Palin's resignation hardly a curtain call

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has a strong base of supporters, as well as a steady supply of vocal critics.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has a strong base of supporters, as well as a steady supply of vocal critics.

(CNN) - Last August, then-Republican presidential nominee John McCain introduced to the nation his surprise pick for vice president, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

At the time, little was known about the fresh-faced, first-term governor, but within days, Palin's face was on newspapers, magazines and tabloids.

Since then, Palin has become a polarizing figure in the Republican Party. Her passionate supporters are countered with equally fervent critics.

And even though it's been nearly a year since she ventured onto the national stage and more than eight months since the Republican ticket lost the election, as Palin prepares to leave office, the public's interest in her has yet to wane. Palin explains why she's stepping down

"She's kind of a shooting star that caught fire and kept burning," said Lorenzo Benet, an assistant editor for People magazine and author of "Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin."

"When she walks into a room, she definitely commands attention and she gets more than most. She's definitely a star," said Benet, who was the only national journalist to have spent much time with Palin in the weeks before she was announced as McCain's running mate.

Palin, a mother of five, "caught the imagination" of the public because there is no one else like her, Benet said. "Particularly for conservative America, there hasn't been a rallying figure of this type," he noted.

Benet's a bigger idiot than she is. I don't know how anyone can listen to her voice or the words that come out of her mouth. I don't like anything about her and never will.

She's right up there with Paris Hilton.....popular but with no intelligence. Palin will always be a sideshow spectacle.

unpolished, under-informed and someone that will walk away from a committment when bored. To me this is the new face of conservatives. Is she different? You Betcha!

All of my Republican friends and family are incredibly disappointed that this is the best their party has to offer. Sarah Palin proved very early that while she may be physically attractive, she's not very bright, can't speak a coherent English sentence, and blames everyone else for all of her mistakes.

They don't like the victim attitude, coupled with the arrogance and religious self-righteousness. The final blow for my Republican friends and family is the hypocrisy of a self-described "pit bull in lipstick" who not only quit before the end of her term as governor, but offered the most ridiculously transparent rationalizations for wanting to leave the boondocks of Alaska to bask in the glow of her new-found following.

And none of them will ever forget the ridicule she heaped on then-candidate Obama about how "all" he'd ever done was "write a book". This from a woman who is going to make millions on a bookdeal to have a ghostwriter (who can actually write English) pen her autobiography.

    Disgusting!

Hmm, maybe any politician who is in trouble should do what Sarah did. Quit, and then everyone will love 'em (at least according to this article).

"Particularly for conservative America, there hasn't been a rallying figure of this type"

With an unqualified, inarticulate dunce as the rallying figure for conservative America, it's no wonder the GOP is in a nosedive.

"When she walks into a room, she definitely commands attention and she gets more than most. She's definitely a star,"

So does Bozo the clown! She is not a star, what she is is a pretty dunce. Check out the majority of the people who support her, either they think her popularity can somehow turn into some kind of political gain (like Bush's did) or they never finished high school. The greatest nation in the world is going to be ran by the stupidest woman in America....puhleeze!

Palin is not a rising star......she and her family are a freak show. The public didn't demand to know everything about her life....it was shoved down our throats by the media overkill. Why is it this loser gets so much attention. Never mind news doesn't matter anymore...it's only the Hollywood gossip that most of the morons watching the news or reading the papers want. Go figure.

Okay here's a lady who went to five different colleges to obtain one degree that she spoke of in saying, "I used to have a journalist degree", to dumb to realize once you receive a degree you always have it..

She back in 2004 quit her job less than a year at the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation. Now, she quitting as governor, that says a lot about Sara. Education is what she lacks and need it badly to play in the field of politics. Repugs Party can get her as their pick, however, it will say alot about them.

Are you people crazy. Of course she hasn't left the building–there's money to be had and more people to dupe. She is NOT going anywhere.

She's the Britney Spears of politics. She has the hair extensions to prove it. Next thing is the melt down in the Encino hair salon where she hacks off her hair before she goes to sputter nonsense at the Reagan Library.

John... Ha ha ha. Nice bit of revisionist history but trust me because I am one of the liberals of which you speak. At no point were we ever in fear of Sarah Palin! You can think that if you want (I guess it makes you feel better?) but don't expect to say it without having someone point out how wrong you are. Let me reiterate: No libs were ever the least bit afraid of Sarah Palin! The whole idea is laughable.

She is a charming , intriquing person, perfectly lovely on the outside , but as my mama used to say, beauty is skin deep but ugly goes to the bone. And that is how I feel about Palin , she shows one thing but really is another by her actions. So we cannot judge a book by its cover , especially with this lady. So buyer beware .....
Some just cannot see through this gee whiz wink wink fasade she protrays.
But she has her fans , hey so does Rush , Bush , Cheney , Rowe, etc etc. If people are so inclined to support her , it is their loss , just hoping it will not be mine. This lady never completed a thing she started , she puts her interests first , and thinks about what she can gain from it all personally , not the people of her state and heaven forbid she would would pretend to care about the lower 48.
But what bothers me most about Palin , is the fact she is not intellectually qualified , she can take all the time off she wants but she cannot study up enough to be this country's President. When she opens her mouth she is a train wreck , the IQ just is not there. She can talk for 10 mins and she says nothing if left to her own imagination....she is a GOP joke. I want a second party but the GOP is not it any longer , they have very few true intellectuals left .

I do not understand the appeal she has for others.

To consider having her as a president or vice-president is like considering Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan for the same position.

    Just don't see it!

Why are any Palin articles filled with these posts with people saying "she is so over","move on", "Why is the media still talking about her"...etc

If she really didn't matter, if she really was not worth your time then you would nto stop and take time from your day to be sure and post every time. If you were to do that then the media would move on as the viewers and readers have moved on... Fact is that you just can't help yourselves :-)

What I find most enjoyable about these posts are the ones that state "Liberals are afraid of Sarah". Please Republicans, rally support and make this woman your 2012 nominee for President. We would welcome watching her debate President Obama. BTW – the Dow topped 9000 today and housing sales are up. Must be due to all those wonderful Republican ideas, right?
