WASHINGTON (CNN) - Senate Republicans will not attempt to filibuster the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to become the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice, a Republican senator said Wednesday.
"You will get that up-or-down vote on the Senate floor," Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said to Sotomayor on the third day of her confirmation hearing by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Cornyn and other Republicans on the committee have criticized Democratic filibusters of previous judicial nominees by Republican presidents. The Democratic filibusters prevented a full vote by the Senate.
Facing a filibuster-proof 60 Senate seats in the Democratic caucus, Republicans have said they expect Sotomayor to be confirmed by the full chamber.

What, no "nucular" option this time? Republicans know they do not have the votes against a well-qualified nominee, and some of their members could likely vote in favor of Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
Those same repubs grilling her helped along with bush and cheyney to destroy this country and they want to crucify her over a simple statement she made. Wow, just wow!

What scares you most about that...the taxes they will be contributing once they become citizens or the fact that they'll be entitled to minimum wage so they won't be able to "take jobs away from the 'real' Americans" by undercutting on wages?

That's right Republican fools! Eat it! You KNOW that you idiots cannot stop her from being nominated so you have NO choice but to bend over and take it. She WILL be our next Supreme Court justice and she will steer the court back to the left. Just as it should be.
Uggh. As an independent, I find it frustrating that the two parties will fight to the death (and eventually become polarized into inaction) over the subjects that could most benefit Americans, in general, meanwhile, they lay down and quit whenever it's something that warrants real, in depth consideration.
Dems were right to filibuster several of GWB's appointments, and conversely, the GOP needs to do the same with Sotomayor. These SCOTUS appointments are too important.
Maybe this woman is the right candidate, but I, for one, am in no way convinced that she will not attempt to legislate from the bench, as of yet. She may not have a voluminous history of doing so, but the few cases and public comments in question are enough to warrant continued debate.
I see all the GOP aliases are in full force today.
It doesn't matter what the GOP does or doesn't do. Sotomayor is a shoe-in. Kudo's to her for maintaining her cool during these hearings.
A fillibuster would ensure the GOP shrinks to even less than the current freak show constituency of conspiracy theorist and right wing america hating nut cases.
So go ahead and please fillibuster, I dare ya..........

That's really funny, but WRONG. It's called, GOP knows they cannot stop the inevitable so they have no choice and don't want to risk angering the hispanic voting bloc. Nice try tho.
The GOP is absolutely, unequivocally impotent to stop the appointment so perhaps reality is finally setlling in with the likes of Sen. Cornyn.
Republicans have no one to blame but themselves for the imminent Filibuster-proof Senate. Its too bad the Democrats don't have a viable party to challenge their agenda. All the Republicans can do is complain, insult people and drive a wedge through this country. Wake up, Conservatives and challenge the Democrats with viable alternatives to our country's problems. You need to help find the best solutions that work for as many Americans as possible and stop worrying about your 2010 and 2012 prospects.
GOP knows that filibustering wont do them any good with the latino votes in future elections.
