Palin's fans have been clamoring for her to re-launch her Twitter feed.

(CNN) - She’s gone Twitter-silent since leaving office last week – but former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has spoken out publicly for the first time since her resignation, according to the nation’s largest gun rights group.

Palin addressed a National Rifle Association dinner in Anchorage Saturday, the group reported on its blog. The NRA did not reveal the content of her remarks, but described them as “a stirring speech on 2nd Amendment rights.” Reporters were not invited to observe the event.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate was also given lifetime memberships in several local gun clubs, and the NRA’s Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting.

Palin has not yet given a media interview since leaving officen and has yet to re-launch her Twitter feed after leaving her goubernatorial account behind. Last week, her spokeswoman said that she had never committed to, and would not be attending, a GOP event at the Reagan library at which organizers had expected her to appear.

We have guns in the house – my husband is retired military. But they aren't laying around loaded and ready to go – they are locked up, not loaded, and the ammo is stored elsewhere. IF someone broke in, I'd be dead way before I got a gun out, found the ammo, loaded it, and threatened the intruder. But is the solution to have loaded guns laying around? I think not. Anyway, why is this article called Palin Breaks Silence? The woman is never silent.

Republicans = pro life yet support the death penalty, gun rights and war. claim to be small gov yet tell you what to do and not to do with your body and whom you can and cannot marry.

Do all gun owners belong to "a well regulated militia" like the 2nd Amendment specifies? If not, why do they think they are entitled to guns?

The Jellyman   August 3rd, 2009 12:05 pm ET

We won't tell you what she said, but trust us, it was really stirring. Unlike the other stuff she's been saying in public. Privately, her words are really quite stirring. You should have heard them, even though you couldn't, and we're not going to tell you what she said, but, trust us, her words stirred us, big-time. If you could imagine her saying something stirring, you would know what we mean.

JEANNE   August 3rd, 2009 12:05 pm ET

Sarah Palin is entertainment – that is why we liberals like to read about what she has to say. She will never be a viable candidate for President or any other office. She brings nothing but embarassment to the Republican Party. As far as Obama goes – I thing the country is progressing as well as can be expected. I dread to think what condition we would be in with Palin. The NRA need to be reformed just like the Republican Party. I am not against guns – but there need to be serious control (guns are dangerous!!!!!)

Lauren from Tallahassee, FL   August 3rd, 2009 12:04 pm ET

Sarah Palin is frightening to me on so many levels and especially gun rights. This coming from the woman who guns down wolves from a helicopter.

I do not know why anyone thinks Palin is any kind of possible contender for 2012 or any republican at this point. However, I cannot see why anybody would vote for her; every position she has held, she has abandoned. I hate to break it to those of you that say she's not a "quitter"; she is most definitely a quitter in every since of the word. I don't know how else you would define it. I agree that people need to leave people's families alone, but in orders of Sarah Palin's political responsibilities, she has shown more than once that she cannot handle the pressure of the committee she was on and the governor's position much less president of the United States.

Jefe   August 3rd, 2009 12:04 pm ET

I'm a big fan of gun-ownership rights, but it disappoints me that many of those in the political arena feel it is the only freedom worth protecting. The extreme right-wing of American politics believes in the right to bear arms, but believes in all other aspects of life, the government should decide how people should live. If the purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to defend against the possibility of a tyrannical federal government, then where were all of these people when the Constitution was being trashed by Neocons for 8 years?

sarah "the pitbull in lipstick" palin finally spoke about something she knows about. guns. and all you palin followers can follow her right into the wilderness and play with your guns. because there will be no gun play in the white house for this dipstick. she couldn't win the presidency if she was the only one running.

wakeupamerica   August 3rd, 2009 12:02 pm ET

CNN – this is not national news. Let the local stations report on it. We've had enough of her.

Marc   August 3rd, 2009 12:02 pm ET

Trade Freedom for Security, Lose Both – That's exactly the point. Guns kill people because they are used by people who wants to kill people using them. And since they are very effective in the goal of 'hurt & kill' since THAT is what they are created to be, the access to them should be limited to those who can understand all the implications & risks to own a gun. It's not about taking a right, but about the conscient use of such right.
For instance, think about cars. They are designed to transport people and things, but there is such a justifiable risk in their handling that people that are found unable to properly handle with them cannot legally use them. And they are meant to transport stuff and people.

Of course you do not need a reporter to report on her ramblings, nor do I want to hear on how to kill endangered species , or hear how to shot helpless animals for sport from an airplane. And I am not a spoiled Hollywood type!
I support gun control of semi auto weapons, I support that I can have a personal gun in my home , within limits, those being the same limits we put on people getting driving licences and auto registration . We can track vehicles , we need to track firearms and try to keep them out of the hands of criminals. The word is at least try, not give them to every flakey radical for arsenials.

Anyone that would find pleasure shooting beautiful animals from a helicopter should stick with the NRA . Thats just about the capacity of her knowledge. It always amazes me that right wingnuts are pro-life but it means nothing to take the life of sweet harmless animals, or to send our sons to war without any hesitation.

Marcon   August 3rd, 2009 11:59 am ET

I hate this woman as much as the next educated male in the room... but.

She is in a really difficult position having to be a 21st century republican female. Most republican males think the woman's place is in the home or on the street corner while most democrats frame their candidates completely differently. Shes NOT pro-choice, shes "sounds" like an idiot, and her personal statements set women's rights back 50 years.

How is she supposed to fit into a Republican male's picture of an ideal politician while still being a woman?

Michael   August 3rd, 2009 11:59 am ET

"A well regulated militia" No questions since the preamble clearly gives the feds and states the right to regulate. I'm a lifer NRA member and I can see that, interesting how some folks try to explain away the preamble.

Maybe if we acted more like the NRA of the 40's and 50's we'd triple our membership but as of now, the majority of gun owners think the NRA leadership is tetched.

Maggie   August 3rd, 2009 11:59 am ET

I dare CNN – and the rest of the national media – to stop with these irrelevant stories. Palin's speech to Anchorage NRA is local news, not national news. I'm in Maryland; don't give a rats patootie about Anchorage.
She blames the media for most of her woes. So stay away from her! She is now a private citizen. Ignore her. And her clan. She is not news.

mitch   August 3rd, 2009 11:59 am ET

guns are stupid. like half of the homicides are with guns. Its strange how Britain tightened its laws and they had literally no gun kills. yah its okay to have the little pistol with the safety but you should just rent a rugger at the range and get your action there

Melissa   August 3rd, 2009 11:59 am ET

Palin is a twit. She'd rather give everyone guns so they can shoot each other fighting over resources than give everyone health care so they can live to a ripe old age.

So sick of the Republicans and she's one of the worst.

Truth Teller   August 3rd, 2009 11:59 am ET

The reason why CNN constantly runs articles on Sarah Palin, is to keep people on the ACORN payroll. They are paid to search the internet for any and all articles on her, and to write negative blog posts. Getting paid from ACORN while collecting their welfare checks is pretty lucrative isn't it? When they do the census reporting for the White House, they'll be getting three paychecks.

Janet Dimberg   August 3rd, 2009 11:58 am ET

The story is all about following the money. Sarah will serve red meat to anyone willing to pick up the tab.

I will bet her speech did not address youth violence that the cities face. The reason why is that dead kids don"t donate or vote.

I am sure we will hear more from Sarah in the days to come about other key issues of the day such as health care and the bind the government is putting the insurance companies in.

mhcoolm   August 3rd, 2009 11:56 am ET

This is indicative of her (paraphrase) "holding on to her guns and religion" comments. Guns/religion, nice juxtaposition, reminds me of church shootings. Is that really the imagery you intend to create Palin?

Dale   August 3rd, 2009 11:55 am ET

If everyone owned guns, we would have no mass shootings because the shooters would get plugged right off.

But the total number of gun deaths would go way up. The vast majority of gun deaths are single-shot single-victim incidences. Guns do not prevent crime. They just make it many small incidences rather than single big headline incidences.

Consider airplane vs car safety. Which kills more people in America– cars or airplanes? Which makes the news, a single automobile death or a planeload of people dead?

Gun ownership is the same thing... everyone owns guns results in many individual tragedies that are single-victim tragedies so they will not make the news.

Guns don't kill people. But they sure make it convenient.

Liberal Democrats, middle of the road Republicans both consider Governor Palin a weak national candidate due to her naive approach to national and world politics. She understands this and knows she will only play to one group, extreme right wing Republicans. So you will only see her speaking at those events. Most telling is the organization's restriction on reporters. I'll wager that even right wing political pundits were probably restricted from commenting publically. Thus allowing her to speak publically and not catch any flak for it.

Wow. This bothers me so much. The religious right clings to Palin as the Christian candidate. I am a Christian and they are missing the point entirely. God is a God of peace and I haven't a clue how conservative Christians picked up gun rights as a God-given right. I live in inner-city Chicago and 7 youth were just shot in my neighborhood. What's more important: gun rights or the right to life? You can't have both.

Minnesotan   August 3rd, 2009 11:50 am ET

Did Palin really give “a stirring speech on 2nd Amendment rights" or did she babble incoherently again, like she did in her resignation speech and her Katie Couric interview? Why is this dingbat even in the news anymore?

kyle   August 3rd, 2009 11:50 am ET

first of all, i want to say that I am supporter of gun ownership. it's in our constitution is a symbol of this country. however, i feel some gun activists are completely out of line when they advocate that we should be allowed to own weapons that are specifically made for attacking and killing people.

that said, i dont understand how anyone even considers sarah palin a legitimate politician anymore. how do you get elected for a job, quit half way through and not be completely written off as a public figure? she couldnt take the criticism and she couldn't do the job she was elected to do, how could she ever come back from this?

conservatives don't vote with their brains, that's why W was elected, mccain was a serious presidential candidate and palin is going to be a candidate in 2012. unbelievable.

Bob Painter   August 3rd, 2009 11:49 am ET

Thank you Sarah Palin!

walleye   August 3rd, 2009 11:49 am ET

I am amazed at how foolish some people are by running out and buying up all these guns. They think that the new administration will take away their right to protect themselves. I guess the question I have is how many times have you read about someone using a gun to protect themselves or their family, versus the number of times a gun was used to kill someone or commit a crime. Even though I don’t like guns, I don’t have a problem with hunters owning a rifle or two, or someone owning a handgun. What I object to is when people start owning assault rifles and hoarding twenty or thirty handguns in their home. There is no reason why the average citizen needs such firepower.

I have many concerns about people who love to kill.

When the Second Amendment was passed it took 18 single and separate operations to fire ONE bullet. That same amendment now covers guns that can fire over 500 bullets per minute. Time for an update?

I saw a bumper sticker in Florida that said "Gun control means using two hands": Another one said: :Gun control means killing what you're aiming at"

Michael   August 3rd, 2009 11:39 am ET

Steve in Dallas   August 3rd, 2009 11:39 am ET

Not sure on this maybe an accountant can weigh in on this to be sure, but by accepting lifetime membership in these clubs isn't that considered income? Does she need to pay taxes on that income. It would only be tax exempt if she paid for the membership and if they were real non-profit organizations. But given that they gave her the membership, then that is income to her. So is that taxable to her?

Also, why didn't they tell us about what she said? Did she just blab on and on again and again and again with no real focus? Her 15 minutes are up.

All you Palin-haters probably haven't noticed how many of Obama's promises have been broken, but then, why would you? You voted for that smooth, reassuring voice, those feel-good phrases, and the way he made you think he was out for your best interests. Just because he can form a complete sentence (occasionally without his teleprompter) doesn't make him an honest man.

I'd say you all "acted stupidly" by falling for all that.

By the end of his term those of you who pay taxes will find your tax bill bigger than your take home pay, an those who don't pay taxes will actually be taking home more than you do; and finally, we will all be 'equal'.

How's that Obama thing working for you?

Every time I see the blistering insults hurled against NRA members, I become more entrenched in my belief that what the NRA stands for is worth fighting for. I cringe when I think of what this country would become if the NRA (thanks to its individual members) were not as powerful as it is. Our group and its legislative efforts have survived the Gun Control Act, the Assault Weapons Ban, and other attempts to undermine the Second Amendment. Now we have the Heller decision, and a momentum to reinforce gun ownership, self defense, concealed carry, and other gun-related sports. And all that despite a Democratically controlled Congress and a liberal President. If there is any bright light in this current political climate, that is it.

Mike NC   August 3rd, 2009 11:35 am ET

Well the NRA is an appropriate rock for her to slither under. Expect her next at the Rape The Earth conference, the Dyslexics for Kange rally and in the pulpit of the Megachurch of the Screaming Lunatic.

Skye, Eastern OR   August 3rd, 2009 11:32 am ET

Wow. Speech on 2nd Amendment while thumbing nose at 1st Amendment. Nothing like being able to pick and choose from your consititution you like. Oh–depends on which one is self-serving at the moment? Let's see how much she likes the 1st Amendment when her so-called book comes out and she wants press...and I hope she doesn't get it. Stop covering her. The only ratings she gets are people who want a good laugh at her idiocy.

Scott, Tucson   August 3rd, 2009 11:32 am ET

I see the anti-gun nuts are out in force here this morning. You might start wanting to worry about Obama's plan to have all your private financial information open for government scrutiny without your knowledge. It's in the health care bill.

SkiDoc   August 3rd, 2009 11:32 am ET

No reporters because they don't want President Teleprompter to learn how to speak unaided. Go Sarah!!

Wake Up   August 3rd, 2009 11:31 am ET

Obamabots- Why do you need big brother (wasteful fed govt) being your babysitters?? think for yourselves. The constitution is based on local and state rights...not Obama telling us what to think, buy, and do.

We need to speak up against Hugo Jr... Barack.

TeeKay   August 3rd, 2009 11:30 am ET

I hope Ms. Palin keeps herself in the mainstream media long enough to hopefully win the GOP party nomination next time around. That way we're pretty much guaranteed to keep the Dems in the Oval Office for quite some time.

Donnygull   August 3rd, 2009 11:30 am ET

Amazing that 69 % of the birthers and Palin supporters are from the South. Go figure! Appears to me that these two facts are as interbred as the residents of dixie!

Fenarkleman   August 3rd, 2009 11:30 am ET

Dang! And I was enjoying the silence so much.

W. Art   August 3rd, 2009 11:30 am ET

Therefore, how do we know that she and the NRA didn't make a threat on the President? How do we know the hateful, racist klan remarks that was said...no wonder they don't want to release the content of her message.

Perhaps the FBI needs to investigate what went on.

TJ   August 3rd, 2009 11:29 am ET

Waste of time

Wishawna   August 3rd, 2009 11:29 am ET

Well I'm glad the NRA consulted a Constitutional law scholar to speak...

Really,CNN?Really??

Roger   August 3rd, 2009 11:28 am ET

Palin breaks her silence? Has she ever shut up?

Truth Teller   August 3rd, 2009 11:28 am ET

If radical islamic terrorism reaches our shores, you limp wristed liberals will be hiding behind someone with a NRA hat. Statistics show that a well armed community has the lowest crime rates. Take away guns and only the criminals will have them. We live in reality, not fantasyland. Gangs are in our major cities, drug lords from Mexico have come across our borders, muslims are being indoctinated in the mosques, and you want to disarm the citizens? There's a funny bumper sticker that says: "My wife, yes. My Dog, maybe, My Gun, NEVER"

Rex   August 3rd, 2009 11:27 am ET

When George Bush left office, I wondered where all the failures in life would direct their venom and vitriol in lieu of looking in the mirror. Who can we blame for our fate in life?

Just click on the comments section of any CNN article that has Sarah Palin in the headline.

I am so thankful I haven't been dealt such a lousy deck of card in life that I have to direct so much hate towards somebody who does not even hold any office or has no effect whatsoever in my life.

Russ   August 3rd, 2009 11:27 am ET

Does poor poor Sarah even know what the second amendment is? And with the stupid things she rambles on about, I wouldn't let reporters in either. Why would she want to be fodder for the media and comedians? But then when you think about it, it has never stopped her before. As usual her mouth moves in favor of what organization has its hand in her puppet head.

Liberal and Proud of It dot com   August 3rd, 2009 11:27 am ET

There are about 200,000,000 privately owned guns in the United States. About 40% of all households have at least one gun and 24% own a handgun. One-third of those households keep the gun loaded and unlocked for ready access and half keep it unlocked. About 30,000 people die annually from the introduction of a bullet into their bodies for one reason or another. Perhaps twice that number is shot but not killed. That is, Americans shoot ten times as many Americans per year as have been killed by terrorists since 9/11.

About 600 women and 125 men are killed annually by an angry spouse with a firearm. Products such as toys and cars must be manufactured to meet certain safety standards, but there are no safety or product standards that apply to gun manufacture. Those who have been convicted of a felony are much more likely to own a gun than those who have never been convicted.

George   August 3rd, 2009 11:27 am ET

You go Sarah!!!! New Palin insurance. Shoot the sick. Very conservative. You betcha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ted Tartaglia   August 3rd, 2009 11:26 am ET

One of the reasons I dropped my membership in the NRA was because of its pandering to the religious right. The NRA seems to only invite members of the lunatic fringe to speak at their events. Nitwits like Tom Delay and Sarah Palin.

If the NRA is so proud of Palin, why didn't they release the contents of her speech especially since it was so "stirring"?

At one time the NRA advocated for sportsmanship in hunting. I guess they have lowered their standards when they support someone who thinks shooting wolves from helicopters or airplanes is sporting.

I luv Sarah Palin   August 3rd, 2009 11:26 am ET

- Sarah Palin has a bright future ahead of her
- Sarah Palin is a newest superstar
- She is no doubt will be a rising star, and people will be talking about her for years
- She is one of a kind
- Sarah helps stimulate people sense of humor during tough time
- Without her I would never be a faithful program watcher
- Sarah I am right here waiting the day you are coming on board
- Sarah “ Welcome to Saturday Night Live!”your new home
Yes! I can see Russia from my balcony too!

Rob   August 3rd, 2009 11:26 am ET

You know, for someone who, according to you libs, is too dumb to find her way out of a box, you sure do get in a tizzy whenever she speaks. What's the phrase, "Me thinks you doth protest too much." Granted, she's not a failed community organizer, she served longer as governor than a certain someone did as US Senator (not including him fantasizing about being president, then running for it). But still, there's something about Sarah Palin that has all you libs quaking in your boots. Could it be that just 6 months into this train wreck Obama is shaping up to be the worst president ever? And if (a big if) she was as dumb as you all say, well Obama's setting the bar so low, a trained squirrel will be able to do a better job than Obama by 2012, so she'd still have no problem. Unfortunately that still crosses off your party.

B   August 3rd, 2009 11:24 am ET

A nation of GUNS, and we wonder why so many people attempt to solve their problems with guns.......

The most ironic thing is that most of them proclaim to be Christians !

Palin is an OUTBACK hillbilly

pat c   August 3rd, 2009 11:24 am ET

CNN I THINK YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN...PALIN/MCCAIN LOST THE ELECTION!!! pleeeeeese stop giving them all this attention. we don't care what this odd couple thinks or does.
thank you

Butch Dillon   August 3rd, 2009 11:24 am ET

The NRA has not released the content of Palin's rousing speech because no one has been able to decode her broken vernacular! They'd cheer anything anyone on their side has to say – what's so unusual about that?

barb   August 3rd, 2009 11:24 am ET

First you take the guns out of the hands of citizens. Then Obama builds his civialian army as strong and well armed as the United States Military. You slowly start cutting of funding for the military, and Obama's armed civialians gets stronger.....................What does this sound like too you america.

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   August 3rd, 2009 11:24 am ET

I wonder was she able to put one coherent sentence together.

Randy   August 3rd, 2009 11:23 am ET

She's been away for a whole week?!?! Why weren't we sending out search parties? Thank goodness she was out of the public spotlight for only a few days. Her tan might fade.

KJL   August 3rd, 2009 11:23 am ET

Funny how so many people who kill things for fun get stirred up over early abortions. Maybe it's easier to force your views on other when you're armed.

indyreader   August 3rd, 2009 11:23 am ET

Sarah has her own kwitter account (er, excuse me – twitter), so she can kwit directly (oh, sorry 'bout that again) to anyone who actually want to know what she's "thinking". Can't we leave her out of the real news cycle, leave her to her own kwitting (sorry – I don't know why that keeps happening) and talk about more important things?

EJ   August 3rd, 2009 11:23 am ET

The left never ceases to amaze me, the level of hate they spew as the party in power is a close second to the hate they spewed as teh opposition during the Bush years. I got it, you don't like Sarah Palin. Move on.

This type of sentimate (and the corresponding views from the right) is leading to the demise of the United Staes as a super power. We are too big, too divided and too angry to continue as one country. Time to consider an amenable separation. We will all be alot happier.

flipflopper   August 3rd, 2009 11:22 am ET

Palin needs to say whether she would resign part way through her presidency to move on to bigger and better things

Reality   August 3rd, 2009 11:22 am ET

It is interesting to "listen" the liberals squeal like little piggies every time they hear about Palin. They get all upset when someone mentions the fact that they are supposed to have rights. Just make sure that the pig pen fence is shut, and that there is plenty of slop for them to eat, and they could care less for what the farmer (government) has planned for them. They even prefer to stay defenseless. How curious indeed.

Joe   August 3rd, 2009 11:22 am ET

Palin said she quit being Governor of Alaska so she can focus and do more "Good" for Alaska.

HOW?

She has no elected voting rights at the state level.
She will not be permitted into state run meetings.
She will not be going to the US Governor's meetings in the Capitol.

How exactly will she be doing more "Good" for Alaska?

Barry NiFong, Hawaii   August 3rd, 2009 11:22 am ET

Palin is smarter, more honest, and better at leading than the current liar in chief. She had a real job and she isn't making racial comments like liar in chief.

Arthur   August 3rd, 2009 11:21 am ET

What silence? All she does is run her mouth. She's a quitter and a poor loser.

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   August 3rd, 2009 11:21 am ET

Sarah Palin gives a bad name to women.

Paul   August 3rd, 2009 11:20 am ET

Soundslike she's going to run on a third party ticket. Good way to avoid McCain type handlers who unfairly insist on rationality and being informed as minimally informed about about things as the typical senator.

Bill   August 3rd, 2009 11:20 am ET

oh my goodness my father was a hunter and me too but why does the NRA think they own the country?
I don't like their attitude and Palin is a quitter so I wouldn't vote for her .

The scariest person in America has a "stirring speech". I wonder if they meant to say "screeching speech" ? I am thankful that there was no media or audio, she is a non factor in politics and is only the Paris Hilton of American. If she ever got into the Whithouse it would no doubt speel the end of America ! Every other country in the world would cease their relationship with the US !

G SMITH PA   August 3rd, 2009 11:16 am ET

All you out in idiot land, Obama is a lousy President. Sarah Palin is a true American, true Republican and a true conservative. She would be a great President, she would be the President for the People not for the Politicians.

Eddie B.   August 3rd, 2009 11:15 am ET

I am sure that everyone at this event had a gun in their hands and after her speech they all shot them in the air!!! Yeeee Haaaahhhh!!!!

Did any other morons give speeches this week, or is this the extent of it?

Go Sarah Go, you are the gift to the Democrats that keeps on giving.

kevin   August 3rd, 2009 11:14 am ET

No speech posts...no reporters allowed...only 'stirring' comments made by attendees

Why the secrecy if it was 'so great'????

John E Lexington KY   August 3rd, 2009 11:13 am ET

She gave a speech that neither she nor the group wanted covered. So let's not cover it. Let's ignore her to death in the great old American tradition. She is not a disciplined, serious person, she is not a leader, she has no record, she was a gimmick used by McCain to try to draw angry Hillary voters and nothing else. Any respect given to her is putting lipstick on a pig. There are serious Republican women leaders – Olympia Snow for example – Sarah Palin is a dangerous joke.

MarinecorpsAT   August 3rd, 2009 11:13 am ET

Eddie B.   August 3rd, 2009 11:12 am ET

Funny, how the press could not be a part of this event when Sarah Palin talked about how they have so much freedom because of our troops fighting for them. This woman is not fit to lead anything. I am sure the NRA loves her shooting animals and acting like a fool with guns.

Chop   August 3rd, 2009 11:12 am ET

NRA would be a good job for her, go for it. About the only job you are qualified for.

Randolph Carter   August 3rd, 2009 11:12 am ET

The liberal left don't like her because she really appeals to the lowest common denominator. You know, the people who think that Olive Garden is Italian food, think that Lady Gaga is musically talented, think that watching reality TV is a worthwhile use of time. No class. No taste. Have a nice day!

That's right Sarah – run for President. But make sure that you have a great VP 'cause when you get tired of that job and quit again....

Unbiased   August 3rd, 2009 11:10 am ET

So, she waits to talk at the NRA dinner because I'm sure she was paid to be there...That's no surprise. Sarah's game now is all about the Benjamins, so the media probably won't get anymore statements from Sarah unless they pay for them or attend an event where she's getting paid....This move has nothing to do with the American people. This is all about Sarah.

Kelby In Houston, TX   August 3rd, 2009 11:10 am ET

The NRA did not reveal the content of her remarks, but described them as “a stirring speech on 2nd Amendment rights.”

Let's be honest. The reason why the did not reveal the content of her remarks is because one can not quote this woman and make sense. This woman just strings words together.

cfrench   August 3rd, 2009 11:08 am ET

Palin and the NRA. Could there be a better fit? It is only the fringe of the republcian party that Palin appeals to, and the NRA is the biggest part of the far right fringe. Palin will NOT be a factor in 2012, other than to drive moderates and independants away from the republican party.

JOY   August 3rd, 2009 11:08 am ET

She needs a good manager, one who can direct her path and insist that she follows her script. Sometimes it is shameful to listen to the srayry shots she takes at others. She lacks depth and should be educated in policies and procedures . We need more substance and less facila grimaces winks and ya. I am looking forward to more serious talk and activities from Sarah

Ren from Baltimore   August 3rd, 2009 11:07 am ET

"Palin breaks silence" you say? Leave her alone; more importantly leave us out of it. NO MORE PALIN PLEASE

Elizabeth   August 3rd, 2009 11:07 am ET

If former governor Palin wishes to keep her political aspirations alive giving "stirring" speeches behind closed doors and without any media coverage is not the way to do it. Surely there is even ONE media outlet in Alaska, be it visual or print, with whom the former governor has a good working relationship. I realize that she has painted the "east coast media" with a rather wide brush, but Alaska must have one television or radio station or even one newspaper whose staff she trusts. If not, one can only wonder why not.

the southern progressive   August 3rd, 2009 11:07 am ET

i have no issue with people having the right to bear arms..

i do have issue with those who claim to be literal constitutional interpretists.... if you wish to literally interpret the constitution as it was written, then you must take the mindset of when it was written, thus the forefathers could have only meant the arms to be what was availble when they wrote the constitution... muskets and other 18th century weaponry.

so dont be a hypocrite.. either you take it literally and neverchanging, or as something that evolves as time itself does.

that is my take on the 2nd ammendment.

Chumley   August 3rd, 2009 11:06 am ET

And just how does someone who seems to only know how to babble and use catch phrases give “a stirring speech on 2nd Amendment rights.” I don't mean to imply that she isn't intelligent when I say, I don't think she knows whats she is saying. It truely seems that during most speaches, she is reading a teleprompter blindly, with no clue as to what she is saying verbally.

Erick   August 3rd, 2009 11:06 am ET

She has to go away and stay in Alaska. she does not need to be in 2012. She should join a former vice president Cheney for the gun club.

Here's a probable example of her speech –

I'd like to thank the real Americans for inviting me here to also, speak on the threat of domestic terrorists taking away our guns' rights (yeah, I mean the GUNS' rights) as well as our right to shoot the moose that roam through our towns also, it creates jobs so our american soldiers can defend our rights of free speech, also, it keeps our taxes down and keeps the government from butting into our private parts because it simulates the economy too, as well, as allowing for a cap and trade limit on our rights to speak our minds with our free speach so thank an american soldier with your gun.

Ignorance and arrogance, a dangerous combination

Steve   August 3rd, 2009 10:59 am ET

Let me understand this headline...Sarah Palin broke "her silence?" The woman doesn't stop speaking with food in her mouth, or when asleep. If she ever goes silent, someone should check her pulse.

Chester Drawers   August 3rd, 2009 10:59 am ET

This CNN ticker is about 80% McCain-Palin. How bad does a party have to lose before it moves to the background of news reporting and talk shows? They should not get equal time, as they are now a small minority.

LacrosseMom   August 3rd, 2009 10:59 am ET

hmmm. don't you have to BE silent to break the silence. If she's not in the national headlines for a couple days suddenly she's "silent" and FINALLY breaks the silence. Please.

Justin from Mississippi   August 3rd, 2009 10:58 am ET

I really wish she would just go away. Its time for serious people in this country and she is not serious. She is like a bad joke dropped at the first sign of trouble. Mississippi wants you to fade away. I wish the republicans would put someone up that is serious for a change. Someone that admits that evolution and global warming are real, or at least a possibility. Someone that can actually work with someone over the aisle. Someone that wouldn't start a war on a lie. Someone who would not send this country into the abyss and have the gall to say the next person caused it. Step up republicans and admit your Senate 12 or the last 14 years, and you president 8 or the last 8.5 caused all this mess. Just admit it and move on.

Tyler   August 3rd, 2009 10:58 am ET

Er, was the editor here asleep at the wheel? It's not speaking out publicly if it wasn't in public and the remarks weren't made publicly available.

Mike in NJ   August 3rd, 2009 10:57 am ET

Political chicanery anyone?

Isn't the point of the NRA to Promote Gun Rights? Is Palin giving a Secret Speech doing that? Oh yeah, the secret speech makes members get out there and tell others about the 'stirring speech' that was awesome, though they can't share the speech. Rrrriiiiiigggghhhtt.

Maybe they can get her in office and she can shove through HER own legislation. LOL.

Once again, Palin plays CNN for the fool. Keep on reporting on this nonperson, CNN. Please, keep it up.

Mark Zalewski   August 3rd, 2009 10:56 am ET

Wow, she made a speech in support of gun rights in front of the NRA, that takes real guts. How I admire her moxie, to stand up there in front of people who agree with your position before you even speak, all I can say is wow. Will she speak about a strong military at a military base next?

John   August 3rd, 2009 10:56 am ET

If she had been invited to this event and ample notice was given her, she should attend and give a speech to this group at the Reagan Library. She should not miss any speaking opportunity from supporters and loyalists.

Demo Joe   August 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

Stop reporting on this dumb lady. Who cares – her next speech will be confusing and gibberish as the rest of them.....!

Howard   August 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

So, right-wing gun freaks hold a secret meeting and listen to a speech from a quitter with the depth of the Platte river, and call themselves true, flag-waving patriots? Not in my book.

shucks   August 3rd, 2009 10:55 am ET

This is exactly the type of crowd she covets. She can be as racist, hateful, and "stirring" as she wants with no reporters to cover any of it. Sounds sort of covert to me. She is there just for the division. She thrives on causing rifts between people. Gun collecting? Laughable!

Frank   August 3rd, 2009 10:54 am ET

I think that it is manifestly unfair of Sarah to deny her followers their daily twitter.

After all, that's the only reading most of them are likely to do.

RLF   August 3rd, 2009 10:54 am ET

Palin Breaks Silence... When has the mouth that whines ever been silent?

Gary   August 3rd, 2009 10:53 am ET

I'm curious as to why Mrs. Palin didn't want the media present, if not to ask questions then to at least report to the public as to what is discussed. Rush Limbaugh I believe also likes to control what is reported about himself, instead of open discussion.

joesmom   August 3rd, 2009 10:53 am ET

Women's groups are desperate to have Sarah speak but she chooses to show up with gun lovers instead? What an idiot. I'm sick of the American Taliban – Bible in one hand, gun in the other. This has nothing to do with Jesus. Its all about power, and Sarah will have no power if my vote counts for anything!

Steve   August 3rd, 2009 10:52 am ET

Looks like she's doing a Subway '$5 Footlong' commercial...which is about the only job she is qualified for.

Joycie   August 3rd, 2009 10:51 am ET

This is the only subject on which this character seems to know anything at all ..GUNS..

To those who would actually pay to hear this person speak ( it had to be torture to anyone who has an ear for English) let's hope it was at least "stirrin'".. It must have been that moment when she raised her arm, air pumped, and winked..you betcha!

Vicky from Milwaukee   August 3rd, 2009 10:51 am ET

I'm sure it was stirring. Stir in fear, paranoia, half-truths, and trite slogans that even her fans can understand. Must have been exciting. Now please, report on something of substance.

MikeMaz   August 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

??NRA’s Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting??

Well yee Haw...them theres a great 'ole awards me can puts up on my mantle under my Moose head

Edward Veidt   August 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

What is the NRA hiding that they don't want media attention?

Obama Victim   August 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

Palin is raising money for the party....................Obozo is raising taxes on the middle class......seems about right

Al-NY,NY   August 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

Good for her. Now she can go back to Alaska, pull out her automatic Assault rifle, get into a helicopter and go moose hunting. "We eat, therefore we hunt...." HUH? And people actually think this dim-wit is presidential material? GO ahead and win the 2012 nomination Fido. You'll quit before election day and THEN you can disappear forever. For now, though I thoroughly enjoy the inane blather

Jeff W.   August 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

It never ceases to amaze me how this vapid, dimwit is always on the wrong side of every issue. I don't think McCain should ever be forgiven for injecting this jerk into our culture. I try to remember life before Palin and I can't.

JD from Moraga, CA   August 3rd, 2009 10:50 am ET

Appropriate, for someone who keeps shooting herself in the foot. Maybe she can set up a date to go duck-hunting with Dick Cheney.

Go away, Sarah.

robert jay   August 3rd, 2009 10:49 am ET

Sounds right for a REPUB. Why vist an intellectual facility like a library when you can promote and endorse GUNS! I am exceptionally happy the "lipstick on a pig" woman is a REpublican!

Gerald   August 3rd, 2009 10:49 am ET

Great report , to bad you were not there. The main stream media has done nothing but bash Sarah and her family as well as provide a venue for the left only caustic commentary. Funny that 47% of America did vote for her and I would bet at this point that 50% of those who voted for Obama wished they hadn't

Deb   August 3rd, 2009 10:49 am ET

We shall soon know what exactly was said in that meeting. I am sure it will make our hair curl.

doodman   August 3rd, 2009 10:48 am ET

"stirring" speach on consitutional law. come 'on

Tony Justin   August 3rd, 2009 10:48 am ET

I was just so surprised to hear that Sarah Palin gave a speech in support of gun rights. Did you also know that many Major League Baseball players took steroids? By the way, are there any other rights that Sarah Palin supports? For example, those articulated in the first (speech), fourth (search and seizure), fifth (witness against oneself) and eighth (cruel and unusual punishment) amendments to the US constitution.

Patty   August 3rd, 2009 10:48 am ET

.....according to published account of event 130 people were in attendance. What a captive audience.

Former Republican   August 3rd, 2009 10:47 am ET

Why is this woman still so surprised at how "unfair" the media coverage is? Was she not the one yelling out at rallies that Obama was a terrorist? Karma sucks, huh Sarah. Don't try to USE the media to sling mud and then be shocked when the pendulum swings back and hits you in the butt.

It sickens me more to hear McCain say how disappointed he is on the media coverage. HE and HIS staff knew how bloody this would be. Republicans INVENTED the "swift boat" tactics. I blame McCain for bringing such an inexperienced person onto the political stage. I blame McCain/Palin for my separation from the Republican party.

Brian0901   August 3rd, 2009 10:46 am ET

Big Deal, she talked to a room full of right-wing extremists.

No one wants your guns NRA, just keep them and shut up or do something useful with them and shoot yourselves.

drman   August 3rd, 2009 10:46 am ET

Wow, Lifetime memberships and Gold Awards from Gun Clubs and the NRA! No reporters admitted or any release of content of her "stirring speech" on Gun rights.
Maybe she showed up wearing a string bikini and heels while brandishing an M60 machine gun she uses to shoot moose while riding in a helicopter.

mike   August 3rd, 2009 10:46 am ET

"The NRA did not reveal the content of her remarks" of course they did not reveal the remarks they were incoherent.

beth   August 3rd, 2009 10:45 am ET

Reporters weren't invited because I'm sure it was another senseless speech by the bimbo.

Laverne   August 3rd, 2009 10:45 am ET

I am sure it was a hate spewing event with Sarah Palin cheerleading the event. This woman does not have any knowledge on most things that count, but does an excellent job running off at the mouth and speaking of devisive things. She is dangerous with her rhectoric and repubs have the nerve to criticize President Obama on rhectoric. At least, he knows what he is talking about and he is not trying to devide the country. Just because she eats shoots and eat moose does not mean she knows what is best for this country. She is right down scary to be honest!

Peoples Voice   August 3rd, 2009 10:45 am ET

The NRA and Palin are buddies? Who would have thunk it?

Polar Bears Against Palin   August 3rd, 2009 10:44 am ET

This woman only fires blanks. CNN, stop wasting time on Sarah Palin.

The economy is vastly improving and so are our prospects on the world stage. Obama is such an improvement over what we had for 8 years. Why would anyone in their right mind want to go back to that Hell?

Obama and his staff should read the Constitution so that they may
become aware of the 2nd Amendment .

butterfly   August 3rd, 2009 10:43 am ET

Awwwwwwwwwwwww, Jesus must be so proud. As much as I dislike this woman to the core of my being, I had a small amount of hope that maybe she would use her new found fame(I use that term loosely) to get involved in organizations that promote improving the education and lives of special needs children and adults. I was really hoping(glasses must have been a bit too rose colored) that she planned to do something worthwhile.
My rose colored glasses are now gone. How disgusting. It's not about guns, it's not about who is the more patriotic American, it's not about who supports the troops more(we all support the troops but we may not support how they are used), it's not about legislating morallity, it's not about abortion, it's not about gays. It is about every person in this country. It's about all of us being American even if we look different, worship different and live in different ways.
I wonder if Sarah is gearing up for an Alaskan sucession. Her speach on her last day as Governor was very devisive and she seemed to resent anyone who wasn't a wilderness tough, hunting Alaskan.
Thank God all of our daughters do not have to see her as the first woman VP, and she certainly will never be the first woman President. Sarah, you are everything I don't want my daughter to be.

tom rogers   August 3rd, 2009 10:43 am ET

this woman uses words like golly and gee wiz and by gosh just like her fellow republican neo con donald rumsfeld. does that mean she will attack the WRONG COUNTRY like he did and start using torture in America's name like he did. you'd think Americans would be tired of being talked to like a bunch of uneducated hicks. she is a dangerous demogogue who was a beauty queen, went to 5 different colleges and just quit her governor position for blind ambition....danger danger danger she s more macho than the terminator sick and discusted, tommy rogers

Kent   August 3rd, 2009 10:43 am ET

If they would not reveal the content of her remarks, then she really didn't break her silence, did she?

Scoobydob   August 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

sarah palin,
You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency madam, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?

Chipster   August 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

The 2nd Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms. It doesn't say that there cannot be reasonable definitions to the types of weapons that can be restricted. For example, armor piercing bullets are not necessary to protect yourself against intruders or for recreational use. "A Polaris Missile in Every Garage" is not a winning slogan and not the type of arms that citizens need to protect themselves.

While some people wish to prevent anyone from owning any sort of weapon, most of us recognize that the Constitution protects that right and we defend that right. But owning a pistol or a hunting rifle is very different from owning grenades and rocket launchers. You won't win my vote with a "Bonnie and Clyde" mentality or by calling it sport to shoot fish in a barrel or wolves from an airplane. I come from a long line of hunters and that is NOT hunting.

Dave C - NJ   August 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

Of course reporters were not invited. They knew that Palin would have given them gold to work with. Everything the woman says comes out badly. That's not media bias...that's just obvious.

Scan these comments for the 1 out of 30 Palin supporters that claim we are all scared of her...lol that line never gets old!

energy   August 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

This matter should be investigated by the Press. Did she receive an invitation? Did she commit? Did she inform the organizers on time that she would NOT be attending? Who said she was going to attend in the first place–her staff, herself, the organizers, or who? These questions will be important in deciding how serious we take Ms. Palin post her governorship position. Over to you, THE PRESS!!

Joe E.   August 3rd, 2009 10:42 am ET

Palin a "hit" with the NRA? Now there's a "no-brainer", literally and figuratively, both the speaker and the audience in attendance.

Please allow her to disappear! Please!!!!!!!!!!!! Her voice grates on my ears and her "moral values" grate on my soul. BEGONE! FOUL SPIRIT! BEGONE!

R Wolf   August 3rd, 2009 10:41 am ET

I bet it was stirring – all that fun talk about killing beautiful creatures which are defenseless, just so you can feel powerful and have a laugh or two, yet, if someone says something about you which you don't like you cry to the press, the very same press that you hate, that you're being unfairly targeted. You know, unfairly targeted just like those beautiful animals you so dearly love to kill.

AJ   August 3rd, 2009 10:41 am ET

Of course she did. After all, everyone should be entitled to shoot animals from a helicopter!

Gary T.   August 3rd, 2009 10:41 am ET

Go Away!!

Tommy   August 3rd, 2009 10:40 am ET

"Reporters were not invited to the event."

Hmmm, much like her campaign speeches.

I find it interesting that a politician, in order to widen their appeal, would actually go out of the way to keep the general public uninformed about their views.

Sarah Palin, brought to you by CNN and Fox News.

Aim high!

B   August 3rd, 2009 10:39 am ET

Didn't release the content of her speech? Yea, stirring..So good no one needs to hear it. NEXT.

Kevin in Ohio   August 3rd, 2009 10:38 am ET

Br Spree   August 3rd, 2009 10:36 am ET

Does anyone really care?

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   August 3rd, 2009 10:35 am ET

Just because we are allowed to have weapons doesn't mean that we should have all kinds of them. Remember that a gun (be it a pistol rifle or revolver) was meant to do one thing - kill. There are times to have one for self defense, but really some of the things that the NRA is pushing are just outlandish - what person needs armor piercing bullets? If they are really that paranoid, maybe they should be living out in the back woods (or better a cave) living off the land with no other human contact.

Palin fits right in with the extremes of this (an some other) group(s). Not understanding that all that many weapons are NEEDED in urban or suburban setting. She is an ideologue that needs to live in the lower 48 and understand the other side of the country - moderate and liberal groups.

Rose in Colorado   August 3rd, 2009 10:34 am ET

This blood thirsty hunter should stay out of politics for good. I am sick and tired of her speeches, uneducated way of expressing herself and sick of seeing her face all over the place.

I don't know why people continue to give her any attention. As far as I am concerned she should disappear in the wilderness of Alaska not to be heard or seen again.

Me   August 3rd, 2009 10:34 am ET

Why should we care? After resigning the governership Palin is no longer a politician; she's simply a person with a few misinformed opinions related to politics. But then again so is Lou Dobbs.

Jonathan   August 3rd, 2009 10:34 am ET

David   August 3rd, 2009 10:33 am ET

"Stirring" speech? Oh, another one of her scripted stage performances, and then she'll be interviewed one-on-one and be exposed as the idiot she is. Sarah Palin is all spectacle. If she were ugly, fat, and saying and doing the same things, no one would give her a second glance.

A.J.   August 3rd, 2009 10:33 am ET

Will, wouldn't you know the first stop was the NRA....for Republicans it's always guns, there's nothing wrong with the enviroment, health care...oh..screw that...we don't need no stinking health care...let'm die.
and on and on......

Wonder if anyone there understood a word that she said??????
How did she ever make through Journalism school?????

Please just stay in Alaska!

Nathan,   August 3rd, 2009 10:33 am ET

So this is where this bimbo resurfaces, at an NRA meeting. This should tell you everything you need to know about her. What other group in America is as narrow minded as the NRA. Oh I forgot about the Republicans.

The Lonely Libertarian of Liverpool NY   August 3rd, 2009 10:32 am ET

Welcome back Sarah, you go girl and you do it your way. Now is the time to reach out to Ron Paul and get the GOP back on track.

Edward lawler   August 3rd, 2009 10:32 am ET

I'm a conservative, but not a fan of Ms Palin. That said I would like my two Senators to come out on their position on gun control and how they plan to vote in the future. They both had previously supported the right to bear arms, but both supported Pres Obama and as we all know he is/will come after our guns one way or another

Hannah Stevens   August 3rd, 2009 10:32 am ET

Is she the new spokesperson for the NRA? Could be. Those photos of her in a helicopter chasing down moose and wolves will just get all the gun lobbyists teary eyed and seeing $$$$'s from more gun sales.

Ambrose Smith, Borrego Springs, California   August 3rd, 2009 10:32 am ET

Palin has been in front of the mirror practicing that NRA speech for 4 days! That is why she has been silent on Twitter.

Now that her paracticed rah rah speech is over time to lay low while practicing the next rah hah speech.

Hey Palin, I dare you to go on MEET THE PRESS! I double dare you!

Marcel- Atlanta   August 3rd, 2009 10:32 am ET

Since when did it become acceptable to report on a third hand account of a speech that no reporter witnessed? On top of that, no one has any idea of what she talked about. Quit clamoring for news that doesn't exist!

America Shrugged   August 3rd, 2009 10:32 am ET

Nice thing about living in America, you can own guns and not send the NRA your money and put up with their whining and fear mongering about the evil gubmint taking your guns away. Thing about Palin, she's doing the very thing she accused Hillary of doing, whining about the media picking on her. I hope she runs in 2012, then she'll know what getting picked on is really all about. We'll get to find out what radicals she's hanging out with also.

VON BISMARK,Vienna.   August 3rd, 2009 10:31 am ET

George   August 3rd, 2009 10:31 am ET

Former Military   August 3rd, 2009 10:31 am ET

Gun rights are out of control in our country. And she is a contributor to this out of control issue that MUST be reined in, soon! The Thune amendment was ridiculous. The appeal of the NRA is to those in our society who are unwilling to see the reality that gun trafficking causes in our cities. Funny, we keep calling the police and firefighters heroes, but, they want stricter gun laws and we refuse to listen to them. Stop the NRA NOW!! It's arguments are just plain lies.

Claudia in Houson   August 3rd, 2009 10:31 am ET

While the nation is focusing on healthcare and the economy Palin is focused on gun rights. Again Palin displays her inability to tackle the hard things that our country faces but is centerline on only the things she knows about such as guns. It's easy to talk about things you know and it's pure ignorance and laziness not to read and research that which you don't know. Palin again proves to be incompetent and takes the easy way out.

Truth-Bomb Thrower   August 3rd, 2009 10:31 am ET

Thank God for the NRA. It's good to see there are groups out there who still believe in the U.S. Constitution.

Pat   August 3rd, 2009 10:30 am ET

I'm sure there are just as many people that hate Palin and her family as those that hate Obama and his family. So instead of everyone spending time here using the same ole insults, lets focus on doing something within each of our own powers of making a difference to another person that matters.

On the subject of Gun control, much is said about trying to out law guns – which I hope never happens because I own several guns. I've never lost a family member because of gun, but I have lost a brother and close friends because of other people drinking and driving. Before we start talking about gun control, lets talk about eliminating something that kills a lot more people, drunk drivers. Or lets talk about limiting the violent video games and movies that contribute to desenitizing some people to the affects of violent crime.

Peter   August 3rd, 2009 10:30 am ET

Sounds like the NRA didn't want us to know if Ms. Palin had (or likely had not) improved on her speaking ability and use of her native tongue.

Jane   August 3rd, 2009 10:30 am ET

The Lunatic Right at it again. Maybe the NRA should go hunt down Obama since he is not a US citizen......NUTCASES.

Hopeful Optimist   August 3rd, 2009 10:29 am ET

Embarrassing for America. The rest of the world is laughing.

bill   August 3rd, 2009 10:29 am ET

It's pretty funny how Palin is so concerned about the 2nd amendment yet reporters weren't allowed to go to this event,i guess freedom of speech isn't one of her priorities.

Big John   August 3rd, 2009 10:29 am ET

Sarah who?

Ilene   August 3rd, 2009 10:29 am ET

What do you mean she breaks her silence. She hasn't shut up since being nominated as a VP. I cannot believe the time that has been committed to this person who is not even intelligent enough to put together a cohesive sentence while being interviewed. Let her go already. I hope to never see her or hear from her again. She makes my head ache whenever she speaks. She doesn't stand for one thing that I stand for

Meghan   August 3rd, 2009 10:28 am ET

As a staunch Libertarian, I agree that second ammendment rights need to be protected. This issue does drive me crazy however. You'd have to be blind to see that gun rights have a much different meaning in Alaska versus somewhere like Brooklyn New York! I do not see how either major political party cannot see this.

trish   August 3rd, 2009 10:27 am ET

A gold medal for gun collecting...is that anything to be proud of like a nobel peace prize?....I`m so glad that we don`t know the contents of the speech...... may all of her rambings be kept silent to the public..and all of her whining too.Way to go NRA,you saved us from sarah.

Former Republican   August 3rd, 2009 10:27 am ET

Speech at the bigot racist red neck club

Opps thats the NRA well umm

good job keep doing what your doing :)

Why is this woman still making news? I would prefer to know what is going on with Britney Spears or Fifty Cent!

Angus McDugan   August 3rd, 2009 10:27 am ET

Get ready for people who to post saying that Sarah is of no interest. This always get a laugh out of me as they obviously are obsessed with her else they would not read or post about her. These people are like a high-school girl not getting selected for the chear leading squad saying that it was not that important anyway.

Rick W   August 3rd, 2009 10:27 am ET

Yea, and I'll bet the NRA would like every state to allow people
to hunt from aircraft like Alasks and next with stinger missles,
F/A 18's, F16's, anything to get a kill.

I Can See Argentina from my Front Porch   August 3rd, 2009 10:27 am ET

All I can say is - that as a gun owner, Sarah Palin does NOT speak for me.
I have NEVER been concerned about losing my rights to keep a small handgun for protection. That has never been an issue.
What is a concern for me are the religious right extremists that are using this platform to make some attempt to further their religions and personal agendas. My gun ownership is not a religion, and I don't need any pastors to preach about my so-called God given right to own a gun. I know what my rights are. But I also have a right to NOT follow a certain type of religion. If I am old enough to have a gun, then I should be old enough to make personal and spiritual decisions for myself.
The worst thing the NRA and the Republican party did was to hook up with these social conservatives. Bad mistake. Now both organizations are taking the heat, and that is a GREAT thing. Serves them right.

Robin in Tampa, FL   August 3rd, 2009 10:27 am ET

Somehow I don't see her as one to give a speech on responsible gun ownership.

JimmyBoom   August 3rd, 2009 10:26 am ET

Because the world needs more killing. That's why I'm for gun rights. Less things should be alive. Go Sarah!

annie s   August 3rd, 2009 10:25 am ET

You would figure that her first speech would be to a radical right group. The 2nd Amendment gives Americans the right to bear arms, but nowhere does it state without any restrictions. The NRA's support of private ownership of assault weapons and armor piercing bullets takes them too far from the mainstream for any sane person to support.

Tarheel   August 3rd, 2009 10:24 am ET

Sarah Palin has such charisma and is such a dynamic speaker that I understand why she causes the liberal Left's heads to explode at the mere mention of her name. She will be a tremendous plus to the NRA and any other conservative organization she chooses to support.

Stripe   August 3rd, 2009 10:24 am ET

Silence? What silence? This woman never shuts up. Stop reporting her every word, CNN. She is no longer relevant, if she ever was.

CS in PA   August 3rd, 2009 10:24 am ET

Hey Sarah, that's the spirit – make lots of money with your poison spewing messages but keep it secretive – can't have it both ways when you put yourself in the limelight 'hockey mom'!

DanInNooYawk   August 3rd, 2009 10:23 am ET

"Reporters were not invited to observe the event" because secrecy and spin are the hallmarks of the Palin political agenda. It's a free country–she can disparage and ban the press, but why doesn't she put her speech on a blog? For Palin, truth is her enemy.

Tom Everhardt   August 3rd, 2009 10:23 am ET

Phooey to gun collecting. Americans need to arm themselves to defend against an anti-American government now in power. Obama's new "civilian army" made up mostly of radical Blacks will be used to persecute Americans that don't agree with Obama's tactics. Antichrist-like alright!

Sandra Day   August 3rd, 2009 10:23 am ET

Unfortunately, about one-third of all Republicans are “tinfoil heads.” They are blindly loyal to the Party to the max, and will believe anything they are told. A beautiful woman spouting their philosophy was more than they could take, and they fell hard, not giving a heck what came out of her mouth. (I doubt the above address was "stirring," esp. given her so-long Alaska speech a week or two ago.) Now, the intellectual or Washington Republicans know that Sarah P. is ridiculous and making their party look bad, but there is no way they can afford to offend one-third of their party, so they go around giving lip service to her, all the time hoping she goes away, or at least gets more "training," which is where she may be now.

Johnnorth   August 3rd, 2009 10:22 am ET

dominican mama 4 Obama   August 3rd, 2009 10:19 am ET

A rousing speech for the NRA where ".” Reporters were not invited to observe the event". Geez, I wonder why? Could be she worked the crowd up into a frenzy again, getting them to yell inappropriate things like at her V.P. rallies. Why would'nt she want the press there, at a gun rally, full of local yahoos? Hmmm?

Interesting that she'd pass up on a more "cultured" event like the one at the Ronald Reagan Library to hang out with the Hood-lums of the NRA.

good grief not her again! She'll be president of the NRA soon.

windfall   August 3rd, 2009 10:19 am ET

How ironic that the NRA wants everyone's constitutional right to bear arms protected, but they practice alienation and prejudicial practices by shutting out the media and non-members from things like this.

pinkette   August 3rd, 2009 10:19 am ET

So the NRA will not release the actual transcript of the speech, and they did not invite the press to cover the event. My question is: why bother making any public statements at all about the event that they so desperately wanted to keep secret. If they want the public to believe that she gave such a moving speech, why not just release a transcript or video of the speech so that we can all hear it and be just as moved by it as those who attended. Or in the alternative, just keep the secret meeting a secret.

CNN – all Palin, all McCain, all the time.

boring and not informative, CNN

Rob Johnson   August 3rd, 2009 10:18 am ET

It's a shame Palin's paranoia about the media will prevent us from every hearing the precious words of wisdom she said at the meeting.
Oh well, if the NRA says it was a "stirring speech," then I guess it was!

Seriously CNN, if they didn't let you cover the speech, why are you covering the speech? This way Palin gets to have her cake and eat it too, all the attention with none of the accountability.

So what?

Palin addressed a National Rifle Association   August 3rd, 2009 10:16 am ET

I hope this is not a pair made in heaven

I don't like both of these parties

I grew up with guns, appreciate them and agree with (meaning no need to have a constitutional convention about it) the right to bear arms

I even think we need an advocacy group

the NRA is not the group, the demonstrate over and over 'over the top' behavior

this complements Palin 'the victim''s style

but it would be annoying times two if they hooked up

Ken   August 3rd, 2009 10:16 am ET

Can't think of anything more stirring than the Demagogue Diva talkin' about guns. Woo Hoo.

Karen-phoenix   August 3rd, 2009 10:15 am ET

Gun right have advanced more under President Obama than ever. You all can now shoot Bambi in a National Park. Palin please go away!!!

60's survivor   August 3rd, 2009 10:15 am ET

diana   August 3rd, 2009 10:15 am ET

Wonder if they even understood her disjointed speach

Mike   August 3rd, 2009 10:15 am ET

Run in 2012 or 2016 Governor Palin. With obummer in the White House, it will be a Republican victory.

Willy Brown   August 3rd, 2009 10:13 am ET

Rock on Sarah!

Richard L   August 3rd, 2009 10:13 am ET

So far, Palin's promise to update everyone through Twitter after she left office has been as valid as most of her campaign claims.

Lilarose in Bandon, Oregon   August 3rd, 2009 10:12 am ET

Sarah!

Just be sure your gun hurts someone you love, not someone I love.

Oh, I forgot, guns don't hurt people, people hurt people.
