Kerry: Palin should check out 'the view from her front porch'

Sen. Kerry is defending the president's cap-and-trade energy plan against criticism by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Sen. Kerry is defending the president's cap-and-trade energy plan against criticism by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Call it Kerry vs. Palin, Round 2.

Massachusetts Democrat Sen. John Kerry, a longtime Obama ally, and Alaska's Republican Gov. Sarah Palin are sparring again, this time over climate change and energy policy.

Kerry has taken to liberal Web site The Huffington Post to respond to an op-ed by Palin published Tuesday in the Washington Post.

In her op-ed, Palin slams President Obama's cap-and-trade energy plan, saying she believes the plan is "an enormous threat to our economy."

In his response, Kerry takes a dig at Palin in an apparent reference to Tina Fey's "I can see Russia from my house" take-off on Palin.

"The global climate change crisis threatens our economy and our national security in profound ways," writes Kerry.

"Governor Palin need no look further than the view from her front porch in Alaska to see how destructive this crisis can be," says Kerry, pointing to a two-year-old New York Times report about a small Alaskan village facing destruction because of melting permafrost.

Kerry also takes issue with Palin's focus on the likely economic consequences of Obama's plan. "Reading Gov. Palin's op-ed too often it sounds like the only threats America faces are solely economic. But that's not what our intelligence experts and military leaders tell us," writes Kerry.

Kerry also says Palin is "wrong" about the job creation projected to occur under Obama's plan and about the fact that the plan will yield "new, clean energy sources."

The two pols sparred nearly three weeks ago when Kerry reportedly joked that it was Palin – rather than South Carolina's Republican Gov. Mark Sanford – who should have gone missing. In her counter-attack, Palin took a swing at the senator's face: "... [T]he way he said it, he looked quite frustrated, and he looked so sad, and I just wanted to reach out to the TV and say, 'John Kerry, why the long face?'" she joked.

Let me say this, the cap and trade bill has been stalled in the senate because republicans have been made aware of a study done by the EPA that shows that co2 is not a factor in climate change and that the polar ice caps have been thickening not thinning. To top it off the Obama Whitehouse and the EPA tried to cover this report up and discredit the 30 year EPA scientist that founded the study. I TRIED PUBLISHING THIS POST ONCE ALREADY AND CNN TOOK IT DOWN. I TRY TO GET THE WORD OUT AND THEY SUPPRESS THE TRUTH.

Palin's energy plan is all out windfall profits for Exxon in Alaska. She would sacrifice our grandchildren's energy needs for a few years of big profits now.
Regardless of the vire from her front door, this person can't see past her own face. And she wants to travel the country debating 'policy matters'?? That will be funnier than most reality shows!

I beg to differ with some here....Kerry has a long distinguished career in the military and the congress, regardless of what the trumped-up Swiftboat claims were....those were proven false so get over it. Palin was basically a mayor in a one bear town, and governor of a state with a population less than a Los Angeles suburb till she QUIT EARLY!

" kerry forgot people have a right to disagree with about the stimules plan he does not have to worry since he married the heiress to heinz,"

Let's not forget the $250,000.00 in clothes and jewelry John McCain's wife wore the night he accepted the nomination. Three people ratteled off the designers and what they charge. I guess McCain doesn't have to worry about the stimulus.

if sarah is so wrong, why all the time and effort to discredit her? she's looking more and more right every day and the left can't stand the fact that we are all not zombies that take their every word for gospel. i disagree with Palin on some things, but she doesn't say things just to kiss our butts and make us like her, she's real and that is enough for me to listen to what she has to say. Kerry's also the guy who thinks our troops are uneducated right? and he's the one who married for money right? of course he can't stand Sarah, she supports our troops and doesn't have her spouse's bank account to rely on

You people are hopeless. I have actually held up for the American people stating that sooner or later you will all understand and know that Global warming is just a money scam, a way to tax you more and create rules and regulations that destroy our country.

I'm thinking I'm wrong, you just will never learn until you have lost everything. I have lost confidence, wether your a liberal, republican or whatever....I just thought surely Americans have their OWN brains and can think for themselves. I guess not.

Where are the idependent people who love America ? Please don't believe a word you hear from any politician or any media. They are lying to you and withholding information that would change your mind.

I appreciate the desire to take care of our planet, but I think this global warming thing has gone too far. Sure, we can limit emissions from vehicles to help things out some, but 2 of the biggest sources of global warming seem to be out of our grasp: the Sun and volcanos. Why don't we just ask the almighty President and his cronies to turn the Sun down a few notches and plug up all the volcanos. Good grief people. There are more important things (that we can actually deal with ourselves) to worry about. Liberal idiots.

Man is not important enough to control the earth's climate. The earth has been heating up and cooling down since the beginning of time.

The ice core samples pulled from Alaskan glaciers last winter showed there was more carbon dioxide when the glaciers were forming than is in the atmosphere today, and I don't think the cavemen caused that.

This global warming issue is a big farce and scare tactic. The only ones benefiting from this are the politicians and their contibuting cronies who are well invested in making the changes (think Pelosi & her husband who are heavily invested & stand to make a lot of money off of this). The losers are you and I who will pay through the nose for our energy use.

NO to Cap & Trade and all this other crap that is in the name of "saving our planet". By the way, what are we going to do with all the mercury that is in the mandatory energy saving light bulbs?????

Check the Southern himisphere...... You will find the ice is expanding faster than loss in the northern hemisphere. They don't tell you that. The earths core is cooling, they don't tell you that. The earth has been cooling for a few years and will continue to cool until 2030, they don't tell you that.

What they will tell you..... They'll claim victory in a couple years saying what they pushed into law is already working against global warming and we are making a difference we are now cooling. Lies, Lies, Lies

And these people are the ones we trust to tell us the truth and run our country? What a joke.

If you tell a room full of people that it's dark outside, and I look out the window and see a blue, sunny sky, I'm gonna call you on it whether you like it or not!

Unfortunately, there are people who will follow Sara Palin were ever she goes, regardless of the harm it does to our country. Cap and trade should have happened a long time ago, to make the worst polluters pay for their crimes, or clean up their processes. President Bush eliminated any penalties, or oversight, for these huge poluters. Republicans are always for big business over anything else. Even the health and welfare of our citizens. I don't understand why people can not see that and continue to vote against their own best interests. I guess it's a religious thing. We should be very careful that we don't end up like these other countries who are run by religions. They are the most brutal, least open minded governments; and they do not allow their people any freedom, to have an optioion, different than the governments. I fear, that is where politicians like Sara Palin, would take us.

You hit the nail on the head, Dale. Gore and his groupies and the government sponsered scientists were already busted for lying to congress in October by using false data to support their global warming scam.

Sooo, Kerry refers to intelligence experts and reports when contradicting Palin's nonsense, yet I didn't see one reference to expert scientific or economic opinions in Palin's op-ed...shocker...it was all ideological mumbo-jumbo.

I'll take opinions from MIT scientists and other experts over the ideological "this is the way the world is SUPPOSED to work" ramblings of Boehner, Palin and the rest of the banana bunch anyday. I'll give you this clue for free: ideology does not determine reality, rather, empirical evidence should inform ideology.

"The global climate change crisis threatens our economy and our national security in profound ways," writes Kerry."

First off this is nothing more than another money grabbing scheme by the democrats using global warming as an excuse to steal us blind.

Two.. If we listen to the climate change nuts like Kerry, we will be force to cut back on our industrial outputs while China, India and just about every other country push ahead with their industries and out produce us. Why don't we just go back to growing cotton and corn by hand and singing Kumbaya in the dark?

Palin is a coward and punk. She blames the media, resigns with no questions asked. THEN, she invites the media to be even more evasive. Does she take credit for any of her self inflicted damage. The media is just standing there with a camera recording a train wreck.

She keeps posting on her sight. Come out of your comfort zone and have some courage.
