(CNN) - Despite his campaign-trail promises, President Obama has failed to change the partisan tone in Washington, Arizona Sen. John McCain said Friday.
"I'm afraid they have," Obama's former presidential rival told CNN's John King when asked if the administration has 'failed' in delivering on its repeated pledge of bipartisanship.
"Look they've got the votes. We understand that. They had the votes in the stimulus package, in the budget, in the Omnibus, in the SCHIP, all this legislation. And they have picked off, sometimes, two or three Republicans," McCain continued. "But that's not changing the climate in Washington."
"What that is, is exercising a significant majority," the Arizona Republican continued. "And so I - I respect their successes, but please don't call it changing the climate in Washington."
John King's full interview with McCain will air Sunday on State of The Union at 9 a.m. ET.

McCain..ha ha funny old man that has become even more
useless than before.
Come on Mc Cain, did you really believe that Obama could change it? I mean this is the new politics starting with the treatment of Bush...
And why is this so, McCain? The President has more times than not extended his hand to work with Repubs to get things done, but your boys are still sitting on the sidelines. If he hasn't tried to work bipartisan than he would just ask Congress to push health care through with a reconciliation vote. Stop being mad you loss.
hmm..how to reach out to a group of people that seem to only want to get richer. keep liberties away from others and keep everyone from getting health care? The Democrats and the President have listen to the republicans and incorporated their ideas only to have the same republicans not support the bill their ideas help make. its a no win situation. The GOP only wants to be the opposition and breed anger and resentment...but in the process alot of people are getting angry at the GOP.
Right, that's because the voters refuse to get rid of tired incumbents such as yourself.
Well when the party of no is saying we will not agree on anything this Prez has to do.. What do you expect?
Guess it would have been a Hill billy change if JM and the nutty quitter would have won.
JM it is time for you to retire...! Period...
McCain is right Obama hasn't done much of nothing but spend spend spend, And whats going on with CNN ,I hadn't watch CNN in a while and did some the other night and there were alot of black history on or something, I thought i was watching BET .Somone told me that CNN has these shows on weekly , Has CNN went to Black Entertainment ?
The climate will not change, if they don't want it to change........Who want to a sit at a table with a bunch of lying, fear mongering, whinning grown a$$ men........void of any ideas or solutions that would benefit the american people.
John McOld Geezer ... budget, in the Omnibus ... where GWs
YOU ARE A WAR HERO TURNED LIAR LIAR DEPENDS ON FIRE
President Obama can't change Washington in 6 mos. Remeber we got the same tired republicans in the Senate that can't seem to get up to speed with the new way of doing things. We have a President who is inovative but can't move this country forward because people are so scared trying something new. They got those same old republicans doing what they do best "run scare" of new ideas. This goes for the same old democrats that are afraid of change. Medicare has worked for decades and now everyone is crying about Government run insurance. The cost of healthcare if killing our economy, yet we are scared to make a change.
How can President Obama change the climate in Washington when Republicans are not interested in bipartisanship but only in seeing him fail. Apart from a couple of senators in Maine, the Republican party is composed of right wing nut cases. I've long ceased caring about what they think, including McCain.
Really? He hasn't? Pres. Obama has the congress, his Cabinet and Independent agencies tackling difficult issues that you and your collegues didn't have the leadership ability to tackle in your many, many, many, many years in Congress. He has reached out to Republicans and because you couldn't get your way on everything, you slapped his hand away and slammed the door in his face while screaming, "let us in" from the other side. WE ARE NOT FOOLED. Pres. Obama HAS changed Washington and for the better. You may be doing it kicking and screaming, but you are going to change sooner or later and whether you want to or not. We, the American people demanded it on Nov. 4th 2008.
No, Senator, it is you and the derelict political party you represent who have not changed.
...and mccain has?
Wow, he hasn't changed Washington in the full 7 months in office....wow, I am so disappointed!
if what mccain says is true, then, why are all the republicans so intent on bringing him down? they(the republicans) haven'[t offered any help or solutions of any kind, all they've done is moan and groan and complain and exaggerate.
I say obama HAS changed washington and the reactions of the republican party are proof of it.
I'm sick of hearing John McCain's whining. He's beginning to act and sound like Walter Matthau in "Grumpy Old Men"!
Please shut up and go away! You have done enough harm,
Sit down and shut up. Turn out. Do not watch this on CNN.
Obama only creates TAXES...Im with you where are those jobs Obama said he was going to create ?....I haven't heard him talk about them for a while now , Why doesn't he talk about those jobs anymore .
Le's play along for a second:
Assuming it's true that he hasn't changed Washington, it's quite obvious that it's because the GOP is doing everything they can to prevent it. I'd give up this line of hypercriticism if I was a GOPer...it's not going to do yuo any good.
And just what, exactly, Sen. McCain are YOu doing to change things up, you maverick you? Oh that's right – you're doing what the rest of the GOP is doing – ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE! Lead, follow or get out of the way cause if you're not part of the solution then you MUST be part of the problem!
Took me six months to remodel my kitchen and bathrooms. Might take a little longer to fix 8 years of incompetence and deceit. McCain and Kyl coninute to embarass my home state.
What is the fascination with McCain? Apparently Mccain and John King are not aware that he LOST. We don't want to hear from him and hope that he retires or is voted out of office by the people of AZ.
Shut Up scary Mccain, you need to go to the (HOME) no one cares ,what you say,and John King why dont you get a NEW MAGIC WALL ,because the wall is going BLUE in 2010 and 2012. King is such a PUPPET of the gop.
Don't forget Dems that Peloski and Reid are Dems with very low ratings. With these two failures in Washington how can you say anything about a Repub?
