GOP's new youth ambassador: Lady Gaga?

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Politics may make for strange bedfellows - but even for this town, this may be the oddest couple to ever make beautiful music together: House Republicans...and pop diva Lady Gaga.

At Tuesday morning's weekly GOP conference meeting, Republicans were shown a clip of a video parody of the Lady Gaga hit, "Just Dance" that replaces the popular song's refrain with "Just Tax."

The parody video was developed by Peter Cowman, a 23-year-old who just graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, outside Rep Dave Reichert's district. A spokeswoman for Reichert said the congressman wanted to show his colleagues the video to encourage them to get young people involved using new media, and noted his district is home to a cluster of technology companies.

"He wanted them to encourage the youth in their district, and share the message on a level that young people can relate to," Reichert's spokeswoman told CNN.

Asked about the video, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, R-Ind, laughed and said "it's part of the Pence youth initiative."

Pence admitted that very few members were familiar with the original Lady Gaga song.

did anyone notice that LADY GAGA HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!

She is not in it, doesn't sing in it, has nothing to do with it. It is just a paradody, and probably unauthorized.

Hey CNN, why don't you find out if Lady Gaga approved this, or how she feels about it. She might just be ticked off, like the last time the republicans tried to use popular music.

The video itself is a bit lame, and it's kind of sad that the GOP is still not in tune (so to speak) with the "youth" of the country. Personally, I love Lady Gaga – and actually find it kind of ironic that they would choose a song originally about being drunk at a club – but that's fine.

I think what people need to stop doing is pitting Republicans against Democrats (neither can walk away without blood on their hands) but realize what's happening to our country! We got ourselves into a hole (yes, government and loaners helped, but we did alot of this to ourselves – spending money that we don't have...buying large homes that we can't afford...maxing credit cards...etc.) President Obama made some large promises, too grand for reality, and what sounds like something that is going to help us (i.e., stimulus package) is actually putting us in a bigger hole. That isn't free money. It's gotta come from somewhere. Us. Our kids. Our grandkids. We'll be paying off the existing debt plus the debt incurred from all the "new" spending.

When are you people going to realize that ALL politicians are in DC for themselves only? None of them care about the good of the country, they only care about being re-elected and getting campaign donations, because they've realized that their actions don't determine how we vote, it's how much money they spend and how much pork they bring home.

Our system is broken because they all realized that they can buy our votes with our own tax dollars.

For those people who complain...I sure don't see anyone else trying to solve the problems. It is easy to complain isn't it? Well thank God we finally have someone who is willing to take the heat to try to do what is best for all of us. Sad that people don't realize that this is the number one issue facing our future and no one wants to fix it.

People won't start agreeing with your message simply because you set it to the same melody and beat as a popular song. It's the CONTENT of the message that matters, and until Republicans can get their ideas together in a cohesive, constructive, positive way, they'll continue to struggle and be ineffective.

You people do realize that Lady Gaga isn't advocating this party, they made a parody of her song? Besides, based on her videos of making out with women and men at the same time, I doubt that she is the poster child for the repubs, about like having Madonna as a repub. But then again, I guess it would fit, the repubs don't care who they screw.

Reminds me of how Michael Steele wanted to bring "hip-hop" to the RNC. How'd that work out?

Your headline is misleading. It's not Lady Gaga who has done anything for the GOP. It's a recent college grad in WA. Given several recent controversies about Republicans using popular music without permission of the composers and performers (see today's news regarding Jackson Browne), you ought to be more careful.

Republicans represent the older generation - of course they haven't heard about her. She's definitely no bible-thumper!

    Love me some Lady Gaga!

If what the republicans have done to this nation over the last eight years is not enough to get the young voters involved, nothing is.

this is stupid. stupid is as stupid does.

Does Michael Steele really have to spend every hour of every day attacking President Obama? This joke of a leader gives the Republican Party no direction at all. Have we ever heard any new policy initiatives from this fool.

Actually, if you read the article carefully it's just saying that some guy basically went in and dubbed over Lady Gaga's voice with the "Just Tax." She probably doesn't even know this happened...Just a thought, maybe it shouldn't be blown out of proportion and made into something it isn't, a huge fight like everything always is. Maybe if we all paid better attention then we'd get along a little bit better.

Lady Gaga is definitely not a "Republican Youth Ambassador."

Did LG even approve of this 23 year old Republican to parody her song and present it to the GOP? I am pretty sure she didn't and I am sure she is not an ambassador for the party.

    Please fix this.

CNN YOUR HEADLINE IS MISLEADING because it implies that Lady Gaga is working with the GOP. You're just as bad as Faux news when you do this crap.

    PLEASE HAVE SOME JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY

The irony of using Lady Gaga, who I am pretty sure would be vilified by the GOP, to promote any part of the GOP platform is staggering. Ironic to the 10 power, I tell ya.

According to the article, some guy made a parody of Lady Gaga's song "Just Dance." Somehow, this got translated into: "Lady Gaga is pro-republican." Yet further demonstration that reading is fundamental (i.e. the more you (mis)read, the more likely you'll come up with a conservative/fundamental stance. I hope she sues the clown for copyright infringement.

Is Lady Gaga actually a Republican? How does she feel that her image / music is being used in this manner?

Wonder if they paid her for the use of the song. The GOP are all "Law and Order" until they want to rip something off from an artist.

Hope she or her record label sues.

I don't know, as a Republican I think I prefer Lady Gaga to the poisonous ramblings of Rush and Newt and their continuing alienation of an entire young generation.

Ah, those grumpy white old men of the GOP. They are so hip and full of new ways to meet the demands of the new world economy. Drive the country into a ditch and then stand back and complain about those who are trying to get the country out of the ditch they drove into. Shameful.
