resigns as POTUS to spend her last moments with her family"

Obama is Jimmy Carter without the charming accent. America should prepare for 70% tax rates, 15% unemployment, 20% prime interest rates, weekly misery index figure updates, and the whole nine yards – that is the logical outcome of democratic policies whenever they are allowed to be implemented unimpeded.

I don't buy the "Palin = moron" theme so many leftists are pedaling with increasing desperation... but honestly a retarded chimp could do a better job as president than the current occupant of the White House (and no pun intended by the familial resemblance between the two).

Apparently there is no shortage of idiots still carrying the Palin banner as the Washington Post proved today. The media is going to keep this gutless quitter in the news in spite of the American public which voted to send her and McCain to the dustbin. We're all going to have to continue to put up with Palin for one reason and one reason only: the press. The press isn't reporting the news, they're making the news and that is a mucg greter threat to our country than anything al-queda could send our way. It's the end of democracy as we know it and corporate media will have played a key role in destroying any and all common sense left in our once great country. I'm quite certain that Ted Turner rues the day he lost control of CNN. Just look at what's become of the People's News: a Palin bandwagon.

Speaking of dumb, how about all the dumb people who believed obama was center of the road. He is losing support with now the majority seeing him as a failure at least as far as the economy goes. ABO in 2012. "Anybody but obama".
