Palin's resignation hardly a curtain call

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has a strong base of supporters, as well as a steady supply of vocal critics.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has a strong base of supporters, as well as a steady supply of vocal critics.

(CNN) - Last August, then-Republican presidential nominee John McCain introduced to the nation his surprise pick for vice president, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

At the time, little was known about the fresh-faced, first-term governor, but within days, Palin's face was on newspapers, magazines and tabloids.

Since then, Palin has become a polarizing figure in the Republican Party. Her passionate supporters are countered with equally fervent critics.

And even though it's been nearly a year since she ventured onto the national stage and more than eight months since the Republican ticket lost the election, as Palin prepares to leave office, the public's interest in her has yet to wane. Palin explains why she's stepping down

"She's kind of a shooting star that caught fire and kept burning," said Lorenzo Benet, an assistant editor for People magazine and author of "Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin."

"When she walks into a room, she definitely commands attention and she gets more than most. She's definitely a star," said Benet, who was the only national journalist to have spent much time with Palin in the weeks before she was announced as McCain's running mate.

Palin, a mother of five, "caught the imagination" of the public because there is no one else like her, Benet said. "Particularly for conservative America, there hasn't been a rallying figure of this type," he noted.

Her detractors are so afraid of her. Of what are they afraid? That she values all human life (unlike those who subscribe to Obama's new health program), that she loves this country and the principles on which it was established (which the present administration is trying so desperately to destroy by taking over the Justice Dept and telling the Legislative branch what to do, bankrupting the country all by himself, reducing our national defenses), that she loves and protects her children in the name of common decency, that she wants this country to have adequate national defense, that she thinks government is too big and too obtrusive into the lives of citizens? Just what are the objections of her detractors? Without knowing the facts, they just call her names, and ACORN is out there recruiting and registering more of them.

Sahah palin is the best! She drives liberals crazy and that makes me happy. she is a stealhy repub in that she draws fire from the conservative agenda. it is like when george bush attacked iraq and drew militant Islamists from all over the world like flies to stink to fight there. once entrenched in iraq, we picked them off under the cover of freeing the iraqi people. if that happen, fine. if not, we tried. our military paid the ultimate price to ensure our freedom and protect us from an onshore attach larger than 9/11. the military understands the big picture and endorsed bush all the way. obama was advised that bush's strategy is genius and that is why he continues both the wars in iraq and Afghanistan!!! he will reverse course on gitmo too – see the closing delay happening? some people play checkers and some play chess three moves out. bush laughs at you, knowing full well his dealings were in the best interest of the country and his place in history will higher than the messiah (grand failure) and clinton. sarah palin laughs at you tools.

The GOP "base" likes her because she is as dumb and ingorant as they are, and proud of it, like they are. They don't care about the fact that she's completely unqualified to run a state, let alone the most powerful nation in the world.

Palin's publicity, for some of us, is an outcome of her assumption that she could do a job for which she is not qualified. We follow her story to see
the reality of her limitations and how they are more and more evident with each exposure.

There can be no doubt that Palin has the attributes of an attractive candidate and political leader. She aroused the nation in 2008 with her charisma and folksy charm. Now she has moved on to a higher calling and in so doing, has captured the attention of an adoring public. She may not be the favorite of the elites who criticize her but she above all others understands regular people. Palin is indisputably the 2012 frontrunner.

its obvious she quit as gov. so she could make money in the entertainment field. she was pitched. why be in politics when she can make millions as a talk show host or reality tv star? shes going to be the female rush limbaugh. she will be the voice of the nitwits. WATCH it will happen. and will anybody call her out on it? will anybody be angry that she shows money and fame over the public service to america that she promised and stood by? of course not!! the sheep will follow. just like all the nit wits that stood up to do the pledge of allegiance at that town hall meeting like a group of elementary school kids. THAT is her fanbase. the lunatic screaming "i want my country back!!" which in other words means "i dont want a black president!!!"

"She's kind of a shooting star that caught fire and kept burning," Good characterization. Shooting stars are not real stars. They are meteoric debris that come shooting down and usually burn out in the atmosphere before they reach the earth.

Sarah Palin definitely has star appeal. Like any other sex symbol, she's a tool for some men in the back room. This time it's Fundamentalist Evangelical Christian men. They'll use her to raise money and promote their vision of an American Autocratic Theocracy. She'll make Sanford look good enough to vote for. She'll help Gingrich and Huckabee battle paganism. She'll do the dirty work of trashing gays, insulting blacks and hispanics, and snuggling up to Randall Terry.
But in the end those men will abandon her. She'll be relegated to sitting opposite someone like Brian Kilmeade, pontificating on the benefits of being pure and white in America. Like Prosperity Gospel or the Six Mountaintops. Selling neoconservatism like hawking ShamWows. Ready willing and able to make a complete ass of herself whenever those men demand it of her. Kind of like what Janeane Garofolo does for neoliberals.
She's a fiction. a shill, a token. Those men in the back room know, in their hearts and minds, she could never survive a campaign for national office.

With all the problems the American people are facing we need some one with the intellect to solve problems not just criticize the president. I guess after quitting her job she has a lot of free time to pal around with the other losers of her party

If she isn't bringing solutions to the table, she needs to keep her mouth shut; which is hard for her to do.
