Palin defense fund may be unethical, investigator says

Gov. Sarah Palin may have violated state ethics laws.
Gov. Sarah Palin may have violated state ethics laws.

(CNN) – Outgoing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may have violated state ethics laws by letting supporters set up a legal defense fund to help her battle ethics complaints, a preliminary report on the issue has found.

An investigator hired by the state personnel board recommended Palin - who gives up her office on Sunday - refuse money from the defense fund and ask the state to pay legal fees for ethics complaints that have been dismissed.

Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein said that the report is not final, however, and he is preparing "supplemental information" for the investigator. Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, cited the cost of battling ethics complaints from her critics as one of the reasons she is giving up her office about two-thirds of the way through her term.

Most complaints have been dismissed, though one led to her paying back taxes on state per diem funds, and she agreed to repay about $8,100 in travel expenses for her children in another case.

The complaint in which she paid $8,100 in travel expenses for her children only means she is guilty of loving her children, and wanting to be with them when she travels.

Palin must be terrifying to the Dems because they will just not leave her alone with their false charges in an effort to destroy any future political role. I guess she comes across a little more exciting than does Hillary or Nancy.

It's my understanding she has other "gifts" that she hasn't opened yet, because (she says) she only has to declare what she opens while she in in an official government position.

Hey - I read the blogs on adn.com almost every day. Just to see what Alaskans are thinking. Boy – they sure live a long way away from the Southern 48 watchdogs.

    Vote for Sarah!

    She is anti-abortion
    She is anti-climate change

She is pro own a gun
She knows a terrorist pal when she sees one!
If you want Sarah Palin for President you must not be well read and educated. She is nothing more then a rebel rouser and paper tiger. There is no substance or world awareness. God let her lose for a reason and he is never wrong.

    PS_ She's a quitter

This gal should consult lawyers from time to time. It seems that she just doesn't understand that. Your ethics fund shouldn't be unethical.

I looked up the AP writer, Rachel Cordova D'Oro, on facebook and found she has Linda Kellen Biegel aka Celtic Diva on her friends list!! Linda is involved with entering the frivolous ethics complaints against Sarah Palin. I took a quick screen shot and sent to the AP editor.

I think Alaska is better off without her. This politician became a national joke and showed exactly how out of touch with reality the Republican's have become. With any luck she'll fade away but I got the feeling she'll be around for years to remind the population of how Obama won the hearts and minds of the USA.

I really don't like her as President , but she has been attacked more than any politician in history since Nixon. Everyone who thinks she deserves this is a liar and closed minded. She had more experience than Odumbo and she doesn't lie like Odumbo.

Sarah has inspired Americans everywhere with her courage and determination to move forward despite bitter personal attacks. She may not be the "annointed one" of the elites but she sure has connected with working people. She will continue to surpass expectations as a captivating leader of the GOP. There can be no doubt that she is the frontrunner in 2012.

I sincerely hopes her runs for President in 2012,Obama needs another term to fix the screwups that Bush has done in the last 8 years(which Republicans have mysteriously seemed to have forgotten already)

The almost ex governor is a not above taking money from anyone who will give it to her. Im sure she will make a lot more money now that she is giving up her office. Money is the motivating force behind this bimbo. Wait and see. I can't believe people will actually pay to read her book or see her speak but they will. And if they come away understanding what she says then we are all in trouble. The woman is a wacko who will go with what ever party takes her. If the Dem's acted like they wanted her she would back them to. She will prostitute her views for the highest bidder wait and see.

It's just yet another spurious complaint made by hateful, intolerant liberals (I'm sorry for the redundancy there).

Anyone reading the complaint honestly has to admit that it's bogus... of course, that lets CNN and otehr libs off the hook, so go ahead and attack...

I'm sick of this. Look, the media built this woman up to be the greatest thing when they thought she could be their "Obama" alternative, but since it did not work out, now they're trying to tear her down. I wish she and Obama would team up on the validity of the MSM.
