WASHINGTON (CNN) – Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Florida, fractured her right leg and sprained her ankle as she slid into second base during the seventh inning of a charity softball event Tuesday night in Washington.

Spokesman Jonathan Beeton said the congresswoman was using crutches to make it to the House floor Wednesday to vote. The lawmaker was sporting a soft cast, which Beeton said would be replaced by a harder, more secure cast later Wednesday.

The Florida Democrat was participating in the first-ever Congressional Women's Softball Game. The event raised $41,000 to assist young breast cancer survivors.

second bases are a killer...seen first hand what an ankle looks like bent the wrong way as a result of a buddy sliding into one....someone should start a special interest group or maybe schedule a protest of second bases...

So tell us the important part – was she safe, or out?

Gotta love a woman who's willing to sacrifice her body for extra bases!

No wonder the Democrats are desperately pushing for health-care reform – they're an accident prone bunch aren't they?! Clinton, Sotermayor, Wasserman.

Thank god she didn't have Obama's plan, she'd have to wait a week or so to get her cast, lucky for her she has that $30K a year tax payer paid plan! I wish her well though!

bet she has top of line access to health care over ordinary citizens. for a woman over 40, about 44, she shouldn't be playing softball anyway. best to write out a check to charity rather than play softball at her age.
