President Obama responded to criticism of his jeans with a simple explanation: 'Those jeans are comfortable.'

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sometimes even one of the most powerful men in the world has to answer to the fashion police.

President Barack Obama found himself in just that situation in an interview that aired Tuesday on NBC.

Asked about criticism of the jeans he wore recently when he threw out the first pitch last week at the Major League Baseball All-Star game, Obama didn't make any excuses.

"Michelle – she looks fabulous," the president said of his wife who has increasingly become a global fashion super star since Election Day.

"I'm a little frumpy," Obama said of himself by comparison.

The president also offered some insights into his self-admitted lack of sartorial expertise.

"Up until a few years ago, I only had four suits," the commander-in-chief said.

"I hate to shop. Those jeans are comfortable. And for those of you who want your president to look great in his tight jeans, I'm sorry. I'm not the guy," Obama added.

Obama's jeans choice for his all-star game appearance were widely panned by fashion critics and even dubbed "mom jeans."

CNN..... you have got to be kidding me. When did you trade in your journalism to be Obama's PR team? In case you haven't noticed there are things like him saying that he is going to raise taxes that might be more important for you to inform the public about.

Maybe the country should have elected Michelle. She's prettier and dresses up better than Barack–and maybe she'd be less inclined to wreck the US economy with trillion-dollar spending sprees and wreck the US health care system by socialising it.

You weren't voted in to look good.....you were voted in to help this country and frankly, you need all the help you can get......

just concentrate on making this country better, Barrack..... that's why you're in office..... I don't care what your clothes look like.

I'd rather you fix this economy than wear triple-digit jeans....

and by the way..... if you didn't fly to the middle of the country to throw a ball..... my tax money wouldn't have been used for your security and air force one time.....and you may have had a chance to meet with someone in Washington on health care, the economy, immigration, etc., instead.....

quit being a rock star and start being my president.....

I think the president has his priorities in order, serving the American people. That's all that matters.

Who doesn't dress casually for a ball game? Most attendees are usually in jeans, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, etc. I think people need to keep things in perspective. Everyone should have the right to dress down, including the President. Dress appropriately for the function you are attending... that's what my mom always taught me!

Obama can go to overstock and type in AG Jeans Men's. They cost Between $200-$300 in department stores but on overstock he can get them between $50-$70. The AG Straight-leg are both comfortable and fabulous looking.

More fluff reporting when serious matters go unreported. Curious that Obama has delayed the release of the mid-session budget review which should have been out last week. But more bad news on the spiraling deficit may have tainted his glowing aspirations for universal healthcare. Fortunately for Obama, he can always depend on his co-conspirators in the mainstream media in his fleecing of America.

We have $11,000,000,000,000 of debt that is increasing by $1,000,000,000,000 a year and this is the first-up topic?

    God help us all.

Obama is selling snake-oil on healthcare, "green" energy, and is about to offer amnesty to 20,000,000 illegal aliens so in 20 years we will have 40,000,000 illegal aliens...and this is CNN's top priority on the political ticker!

This country is about to drown in debt and the president is proposing a massive, long-term spending spree...

This country punishes people who make the smart and hard choices with and rewards deadbeats and illegal aliens...

...and this is CNN's top priority on the political ticker!

This is it? From banks making billions after governmment loans and no accountability as to how it was spent to helath care reform that apparently will bankrupt the middle class to pay for it to another six months at Guantanamo to another czar for Obama and it all boils down to what Obama wears for clothes.

Wow, this is the hard-hitting journalism that I so crave. I am sure the media spent precious time discussing the fashion faux pas of past presidents. Was President Washington’s wig “frumpy”? Did the suit that Jefferson wore look “gauche”? President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was surely “stuffy” in his white suits? I have to tell you, I thought the fashion sense of President Taft was “saucy”. We are closer to Pope’s “Rape of the Lock” being a hard news story rather than the utter satire it was intended to be. Walter Kronkite, we miss your sensibility in these woeful lack of intelligent discourse times.

How nice that we have nothing more important to focus on in this country than the jeans the President wears. What is wrong with the news media these days? Really, what is wrong with you? To give this "story" any mileage is ridiculous. The guy can't even wear a pair of jeans without him being criticized. If you are going to attack him, at least make it for a credible reason. Are you all Rethuglicons, or what?
