WASHINGTON (CNN) - In an act that might now be considered mainstream, New Jersey Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie announced his running mate on Twitter this morning.
"I'm proud to announce Sheriff Kim Guadagno as my running mate to #takebackNJ – watch the announcement video at," he wrote on his official campaign Twitter account @ChristieforNJ.
Christie's message, known in social media networking as a "tweet," was followed by a formal press release emailed by his campaign.
Guadagno is currently the Monmouth County Sheriff. According to her web site she oversees a 695 member, $65 million agency encompassing a law enforcement division, a 1,328 bed maximum security correctional facility, a youth detention center and a police communications/ 9-1-1 emergency dispatch center. Before holding this office, she was a former Assistant United States Attorney and Assistant Attorney General.
Christie opponent and current New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine has yet to name is running mate.
Twitter note: Corzine's Twitter account has 1,373 followers and Christie's account has 2,438 followers.

Another back-room politician selects his "enforcer" to run with him. Shame on New Jersey.
Note to republicans: if you want to connect with voters it's not new technology you need. It's new ideas. And whining about democrats while having no alternate plan does not count as new idea.
Yay for 21st century technology. Now the GOP can parrot Rush Limbaugh's tired old talking points at the speed of light! And people will continue ignoring them at the speed of light as well!
I guess the sheriff must be an expert on economic policy, education and health care.
Will the Sheriff resign while running for political office or will she be using her law enforcement authority for political gain?
Whatever unfavorable opinions republicans have of the President, they sure like taking his ideas. Next thing you'll know, they'll be reading from teleprompters.

Chris Christie has ideas. Good ones. Of course you would need to live here to understand that.
That is why he is going to beat Corzine, and there is not one thing President Obama can do about it!
What's funny is that these guys don't even write their own tweets.
I wonder how much Sheriff Kim Guadagno had to pay Chrissie Christie for that privilege.
Obama and his progressively spend drunk Congress is the best thing going for Republicans. Keep up the good work! The next Ronald Reagan is right around the corner..
Another republican to get all excited about. Yea buddy!!! Those losers need to find a job. They supported a war to kill brave americans. They supported sending money for Iraq infrastructure and destroyed the american economy. And now the few that are left can only cry NO to helping the average american. New Jersey may need a new governor but a republican is not an answer. They need a person who can help the average american citizen.
They hate President Obama but love to follow in his footsteps...
My husband bought me a parrot for our anniversary.
It's got a bird brain, doesn't have an original thought of its own, and can only repeat what someone else has already said.
I named it Dutch.
Why do you think they are called twits? The age of useless technology is upon us and the twits are multiplying. If you can't use the phone or send an email, don't contact me.
There was an opinion poll done last week about whether people thought health care is a universal right. The answer is yes, It is a universal right.
It would help greatly if the "UN Declaration of Human Rights" was publicized more than it is. This document is on the website of un.org.
(United Nations). It was conceived and created with the help of Eleanor Roosevelt. Among the rights declared to be a human right is the right to health care. I never hear any political commentators mention this document. Why is it being kept such a secret?
The GOP will not win in NJ or VA. It is a southern party.
a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
The questions are about Christie: why hasn't he put any ads on TV by himself to add to the ones paid by the Republican Governors Association; Has he mentioned anything about this person he picked for lt gov? Is there anything that Christie has proposed that he can do - he can't be a prosecutor while he is governor.
Gimmicks, technology and words but no ideas. Bet there are legions of hired consultants saying "Now oush this button!" New Jersey will get what they deserve with this candidate.
To "I named my parrot Dutch":
That was spot on perfect!!! Best laugh I've had since January 20th, since there hasn't been much to laugh about recently.
@ I named my parrot Dutch who said "It's got a bird brain"
Well duh! A parrot is a bird numbskull.
Oh, you can't tell me he would have selected this man before Obama ran so positively in 2008. Now the same old tired politicians will come out of the woodwork with their latest "minority running mate". I'm so tired of the politics of plastic, phoney baloney ideas. Get over yourselves GOPers, you haven't had a new idea on your own since NEVER.
Voters may turn to Republicans to fix the economy that they broke, because they are very impatient and do not want to worry about anything but the present. The last tax cuts we had, at both the national and the local levels put us into this position. We are not now, and will never again, be competitive in the world. We traded our leadership role for 401Ks and 52" TVs – which are now useless. Other countries took their profits and plowed them back into developing their human capital and infrastructure while we started stupin, expensive wars and, on top of that, gave unnecessary tax cuts to billionaires. Ridiculous. Future generations will pay a very heavy price for those reckless and greedy policies.
@ Kate in SW Fla........... Well said!! The GOP ran this Nation into a ditch, and we, have to continue to remind every single American that the MESS we are IN....... is called the BUSH/GOP LEGACY!
WAKE UP AMERICA DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE GOP!
Obama's been in Office a mere ..........SEVEN MONTHS! He inherited the BIGGEST Financial Crisis since the Great Depression! Give the man a break!
Yawn...
