WASHINGTON (CNN) - As President Barack Obama begins a week full pushing for health care reform, a new national poll indicates the president is slipping on the issue.
Forty-nine percent of people questioned in an ABC News/Washington Post survey released Monday approve of the way Obama is handling health care. That's down four points from last month and down nine points from April. Forty-four percent disapprove, up five points from June and 15 points from April.
The ABC News/Washington Post poll is the third national survey to suggest that the president's approval rating on health care reform is under 50 percent, joining a CBS News poll and a Quinnipiac University survey.
The new poll indicates Obama still has a large advantage over Republicans on the issue. Fifty-four percent of those questioned say they trust Obama to do a better job handling health care than Republicans in Congress, with 34 percent putting more faith in Congressional Republicans than the president.
The ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted July 15-18, with 1,001 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.
He might be dropping on HCR popularity, but rest asure that ALL Dems & ALL Republicans are also slipping even worse. We know that he did not create these problems and we will not forget that the GOP and many Dems screwed the economic pooch for the last 20 years. So for those politicians that think his failure is cute, please understand that your inability to roll up your sleaves and help him help us will be the seeds that culminate into your own demise.
Take your time President Obama you don't need to do everything in one year. You said that this is "the worst economic recession, since the depression" and have already spend over a trillion dollars. Don't add another Trillion to a Universal Health Care Plan, then pay for it by taxing the rich during a time of economic uncertainty. Taxing my employer more is only going to force him to lay me off to save money. Cool it with the Health Care the Economy and War in Afghanistan are far too important.
A clean bill, with reasonable provisions could clear congress, and the American people, with no problem. We all want health care costs controlled, and we all want those less fortunate to have access to care. The health care industry would get behind it as well. The problem will be the same as it was with the stimulus package. Our representatives will hang all kinds of useless issues on this bill – it will end up being thousands of pages addressing all kinds of things we don't need. What a terrible shame for our country!
I love how Obama's supporters he's only been in there six months. If he has been in there six minutes, six months,or six years, people don't like his policy proposals. You don't give someone that's driving down the wrong road more of a chance to get lost. You turn him around before its too late.
When a Republican is in the White House again, watch how long Democrats will give him. There will be none of that "give him a chance" nonsense, I bet you.
Fair and balanced taxation is completely American.
Letting the wealthy buy their way to a complete lack of responsibility to the country that gave them the opportunity to get rich in the first place is third-world, despotic, corrupt dictatorship in a nutshell.
Asking the wealthy of this country, who enjoy so much because of this country's natural and human resources, to pay a little more (39% – which is what they paid under Reagan – as opposed to the 36% they pay now) is totally reasonable.
If they don't like it, they can go cry on a bag of money.
Even Jadad Polis (D), Colorado – who represents Boulder, CO, one of the most liberal constituancies in the country voted against the plan coming out of the House. Opposition to this out of control train is not all one-sided.
That's Jarad Polis – so I can't type.
Prez Obama, I will support you any day over the ruthugs. And for all the idiots thats call prez a socialist, what do you call the last 8 years.
IF there is freedom to have abortions AS SOME WANT ! ! (GAWD, that is dumb tho) ...BUT we will not have a Choice for HEALTH CARE. . . . .THAT is socialism at its best.
Half the health care for twice the price makes the US health system a joke compared to Europe and Canada. Ever wonder why this is even an issue? The insurance companies want to keep the gray train rolling.
Don't cry now he's not doing what he promised. Don't cry now the deficit is growing by the nanoseconds. Did you actually believed everything he promised to do? Did you actually thought he was the messiah sent as a gift by god to come and fix our problems? HAHAHAHA. I am proud to say i didn't vote for Obama.
Why is Obama in such a rush, when NOBODY can figure out to pay for all of this? Something doesn't smell right here. I believe most Americans agree on the need, however no one wants/ nor can pay more in taxes to do so. And these dimwits in Congress/ Senate can't figure that out.
Obama's rapidly losing ground; and rightfully so. He's incompetent, unqualified, and now, along with the US Army Major filing suit questioning his citizenship, an 2 Star General has joined in....no, he's the totally wrong answer for this country. What's amazing is the total lack of comprehension by the liberal left that this clown is destroying our nation. Soon, India, China and Russia will not need ANYTHING from us, and we'll be catering to them because of this socialistic fraud. You libs have screwed the country and you'll reap what you sow. Too bad we can't divide the nation, physically, and put liberals, the minority of the population, on one side to fend for themselves instead of leeching off of the workers.
I have every confidence in President Obama that he will produce health care legislation that will solve most of the problems we are now having with health care in the US. The opposition of the health insurance industry and the Republicans who benefit from the contributions to them from these companies have attempted to portray the Obama health care initiative as a bad idea and too costly. Reform to the health care insurance industry is way overdue. We need it now and not later. The cost is not as important as the solution: most and eventually all Americans owing a health care insurance policy.
