Chair of S.C. Dems responds to Sanford's Op-ed

Carol Fowler, Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, issued the following statement about the Gov. Mark Sanford's Op-ed:

"Mark Sanford's vague apology in Sunday's papers is fine as far as it goes, but he doesn't say what he's apologizing for. Turning his back on the people of SC? Abandoning his family? Dumping his responsibilities for weeks? Or 6 1/2 years of ignoring our public schools and the children in them? When my children were small and had to say they were sorry I always made them specify what the apology was for, to be sure they knew. Does Governor Sanford know?"

    To Mark Sanford I say:

I am sick and tired of your apologies regarding your affair. Quit wasting our precious time and get on to your elected responsibilities and do something about our employment – or lack thereof – here in South Carolina.

After 8 months of being out of work – my husband has put an ad on Craigslist that he would work FREE for a month – just to get his foot in the door someplace – to no avail. In my eyes, this is very sad for a man who is an honest hard worker, who is a college graduate with years of experience, to come to this point. What are you doing to try to help us? The people of South Carolina could care less about your "soul mate" and/or your reconcilliation with your wife – we are concerned about feeding our families and keeping a roof over our heads. Either start doing your job or get out!

Something is not right with this guy Mark Sanford. Maybe he have bipolar or u can say tripolar I don't know, but all I know is that he should resign. Let somebody else take over. U see that is hard because they think the Lt govern is gay. The Republican will never let the Lt govern take over, u know how the Republicans are anti- gay, if u know what I mean.

To Ken in Gainesville: The school system in SC is no worse than most southern schools. The blame starts at home. Though our tax dollars do go to the education system, we (parents) must take the blunt of some of the blame. My two sisters and I grew up in SC and graduated from schools in SC. We all have degrees and very good paying jobs. One of my sisters is working on her second master's. I will retire from the military in a few years as a senior enlisted. Another one of my sisters holds a leadership position with (not in) the NC correctional system. My mother made sure that we received a good education in and out of the SC school systems. So while we would like to blame the governor and other politicians, we should first look in the mirror. What are you doing to make the school systems better for your granddaughter?

As for Gov. Sanford, he has to answer to a higher power. We have all done things of which we should be ashamed. The only difference is that we are not in the public light. I will not be his judge and jury. I really just want to get back to the business at hand and work on making the SC school system better for our children.

So is this comment C-Street's approved news release from Sanford this week? Why is Sanford claiming moral 'Christian' superiority as a policy platform while he is an active member of the C-Street cult?

Sanford is a whining, sniveling ,lying, hypocrite .He is as disingenuous as is possible.I think he should get two big rocks ,one in each hand and smash his own head. It would be alot more entertaining to observe.

Sanford needs to do the same as he suggested with Clinton when he was parading his moral superiority – QUIT!!!

As a South Carolina resident, I find it appalling that the Democrats have done nothing themselves to help fix the situation of our schools (especially since the superintendent of education is a Democrat), and take advantage of his affair by playing politics and furthering their socialist agenda which has no merit in a very red state. Democrats are very outnumbered here and their policies lack traction and direction, and as usual they rather play politics then help the people of South Carolina themselves.

Buy the book "The Family" that is out about C STREET.

C STREET, which Sanford is a member of, believes that he and his fellow C STREET brothers like Senator Ensign and Chip Pickering are entittled to commit adultery and not worry about little poor people.

I agree, the state of SC has to be ashamed of this clown.

Repugs are so concerned about the "empathy" of Sotomayor, who has led a very circumspect life. And yet they ask us to "empathize" with and forgive a man whio tosses aside his duties to fly to argentina for "love", while married to another woman. By their own standards, we must reject Mark Standfard and require justice and not mercy, which requires him to step down. Repugs demand empathy just fine when it suits THEM apparently.

You hit it right on the nose. Republicans talked about Empathy like is was a bad word. HYPOCRITES!

The main stream media was the biggest cheerleader for the war in Iraq because of the profit-driven culture.
Now the same media is brow-bitten the health care debate for a failure.
The American people continue to loose in the process.
American people should open their eyes and support the president in his effort to reform the health care. it is broken and need to be fixed.

Republicans used to love this guy? I think the GOP needs a complete and absolute moral overhaul, especially after hearing about that cult on C street that so many of them belong to.

It's time for you Democrats to stand some ground; he should be forced to resign...thar is what the people of SC really deserve. Then Sanfoprd can back his bags and head to Argentina now rather than later because there's no doubt that's where he really wants to be.
Sorry Mrs. Sanford you are deluding yourself!

Good for Carol. Some of us here in SC never voted for this man. He has done nothing for this state, and now he has shamed us all. As for his supporters who keep bringing up democrats and Bill Clinton to defend his actions..Democrats never run on a christian " I am better than you" platform. Sanford is a hypocrite and his apology is not accepted by this resident of South Carolina.

  19. obama polls slipping

clearly obama's polls are slipping. CNN is adding more smoke to obama's crap!

obama is screwing up America and CNN wants us to focus on Sanford.

Why not focus on the multiple lawsuits challenging obama's US citizenship.
How about the fact that 16 states now have unemployment at >10%?
How about CA issuing IOU's and shutting down the government?
How about the biased reporting by the lamestream media?
How about the fact that Fox News holds 10 of the TOP 10 cable news programs in prime news coverage?
How about an update on Spitzer and his lost gay love affair?
How about the fact that more Americans call themselves conservative than in many recent years?
How about the fact that there are NO negative news pieces about dems in CNN, EVER?

    Need I continue.

obama screws up America and CNN does all they can to hide the facts!

Mark Sanford is NO DIFFERENT that ANY "womanizer" who crossed the line! In my opinion, he has a "sexual addiction", just like any other man who cannot keep himself from cheating! So, even if he is "so sorry", and even if he were to get professional counselling for this problem, I would suggest that he will be a "repeat offender", and it won't be long before we will hear the same thing has happened AGAIN!! And on some level, the woman in Argentina KNEW BETTER, but also chose to allow this affair to progress! Just like Adam and Eve in the garden - "the forbidden fruit" was eaten, and the rest is history for every Christian believer! We are ALL SINNERS who can only be saved by God's Amazing Grace!!

The truth be known, Gov. Sanford doesn't really think he owes an apology to the people of SC.

  22. brainless liberals all around

notice how many people here actually think this article is relevant.

Any liberals ever think to question why CNN ONLY reports news on republicans?

And the liberals just line up to follow the lead from CNN, without questioning their motive.

Seriously, watch the coverage by CNN. It's ONLY negative news about the GOP. If there isn't any, they make something up. For example, recently CNN paparazzi went to Alaska to interview Johnston to get dirt on Palin. He took the bait, made about $500, and gave his opinion. Then, CNN brainless sheep follow along and blog more criticism of Palin – right on que.

    Hey liberals, QUESTION AUTHORITY!

God must be getting sick of being dragged into these Republican fiascos. Any time a Republican gets caught cheating on his wife, tapping his feet in the men's room or coming on to congressional pages, they invoke God.

    Several things, Gov.

Please don't try to include me in your silly ideas of Godfigures somehow being real, especially as it concerns my personal behavior being the business of an entity that exists only in your mind.

I will no more have to answer to anyone's diaphanous deity than I would the Ice Cream Man.

    Please grow up.

    You're an embarrassment.

If "God" really cared, he/she would have put sand in the Vaseline, and not made you wait for your beatdown until the "end".

If anyone could use a good smiting from their Imaginary Friend, it is you.

    Get it yet?
