Obama says health care delay is OK 'to get it right'

President Obama said Thursday that he would accept a delay in the passage of health care reform if it meant that a satisfactory bill would be passed.
President Obama said Thursday that he would accept a delay in the passage of health care reform if it meant that a satisfactory bill would be passed.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (CNN) – President Barack Obama said Thursday that he is willing to accept a temporary delay in the passage of health care reform legislation if Congress ultimately approves a satisfactory bill.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid indicated earlier in the day that the full Senate will not vote on health care reform legislation before the August congressional recess.

Obama had been pushing for both the House and Senate to pass health care legislation before going on their summer break - a goal that has appeared increasingly unlikely due to fierce Republican opposition and cost concerns cited by fiscally conservative Democrats.

"My attitude is I want to get it right, but I also want to get it done promptly," Obama told a packed town hall audience in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Obama said he could accept a longer timeline "as long as I see folks working diligently and consistently."

If legislators "are legitimately working out tough problems ... I have no problem," he said. But "I don't want a delay just because of politics ... (or) delay for the sake of delay."

Health Care delay is ok, as long as it's done before August, or say goodbye to your recess.

Then: Umbama will get it done right away by magic.

Now: Um, I, ah, meant to have it delayed!

Messiah meets Reality and shows he is just a lying Politician.

Thank goodness. This was being pushed through way too fast and had a high chance of not being done propertly. Maybe now, we will get a health plan that works for everyone. The only problem I've had with President Obama is that he seems to want everything immediately (instant gratification which is what's wrong with the populace these days). It's always much better to take your time and make sure it's right before doing anything.

I could be wrong but less than 24 hours ago I remember watching an infomercial or press conference or something along those lines where Obama emphasized that it was absolutely critical that we completely overhaul the entire health care system rght now. Now it's ok to wait a few months. This guy can't even keep his own lies straight.

This is not a Repub. problem, but a Dem problem.
The president needs to stop blaming Bush and get to
    leading the country!!
The president needs to give clear direction of what he wants
to Congress and let the American people deside if we want it!
I have read most of the House Bill, to me that would be the first
step for the President before backing it!

I personally think the bill in the House needs to be thrown out
    and start all over!!!

I disagree. Harry Reid is no doubt working in the hands of health care money. My opinion.

I am tired of the Party of NO, Rethugs, doing all they can to win at any cost. The Rethugs don't care who is or is not covered. The Rethugs are so hypocritical, whether cheating politicians or they feel a man's home is his castle, if he is a White man!

That is a great victory for the opposition because it will give more time for people to learn and realize that this legislation is just awful for our country. Obama is the biggest loser in this.

So now a delay is OK? After he's spent weeks trying to ram this thing down our throats saying "We've gotta move on this. We can't wait"?

Here's an idea: Why not let people actuallly read the the thing BEFORE they vote on it? I know, that makes too much sense for Dumbocrats. Thank God the Blue Dogs have some backbone.

For all the people not wanting reform. One day you or somebody you know is going to get sick. Then you are going to have to deal with the insurance company trying to cancel your policy for pre-existing condition. Then will see if you want health reform. I encourage people to put there experiences with the insurance companies on the internet so people can get an image of what is going on with health insurance companies. People need to educate themselves instead of listening to Republican rich people tell them that we do not need reform. The reason rich people are worring about reform is because they know there is a potential they could have to pay higher taxes.

None of the pro-Obamacare folks posting on here seem to realize the Majority of the American People don't want their healthcare messed with. All the polls are now shifting to align with Gallop. People are afraid of this massive boondoggle.

Annette – "and to you haters of President Obama, your nasty behavior is very disrepectful to the President."

What about the hatred he's showing towards the American people by trying to shove a horrible healthcare bill down our throats? Did that ever occur to you? Obviously not.

Newsflash: Repubs aren't gonna sit there and take this mockery of a bill, or the President, and just say nothing. If you think otherwise, you're delusional.

If the plan (as many people suspect) of Obama is to pay back those African Americans who do not work, but yet went to the polls to vote for what they call a black man (actually a 1/2 truth) then the plan will not work in the long run.

Actually, Chris, more white people receive public assistance than black people. But don't let facts get in your way. Have a nice day!

Funny how the dems are berating the GOP when they don't need a single republican vote to pass the bill...

Hmmm... i think someone actually read this one. It's amazing how dems can't rush bills through when they actually have time to read them.

Barack needs to get it through his thick head that the majority of Americans DO NOT WANT A PUBLIC OPTION.

Riegn in HMO beaurocracy, reign in waste, reign in corruption and things will be better. None of these requires socializing medicine.

And the Republicans ideas for healthcare reform are what again????
It's simple U.S. companies cannot stay competitive in business in the world with these high costs of health, not when other countries offer healthcare to its citizens, which eliminates the cost for the companies.

It took a while to get in this mess and it WILL take a while to get out. Obama has only been in office 6 months people. At least he has ideas and takes them to the public.

Congress needs to read EVERY word. No way to explain to us what's in it if they have no idea themselves. Right now NO ONE has explained the whats, whys and hows! NO ONE to include the president! I'm not from Missouri but somebody needs to SHOW ME! We all have been burned by BOTH parties before! Enough with the speeches! What's in this bill?
