President Obama responded to criticism of his jeans with a simple explanation: 'Those jeans are comfortable.'

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sometimes even one of the most powerful men in the world has to answer to the fashion police.

President Barack Obama found himself in just that situation in an interview that aired Tuesday on NBC.

Asked about criticism of the jeans he wore recently when he threw out the first pitch last week at the Major League Baseball All-Star game, Obama didn't make any excuses.

"Michelle – she looks fabulous," the president said of his wife who has increasingly become a global fashion super star since Election Day.

"I'm a little frumpy," Obama said of himself by comparison.

The president also offered some insights into his self-admitted lack of sartorial expertise.

"Up until a few years ago, I only had four suits," the commander-in-chief said.

"I hate to shop. Those jeans are comfortable. And for those of you who want your president to look great in his tight jeans, I'm sorry. I'm not the guy," Obama added.

Obama's jeans choice for his all-star game appearance were widely panned by fashion critics and even dubbed "mom jeans."

all the news doesn't have to be about something "heavy"; a little light news now and then is enjoyable and as far as what he wears, who cares as long as he is wearing something

Not only did he look like a regular guy at a baseball game, he is demonstrating a more important aspect of his character. A great sense of humor. Pay attention folks. Let's hope it rubs off.

Nobody cares what Obama wears, or what his wife wears. He is not Jack Kennedy and she is not Jackie. Doesn't he have enough real problems to worry about?

This is stupid. He was wearing the kind of jeans that probably 95% of the 48 year old men in this country wear. Just because he is president doesnt mean me is gonna be comfortable is clothes that are that different than anyone else in his age group. its pathetic this is the kind of thing people focus on. Its another example of how are country has become one which worships the "cult of personality" we focus on meaningless stuff that famous people do.

If he were wearing designer jeans, the rest of the pundits would be complaining about wasting his money, and how it is offensive to all the unemployed americans. There is no winning.

BHO looked very frail and fragile, so much, that his pitchin' style was noticeably effeminate. We strongly recommend that BHO pump some iron and bulk up, before being ridiculed by the GOP as a physically weak Prez.

He doesn't know that you're supposed to put your foot against the front of the rubber (the white thing on the mound), not stand on it! And he throws like a sissy, not a girl, since my daughters can all throw very well, thank you. If you look at any of their joint interviews together, Michelle is always expressing the masculine energy, and he's always coming in with some femininity to soften whatever she says. Very interesting dynamic.

I'm a girl and I resent the comparison. I throw much better.

This seems rather obvious, but to all those exclaiming "why is this news?", I have a question for you; why are you reading and commenting? The headline and picture make it pretty clear what this is about. Do you have such little to do with your day that you HAVE to read and comment on things that you feel are not worthwhile?
It's only news if you read it.

...but you're still lookin' good, Mr. President ~ and doing a fine job, might I add! Be encouraged to continue ~ even in the faces of naysayers...

We appreciate you, in all of your "frumpiness."

Yeah haters......criticize the president for everything he's doing. Your lives must be miserable smelly sacks of regurgitated "ring wing" talking points. If you had a moment to consider that this man is trying to clean up a mess that would have brought us the GREAT DEPRESSION "Part duex" – then you would be more appreciative. Then again hating "...all things Obama" is the reason for your pathetic existence. Sad group of so called americans!

Kudos to Mr. President. It shows that he is human too and he's not afraid to hang out with us regular people at ball games, etc. While he does have business to attend to, we all do, we need to laugh and have a little fun often. This has been proven to make people more productive.

Maybe if Bush hung out with us, he wouldn't have gotten such a bad rap.

Mr. President, when you get a chance to take off the suit, make sure you're comfortable. If that means baggy jeans, who cares! You look great because you're comfortable in your own skin. Clothes don't make the man. You have charisma, good looks and charm, you can't buy those at the store.

    I love my President!!

Oh, for heaven's sake! He was at a BASEBALL game! What do you expect him to wear? A tuxedo?

    Next important topic to discuss?

Hugo Castrobama – you are so far out in left field you wouldn't know what country your are in. If he's not a citizen, you aren't either. You must be one of those that believe we didn't land on the moom.

Again – hard to believe some of these comments. And what the heck are "mom" jeans? It used to be the women wore men's jeans because there were no women's jeans. Jeans are jeans – they come in all sizes and all shapes (including rags, holes and bleached) and they change according to the same people that are ragging on the president. Kudos to him for not caring what his jeans are as long as they are comfy. The sloppiness of the average American wearing next to nothing or gunny sacks would better serve comment.

Obama doesn't need to make a fashion statement – he's already made a statement about being an amazing President who's making a difference in foreign policy and on the economic front and will soon make more history by succeeding in his quest for universal health care.

He's brilliant and getting things done like no other president in my lifetime.

We are incredibly lucky to have this man as our President – just when we so desperately need him.
