WASHINGTON (CNN) – The latest fundraising numbers show that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee significantly outraised its Republican counterpart in June, though the two committees have raked in close to the same amount over the entire year.

The DSCC reported Monday raising $6.2 million last month compared to the National Republican Senatorial Committee's $3.4 million in the same time period. Since Jan. 1, the DSCC has raised $23.2 million, while the NRSC has taken in $20.1 million.

The DSCC also has a little less than double cash-on-hand as the NRSC, $7.9 million to $4.3 million. However, the DSCC is carrying a debt of $3.7 million, while the NRSC reports holding no debts.

One can't help but wonder how much this has to do with the sorry performance of the GOP senators on the Judiciary Committee.

While Democrats generally talked matters of substance, Republicans returned time and again to divisive racial politics. This in spite of the fact that those tactics failed miserably in the last election cycle.

The Republican Party needs to find a positive message and it needs to do it yesterday.

brian   July 20th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

well that's no suprise

Sue   July 20th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

They (the Dems) probably stole it from the TARP Funds; probably in the Bill they signed before anyone had time to read it.

George   July 20th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

They raised more money because the American people can see through the Gop and its wanting Obama and America to fail. Failure is the only way back for the GOP. They put party way ahead of country.
We the American people have seen the results of 8 years of failed policies. The GOP and Bush administration left the mess to President Obama, and now they want him to fail, like George Bush failed. We the American people know where the blame is and we say yes while all the GOP can do is whine and say NO.

Lauren   July 20th, 2009 10:31 pm ET

I will have to send them, the DSCC, another check for $100

Kate in SW Fla   July 20th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

I sent my donation to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign fund, and urge you to do the same. Now is not the time to falter. I am also supporting Alex Sink here in Fla. She will be an AWESOME governor. We are so sick of these Republicans here and their love of developers and hatred for education. We are itching to throw the bums out!!

Susan (Michigan)   July 20th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Why are people whining about the economy when so many people are throwing money away for these campaigns that are a year away? Wouldn't these millions do a lot of good for needed programs? Think, people. SARAHPAC and these committees will do nothing for the good of America. Give your money to good causes. Give to food banks, pay down your mortgage, and save for your retirement! As Sarah said about Alaska, she was glad when oil prices went down because then the state would have less money to spend. If these characters have less money, that means fewer nasty commercials!

Chris in SC   July 20th, 2009 9:29 pm ET

This is good!

Don   July 20th, 2009 9:22 pm ET

Way to go Democrats, Independents and disenfranchise Republicans. Change will not come easily, but with your help change is coming. Thanks.

Charlie in Maine   July 20th, 2009 9:04 pm ET

All the money in the world won't help them if they don't pass healthcare reform. If they are not smart enough to remember what happened in 1994 when they were too cowardly to pass it then they don't deserve to stay in the majority.
Lead follow or get out of the way.

Who is writing the titles to these little news junkets? Extremely poor usage of the english language on this one.

The Shrooming Liberal   July 20th, 2009 8:51 pm ET

Good! The repubs are done. I think even more midwest/great plains states will start going democratic in coming elections. I see Nebraska and North Dakota heading that direction in the future. Republicans hate family farmers. How unamerican is that!?

Rolling Barrel   July 20th, 2009 8:48 pm ET

I don't care how much they raise. Everytime they raise a lot of money I just get sick to my stomach seeing millions and millions going to hateful untruthful advertisements. Money coming from big industry that further puts politicians in the pockets of these lobbyists. I don't care if its Dems or GOP. The United Corporations of America are continuing to buy all these pols and its just horrible watching money wasted like they do. Imagine what could be done if they would put a fraction of the time and energy they spend fundraising and following the lobbyist pull into actually doing positive work for hte people who elect them. Granted it would be a one term job but would be a great example of a real A

Obama only creates TAXES   July 20th, 2009 8:43 pm ET

BUT are they paying taxes on ILGOTTEN GAINS.........NO, Just like Obama, all the DEMS are TAX CHEATS and the REPUBS are just CHEATS.

This is what our govt has come to, one word – CHEATS

This will change.....   July 20th, 2009 8:40 pm ET

as Obama's failures mount.....

Obama is failing on the economy, unemployment, and home foreclosures....

He is failing with N. Korea, Iran, China, the Taliban and Al Qaeda.....

He is failing on health reform and being criticized for excessive spending....

Obama is ONE and DONE

Ron in Wisconsin Dells WI   July 20th, 2009 8:27 pm ET

Lets face it.There are people who want to fix problems in our goverment and then there are people who want to keep the poor and so called middleclass down in the ditch without any clothes on there back and in order to survive we have to give money to either republicans or democrats thinking that they are going to do something for us.Its like a race to see who can soak us the most.Alot like insurance companys,Loan companys,Banks,They all work in unison to ring the living daylights out of us.This is whats wrong with America people.

Geneva Conventions - disregard   July 20th, 2009 8:25 pm ET

What about the newly elected Senator Franken, stein ?

xavier   July 20th, 2009 8:22 pm ET

I guess all the screaming and hollering by Steel about how much money the GOP has raised was just noice.

annie for Palin   July 20th, 2009 8:22 pm ET

The demon-crats better raise every time they can – they are going to need every penny come election time. Not to mention how much 'get out of jail' money they'll need if the keep destroying our beloved country.

Fla.   July 20th, 2009 8:16 pm ET

What, did Republican donors find out their contributions were being used to funnel money into the NRSC Chairman's indiscretion?

Not even a C STREET mafia cult could keep the secrecy any longer, yet Ensign stays in office. Understandably, I would NOT contribute to their corruption & hypocrisy, either.

Truth-Bomb Thrower   July 20th, 2009 8:14 pm ET

Hhhmmm. And just where did this money came from? Little old ladies in Topeka? Family farms in Nebraska? I don't think so.
I'd love to see the contributor list.

Moderate Democrat   July 20th, 2009 8:05 pm ET

That's pretty good when you consider that it's only the democrats that have been working their REAL jobs as well. All the repunks have been doing is siting around whining and doing nothing.

Just imagine if democrats had the same work ethic as republicans. Nothing would EVER get done. We would all just look at the amount of work that had to get done, and whine, cry, and throw a hissy fit...............Or quit.

Lilah, KS   July 20th, 2009 7:55 pm ET

The time for raising money for the DSCC is now. We can not allow the Republicans to take over the White House or any other house. George W. Bush put us in the outhouse, now the GOPers want us to pay them more money, so they can keep us there.

Nothing doing.

johnnie   July 20th, 2009 7:50 pm ET

Come on CNN , it is academic, when the President pushes the REAL button on the (CAMPAIN COMMITEE) The (GOP) will really know what time it is. We are ready to continue to put the (RNC) – (STEELE) and the (GOP) – (LIMPBASH) into the (AYBSS). We have gone thru 8 (YEARS) of BUSH- CHENEY, and by the way, where is (RICHARD) at?

TMC   July 20th, 2009 7:49 pm ET

Looks like in 2010 we will sweep all the dishonest Republicans out of office.

D. Tree   July 20th, 2009 7:45 pm ET

That's because despite the noise machine, a majority of Americans support the President and Democratic policies.

The opposition yells loudly, but they are virtually powerless.

Perhaps in 8 years they will understand how Democrats felt under the last 8 years of GOP rule.

Stephen in Denver   July 20th, 2009 7:45 pm ET

That is because the GOP is not getting the kickbacks like they used to.Their last cash pot is Health Care. Why else would they talk and talk. At some point the real world some action is required. The American people just want to see action. Mistakes will be made and fixed but advancement is happening!

ib   July 20th, 2009 7:38 pm ET

republicans are to busy trying to earn enough money to pay for all the new taxes that will be coming due to Obama's spending spree. Democrats will just apply for a cabinet post and not pay any taxes. All will be forgiven.

Nathan   July 20th, 2009 7:37 pm ET

while i appreciate your coverage of the politics of your state, i think you should also place some interest in the politics of small island developing states such as the commonwealth of Dominica where alot is going on politically ,

CNN: '...raise money more than...?'

just truth   July 20th, 2009 7:25 pm ET

now i understand why there are all these democrats falling and breaking bones! it's for the sympothy money that they list as contibutions. probably from big money banks that recieved tarp monies also.

annie s   July 20th, 2009 7:24 pm ET

Well, if the Democrats don't start standing with the President they sure aren't getting any more of my money. These unruly self-serving politicians are as responsible as Republicans for making the American people afraid of the real change they voted for when they elected Barack Obama. Health care reform – with a public option – NOW!

RR   July 20th, 2009 7:20 pm ET

well, you have 60 senators out raising money as opposed to 40, what do you expect?
