Has Clinton been sidelined?

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delivers a major foreign policy speech and some Washington political observers ask: "Is she trying to get back in the spotlight?"

Since she slipped and broke her elbow last month, the secretary has had to cancel an international trip, and some inside-the-Beltway types are reading the tea leaves. Is it another step in the process of keeping Secretary Clinton from the real foreign policy decision-making in the Obama administration?

"The Daily Beast's" Tina Brown writes: "Left behind on major presidential trips, overruled in choosing her own staff - Hillary Clinton is the invisible woman at State."

"It's time for Barack Obama to let Hillary Clinton take off her burqa," she said.

People will pick at anything this President does and find every reason to spew their hatred and bigotry. I have never seen anything like it in my whole life. Hillary has been hurt and needed some time off. I'm glad she is taking care of herself. She has elevated herself and restored her image, thanks to President Obama giving her this chance. She is doing a great job, all jobs have their frustrations, I understand the high standards and vetting process are cumbersome; but in this administration they are necessasary. We must have faith restored that all the people hired are not just good old boy cronies, who have no experence and are not qualified to to the job; like in the last administration

Hillary accepted the position. If she really has been sidelined, it's her fault for taking the job. It's a lot more courtesy than she would have shown him if she had won.

I'm far more interested in the implication that the burqa is used here to symbolize a woman who is being degraded.

Wake up Muslim community – notice that the writer is using the Burqa to symbolize a lack of respect, and lack of identity.

Oh come on CNN. She hasn't been side-lined. And she's not "back in the limelite" any more than Condi Rice was.

Why has evereyone changed into an e-gossip, rumor, hate-inciting cable show?

Oh good heavens – miss one trip abroad and all of a sudden there are dastardly back room deals to....do what exactly? Hillary Clinton was a brilliant choice for Secretary of State, and she has been fully engaged in her duties. One thing I might add, though, she isn't supposed to be a cowgirl, making foreign policy all on her own. She was appointed by the President to publicly represent his policies.

Ummm, didn't she fall and break her elbow or something. Stop being an ass and trying to create controversy.

And to European-American and Mississippi BURNING Mike:
I rather worship someone with a complete education and command of the issues like President Obama.

We know republicans like to worship dumb asses like George Bush Jr., who can't even put a complete sentence together. Ad Sarah Palin, an imbacile who can't stay on ANY job. Plus she can't even think for herself. Just like the last republican who STOLE the white house.

  9. Great Point!

From another perspective, the writer is absolutely correct in suggesting the Burqa is a custom that positions women as second-class citizens.

A big shame that this is happening in this century when we have women leadership everywhere.

  10. Hillary...you betcha

And she will rise..! As soon a Sarah Palin appeared on the national scene in 2008 the media and the hateful pundits actually saw right off that here another woman who has what it takes to be a leader and therefore she too had to be destroyed with all the ridicule they could muster as the saw that Sarah was a threat to their plan , namely to get Obama elected as President at all costs for reasons the public was not privy to. But time will tell...! And Sarah Palins' destiny will be hers to become a great leader and President of these United States of America.

She will put the broken country together again...and that is the Gospel Truth...come hell or high water....!!!!

You are certainly right. Except that I would never discredit the True Messiah. That is why I put it in quotes and lower case. I am a true American too, but I do like a bit of sarcasm and since hyphenating seems to be good for some, wise white men ought to be able to benefit from there own experiences in life. I feel as a wise white man I have a greater ability to make the decision to hyphenate, more so say than a latina woman.
Just for you I will now refer to P-Bo as "the untouchable one".

She should have never taken the job in his administration. She should have run against him in 2012, maybe by then you Democrats would have realized she was the better choice over Obama.

hillary has been sidelined, and if she keeps taking shots at obama, she may find herself without the platform from which she speaks.

she serves at his pleasure -elections (in this case primaries) have consequences.

Tina Brown needs to be quiet.....She should be thankful that her mediocre blog is getting any attention. Hillary is recovering from a broken elbow......Others were filling in for her while she was on the mend.....President Obama doesn't think any less of her now than he did when he selected her.....Mindless people grope in the dark for invisible objects.....

nothing better than looking for a fire where there is very little smoke. As outspoken as SOS Clinton is I'm sure she would be the first to let you know if she were being sidelined. Just like some won't give President Obama a chance after just 7 months, Mrs. Clinton has only been SOS for the same time period. For God's sake people Rome wasn't built in a day and a new administration wasn't built in 7 months.

Hillary needs to be taked out of the capacity of Secretary of State. I'll never understand why Obama offered it to her in the first place.

Hillary is as arrogant and delusional as her husband. If she really believes she's been "chosen" (her messiah complex) it shows how delusional she is.

On her trip to China she expressed that "human rights take a back seat to economic matters", thus losing her credibility with the Chinese. Are you kidding, the way we preach human rights in this country. She probably thought she was pulling something over on them.

I wish Hillary were half as smart as she thinks she is.

Obama is the manchurian candidate. The "political machine" told him to keep his friends close and his enemies closer; that is why Hillary is his SOS. Clinton works for him and would have been a lot more effective and powerful in the senate (she also would have been a threat to Obama). Bet she is kicking herself now.

Kevin, left-wing dictator? You and the Fox Cronies can get a life. Clinton is doing a good job as S.O.S. but right now her injury is causing a slow progress. Give her time to heal!

Of course she has been sidlined but watch out for Bill Clinton if this continues, it wouldn't take much for him to go against Obama if he coninues to leave Hillary out of the loop. I think Hillary got this job because Bill pressed Obama to ensure she got a top job, it was after that meeting between Bill and Obama that Bill agree to campaign for Obama, I believe he wanted a pay back for his efforts to help Obama get elected, now Obama is reversing himself once again.

When are people going to stop being so hateful. Secty of State Hillary Clinton is doing a great job doing what she is doing. She knows her
importance and knows the job that she intends to get done. Give her the credit she is due. BEST OF EVERYTHING MRS. CLINTON

Some people just love mess! Hillary lost her bid for presidency and chose to take the job as SOS vs. returning to the senate. That was her option from President Obama and her choice to do so. She is doing great and I doubt very seriously that he is trying to pin her down or hold her back, because quite frankly Hillary can't be held back. POTUS has a lot on his plate and stalking Hillary to stay on the sidelines is probably not on his to do list. I agree with Marcus regarding the 'Messiah" comment. Do you people see something besides a great leader who really cares about his family and country and want to serve to try and make America better for all people? I know most have gotten so use to the opposite, but Messiah is a title he did not ask for, but rather has been bestowed upon him, by ignorant people. I am sure there is some frustrations on Hillary part, but she will do just fine and be just fine!

Hellooooo...she broke her arm and couldn't do certain things. Yikes, what a tempest in a teapot. As if HRC could ever be sidelined...and by the way?....she's delivering a major policy address in Washington tonight.

You journalist types, and those of you fixated on hating Obama need to get over your bad selves, and do and write things that actually matter. You cleary have too much free time on your hands for pinheaded questions and answers.

Take of her burqa...what an insult to Muslim custom and religion.

Last time I checked, the POTUS...no matter who it is...is allowed to do some foreign travel and to meet with other heads of state.

Hilary is not being sidelined. All of this talk is an attempt by some people to stir controversy between Obama and Hilary. They're both team players. Hilary was immediately on trips abroad paving the way for the new administration foreign policy change as soon as she stepped in office.
Give the woman a break, she had an accident. Off course she has to slow down a bit.

I for one am thankful for her contributions to the country. Like her or not, don't deny someone credit when it's due.

I believe in her patriotism and professionalism.
And I do believe Barrack knows that about her.

To the media, stop this nonsense. The administration has way too many problems to resolve than get side tracked on childish issues.

    Grow up.
