The RNC will spend nearly $1 million on campaign activities over the next month to battle President Obama's health care plan.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Republican National Committee will spend nearly $1 million on campaign activities over the next month in an effort to cast doubt on President Obama's proposal to reform health care, a GOP official tells CNN.

The Republican campaign will include television commercials already running in Arkansas, Nevada and North Dakota and new radio ads announced Friday that will air in 33 states.

The RNC did not reveal Friday who the radio ads would target, but CNN has learned the 60 second commercials will run against 60 House Democrats.

"The Democrats targeted by the RNC radio ad have campaigned on fiscal responsibility, and now these Democrats are being held accountable to their campaign promises as they prepare to vote on a government-run health care bill that will cost American taxpayers $1.6 trillion, add to the record budget deficit and burden American families and small businesses with higher taxes," RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho told CNN.

In addition, the GOP will engage in tele-town hall meetings, Web ads, and other grassroots activity over the congressional recess, Gitcho said.

Now there's 3 words that instantly discredit a post if I ever saw 'em.

Spending a million dollars of our money to keep medical attention dependent on the enrichment of the financial elite.
Nice.

Reslugs, the party of NO, continue to shoot themselves in the foot with their selfishness, complete stupidity and racism.

John in WV   July 27th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

And where do you think this million is coming from. The same place many more millions are going to come from. But the insurance companies say they can't afford to make health care more affordable to working folks.

Realistic   July 27th, 2009 4:16 pm ET

I enjoy when republicans talk about the HealthCare issue. They talk like they read the bill and understand anything about anything. The only thing these republicans do is listen to pundits and proclaim it to be the truth. The republicans followers believe all the non-sense that is fed them and attempt to regurgitate as facts but most know its not. The republicans grab a line that has been spewed by hardcore conservatives and try to force feed everyone whose within arms length. They do not investigate it to make sure its fact or fiction because if they did, they would see how far from the facts they are.
We know we can not continue to do business as usual and if we do not do something our health care system, we will pay a heavy price. The republicans had eight years to do something about the health care issue but like always, they did nothing and want to continue to do nothing. So instead of working on a solution together and serve the people, they would rather spend 1 million on attacking the Health Care bill and the reason is simple, if they defeat the bill, they the republicans believe they will destroy the president. The republicans do not care if its a good bill or not because all they want is to attack the president so they can try to regain power.

The republicans want the public to believe that the free market system will resolve the Health Care issue, we tried that for eight years and we still have 37+ million people without Health insurance. It is time to try something else before its to late.

Linda   July 27th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

What these absolute morons, in the Reslug party, just refuse to get is that 76% of Americans want real change in our healthcare insurance.

Bob   July 27th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

All of this is part one of a two-part "straw man" argument that the Repugnicans are hoping will make them look good while they do nothing but nay-say.

Part one is to say "It will be too expensive and it won't work – what government-run system is EVERY any good!?!?!?!"

Part two is to claim that allowing a government-run option will put many of the present insurer's out of business as well as screw the physicians out of fees and the patients out of services.

So on the one hand it will be too expensive and won't get people what they need or want, yet on the other hand it will be sooo good that everyone will flock to it and the other choices will die off.

This sort of rhetoric sounds like it was crafted by the people who spearheaded the last few months of the McCain/Palin debacle. Sad thing is, a lot of people suck this tripe up and don't even notice the mutually exclusive claims.

Teena in Denver   July 27th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Hey "Obama Victim" what is is with the destroy Obama message? You would have been crying foul if someone would have posted that about Bush!
This is not a game of football–this is someone's life your messing with, the lives of all the AMERICANS who do not have health insurance. Maybe we should worry about them rather than sending tax dollars over seas to promote democracy!

Pete   July 27th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Time to donate to the DNC again.

Kenney in Albany   July 27th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

Nearly 1 Million dollars to fight against providing health care for the multitudes of Americans that have lost coverage during the recession. Another million of a 'non-operational' projects. When is this SPEND, SPEND, SPEND mentality of our politicians going to show positive results?

coffic   July 27th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

I don't know what half of these comments mean. Complaints about no GOP health reform plan–google it–the same way you found and read the Dem. plan, or, are you not reading bills or plans, but, rather, listening to what others say–educate and think for yourselves. Spend RNC $$ on healthcare? Do you not know the functions of the DNC and RNC? Now, ACORN could help families with healthcare $$. Have they? Complaining that the Repubs want to take it slow to get it right–what is wrong with that? Do you think we should rush to enact a bill which is all wrong? Obama came out 2 days ago and used those very words–go slow and get it right. I won't speculate as to his motives for saying that, but he has up until now been trying to get this passed pronto.

voter   July 27th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

For republicans to tout being pro-life, I don't understand how they can be aganist universal healthcare. People are dying daily for illnesses that can be cured if they had helathcare. It is shameful.

OH IO   July 27th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

There is no better alternative folks – Health Care is NOT a right! Get used to it – or move to Europe and stand in line in the ER.

Shingo   July 27th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

I amazed at the RNC spending $ 1 million on campaign activities in one month to cast doubt on Obama over health reform! Instead of working on a plan in time and energy they play childish games with peoples lives, health, not to mention hurting the economy just to get at Obama. In the end the RNC can be remembered in history in either two ways: 1) standing up for their constiuents, their health, and the economy... or 2) They can do nothing and that is what history will remember about them... nothing.

Bob   July 27th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

While the parties in-fight and the idiots on this board quibble, the $53-trillion asteroid that is the cost of Medicare and Social Security support looms ever closer (read Glenn Beck: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/26/beck.deficit/index.html). EVERY administration that has tried to fix health care has thrown itself on its sword in the attempt. The Repugnicans are hoping this will be the case for the Obama admin. To the current administration's credit, they're tackling it NOW – this is good, because all the politicking to kill it (and them in the process) is going to slow it way down. Sadly, much of the noise is NOT about fixing the bill or making it better. It's about sticking it to the other party so as to be in power the next time around. Meanwhile, the catastrophic collision with future debts gets nearer, and nearer...and everyone is pretending THEY'LL fix it if THEY get in next term.

J. L. W.   July 27th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

It has been reported that the insurance companies made a deal with the administration which will allow them to make millions if the health plan goes through as it is today. That is why they are behind it and spending millions to get it passed. Guess who pays? The tax payers.

the Question everyone should ask; why isn't CNN and the rest of the
the media checking this out to see if it is true? When people wake up they are going to be shocked to find that Obama and his Czars will
be making an effort to control not only Wall Street, the banks, the auto industry, health insurance, but every aspect of Americans life.

Kwesoe   July 27th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

The USA builds the best hospitals in countries around the globe, spends billions on HIV/AIDS medications for Africa's poor but here at home, Republicans want to withhold healthcare from Americans. SHAME!

changing my screen name to see if it helps getting my comments posted   July 27th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

I'm an economist that specializes in the health industry so I think I'm going to add my two cents to this. I am by no means pleased with Obama's plan as it currently is. But to make things perfectly clear, I'd rather quit my job, lose my employer based health insurance and then jump in front of a bus before I'd trust the GOP's plans for health care reform.

Their ideas are the same as always, tax cuts and reduce regulation to 'promote' competition. The health industry is the absolute worst industry to have no regulation and expect the free-market to make things hunky-dorry. There are literally dozens of market failures in the health industry that make a pure capitalistic, free-market system a very bad idea. Text book examples of the free-market system that the GOP worships do not exist ANYWHERE in the real world.

Anonymous   July 27th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Anyone who thinks the Republicans haven't come up with an alternative is just ignorant.

I am so sick of this talk about the GOP being "anti-American" or unpatriotic. It's not about the parties, it's about different ways to achieve health care for everyone. The GOP just doesn't want to see government take it over.

In what government-run programs are there not issues with waste and inefficiency? I am all for health care for those that can't afford it, but I'm also for helping them get the skills they need to earn a living and pay for it themselves.

Republicans are not evil, but I will point out that capitalism raises EVERYONE'S standard of living.

I'm not even Republican–just sick of the nastiness of partisanship. Forget the name-calling and pettiness and stop being so hateful. It makes you know better off then you claim they are.

bill   July 27th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

I thought that GOP needs more time to get the health reform done right. At least that what they claim publically. So why they Rush into decision to advertise against any kind of health reform? People wake up. These are the same people who destroyed our economy and reputation in world over last 8 years. And when someone snows up to clean their mess, instead of helping, they are shamelessly trying to kill anything that would help an average American.

John   July 27th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

We will keep in mind the politicans who try to shoot this down, you are no longer a rep for the people and we will do everything in our power to GET YOU OUT OF WASHINGTONYOU WORK FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!! This is plain stupid! Republicans are a waste of air!!! GET THEM OUT THEY WILL BE HISTORY!!That you can count on!

This is what the birther need to be worried about. The lack of healthcare.

MJ   July 27th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Wake Up America – This plan will destroy Health Care. If you are elderly than just be content to have "pain pills", not life-saving surgery. Why? It didn't work for Mary and now government states it wont work for you. So your government will have to make the "tough decisions". Why are so many acting so "stupidly" in favor of this? Have you not listened to what this bill involves? You really want government to decide what your course of treatment should be? Look out overweight – today a few new pages have been added.

adamandkanani   July 27th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Way to waste money while people starve in this country or die without healthcare. Losers!

David   July 27th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

1 million dollars wasted. Why can't they just provide a better plan, want a waste of money and effort.

TomfromNJ1   July 27th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

And if any of those listed think for a minute that if they vote against the bill then the GOP will let them off the hook and they can coast to victory, then they are fools. All good politicians should vote for a single-payer system. Then, if it does not pass, they can point to any people who voted against it and tell people these are the ones who prevented you from having good health care. I would be willing to help in the campaign AGAINST anyone, Democrat or Republican who dares vote against it.

William Kristol was at least truthful when he was quoted as saying that his GOP should never let this go through because if it did, the people would like it so much that would elect the Democrats for years to come out of gratitude. He is correct and THAT is why they are willing to spend $1,000,000 against it. It's as simple as that.

Glennis   July 27th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

If this bill is so good, why can't they not only take the time to read it, but explain it point by point to us...the people who will be affected by their foolish haste? If this bill is so good, why will they and their families not be forced into it? I don't trust something that even one of the pushers says he can't read without time and a couple of lawyers to help him understand it. We're being railroaded into an unhealthy healthcare disaster.

TomfromNJ1   July 27th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

Ask yourself why someone would be willing to spend $1 million to stop health insurance reform. Could it be that they stand to gain more than $1 million from the insurance industry if they maintain the status quo? And why would the insurance industry be willing to part with more than $1 million to help politicians that help maintain the status quo? Might it be that they stand to earn even more than that if the status quo is maintained? Finally, ask yourself if the insurance industry does enough to add value to society to justify the enormous rewards to which they help themselves. We would be better served by universal, non-profit health insurance.

Suzan   July 27th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Sure the republicans don't want to make any changes to the Health care they are in bed with the drug companies, the insurance companies and they don't want to give that up, just like they are all tied up with the NRA.....they are not for the people of this country they could care less whether any of us have health care ....... just as long as no one mess up their Government provided Health Care ....... maybe that is what they are so afraid of.....they will have to have to give up their Gov. provided Health care .......GOP is for themselves and NO one else

vegage   July 27th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

I am not surprised at all to see republicans doing this. After all they do not want to the system to be changed because their most important contituents, which are not the average people but the big interests and the rich don't want a health care reform.

Scot   July 27th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

Everybody's an expert!!!!!

What are you Liberals talking about?   July 27th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Our president is flying across the country and has been for weeks to convince everyone on his health care plan. He brings his staff with him. He brings his security with him. Do you think that's free?? Add his TV, radio and internet ads to this. This all costs money

The Republicans are getting the word out for their end of the health care reform. They are doing it the same way our president is doing it, by spending money. Don't be so hypocritical as is the case most of the time with the left side.

Regards

ThomThumb CO   July 27th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

Why is the GOP so scared of reform........they're insurance buddies will have to get out there and actually COMPETE, that's why! Competition drives down prices and they know it.

We've been sold a bill of goods, folks. "Unhealthy Americans are the reason prices are so high"...yeah, yeah. They do it because they can't, that's the only reason. Why do you think the GOP is fighting this so hard? You can't be so stupid as to believe they're genuinely interested in fixing healthcare. Status quo is far too profitable for too many of them.

Ethan   July 27th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

The funny thing is that the Public Option is KEY to reducing insurance costs.

That's why the Insurance Salesmen... um, I mean Republicans and corporate Blue Dogs... are against it.

You either want to reduce costs or you don't. Pick one.

Everyone is for Quality Healthcare and availability and access reform. I want to see a bi-partisan bill. The Repubs really do have good ideas that were shunned for many many years. We need to put all ideas on the table and merge from both sides. It should never be my way or the highway. Not for something this big and important.

THE MEDIA IS THE MASTER   July 27th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Teena in Denver   July 27th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

It would have been nice if the RNC would have spent $1 million in finding out if there were really WMD's in Iraq before jumping on the bandwagon with their president. Just think of what the AMERICAN public could have had with all of those dollars spent in Iraq!!
So, of course the party of WAR wants to use money to STOP health-care instead of funding health care or even hiring someone to fashion a health care plan–is this twisted logic or what?!

blue boy   July 27th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

The sad thing is most liberals and democrats are to ignorant to read and understand the bill. They start to bobble thier heads forward when Obama speaks and would rubberstamp anything he says. At least republicans have slowed this down so the great Obama cant speed it through and cram it down our throats.. Do you dems even realize that that Obama wants to give free insurance to 10,000,000 illegal aliens at taxpayer expense? I know you think rich folks can pay the bills but thats only in Obama's world of unicorns and rainbows.

obummer, 1 and done (thank God!)   July 27th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Dimocrats need to learn something other than saying the republicans have no new ideas. Obviously, they must not know how to read if they think that is true. They just continue to blindly follow like abunch of sheep.

Thank God for the so called party of No.

I also say no to idiotic legislation proposed without thinking it through and without looking at the consequences. didn't the dimocrats learn what that does by what they did to the banking industry? Sure it looks great now, but it will end up the same way their relaxing of lending requirments did to the banking industry. Is the dimocratic goal to completely destroy America?

Can they for once think intelligently instead of by polls???

Alan   July 27th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

It's a shame to have to spend a dime. Most people with any common sense knows that this plan is a dud.

I won't work and it cost about 10 times more than it should!!

Katie   July 27th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

This is so pathetic. What a waste. Why do Republicans have this vendetta against Obama? I hate the lies they spread and the people who believe them. They are NOT interested in the well-being of our country, they are only interested in blocking Obama's policies. I actually saw a TV commercial last week that featured such classy phrases as 'Do you want the government to take away your insurance? Do you want to be forced to see a doctor mandated by the government?' etc. Very nice. Lies, lies, lies.

For anyone who supports our much-needed health care reform, please join groups such as Democracy for America, Healthcare for America Now, Firedog Lake, Bold Progressives, Organizing for America, etc. Sign petitions, call your senators, donate if you can/want (every little bit helps). Our families should not have to suffer any longer.

Bryan   July 27th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

1 Million is small change compared to what the Republicans will get kicked in to their reelection funds by the medical insurance companies.

I love the ad that says "do you want a bureaucrat making decisions about your coverage?" oh goodness no please let me have an insurance company executive who is focused on his ability to cut costs and pay for as little as possible to keep his bonuses up.

We all know that corporate executives from WorldCom to Enron are only looking out for the good of the country.

Carlos L. Harrisburg PA   July 27th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

rand   July 27th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

The GOP and the INSURANCE industry will pay for this smear campaign.

Sorry guys, the American public has caught on to your continuing scare tactics. People are more worried about getting proper health care than buying into some fabricated paranoia. The GOP has nothing to bring to the table and nothing to offer. It is a party that is self imploding.

white female   July 27th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Now this a a GREAT EXAMPLE of someone acting STUPID.
These people the party of NO, the Repbubs, I am sure can find a money to keep trying to stop this Prez, and his Admin. but all at the sametime keep saying OH HE IS SPENDING TO MUCH MONEY, ON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Give me a break repub's get a life and go find some new jobs. Because you don't deserve to have the one you have been elected to do. Go home to the back woods where you belong. Enough, is Enough with the hate and foolishness from grown men and women.

ADO   July 27th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Why is all this money being wasted on negative publicity? Dosn't the RNC realize that there are millions of unemployed/underemployed Americans who simply cannot make ends meet and see no way out of this health & economic crisis!
"We the People" need help not hinderance

Emily, Denver CO   July 27th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Typical of the GOP. ..lie and distract. People are really hurting and all they care about is continuing to pad their pockets with money from the pharmaceutical and "healthcare" industries. They along with the blue dogs should be publicly shamed.

The reason the didn't want healthcare reform "rushed" is because they're hoping the American people forget about it and they can then call this Obama's biggest failure................NOT GONNA HAPPEN!! Don't be fooled by them, they couldn't care less about costs; it only sounds nice. They're only fiscally conservative when a Dem is in the White House!

Sergey - Chicago, IL   July 27th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

It has NOTHING to do with whats actually best for the public!!!!

Donna A. Reuter, Bremerton, WA   July 27th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

So the Republican members of Congress does not want to comply with their duties as mandated by Article I, Section Eight, Clause One of the Constitution of the USA "to provide for the general welfare of the USA" by giving the nation universal health care. I am a civil servant of the United States of America and I took the very samo oath of office that Members of Congress has taken, I am expected to be in full compliance and I demand that the Republicans do the very same thing.

Republicans are engaging in criminal negligent conduct by allowing Americans (who pay for their health care benefits with their taxes) to die of not being able to afford health insurance, let alone to see a doctor and get life-saving medical treatment. How does a single mother, who works two part-time jobs without benefits, with breast cancer suppose to pay for the $160,000.00 treatment that will save her life? Since the Republicans don't want national health care, then they need to legalize prostitution.

JD   July 27th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Better that $1 million be spent now to prevent this socialist debacle than to wake up tomorrow and find our children saddled with another TRILLION dollars in debt for another failed experiment in socialist lunacy.

The proposed "health care reform" is nothing but a waste of time, money and effort that will only reduce the quality of health care while making it more expensive. Anyone want to see government-run health care in action? Just look at your local post office, the VA and Walter Reed!!

Marlene   July 27th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

It's to bad that the Republicans don't spend their 1 million dollars promoting a plan developed and promoted by the GOP. Still more of the same – just say NO! No plan of their own. Surely voters are smart enough to not listen to fear mongering, and at least wait for the senate/house conference committee, before deciding whether or not the proposal is bad/good.

Great news. Because Obama and Pelosi are not being honest about their plan. Glad to see some of the media are also catching onto the dems games.

Right Leaning Independent   July 27th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

GOP has requested tort reform and it keeps being shot down by the Dems. The high priced Democrat lawyers make all of their money off this so this is off limits. If you limit the amounts that a jury can award, malpractice insurance would be less, doctors would not prescribe so many unnecessary tests because they are afraid that they may be sued for missing something and health care costs could come down! The majority of Americans are against this plan so I am glad that the Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans are banding together to be the American Party of NO! They see right through the Democrats healthcare power grab. Not to mention that we can not afford it after the waste of money by the Dems on the useless stimulus program and automotive bailouts!

Dave   July 27th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

These are the Republican tactics now: make a big deal out of saying "No" to everything. Then they sit back and hope things fail, so they can say "We told you so" later on.

It's a pretty cowardly-but-safe plan. If things work out, nobody will care much that the Republicans opposed them, and if they don't, they'll try to point to these old ads. Only thing is, they're saying "no" to *everything*. The country's in trouble and they're not doing anything to help. And people may remember THAT. If not, I *will* be reminding them.

liberal but not a democrat in NYC   July 27th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

The GOP is saying that a government is putting a government bureaucrat between the patient and the doctor. Guess what? We already have an insurance bureaucrat there. As health care costs rise, government funded public health coverage is the most viable solution.

Oh yeah, and the GOP campaigns on lowering costs for American families while wanting to keep a system that does the exact opposite.

David   July 27th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

I love how someone said republicans/conservatives are idiots and dems/liberals are all well educated, thats hilarious. You do realize that the large majority of the dem's votes come from the poverty stricken "uneducated" demographics right? I agree that this isn't smart spending on the side of the RNC, but it isn't worthless, hopefully it will make people think twice about supporting socialist health-care. Why should a young healthy adult pay for someone who's smoked and drank all their lives health care??? If I am smart and take care of my body and health why should I pay for irresponsible Americans??? How about you think before you comment, being vocal about how wrong this health-care reform is a GOOD thing. I will also agree with your likely rebuttal that the GOP aren't offering any other answers in return (lets be honest ,do they ever??), but just because there isn't currently another option, does that make a worse choice the right choice?? No!

HD   July 27th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Amazing. Instead of offering a better ideas, the Republicans spend a million dollars to attack. This is why the country is a mess. Both parties need to focus on rebuilding the country and stop playing games just to gain power. Enough already, just fix the system.

Jordan in San Marcos   July 27th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

It would be great if they'd spend their resources on offering a solution of their own instead of attacking the only people who actually seem interested in solving problems.

Wake UP! This is about choice. Healthcare should be a choice! Being an Americans means freedom of choice. It is not a republican or democrat thing! Obama Care is not the answer! Only 4% of Americans are without healthcare. So, the other 96% should suffer? Health Care is a priviledge and if Obama Care passes then 96% of Americans will suffer. Doctors will flee the USA so fast and no one will be willing to go to med school. There is no reason to go to med school. Universities will see less students. This will ruin the greatest health care system in the world. Universal Health care is not the answer! Wake up America! Stop drinking the Obama Kool Aid!

Ken in NC   July 27th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Insurance companies are contributing to Republicans so they can fight against the Health Care Reform. Now consider that the RNC is spending one million dollars to fight Reform. We know that is a small drop in the bucket they are donating to Republicans and to the party. Now if you consider that this huge sum contributed to these Representatives by the Insurance Industry are deducted from their operating cost and thereby increasing their profits. It is smart for them to do this. It is all about their bottom line. All they are concerned about are profits. If you consider all of these things, maybe you will realize how much this country is being raped by the Insurance Industry.

Ry guy   July 27th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Hey! its nice to see the republicans have money to throw away while the nation is trillons in debt... hmmm maybe they should give back to the country? help pay the debt...

Pat   July 27th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Joe, just a quick lesson. State law enforcement and rescue are not socialized. They are public services paid for by state and local governments. We don't pay for your police and you don't pay for ours. What we don't want is the power over everyone's health care localized in Washington D.C. Health care is a good not a right. You need food and water to live but the government does not provide it to everyone. A right cannot be purchased it is inherent. Health care on the other hand can be purchased in an effort to improve the qualify of your life. Insurance is another matter entirely and not for day to day typical care and prevention. It is your responsiblity to save and plan for a potential medical problem; not productive society's. If you cannot afford care reach out to a local religious community or charity.

Lynne   July 27th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

I sincerely hope that everyone in favor of health insurance reform contacts their congressional representatives to remind them that we, the people, demand the same level of health benefit coverage that our congressional representatives enjoy.

Flood their offices with emails, phone calls, etc. Make your voices heard!

Travis In Colorado   July 27th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

Let's not forget that the Democrats have the majority in Congress, and even THEY aren't voting for this. If Obama's own party won't go for it, why should the Republicans? Republicans have become the party of NO only because they are voting against Obama's bad ideas. The ideas from Obama cost too much and don't really do anything useful.

PA Voter   July 27th, 2009 3:28 pm ET

"Just Say No" was fine for Nancy Reagan, but not on health care.

Honestly I'm not 100% sold on the bill released by the House and I would love to look at a GOP alternative to the Dem plan, but it doesn't look like one is forthcoming and the status quo is simply unacceptable. Dems by default.

Lou from CT   July 27th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Florida Joe   July 27th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

has the GOP yet to state an valid alternative to President Obama's healthcare plan? seems to me that $1 million dollars would go a long way to either develop a plan or support / better define the one being offered. The GOP has really stepped out so far that there is no return. Regardless of what the President does they find fault and still offer no valid resolutions. Spend a million to cast doubt without a suitable resolution ... Wonder what this country would be like if McCain had won the election.

OK, let's compare here:

- 1 Million dollars to make Americans aware of this distasterous piece of legislation which will LIMIT helathcare choices, RAISE taxes, and INCREASE unemployment all the while DESTROYING the best healthcare (the actual services) IN THE WORLD.

OR

- 1.5 TRILLION dollars Obama and Pelosi want to spend to ruin America.

Answer me this, libs who say we should have a system like Canada or England. Why is it that when people there need the best possible treatment, they come to AMERICA? Can't answer that one, can ya.

Yeah, I can see why you libs are complaining about this.

Peter   July 27th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

There goes the NO Party again! you are talking about 1.6 trillion dollars now! just wait for another 5 years and the 1.6 trillion we could have used now will be 2.3 trilllion or more. If the health care reform was inplemented back in the year 1992 the cost could have been much lower than 1.6 trillion. With all respects to all hard working Americans! GOP has no new ideas its the same oh same oh. Preach fiscal responsibility were you are driving the economy to the gutter!. The No party has lost the moral authority to talk on my behalf. Infact the money you are using on health care campaign can be better used with giving schoolarship to your base which is least educated tobacco chewing idiots in the United States of America!!

Even worse is having government health care we pay for and trying to stop us from paying for health care as a group through the government?? It is appearent the GOP hasn't got the general public at heart, just there own politics.

Yeah, that's the state of OUR healthcare system... we leave the masses ignorant of just what refined sugar (corn syrup) does to you if you suck it down from birth and create diabetic, obese, unhealthy kids who grow up and cannot afford healthcare.

Can you imagine what a little preventative and informative healthcare and education for the poor from birth would do in the long run?

Oh, wait, that's right... the rich corporation owners don't want you to live very long.

Rick in OP   July 27th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

Obama and the Democrats are terrified of the prospect that they will not be able to quickly pass health care legislation without the American people knowing what is in it or how much it will cost. These tactics are not unlike those employed by used car salesman….get the sucker’s money before they have a chance to figure out what they are buying.
They got the $787 billion stimulus bill through without anyone reading it. That is not going to happen this time.
Wait until Labor Day, by that time the details and cost of the health care plan will be more widely known. When that does occur, Obama and the Democrats poll numbers will really sink.

Someone needs to cast doubt. This is a ridiculous plan that will bring ruination to health care as we know it. Yes all people need health insurance. This I have no problem with. Why not the government just set up a program to filter through these people and provide aide when aide is apporpriate and make them pay whatever is apporpriate to their income. This providing health care to every individual that walks into the Emergency Room will free health care at the taxpayers expense is bunk. But A OVERHAUL WE DON'T NEED OR WANT.

In mid 19th century there were land-barons and peasants-the barons got rich on the backs of the peasants and peasants were expendable. America is now there. Our congress is filled with land-barons-or hope to be land-barons. The largest contributors to the Republican party include pharmaceuticals and insurance and others who benefit from rich men "Lindsey Graham like philosophies" My betis that not one percent of congressmen have people in their families without insurance. Our policies are abhorrent and cause America to lose on the international trade scene. $1.6 trillion is small compared to foreign expenditures. As "baby boomers" become older the cost to this country will be great. Democrats-"step yo came up"-get this thing figured out; Republicans-either help figure it out or get out of the way.

Wait...so the repubs have all that money they made from the fundraiser going to these crazy ads...attacking the dems more for political gains?! They are spending all this money in vain...our tax money to attack the dems for a spot in 2012...great job.

The dems are working to re-review the bill before it passes and making sure they can make the right changes for the people. The republicans are working hard to put up campaign ads to attack the dems...offering no solution to the public...no resolution to the tension on this subject. WOW!

Ted D   July 27th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Hmm, I wonder why we're having such difficulty finding revenue to pay for health care reform that everyone, Republicans and Democrats alike, agree is necessary. Could it be that we don't have the money because the Republican "leadership" just spent a trillion dollars on an unnecessary war in Iraq? Or might it be that their failed deregulation policies just necessitated a nearly billion dollar bailout of the financial industry?

So what's the consequence of this Republican incompetence? People will continue to go bankrupt and literally die for lack of adequate health care coverage. Now they have the audacity to oppose the president's plan for a public health option? I could not agree more that government cannot competently manage a health care system – but only if it's run by the Republicans, who want nothing more than for government to fail! These people need to be given the boot in 2010!

VAisforLovers   July 27th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Instead of crying about the cost, why won't they come up with an alternative?

xargaw   July 27th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

The GOP is on the wrong side of the health care issue. People may not yet know the specifics of the reform effort, nor may agree on the details of what is needed, but nearly 3/4s of the nation want a public option and sweeping healthcare reform. Everyone knows that costs are too high, too many people are left out and that insurance horror stories of barbaric porportion happen all the time. The GOP mantra of NO and OBSTRUCTION to anything not GOP originiated is adolescent, cruel and selfish. Americans are in serious pain medically and financially and the GOP only cares about playing the game of politics. They leave themselves with absolutely nothing to admire and much to scorn.

Bush should have said, "I won't raise taxes, but we're going to be borrowing 10 BILLION a month for Iraq for the foreseeable future. Don't worry. The Decider knows what's best." And the Rushers would have swallowed it whole. But heaven forbid we spend money on our own people! What IS the matter with Republicans? And they call themselves Christian?

bob in LA   July 27th, 2009 1:56 pm ET

What does it say when a group- either side- spends money to campaign against or for reform?
Sit in a room- TALK – discuss- argue – but work out a plan to help us!
Everything else is ....non-sense!
Cancel the insurance for our congress and let's see how quickly we come up with a great comprehensive plan for Americans!
At least make them live under the same plan they come up with.

Peter E   July 27th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

Don't forget the millions the health insurance corporations also spend on advertisement on main stream media! You'll never get a truly fair or factual coverage of the health care crisis when the $3 trillion industry outspends you and buys the corporate media as well.

Chas in Iowa   July 27th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

If they weren't in the pockets of the lobbyists they use to try for re-election they could concentrate on real reform instead of trying to protect the mega profits from the pharmaceutical companies and Insurance companies.
I'd like to see them put the American public first once instsead of the lobbyists.
If they could get over their fixation with making a bundle from lobbyists
They could get a lot more support from the public that used to vote Republican. I was a firm solid Republican until the mega corporations took over the party in the name of profits.

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   July 27th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

And the GOP has proposed what type of health plans in the past or currently?

Of course, none, because they are busy running interference for the doctors, insurance and pharmaceutical companies and health providers.

donttreadonme   July 27th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

As Obama said during a discussion about his stimulus package " I won" Remember you don't need Republican support?

Dems you have the ball...go ahead and run.

Sensible dems don't buy into this joke of a healthcare plan.

annie s   July 27th, 2009 1:51 pm ET

Talk about a waste of funds. A million dollars to scare the American people with a bunch of untrue scenarios. There was a time in my life when I didn't follow a strict party line – now I vote strictly for "anyone who is not a Republican"

Jamey   July 27th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

A 100 million dollar ad campaign full of lies and distortion...maybe it will work! It did last time. It is telling though, the GOP has 100 million that they could use for the good of the country, but they choose to spend it tearing the USA down.

nea-nea   July 27th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

I donot believe anything these Republicans say becaus I KNOW they are against healthcare Reform anyway so they will say anything to try to put fear in people. just last nite i was a watching a little of Hannity and he was using the same fear tastics the tiltle of the show was universal nightmare. The republicans say that this healthcare reform is a government takeover i found out that was a lie.because it offers healthcare to. only Indivuals, The Self Employed and Small businesses, not to everyone. And also the Republicans says it will run Private Insurance co. out but thats not whats its design to do its about keeping them honest. And they support the insurance companies anyway so they are going to be against it, just as some Democrats support them.

Soxfan   July 27th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

I think that the American people as a whole are sick of the Republicans just trying to cut back any effort of reform. We are entering a new era with new problems and and the status quo just doesn't cut it anymore...I have no problem with dissenting opinions. But the negativity from the GOP has to stop. Use that 1 million to make your own plan if you feel that strongly about it. Wasn't this country founded on the basis of compromise? Bring something to the table and stop arguing...debate is always more productive when both parties concede somewhat to what the other one wants.

gl, From Pittsburgh   July 27th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

These birthers all fit the same profile: uneducated whites that revere the likes of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. They are the ones who think a woman that took 6 years and dropped out of college 5 times is accomplished and qualified to be President. They hate Hispanics, Blacks, Indians and blame them for their lack of accomplishments. If the GOP finds these people to be an important element of their party, then they are embracing their eventual demise. The racist birthers turn educated Independents away from the once promising GOP party.

Limbaugh is a liberal   July 27th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

They try to scare you into thinking it's government taxes that will destory family budgets and small businesses. The fact is that in the last two decades the excessively deregulated health care industry has multiplied its fees several fold, robbing everyone of their hard earned money. They have already destroyed thousands of small businesses and millions of families with their profit mongering. It is THEY who have bureaucrats who stand between the doctors and you, denying you needed services. Funny how they try to scare you into thinking it's anybody BUT them doing that. It's a lie and hypocrisy! But then again Americans are always more forgiving towards billionaire corporate CEOs than the government. Because they're rich, we shouldn't criticize them nor hold them accountable!

Lori reminds the GOP that they're STILL only 20Something % of the American people. Stop blogging under multiple names!   July 27th, 2009 1:42 pm ET

Can someone please tell me what the GOP's plan is?

Kevin in Ohio   July 27th, 2009 1:42 pm ET

Health care reform without Tort reform will not work. We need to quit lining the pockets of each and every excess lawyer...then malpractice premiums and unnecessary testing will be reduced. THEN we can talk about the role government might play. Republicans are offering sound fiscal alternatives, Blue Dog democrats, in the spirit of bi-partisanship, are listening. Obama and Pelosi and Reid might do well to start listening as well.

LoLo   July 27th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

It is hard to get people to step out of the box. They are so use to the same old thing that they will never try anything different and this is the republicans. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. I really believe that the republicans are being paid off. They have always believed that they are better than anyone else, especially the ones who do not have and that is within their own party as well. You see how the C Street haven was ran. These people are nothing but devils. They smile in your face and then will backstab you later. Let's vote them out in 2010. This also includes the old democrats. These people have been enjoying the perks too long. Let us vote all of the good old boys out of office. Time for new young blood all around.

Dave   July 27th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

How many ways can you say "no" with $1 mill. RNC?
The party of NO continues....

Chut Pata   July 27th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

I am sure all the companies making trillions of dollars in profit by health-care scams will unofficially spend atleast billions to save their trillions. GOP is run by Corporate America. Despite the Oil Mafia being booted from White House, they are still powerful enough to not let GM make fuel efficient cars.

Terry from Texas   July 27th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

Let us clarify what they are planning is a one million dollar campaign to prevent America from solving any of its health care problems. The Conservative (Republican) Party wants each and every initiative of this administration to fail.

If the American middle class and lower classes suffer as a result, then that is just acceptable collateral damage as far as our Conservative leaders are concerned.

To them, the purpose of politics is for them to be in power. Once in power, their twin goals are increased power and greater wealth for themselves. That is not to say they want to increase the power and wealth of middle class Repubican voters. Those suckers are only useful on election day. The rest of the time, their only function is to applaud their leaders.

kevin   July 27th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

The Party of NO..........is spending $1 Million to say no louder.
Maybe they should have paid for Palin's Wardrobe outside of the

RN   July 27th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

I just found an old fund raising letter from our Church from 2003 that acknowledges our poor economy ("we know how difficult it is to contribute in the current economy"). Yet, everyone here is complaining that the economy was great until the Dems were the majority in Congress (Jan 2007). Why hasn't Obama "Fixed" the economy yet, why hasn't he gotten everyone jobs?

Obama has been in office for 6 months.
Maybe we should ask why you haven't completed college and medical school and law school and business school yet? and why haven't YOU solved all your own problems?
Obama was left a mess that will require years to fix. Think before you post – let's get some thoughtful discussion here – not just a lot of uninformed whining.

Bev - NYC   July 27th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

One million to say NO rather than coming up with a plan of their own, or god forbid working with Democrats to improve the plan on the table for all Americans regardless or paty identification. Republican stupidity knows no bounds. The folks in Washington against this plan have health care, paid for by you the taxpayers. I wonder why Messers. Boehner, Cantor & Reid they don't want to rest of us to have something they get for free on our dime. How many medical bills could this million have paid off for the elderly. How many movable medical or dental trucks would this money have purchased to take care to those in one stop light towns?

Limbaugh is a liberal   July 27th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

Can't republicans use that $1 million to actually come up with a viable alternative plan? So far their 'alternative' plan was a 3 page outline, with NO cost estimates, and 80% of its points were stolen verbatim from Obama's plan. Republicans are unthinking whiners. When they come up with actual plans we will listen. Until then, they deserve being ignored!

Roger from CA   July 27th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

I curse these cretins. Health care reform is the single most imperative domestic issue of our times. It is morally and ethically repugnant to stand in the way of real health care reform for the sake of scoring political points.

Peter E   July 27th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

The democrat plan is $1 trillion over ten years, covering at least a fifth of Americans. The current privatized health industry is robbing ALL Americans of $3 trillion EVERY YEAR. If Americans want to be truly fiscally conservative, they'd target corporate BUREAUCRACY the same way they do for government. Oh, but it's okay for corporations to rob you of your money for their BUREAUCRACY, but not for government? That's double-standards and hypocrisy!

God bless America   July 27th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

How 'bout spending that 1 million on helping the uninsured instead?

talk about wasteful spending. sheesh!

Peter E   July 27th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

That's one million out of several the $3 trillion health care industry spent buying up these politicians. It's all about profits. Screw the common man. Health corporations want to make sure nothing gets in the way of their overpriced BUREAUCRACY (about 30% of your fees go to their BUREAUCRATS) that DENIES you needed services. They don't want any competition on that! Private industry tauting that 'nothing stands between your doctor and you' is the biggest red faced lie of the past one hundred years! The vast majority of our federal government programs don't have a 30% multi-layered bureaucratic overhead that these corporations do now!

Thinking Straight   July 27th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

If derailing universal health care is not anti-America then what is? Spending billions to fight wars appears to be more important to the GOP than the health of the Americam people. WAKE UP AMERICA!

Stop the Hate   July 27th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

Obama Victim, get a life. The RFs (Repub Fascists) are going to find a way to destroy health care and bring back their dissenting and Bush-apologetic rhetoric to our faces so we can lose money, crash the market, and put us in a Egalitarian Dictatorship. We need health carem but the Grand Fascist Party is going to stop them at their own cost. Lobbyists are going to be Obama's obstacle but he can handle it. If you don't like it, go to Russia!

Matt   July 27th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Oh but it was Obama who started two wars, printed huge amounts of money and added to the deficit right? from 2000-06 The Republicans controlled the white house and all of congress, from that point they contributed to the deficit far more than Obama could ever dream of furthermore the gipper ( good old ron) contributed about another 3.5 trillion in the arms race, which was money well spent by a so-called conservative. But yeah go ahead and make that arguement Obama is bad, he possibly cant be worse than the gipper or any of the bushes.

Bedtime for Obonzo   July 27th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

This is great! Obama campaigned as a "post partisan" candidate, who would rise above party labels and bring everyone on board his programs as partners. Now, the most partisan president in recent history is experiencing bipartisanship - in the OPPOSITION.

Melissa   July 27th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

The only reason they are committing anything is so they can try to convince people that they should keep the status quo. Say no to the Republicans. Support change in the health care system.

Hugo   July 27th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

Wouldn't it be a more cost effective move to just post the bill with a synopsis of the legal meanings of each line item on line for people to read? For anyone to blindly want the House and Senate to pass this thing without first knowing all the dirty little details is plain stupid! Does anyone really want a bureaucrat deciding your healthcare needs? Why doesn't DC take a look at the true cause of our healthcare insurance costs? The problem is the same as with almost every other business and industry now left in the United States. It is called LAWYERS! In my lifetime I have seen the lawyers initiate public advertising of their "skills" and seen the commensurate increase in insurance premiums as related to nearly every aspect of our society. Regulate Lawyers not Physicians and the American Public!

Reformed Republican   July 27th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

You can bet your next health insurance premium that these "dis-infomercials" from the obstructionists will be full of fear, smears, outright lies and lame bleatings about how health care reform will be the end of the free world as we know it.
Any takers?

Christina   July 27th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

Here is the difference between a republican and a democrat- republicans only want what is best for them, while democrats want what is best for everyone- pure and simple!

James   July 27th, 2009 1:07 pm ET

For a $1M that money could be use for other things. Instead they decide to use it to create misleading, distortion and mangling the issue so they can shoot down the idea. Minority Leader Mitch O'Connell said it best "we are for healthcare reform, but we just don't like Obama's idea."
I found the concept of the Republicans talking with both side of their mouth very odd. For example when Steele and others launch the broadside against the healthcare reform while at the same time on Leher Newhour program that night show two GOP on the House and Senate (? and Alexander respectively) coming out talking about how they are working with the Democrats to fine tune the legislation in order to be deficit neutral. Dodd said that he accepted 160 proposals from the Republicans – I wouldn't know what they are. Even the GOP miss Ted Kennedy.

Clint   July 27th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

RNC/GOP – What is your plan, other than to "defeat" the President on this issue? This is not a Democrat vs. Republican issue. It is a national crisis that effects the vast majority of middle class and working class voters. By ignoring the issue and obstructing reform, you are on the wrong side of history and voters will make you aware it.

Marty, Grand Rapids MI   July 27th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

The RNC will spend 1 million in the hopes it can continue to take advantage of Americans who are uninsured and under insured. They also want to make sure that Americans who have their insurance canceled or medical procedures denied continue to do so.

Rani McBride   July 27th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

This proves it! Republicans and the Obama haters are more interested in destroying President Obama than helping America. So much for being so called Patriots of America. No problems will ever be solved with this mind set. This is why the Republican Party is where they are today, NO WHERE!

Lynne   July 27th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

So the Republicans can't work thru their "recess" on getting health care reform done but have the time to engage in all sorts of "activities" to try to kill any reform.

Why isn't CNN demanding to see the plan the Republicans promised but which never materialized?? Journalists and Republican Congressmen seem hell bent in destroying reform as they sit there with their golden health plans!! What hypocrits!

Bill   July 27th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

The R's are in bed with the health care industry, therefore they cannot allow anything to happen that might threaten the status quo. I agree with the previous comment made – Congress should forego their tax payer funded group insurance and buy their own individual private health insurance policies. Most of the members of Congress wouldn't qualify for individual private insurance coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Wow, I bet that sucks.

beth   July 27th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

I'm so glad that the Republicans don't waste their money. Using $1,000,000.00 solely for the purpose of busting the proposed health plan is really putting money to good work. They will never get it. It's all about being in control and never about what's best for the common good....OOPS....that's right, that's SOCIALISM.

Say NO to Universl Health care   July 27th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

fiscal responsibility and the republican party does not belong in the same line LOL.

joe   July 27th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

So what is wrong with making our health care socialist? Our police force, and fire departments are all socialized. What makes me laugh are the uneducated conservatives on these blogs who probably just finished listening ( I mean being suckered) to Rush Limbaugh and know very little about anything make comments here.

J-dizzle   July 27th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

The dems campaigned on a lot of things including fiscal discipline in comparison to what the last round of repubs did vs what they use as a tagline. They also notable stated healthcare as a key issue. You can't bake a cake without breaking some eggs. I fail to see why this is news worthy as this was expected and not some ruse by the dems. The important question to be asked is how much of these lobbying funds is supplied by the potential losers of this plan, the big insurance companies who are the real people who stand between you and your family and the doctors and other care providers you need. It's not Washington Bureaucrats. That's the biggest pile of BS I've heard all year. And with Palin in the spot light ever since the RNC, there is plenty to go around.

Eric   July 27th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

Instead of the GOP just saying NO...Why dont they use that 1 million dollars to put a plan together. I have not seen a plan from the GOP at all. All i hear is we should do this and that. Well if they are serious about reform then lets see them put something together instead of just saying NO. We must hold them accountable..

They are shameless.

Larry   July 27th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

The Republicans are desperate. They stand to lose the money they receive from insurance companies, health care providers and pharmaceutical companies

The biggest concern they have is a bill that offers a public option. That is serious competition to the insurance companies and will cut into their bloated profits.

To give an idea of abuse–AIG Insurance is postured to give out another round of multimillion dollar bonuses, and they haven't repaid a dime of TARP money they got.

Marty, FL   July 27th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Translation: the RNC will spend $1 million AGAINST health-care reform for the American people to protect greedy interests in the insurance industry. What a sad waste from RNC, instead of working towards solutions.

Our country deserves better. This health-care legislation is long overdue without further delay.

markiejoe   July 27th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

I love the way the article says the Republicans are spending $1 million to "cast doubt" on the health care reform. That's a nice euphemism for spending $1 million to "defeat" any reform. But the Party of No! doesn't want you to, once again, conclude that they are "blocking" reform or working to "defeat" anything or saying "No" to progress. They just want to play nice in their own corner while working to "cast doubt" on health insurance reform. ROTFL.

Obama Victim   July 27th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

win this battle and we can destroy Obama

sammieb51   July 27th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

So let me get this straight - the GOP is willing to spend money to put together BS ads to sway the public's support in their direction, they are NOT willing to add any of their ideas (or be honest with the public) because they don't have any - they like the current system of for-profit health care. AND they are doing this at the behest of Rush and his clan so they can bring down the Obama administration. OK, so what part of "elected officials" don't they get? Don't they realize if Obama fails, we all fail? Don't they realize that in 5-10 years when the boomers start retiring enmasse the mess there will be? Why are we allowing them to stall this again?

Ethan   July 27th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

What a waste! Think what that Million Dollars could do to help people who at this very minute are dying because THEY HAVE NO HEALTH CARE COVERAGE, and cannot afford the proper medical treatment! The GOP/Republicans are just plain GREEDY. They ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CARE whether people live or die when it comes to healthcare reform. THE GOP will during the entire length of the Obama Administration be "partisan", and will except for perhaps a few Republican Congressman, the majority will NEVER support ANY BILL that comes before Congress! Just like a bunch of little kids who didn't get their way in the election, they will not waiver. They absolutely are not looking out for the best interests of the American people!

Jeffrey   July 27th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Dave in Illinois   July 27th, 2009 12:44 pm ET

Another good reason not to pass the current healthcare bills, nobody knows what's in them regardless of what President Obama promises because congressmen don't read them. In fact, Democratic Congressman John Conyers (D-Mich.) last week at a National Press Club luncheon says why bother . “What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

That's the attitude we like in our representatives. Doesn't matter what else is in the bill as long as their earmarks are there.

If the money spent on the campaigns for or against health care reform were spent on the uninsured, maybe this wouldn't even be an issue.

They are only interested in preserving the unholy profits of the medical, pharmaceutical and insurance companies who have lined their war chests will bribes. There is not an honorable person in the entire bunch and that goes for the blue dog democrats as well.

Typical Republican   July 27th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

Oooh...I wonder how many lives that would save? I heard somewhere that it was about ONE (ain't inflation a K9?).

Oh wait...never mind, I mean "Yea, let's spend it on killing some people by denying them insurance....so much better spent to kill people...especially poor people".

phoenix86   July 27th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

It appears that all the liberal dems and Obamabots on this blog are so filled with hate that they haven't had time to read the bill. Always sad to see people supporting their own destruction.

Palin 2012 - 2014 1/2   July 27th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

That's ok... They will get 10 million from the insurance industry....a good investment!!!!

the southern progressive   July 27th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

what is so sad, is that scare tacticts almost always work in the United States of America, the land of the brave..but then again, most people in this country dont realize that as a nation we can do anything. even the ones who keep telling the rest of the world that we are better than them.. so i guess we should really call ourselves the United States of America, the land of contradictions.

Lauren   July 27th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

How about instead of casting doubt on the only plan being worked through congress, the GOP gives us an alternative. And instead of attempting to undermine any confidence that American people have in our members of congress they give us a plan to support and not just shoot down those that are actually trying to do something about the US's failing healthcare system.

donttreadonme   July 27th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Dems are not supporting Obama's plan either.

Please stop with "what is your plan Repubs" if you are too lazy or stupid to research for yourself then quit crying about it!

Dems have the supper majority and can't get this passed because it is this plan stinks!

Nothingnewwithidiots   July 27th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

They think with their other head and as long as they set there having the greatest health careinsurance they don't give a hoot about other people and always go into their crazy religion to cover up their continued lieson everything even when they cheat on their wife so what has God to do or blame for their behavior ?Nothing

Big Al C.   July 27th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Give the american people what the senate has. That should be good enough. What does the party of NO think about that as a program?

Randolph Carter   July 27th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

What? No mention of the post office or the DMV yet? Come on republicans, you're slacking. Have a nice day!

Laverne   July 27th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

It is funny that the RNC complains about the money it will take to cover healthcare, yet find it appropriate to spend 1 million on an ad to make a dispute. It just does not make any sense how the RNC is trying to mislead the American people and that a lot of the American people are falling for their crap. Besides I thought the GOP was all for competition, that is all a public option will be. People will be able to keep their current healthcare if they are happy with it. I personally don't prefer public healthcare for me, but if I did not have health insurance or could not afford a private plan, I would be grateful to have the option of a public plan. This is really a no brainer, we are already paying for public healthcare, everything someone goes through the ER uninsured or underinsured and use the ER as their primary care physicians!

Chris D.   July 27th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

DISGUSTING..........The GOP does not want health reform to pass.....They never attack this issue when they're in power. NEVER.

Bill from CA   July 27th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

First of all, if $ 1 million is all they are contributing, good luck getting the 'message' out (assuming they even have a message). Secondly, perhaps instead of all the efforts trying to cast doubt on the health care plan, they should be working harder with the White House to have what they want included. They're not going to get the big things they want in the package...they need to accept they are a true minority party and do the best they can with it. Like most Republicans and Democrats, I don't think this plan is perfect BUT it is a start in the right direction.

Randy in PA   July 27th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

The GOP only care about one thing, getting in power. Screw the American people, screw other countries, screw anyone who doesn't believe in what they care about. Unfortunately, our whole system is based on two principals..... POWER and GREED not about actually accomplishing something beneficial to all.

I would like to know why health care reform is being played out in the media. Average Joe/Jane has no real clue what is happening, so why ask us to do anything? How about you (Government) do your fricking job, work on a health plan that works for all and THEN explain to us why we should accept it.

Bev   July 27th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

I call for EVERY Republican Congressman or Congresswoman to refuse their GOVERMENT provided insurance and buy it on their own. NO MORE GOVERNMENT TAKINGS! NO MORE DEPENDENCY ON THE TAX PAYERS. What a joke these people are. It's a perpetual double standard. I think all government employees should go without their taxpayer provided health care coverage. I bet we'd have health care reform in place in a heartbeat if that were the case. Pitiful.

Tort Reform Is A Sham   July 27th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

Only 1% of money spent on Health Care is spent on lawsuits. By that account, tort reform will only save 1% of total cost.

donttreadonme   July 27th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

1 million of 100% donated money is way better than 1.6 trillion of wasted tax payer money spent to push forward Obama’s socialistic agenda. Please stop yourself snifit Obama spent $740.6 million in his campaign alone.

The worm has turned libs, we need real Healthcare reform not a Government take over that we just can’t afford. Even sensible dems don’t believe the Obama propaganda machine.

The fear mongering Obama pass my Health plan or the economy is doomed or pass this “stimulus" or America is doomed.

Quiteman1   July 27th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

Go Blue dogs!! Republicans and blue dogs can put a stop to the life support of this bad health care bill. The only plan we should even consider accepting is the one that Botox Pelosi and company are on. We were all promised that plan..........where is it? Another empty Obama promise.

Dave in Illinois   July 27th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Read the Fortune article on the web (linked to CNNMoney.com) entitled "5 freedoms you'd lose in health care reform" to understand why the Democrat healthcare plan needs to be stopped. President Obama's vision and the Congress' plans are not in sync.

GA Jake   July 27th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Which party spent billions in Iraq and not enough on actually chasing the Taliban? The same ones that have and would continue to hand billions to PHARMA but not to the taxpayers. The GOP will only get my support when they stop fighting against everything Dems do and start creating alternative solutions that help people rather than just industries.

Go RNC   July 27th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

Great for us republicans. We know where Pres Obama's healthcare is taking us: to bankrupt in the good ole USA. I will have to up my donations to the RNC now so my money can be used in the campaighn against Obama mania . He will not be hurt by his false calims for good health care, we the people will and we the people will have to pay for a useless program. He makes all these statements on how he does not mind sharing his part for his program but he wants us to be forced to pay for it by placing more and more financial burden on us, we the people. Please stop him RNC and all GOP and Democrats too who are against his reform those dems know a bad thing when they see it,. They do not want to go down with a sinking ship no more than we do.

Southerner   July 27th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

Either you are for America or not. The GOP says no free health care but their senators and members of The Congress get it. You cannot have it both ways. Either you are for it or not.

gl, From Pittsburgh   July 27th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

What is with the GOP? They rather spend one millions dollars to lie to America.

Blame the REPUBLICANS!!!   July 27th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

The Republican National Committee will spend nearly $1 million on campaign activities over the next month in an effort to cast doubt on President Obama's proposal to reform health care ***What a waste of MONEY!!!! RNC Solutions Plz....Waiting **None**

Four and The Door   July 27th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

If the "Health Care Reform" was even a half serious effort, you would think that Obama or Congress would be able to answer just one of the following very basic questions about it:

What are they selling? How much will it cost? and Who is going to pay for it?

Other than that, the whole HCR scam has been very helpful taking public attention away from the results of Obama's economic fixes. Jobs, jobs, jobs. Okay. Where, where, where?

Shawn - GA   July 27th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

So you people who are so up in arms about get this passed and get it passed now.... You are ok with:

Not being able to purchase private insurance anymore?

Knowing your relative (or you) can be denyed treatment due to your age both too young or too old to be be "worth: treating?

Knowing your relative (or you) can be denyed treatment due to how far along you are in your illness?

These are just a very small sample of some of the horrible things in this plan... who is watching out for you? The people trying to push this through before you learn the details? The people who are censoring congress and keeping information from you?

Or the GOP and "read before vote" Dems who want a better way for our people? Please for your sake and your children's sake... don't just follow any part line Red or Blue, learn and make decisions yourselves.

God Bless America, her People and Her President?

Go play in traffic during rush hour!!!

gflan   July 27th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

We are all paying for those who do not have coverage and end up in our emergency rooms (which are in danger of closing). If we have a health care system that all can have access to, it should certainly lower the costs of our insurance premiums, and there will be less danger of more emergency rooms closing.

Has anyone discussed the salaries of the CEO's of our current HMO's. I suspect there is a good reason they don't want to see a public option, And who is standing up for the current system??? Those who benefit most from it.

As to the concern that we won't be able to choose our own doctors, we for the most part can't do that now as we must use the doctors that our insurance company contracts with.

Jill-IN   July 27th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

Thanks for the list of honor. I'm sorry to see my Indiana representatives are not on it. Thanks to the Democrats who are sticking with us.

katiec   July 27th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

The GOP will not ease up their efforts to destroy health care reform. We cannot let them succeed. Their support of big business over the welfare of the American people is criminal. They are becoming our
most dangerous domestic terrorists. Trying to destroy our president,
us and our country.
How can anyone support these dishonorable politicians who put
party, winning at any cost and their personal gains, interests over
our survival?

Al-NY,NY   July 27th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

and the GOP plan for health care reform is...............??????

B   July 27th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

This is all that the RNC is about– Casting doubt, trying to save their buddies in large corporations that might have an effect on mega profits.

Patrick   July 27th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

Thanks for the list. Now I know who to donate to.

It's been said, but why doesn't this money go, instead towards improving the plan?

Steph   July 27th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

It costs a lot of money to convince people to vote against their own interests. We NEED health care reform not goofy commercials. Commercials aren't going to save anyone's life or help people who have lost everything due to high medical bills.

Really   July 27th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

How much is the democratic party spending, including Obama on promoting their socialist health plan?

alvino   July 27th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

It would have been better if the RNC had given money to 'neutralizer' to get mental help.

Peejay   July 27th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

I'd like to see CNN do some investigative journalism and come up with names and numbers of political contributions by insurance, pharma, etc. to obstructionists of both parties.

alvino   July 27th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

I am fairly sure that this money is a small part of what the insurance industry has donated to the party of "No!" It gives them a chance to protect their donators outrageous profits at our expense.

Jon   July 27th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

The GOP is more concerned with making sure criminals have easy access to machine guns than they are to making sure all Americans have easy access to health care. How does anyone vote for these people anymore?

katiec   July 27th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

People beware.
There is an e mail going around that claims to be the health care plan. It is full of distortions, swiftboating and senders comments.
If you receive this please let those involved know you do not
accept or support this kind of garbage.
They are trying every dirty tactic available to destroy health care
reform.

DX in TX   July 27th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

WHAT...$1,000,000,000.00...you have to be kidding me! Why couldn't the Republicans spend more time and money on coming up with a better solution than spending it on scare tactics.
Republicans are a joke, their soul purpose is to lie, cheat and win by any means necessary. Republicans don't care about the American people they only care about running this country with their narrow views.

Obama/Biden

RepubliKLANs Are Plain Stupid   July 27th, 2009 12:17 pm ET

Obama 2.0   July 27th, 2009 12:16 pm ET

It is amazing that they will spend 1 million so that 14 million continue to loose their HC daily. What country do they support?

jm   July 27th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

This Republican plan is reminiscent of many hate campaigns in history . sounding reasonable and thoughful, (e.g. Liz Cheney's monolgue on Larry King LIve) while viscously targeting a select group of individuals. It is scare tactic that we in the U.S. media market should be savvy enough to recognize and reject.

KirksNoseHair   July 27th, 2009 12:14 pm ET

Right wingers don't want health care reform. It's not good for the corporate executives at the insurance companies who line their pockets with money.

There's some "straight talk"

Peggy   July 27th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

Why spend that money to cast doubt on Obama's ideas?????? Why not spend the time and money to come up with their own reform plan?????? Always a negative spin from the GOP....never a positive , moving ahead idea.

Sniffit   July 27th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

At an average of $40K per person, $1M is cancer treatment for 25 people. But hey, it's after-tax money well spent on misinformation campaigning and fear mongering, right GOPers?

Sam Ellison   July 27th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

1 Million dollars is nothing when youre getting several hundred million in kickbacks from the drug companies....

John, Brooklyn, New York   July 27th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Wow. The Republicans are so bankrupt of new ideas for improving the country that they now have to resort to attacking those who actually DO have ideas as their party's campaign strategy.

So sad.

Sanford   July 27th, 2009 12:10 pm ET

President Obama has always said that reform with a public option would give Americans health care "the same health insurance that members of Congress enjoy". I think that, if health care reform is killed by Congress, then they should have to forfit their health insurance.

Independent   July 27th, 2009 12:08 pm ET

Wow a list of people that believe in healthcare reform and are doing this for the American citizens. How patarotic . Thank you RNC, now I know who to make a donation to.

Not a surprise. Anything to keep some Americans scared. RNC thrives on that and some Americans believe it.

Shawn - GA   July 27th, 2009 12:07 pm ET

Health care needs to be reformed no one argues that, however this way is not the correct way.

They need to spend this money because the Democratic Party, including the President is blaming the hold-up on the rep despite that fact they have their 60 majority. Let us not forget that the GOP congress is being censored by the majority, the first time I have never heard such a thing, they have forbidden them from sharing with their constitutes a flow chart that detailed the 31 people that stand in-between a patient and a decision.

Fix healthcare do NOT make it worse with this Public option fiasco. I stayed neutral for quite awhile (many posts on CNN as a matter of fact) I wanted details and information, the more of each I am getting the more I see that this way is not the correct way.

God Bless America, Her People, and her President

RahmAxleRod SuperTroopers   July 27th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

ant they should, the adminstrations plan is garbage... Instead they need to setup universities to train more doctors and nurses, limit patent term limits and limit liability... Wanna see a real change....

MM   July 27th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

In stead of spending $1 million on ads casting doubt on the plan, whiy not spend that money coming up with and promoting their own plan if they think this one stinks. What a waste of funds in this time when we can ill afford it.

KJ, CA   July 27th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

Why would the RNC spend that much money so that all can't have access to health care? What is their motivation? It isn't money because we currently spend 17% of our GNP on health care and, while it may go up a bit initially, in the long run it will cost less because people will be getting treated proactively instead of waiting (because they don't have insurance)until their illness has become very serious and very costly to treat. Let's be real – there are other reasons other than cost that the RNC wants to defeat this.

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   July 27th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

Guess it would be asking too much and make too much sense to spend that million dollars trying to assist the President in formulating a plan that would be bi-partisan and beneficial to all.The Party of No would rather tear down instead of help build up as usual!!!

Larry   July 27th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

Jo   July 27th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

For the Repubs and Democrats that is getting kick back from the Health Care Providers, I hope that Obama call you out by name and state and let the American People know how crooked you are for not allowing this country to have Health Care System that will support everyone. If you'll are that evil go move to a country where there is no care and see how those people live.

This is pathetic. Also, why can't the RNC say that money for a rainy day. You might need it. Also on another note, Why are the GOP afraid of Obama. That is the questions because it is evident that this is what it is people.

Neutralizer   July 27th, 2009 12:02 pm ET

RNC don't have to run campaign ads on healthcare of Obambi, the American people knew this is BAD MEDICINE.

ARE YOU WILLING TO DIE FOR OBAMA'S HEALTHCARE? Are you willing to kill your children, brothers, sisters, parents? OBAMACARE is GENOCIDE. If people read the bill and understand it, they know what it means – G E N O C I D E

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   July 27th, 2009 12:01 pm ET

What a waste of money. I saw one of the Conservative ads and it happens to be sponsored by the Lewman Group. Thanks, but no thanks republicans. If we wanted more special interest in Washington, a republican presdent would be in office. But I see you guys didn't drop the ball and are still in the backpockets of the insurance companies.

Jim   July 27th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Its so obvious the the entire Republican motive is to get back power. They did nothing about health care the entire time they were in charge and now instead of working on the issue, their entire focus is to kill it. I hope this backfires on them.

Post always rejected by CNN   July 27th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Folks we see more and more and more everyday that most republicans are not really Americans. What country do they belong to ...we should take them and set them up on a desert island. Let them pay for their services with TAXES they evade. Let them have health care not paid for by the taxpayer they are stepping on every day.

I think there is hardly one republican left who is interested in the welfare of the people. They want to fill their pockets and fill the coffers of big business and lobbyist so they can continue to STIFF THE TAXPAYER.

Facts Anyone?   July 27th, 2009 11:59 am ET

I wonder why the GOP/RNC was so keen on "waiting" and "taking it slow to get it right".... It's all politics, people. Watch out for your own interests, and don't expect your elected officials to think more about you than they do about their next campaign.
