President Obama responded to criticism of his jeans with a simple explanation: 'Those jeans are comfortable.'

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sometimes even one of the most powerful men in the world has to answer to the fashion police.

President Barack Obama found himself in just that situation in an interview that aired Tuesday on NBC.

Asked about criticism of the jeans he wore recently when he threw out the first pitch last week at the Major League Baseball All-Star game, Obama didn't make any excuses.

"Michelle – she looks fabulous," the president said of his wife who has increasingly become a global fashion super star since Election Day.

"I'm a little frumpy," Obama said of himself by comparison.

The president also offered some insights into his self-admitted lack of sartorial expertise.

"Up until a few years ago, I only had four suits," the commander-in-chief said.

"I hate to shop. Those jeans are comfortable. And for those of you who want your president to look great in his tight jeans, I'm sorry. I'm not the guy," Obama added.

Obama's jeans choice for his all-star game appearance were widely panned by fashion critics and even dubbed "mom jeans."

Oh he's a little more than just frumpy, he's a liar. No one who claims to be a Sox fan could make the mistake of calling Comiski Park Comminsky Field. He also said that he remembers sitting in the steep upper section of the old Comiski park. The old Comiski park had very shallow upper section, the steep section is in the new Cellular Field. I doubt that this liar was ever at a Sox game. If he can lie about this how can you trust him at all. What a Baffoon.

He's can wear what he wants and still look great! He's late 40's not twenty. Glad to see his attention is where it should be and not on his casual clothes sense. Although Mr. President, new jeans don't have to be tight.....and his suits look great. Would like to see him wear some lighter, summer colors though. 🙂

Good to see the President making a pitch for (Health Care Reform) what strikes me with President Obama, is that the President is comfortable , in his own skin. He is (Down to Earth) and it is (Refreshing) to have a President who can display a casual outlook. Many Americans can relate to that, we go out to the (Ballparks) in our (jeans) and like to be (settle) and enjoy the (Game). I think is so (Kool) that President complements (The First Lady) with her Fashion, and does not let (Weak ) criticism distract him form what is more important (The Country). President Obama is a (NEW) and (KOOL) , (Commander and Chief ) and keep hitting (HOME RUNS) for the (Nation) Mr.President..........

Only 105 of the people are left handed but 80% of the Presidents since World War 2 are left handed. B oth McCain and Obama are left handed. Why?

Frumpy or not he was dressed for a baseball game, I see nothing wrong with his attire. By the way, what exactly is the functionality of a suit and tie.

The man can wear what he wants! If you don't like what he wears, then by all means go out and by him a new wardrove!

Now that this important info has been released, the economy will start to recover, world markets will stabilize, global warming will reverse itself, and terrorists will put down their weapons. Our healthcare will still suck though.

Mr. President, I think you looked fine. Don't do designer jeans and love it because you know how and when to be comfortable!

When he threw out that first pitch, I was thinking "what a regular guy he looks like in those jeans." He looked great, has personality and class, and he is very intelligent; what more could anyone want? I think the Republicans feel....well, if he was only a Republican then he could do no wrong. Pres. Obama, you listen to me and not all those so-called "judges of fashion." 🙂

    Good for him.
    What a ridiculous trivial topic!
With all the issues we have in this country, who cares what kind of jeans the President wears.

Thanks for posting these important news stories. Just keep ignoring the destruction of America as Obama tries to bankrupt the USA.

Fashion is for the young and mindless followers of trends. Its all about making you spend money to keep up with the Jones. The sheep are eager to follow fashion because they dont have a mind of their own.Vanity is the biggest motivator for fashion and cosmetics sales and we all know who the buyers are, dont we?

If you should ask me, I would say it is Mrs. Obama who looks frumpy!
With those belts up way too high and wrapped around a tight sweater just looks strange on a woman that has a big frame. But who a I to say, when all the "people in vogue" say she is a fashion icon! I just don't get it I guess....

Who cares what The President wears as long as he looks the part and appears professional. This President who campaigned on change is certainly living up to that with his proposals and spending sprees. All of this will affect Americans for generations to come. Some think these changes are positive while others are not so sure. Whatever the case – a report on what he wears is NOT NEWS. The press continues to "fawn" over this guy – showing their incompetence to report objectively about anything that he does.

Seriously, Michelle Obama, get over yourself and help out your husband a bit in clothes. I know you like the attention on just yourself, but for Christ's sake, he is the Leader of the Free World!
Also, let's all stop over-drooling about how fabulous Michelle looks–she's less than average as compared to some other famous political personalities-Carla Sarkozy, Queen Letizia of Spain, Queen Rania, First Lady of Spain, etc. Check it out!

Oh My – Are you telling us he DID NOT spend $150,000 on clothes? How can that be? Even the R VP candidate spent money on clothes that were never used again and nothing about them being donated.

What a truly intellectual article this is CNN. Improvement over the normal e-gossip? NO.
