Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell will get a national speaking platform on Saturday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell will deliver Saturday's weekly Republican radio address, the Republican National Committee confirmed Tuesday.

The address - usually delivered by a Republican member of Congress or sitting governor - will cap off a week that has thrust the Virginia race in the national spotlight. On Thursday, President Obama will make his first campaign appearance with Democratic candidate Creigh Deeds in the northern Virginia suburb of Tyson's Corner.

McDonnell has also campaigned and raised money with a bevy of national figures, including Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and RNC chairman Michael Steele.

The race, considered the marquee political battle of 2009, is being fought over a number of national issues, particularly as McDonnell tries to link Deeds to the administration's contentious economic agenda.

Who cares what Republicans say! They lie, and lie, and lie and lie. If he wants to apologize for the spend and barrow years of Bush where lucrative government contacts were given away to Republican cronies, then it mght be worth listening to And aologizing abot the shameful lynch mob tacts approved and sponcered by the GOP to disrupt the natioal debates it would be wrth listening to as well – beyond that, play cartoons.

Which means he will end up losing his bid for governor because he wants to play partisan

It doesn't matter who delivered the message. If it doesn't have a solution it's all bogus which equals NO.

I am so sick of Republicans and their obvious hatred toward anyone who doesn't look or think like they do. I hope non of them get elected for anything next election. God help us if they do because the "real America" will be lost.

Lynne   August 5th, 2009 5:40 pm ET

What has this got to do with anything...CNN is really carrying the republicans water. have you polled Fox viewers and you think you can pull some of them over with your one sided coverage??

Cornyn: Obama is 'now looking like a mere mortal'

Obama always looked like a mere mortal i.e. a humble human. Unlike the republicans who looked like devilist immortals. That was the precise reason the immortal look-a-likes lost and mortal look-a-like won.

The Virginia know the Democrat deliver Chicken to every household. The Republican only send people to "SOUP KITCHEN" as soon after take office. Said enough.

D. Tree   August 5th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

Boy they are getting to the bottom of the list...

The GOP doesn't know who it is anymore!

Ted Tartaglia   August 5th, 2009 5:04 pm ET

I guess the Republicans have no credible members of Congress so they are going to the second team. I wonder if the governor will be more honest than the Congressional speakers? Probably not; after all he is a Republican.

Your title "GOP redirects calls to RNC" is misleading – did you mean to say "GOP redirects calls to DNC"?

bill   August 5th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

That is great news, good going Bob.

By the way , all fellow northern virginians, President Obama will be appearing with Creigh Deeds in a public rally and fundraiser tomorrow Thursday the 6th . It is at the Mclean Hilton starting at 5:00. Come show your support.

The virginian know the Democratic delivers chicken to every hosehold. The Republic deliver only " SOUP KITCHEN" to most household. Enough said.

I Hope he is about to deliver a republican alternative proposal to Pres Obama's Healthcare. If not, just consider it more of the same hot air spewed from the OUT OF TOUCH Republican Party to feed the base.

HA! HA! HA!… Whew…. Republicans are starting to smell like the Party of Conservative Desperation and Panic.

The future of the Republican Party can not be based on one man or woman, or the ability to scare the elderly with tactics used by the swift-boaters. We need a Republican Leadership that cares about the man and woman on Main Street, and not the $39 Million spent by the Healthcare Insurance Industry, all since April, with much of the money going to congressmen, senators, and state governors. I look forward to reviewing the campaign donation list for Bob McDonnell.

Here's an advance copy of the transcript of his speech....

"BWAAAAAAAAA. NOOOOOOO!!!!"

DiBiase/Bad Newz, VA   August 5th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

Mr. McDonnell is trying to refuse stimulus money that our current governor, Tim Kaine along with Mr. Deeds are saying that we need. After the many years it took to turn the Old Dominion back blue, Mr. McDonnell has another thing coming if he thinks the people are turning this state back over to the crooks of the republican party.

Rob from Texas   August 5th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

It's only a small matter of time before we clean out the few remaining Conservatives in office and get this country on the right track again after Bush. Both sides of our Moderate Republican families jumped ship due to what the Republican Party has become lately.

Enlightened Voter   August 5th, 2009 4:26 pm ET

Another huge liar spouting lies and hate! God, I've had it with the neanderthal rethuglicans!
