WASHINGTON (CNN) - The anti-tax Club for Growth is launching a $1.2 million ad campaign in four states pressuring Democratic members of Congress to "oppose government-run health care."
The spot makes the claim that in England, the government-administered health care system makes decisions about when patients should die.
"Life and death medical decisions should be made by patients and doctors, not politicians and bureaucrats," says the ad's narrator.
The 30-second ad will begin running Thursday in Nevada, Colorado, Arkansas and North Dakota. Several of the Democratic legislators being targeted hail from conservative districts and might have to answer for their health care vote in the 2010 midterms.
"Members of Congress who would support a plan that raises taxes and involves the government in some of the most important and personal decisions in our lives will hear from us," said the Club's president Chris Chocola in a statement announcing the campaign.
According to the Club, the ads will run throughout the August congressional recess.
The group said the campaign is aimed at Nevada Sen. Harry Reid; Colorado Sens. Michael Bennet and Mark Udall; Arkansas Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor; and North Dakota Sens. Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad.
Targeted members of Congress include Arkansas Reps. Marion Berry, Vic Snyder, and Mike Ross; Colorado Reps. Diana DeGette, Jared Polis, John Salazar, Betsy Markey, Ed Perlmutter, and North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy.
Several of those Democrats have already been taking heat over the airwaves: The Republican National Committee ran television ads last month in three of those states - Nevada, Arkansas and North Dakota - casting doubt on the president's health care effort.
If this universal healthcare legislation goes through, with so many people now against it (those of us who stand to lose healthcare quality, pay more taxes, or endure rationing) there stands to be a change in the democrat-republican ratios in Congress in the next elections.
My big question is how easy will it be to reverse this if it turns out to be a disaster. No one can answer that (the dems deny that that's a possibility and the republicans think it won't be reversible).
These paid Corporate Fascists should have their photos on wanted posters and milk cartons for crimes against uninsured children.
Since when is it "COMPETITION" for a "NON-profit" (IE: the Federal government) to "compete" with a "for profit" entity (such as Insurance Companies) ??
If this is allowed, the next step to be taken will be when Government owned GM attempts to sell their new "green" cars and no one is biting due to an excessive, "union forced" excessive price tag……so then in steps the owner of GM (Obama) and offers a gov. paid subsidy to purchase their car. What about Ford, who did not take any bailouts etc…..will that be "COMPETITION"?
I have worked at whatever job I could get, I have cut weeds on the highway right-of-ways for $2.50 an hour, I have never taken (nor have I expected) anything from the government! Don't you see what is going on??? The Dems will soon own everything and you as well….WHY? So you will vote for them!
Get up and do what you have to do and quit looking to Obama to take care of you!
Follow the money. Google – Club for Growth – and it is easy to find out just who these people are. Thier membership is primarily financiers and Wall street types. They are a 427 group that is also a PAC. Currently largly funded by--you guessed it, the insurance industry! Who-da thunk?
Instead of all these groups wasting money on their "for or against" stands why not just "chip in" and help us get to some type of health insurance reform? Seems an incredible waste of money to me, with people going without health care and families going hungry. Let's just get 'er done!
How about health insurance companies? Where do they fit in?
The way Republicans talk, you would think health insurance didn't exist, and all health issues are handled by patients and their doctor. If that was the case, we wouldn't even be having this debate.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: The government may not be perfect, but I'd rather have them as the "middleman" in my health care than some HMO that only cares about making money.
The Canadian health Care system is also being used as a scare tactic. As a Canadian I can tell you that we used to have a wonderful system. We saw a doctor when we needed to, went to the ER if necessary. Care was excellent and prompt. The latest health technologies were free.
Now, the insurance companies and private clinics are starting to get involved. A PAP test used to be free. Now it costs $100. You have to wait 3-6 months for an MRI or pay $500 to have one right away. What concerns me is that once these private companies start charging for health treatment, there is no limit to what we will have to pay. As well, if our big sister to the South isn't able to have a fair health care system, it won't be long before the big corporations take over our health care as well.
The club for growth?
Brother! I bet these losers will next start an expensive ad campaign to prove that the Earth is flat.
Anyone who is "anti tax" should lose police and military protection, the right to drive on public streets, and the use of everything else paid for by taxes.
Calling this plan "government run health care" is as incorrect as calling a grocery store a "government run supermarket" for accepting food stamps. You will STILL be able to see YOUR doctor, choose YOUR insurance plan, and have every freedom of choice therein. There will NOT be a "beauracrat standing between you and your doctor" like these liars would scare you to believe.
For all the talk about Sweden's health care, it is higher than the U.S. We are not #1. Sorry, but we are not.
I suggest you do a simple search to see which country is #1 for health care. It is not the US, as you think. We have a bunch of corporations who make a profit on collecting premiums and paying out less. That is not quality health care.
I live in a very conservative area where people hate government, but they love government programs like medicare, cash for old cars and.... I have a stable job and a good heath care. I'm against every kind of government programs including medicare and veteran heath insurance. Please ask the congress to vote down medicare, cash for old car, welfare of any kind. we don't like any of them
Show me a politician against healthcare reform and I'll show you one of the highest paid employees of any healthcare organization. Htese people are selling their soul to line their pockets with campaign money. They're not representing their people. They
re representing the healthcare companies who stand to lose millions if the American people are finally put first when it comes to healthcare.
GOP want more money from healt care companies thats why they dont want this bill to pass.. GOP is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's about time.
Dear Mr. President,
Your campaign through the years to reform Health Care is absolutely necessary. We are spending an enormus amount of money for less care. I just paid three dollars a pill for high blood pressure medicine, which raised my pressure. I go to my doctor and pay through the nose for a few minutes of care.
Keep up the good work of trying to secure good care for us.
Congress has personal monetary interest in keeping insurance companies in big business. It's shameful that poor people don't realize this.
I am a vet who retired from the government after 35 years and I fully understand that the government CAN NOT RUN the health care reform, manage it maybe, but not run it. I stay away from the VA because it is so screwed up. If I want to go to the VA for support it would take me five to six weeks to see a doctor. People I will tell you you do not want government health. However I do agree that the currrent system is broke and is in need of repair. Please no government run program.
Are these the same people who said Obama pals around with terrorists and wasn't born in this country? Why should I believe anything they say?
Polls are totally useless and nothing more than media propaganda. Just go vote…and of course, if you want any work to get done…better vote in a Democrat cause Republicans don't work…just whine
cnn is losing viewership to msnbc and huffingtin post.cnn has become bias. All they do is focus on things to make the president look bad.lou dobbs and co.i am turning off my cable so i will not watch the bias coming from cnn,i hope others do the same.
Name the one system that will not kick you out if you get sick, uses AMA scientific evidense for coverage decisions, uses input from consumers and providers in payment policy, and will provide you coverage no matter how rich or poor you are....
Please say no to the Goverment run option. With such low reimbursement rates, half of the hospitals will shut down. People will have to wait days before they can get an appointment to see a nurse practicioner (forget about seeing a doctor) and yes the care provided will be minimun and very rationed. Did you know that 2 in every 10 people in UK had to pull out their own teeth because the waiting time to see a dentist was more than a month??!!
Doctors and patients don't make those decisions in the present system. Instead, bureaucrats in your health insurance company, who get paid bonuses to find ways to disallow health insurance payments, are making those decisions. I have to say, that rhetoric is what will eventually get reforms to the health care system passed, because a majority aren't buying the bull that the Club For Growth is spreading.
