Kerry: Palin should check out 'the view from her front porch'

Sen. Kerry is defending the president's cap-and-trade energy plan against criticism by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Sen. Kerry is defending the president's cap-and-trade energy plan against criticism by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Call it Kerry vs. Palin, Round 2.

Massachusetts Democrat Sen. John Kerry, a longtime Obama ally, and Alaska's Republican Gov. Sarah Palin are sparring again, this time over climate change and energy policy.

Kerry has taken to liberal Web site The Huffington Post to respond to an op-ed by Palin published Tuesday in the Washington Post.

In her op-ed, Palin slams President Obama's cap-and-trade energy plan, saying she believes the plan is "an enormous threat to our economy."

In his response, Kerry takes a dig at Palin in an apparent reference to Tina Fey's "I can see Russia from my house" take-off on Palin.

"The global climate change crisis threatens our economy and our national security in profound ways," writes Kerry.

"Governor Palin need no look further than the view from her front porch in Alaska to see how destructive this crisis can be," says Kerry, pointing to a two-year-old New York Times report about a small Alaskan village facing destruction because of melting permafrost.

Kerry also takes issue with Palin's focus on the likely economic consequences of Obama's plan. "Reading Gov. Palin's op-ed too often it sounds like the only threats America faces are solely economic. But that's not what our intelligence experts and military leaders tell us," writes Kerry.

Kerry also says Palin is "wrong" about the job creation projected to occur under Obama's plan and about the fact that the plan will yield "new, clean energy sources."

The two pols sparred nearly three weeks ago when Kerry reportedly joked that it was Palin – rather than South Carolina's Republican Gov. Mark Sanford – who should have gone missing. In her counter-attack, Palin took a swing at the senator's face: "... [T]he way he said it, he looked quite frustrated, and he looked so sad, and I just wanted to reach out to the TV and say, 'John Kerry, why the long face?'" she joked.

Kerry is such an idiot. He still is upset he didnt win! He would be nothing if it wasn't for his rich wife. Why don't you just go back in show business and play Frankenstein. You definitely would have the part.

Come out with your own alternative solutions while running your mouth on crticising the President. Go!! Follow the footsteps of your mentor Statesman and Senator McCain of Arizona.
You have not yet graduated from learning from him.

Why does this article deflect Palin's comment on seeing russia from her home as a Tina Fey creation, Tina Fey merely reported ad verbatim the exact words Palin spoke. Palin also said Putin's head emerges over the horizon. Look it up. Palin is a cook with a few screws loose.

As "The Guardian of the Northern Frontier" she says that she's able to see Russia from her front porch. Then, why can't she see what ails Alaska?

I reckon that's because she's now "The Great Quitter from the Northern Frontier" and could care less about Alaskans!

Who'd want John "Swiftboat," Kerry as an ally? CNN – you're scraping the bottom of the barrel here with your Palin-bashing attempt...

Kerry has absolutely nothing good to show for himself, so his endorsement doesn't mean squat....

If kerry was still in the military I wonder if he would still be wounding himself and signing his own purple heart certificate. Anything this moron says, believe the opposite.

John Kerry, like so many in congress who declare their support for addressing the "global climate crisis" always fall back on the NIMBY solution when pressed for their states sacrifice or real participation.

Kerry should just keep his fat mouth shut. The man backstabbed his fellow soldiers, threw his medals away (medals which were obtained by somewhat cowardly methods – 3rd Purple Heart for getting shot in the backside).

The day when the Dems are voted out of power cannot come soon enough.

Hey, here's an interesting sidenote. All of these freaks who protested the war in Iraq, Code Pink, Jeanine Garafalo, Sean Penn, etc. Where are all the protests about war being wrong and soldiers dying in Afghanistan? Oh, that's right. It was their poster child who gave the order.

How bout all you libs and whiners leave America and let it get back to being the great country it was before you got your hands on it?

Palin's higher purpose was to shill for the oil industry? Good work Sarah, stay true to your complete lack of knowledge and ethics. Having said that, could we not get someone more charismatic than Kerry to respond?

Oh John McCain. What hast thou wrought? It boggles the mind that Sarah Palin's Op Eds get air time at the expense of so many who know what they're talking. Wake up folks. This woman is an idiot.

Kerry has no credibility....he's another fork tounged politician who espouses global warming but does nothing more than talk about it. I'm sure he drives an hybrid, flys commercial and his home(s) are all green. Not! If you all haven't figured it out Global warming, CAP and Trade is nothing more than money a maker for politicians, corporarions and special interests. The real losers are the folks who work for a living and pay taxes. Oh and as far as working for a living if Cap and Trade is enacted, jobs will be lost. Company's will move operations overseas to countries who don't have such onerous laws. 15 to 20 years from now there will be virtually no industrial base in the US. So you Labor guy's ought to rethink your support of the "green" agenda.

Global and Warming are Big and hard words for Sara to comprehend. I realize that with her extensive mind capacity , that one woudn't think that she has a comprehension problem. Even with a Liberal Arts Degree from the University Of Idaho( and in ONLY seven years)...she still cannot understand big words. Wonder how she does in math, science and economics ???? Oh I forgot compared to most of her supporters she would be considered brilliant.

  21. Why the long face?

Look at that botoxed mug of Kerry in the picture, his long face is as phony as his "political" career as he has ZERO accomplishments as a Senator.

He never wrote a bill on his own and only has ridden the coattails of Kennedy for over 20 years and you fools almost made him President based on his "reporting for duty" while you same fools dismissed a real hero who didn't run home when given the chance.

I served far longer than this coward, make me President.

Your polls are going down in Mass "Liveshot", and I look forward to campaigning against ANYONE that opposes you.

No fan of Palin here, but she HAS run a business, a CITY and a STATE, you can only run your mouth and gold dig on the backs of great people like Senator John Heinz.

Polar bears eat baby seals, folks.
We will have a beautiful green world and with that beautiful green world, we will need CO2 to keep all that plant life alive. What then?
Does anyone else see alot of politicians making money off this?
We are going to do all this "green" stuff and none of it will matter when communist China calls us on our debt. When America becomes a province of China we will become a smoke bellowing environmental disaster.

'Why the long face?' is this the asinine level to which Palin's politics descend (or have they RISEN to this acute observational form?).
