Has Clinton been sidelined?

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delivers a major foreign policy speech and some Washington political observers ask: "Is she trying to get back in the spotlight?"

Since she slipped and broke her elbow last month, the secretary has had to cancel an international trip, and some inside-the-Beltway types are reading the tea leaves. Is it another step in the process of keeping Secretary Clinton from the real foreign policy decision-making in the Obama administration?

"The Daily Beast's" Tina Brown writes: "Left behind on major presidential trips, overruled in choosing her own staff - Hillary Clinton is the invisible woman at State."

"It's time for Barack Obama to let Hillary Clinton take off her burqa," she said.

Hilary is doing exactly what she needs to do - getting work done without being a distraction or embarassing her office and/or the President. The same people mouthing off about her invisibility will also be front and centre in criticizing her for tring to hug the limelight. Keep up the good. We the people are paying attention.

She's delivering a major foreign policy speech. It seems she is trying to do the job of the Secretary of State. It has little to do with being in the "spotlight."

Fla. says "Hillary Clinton is doing a great job as Secretary of State, as I confidently knew she would."

I agree. It is just as good as the job being done by lt. governors in Mass., NY, and AK after the incumbents moved up. In fact, based on what I haven't seen in the papers, and where Obama's poll numbers are going on international issues (with americans, not europeans), I'd say she is doing a fantastic job. She should keep up the good work.

She's not sidelined. She's always worked behind the scenes, but that doesn't take away from the fact that she's a workhorse. Women like her keep this country running. Lord, I can only imagine how much work she's busy doing at State, just like she did behind the scenes at Rose Law firm and for her husband's gubernatorial bid. You go girl!

"Trying to get back in the spotlight?" I thought it was her job to deliver major foreign-policy speeches....

That is absurd! She broke her elbow and had to have surgery! Are people really that hard up for conspiracy theories? She hasn't been sidelined, much of her job involves behind the scene negotiations with other country’s leaders. Saying she needs to take off her burqa is just offensive, a juvenile attempt at being controversial.

you all are so ridiculous. Consideracy for her injury, is what my President is doing. Don't you have any thing else to do. Go to school, get a job. I'm at work...

Besides the difficulties continue, so one person can't stop the show.

    Obama is...all that.

If you don't like the white house, go to another country. That was my plan if Palin would have gotten in......

This is great, the internal battle for democratic superiority! Which left wing radical will win? Our illustrious Usurper in Chief or the Queen of the Scorned? For those old enough to have lived through the sixties, do you remember those nuts that were out protesting and rioting and bombing in the Days of Rage? They cleaned up and are now in control of our government!

Hillary lost credibility when she left the Senate to sign on with the one who promotes self-idolatry. :(

Can she regain her chutzpah is the question?

What good is any secretary's position, if the freedom to express own opinion is not there.

If she were an integral part of the administration, she would have been involved in the recent treaty extension with Russia. Shouldn't our Constitutional Scholar have brought that treaty back to the Senate for ratification? Maybe there's a slight distinction between student and scholar and our pres is actually the former instead of the latter since a student can't be held accountable as a master of their area of study.

Hillary is doing a fine job and is a wonderful team player. She is easily the smartest, toughest, woman in politics right now. Can't wait for the day media pundits are discarded. Their opinions are paid for makeing them nothing more the partisan manipulation.

You bet she has. She's a HUGE threat to the Obamanation, because she doesn't just toe the socialist line put forth by the supreme beloved ruler.

Why did Hillary take this job? It was obvious in the campaign and elsewhere that the two do not share foreign policy views and approaches. Hillary is not an appeaser. She is tougher than that. Obama doesn't want to let her toughness show because it will make him looker weak. But his own actions accomplish that end.

Oh for gods sakes. She had surgery and needed time to recover. She hasn't been "sidelined". Stop inventing stuff that doesn't exist.

The Daily Beast? Isn't that an extreme right-wing publication? That's what they do! They look for ways to stir up as much garbage and controversy as they can against the Dems.

Don't believe the hype people! Don't believe the hype!

  21. RNC = DNC = politics as usual

@Marcus. "He has never referred to himself as one, nor do we refer to him as one."

I think Louis Farrakhan kicked off the term Messiah first, then there was a long line of celebreties and others calling him Savior, The One, and other things. Long list – easy to google to verify.

When he just smiled and didn't correct anyone he was using it in his campaign. Obama is not stupid. That was tacit approval – classic.

Anybody who knows anything about anything knows it would be wise to keep Clinton on a short leash. She is dangerous. I am disappointed that Obama even made her Secretary of State in the first place. The whole reason I voted for Obama was because I didn't want the Clintons in power. And then he went and gave her power, after she lost. The first of several bad decisions, which he is continuing to make.

She is by far NOT being sidelined!

Plus the fact that I am sure that Obama does not want her to run against him in 2012. Which by the way, I would truly like to see her as our next President. Either in 2012 or 2016.

Hillary and Bill are both power hunger and it won't be long before she comes out swinging. Neither of them are willing to play second fiddle to anyone, even to Obama. Just sit back, wait and watch the fireworks!!!!!
